:00:00. > :00:08.That is all the sport, back to you. That is it from us,
:00:09. > :00:12.Good evening. The Sinn Fein President, Gerry Adams, has been
:00:13. > :00:15.released from custody this evening without charge and a file will be
:00:16. > :00:18.sent to the Public Prosecution Service. Mr Adams has been
:00:19. > :00:21.questioned in Antrim PSNI Station since last Wednesday evening after
:00:22. > :00:25.he was arrested in connection with the murder of Jean McConville, who
:00:26. > :00:31.was abducted and shot by the IRA in 1972. We now go live to our
:00:32. > :00:39.reporter, Claire Savage, who is at Antrim Police Station. I can confirm
:00:40. > :00:43.that Gerry Adams has been released from police custody but he remains
:00:44. > :00:49.in the police station here in Antrim behind me. A file has been sent to
:00:50. > :00:54.the Public Prosecution Service and it will be up to them to decide to
:00:55. > :00:59.choose to take any action against Mr Adams. Within the past few minutes,
:01:00. > :01:05.I can report that the head of the PPS, he will step aside and will not
:01:06. > :01:10.be looking at this. He will give it to his deputy because at one point,
:01:11. > :01:16.he was the solicitor for Gerry Adams. Earlier, he got a visit from
:01:17. > :01:23.Gerry Kelly, who said that Mr Adams had been well looked after I custody
:01:24. > :01:26.staff and Mr Adams felt his arrest was politically motivated. As Mervyn
:01:27. > :01:33.Jess reports, the political debate continues. This morning on the
:01:34. > :01:36.Sunday Politics programme, the allegation of political policing was
:01:37. > :01:40.the subject of debate, with all the main parties slugging it out. Gerry
:01:41. > :01:47.Kelly visited him at Antrim Police Station and afterwards he reaffirmed
:01:48. > :01:49.his position on the arrest. Like myself and other members of Sinn
:01:50. > :01:56.Fein, who believe this was political, the extension of this was
:01:57. > :02:00.political and we're worried about the damage this might be doing to
:02:01. > :02:05.the image of policing. It has been mishandled in that fashion. The
:02:06. > :02:10.other main parties have been giving their views on the circumstances of
:02:11. > :02:13.the arrest. Of course people have the right to criticise if they think
:02:14. > :02:18.the police have got something wrong but to then make that mighty leap
:02:19. > :02:22.from criticism, and there are ways of dealing with that through the
:02:23. > :02:25.Policing Board, to suggesting that you might withdraw support for the
:02:26. > :02:30.police, that is a very serious matter indeed and that is something
:02:31. > :02:36.that the DUP would not contemplate going and I hope Sinn Fein will not.
:02:37. > :02:40.This round of default institutions following St Andrews in 2006, that
:02:41. > :02:45.was based on Sinn Fein buying into support for policing and if they are
:02:46. > :02:54.in anyway moving off at ground, we are in crisis. Proper crisis? Proper
:02:55. > :02:56.crisis. The SDLP Alliance say there is no evidence of political
:02:57. > :03:03.interference around the detention of the Sinn Fein President. I see the
:03:04. > :03:07.fact that Gerry Adams presented himself to the police timing, and
:03:08. > :03:12.the timing was his, so I find it hard to justify when there would be
:03:13. > :03:17.any appropriate time to arrest a political leader. What would be
:03:18. > :03:21.political is that they felt they were in a position to arrest Gerry
:03:22. > :03:25.Adams and they were unable to do so. It is very clear that Gerry Adams
:03:26. > :03:28.offered to help the police with their enquiries and it is steadily
:03:29. > :03:32.rich for Sinn Fein to complain that the police have taken them up on
:03:33. > :03:35.that offer. A decision on whether Gerry Adams will face further action
:03:36. > :03:42.rests with the Public Prosecution Service. We are expecting Gerry
:03:43. > :03:47.Adams to leave through these gates at any moment, there are a number of
:03:48. > :03:50.loyalist protesters present so we are not expecting him to come and
:03:51. > :03:54.speak to the media. We have been told there will be a press
:03:55. > :03:59.conference, probably in one hour, organised by Sinn Fein and we expect
:04:00. > :04:03.to hear from the Sinn Fein leader at that. I should point out that the
:04:04. > :04:06.family of Jean McConville are also planning their own press conference
:04:07. > :04:14.in the next couple of hours. Thank you. Fire crews have dealt with an
:04:15. > :04:18.overnight blaze at retail premises in County Antrim. A bingo hall in
:04:19. > :04:21.Laharna Retail Park on the Circular Road in Larne was damaged in the
:04:22. > :04:25.blaze, which broke out just before 4am this morning. At its height,
:04:26. > :04:28.around 50 firefighters were at the scene and eight pumping appliances
:04:29. > :04:34.had to be used. Those dealing with the fire said it had the potential
:04:35. > :04:41.to be much worse. Luckily, this place did not develop. That would
:04:42. > :04:46.have been due to the initial actions of the crew in attendance. They had
:04:47. > :04:53.a heightened and sustained of the crew in attendance. They had
:04:54. > :04:59.problems. There are innovations at the back of this building that are
:05:00. > :05:03.impacted by the thermal shock, glass was broken but thankfully the fire
:05:04. > :05:12.did not spread into those premises. Nature of the premises, the retail
:05:13. > :05:20.park, means they have premises are joining with significant fire
:05:21. > :05:23.loading within these premises. A car has been damaged in an arson attack
:05:24. > :05:26.in North Belfast. Fire crews were called to the Hallidays Road area
:05:27. > :05:30.shortly before 4:20am this morning after reports that a silver Toyota
:05:31. > :05:33.Aygo was on fire. Police would like any witnesses to contact them. A
:05:34. > :05:37.42-year-old man has been stabbed in Coleraine. It happened close to a
:05:38. > :05:40.car park in the Strand Road area just after midnight. He was taken to
:05:41. > :05:43.hospital with injuries to his back, which aren't thought to be serious.
:05:44. > :05:48.A 26-year-old woman has been arrested. Now the Bank
:05:49. > :05:55.it has been a drizzly day-to-day and the chance of rain continues
:05:56. > :05:58.overnight tonight. Plenty of cloud cover meaning it will be quite mild
:05:59. > :06:04.tonight with the chant of the odd shower going through the night.
:06:05. > :06:07.Those of 10 degrees. Before a more organised band of rain arrives by
:06:08. > :06:13.dawn tomorrow. Tomorrow will start quite cloudy and rain will arrive
:06:14. > :06:22.through the day. That is because we have this mass of warm, moist air.
:06:23. > :06:30.What does that mean for even so the Belfast marathon tomorrow? -- events
:06:31. > :06:33.like. It was reasonable dry but for the later finishers, there will
:06:34. > :06:38.certainly be some blame for the second half of the course. Rain is
:06:39. > :06:43.spreading in from the West as we go through the morning, and there could
:06:44. > :06:49.be some heavy showers mixed in amongst that. There is a North,
:06:50. > :06:56.West, South, East spit. For Scotland and Northern Ireland and West Wales,
:06:57. > :07:02.plenty of rain. For England, much brighter. Certainly much drier also.
:07:03. > :07:08.Through the afternoon it will not feel cold, still temperatures of 13
:07:09. > :07:12.degrees but that chance of showers is ever present. Into next week, it
:07:13. > :07:16.is quite unsettled and quite blustery and that will be one of the
:07:17. > :07:20.key features of next week. Our next Newsline bulletin is at 10:15pm this
:07:21. > :07:23.evening. That will be specially extended. Until then you can keep
