:00:09. > :00:12.Good evening. Tributes have been paid to the road racer Simon Andrews

:00:13. > :00:18.who crashed at the NorthWest 200 and died today. The 31-year-old from

:00:19. > :00:21.Worcestershire in England crashed during the Superstock race on

:00:22. > :00:24.Saturday and was airlifted to hospital. Tonight his family said

:00:25. > :00:33."Racing was in his blood." Martin Cassidy reports.

:00:34. > :00:35.Simon Andrews had only recently returned to top-class competition

:00:36. > :00:41.following a serious injury well taking place in another

:00:42. > :00:44.international motorcycling event. His BMW machine is pictured here at

:00:45. > :00:48.the start of the Superstock race at the North West 200 on Saturday. The

:00:49. > :00:56.31 euros from Worcestershire crashed on the approach to this corner on

:00:57. > :01:00.lap four of the race. No other riders were involved. After medical

:01:01. > :01:04.care at the track-side, the rider was airlifted to the intensive care

:01:05. > :01:09.unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital, where he died today with his

:01:10. > :01:14.parents, girlfriend, and best friend by his bed. We are devastated. Our

:01:15. > :01:18.hearts are broken, they are shattered. Simon loved his racing.

:01:19. > :01:24.You love the North West, he loved racing over a year. He wouldn't have

:01:25. > :01:28.changed anything. If we had tried to stop him, he wouldn't have stopped

:01:29. > :01:33.racing. He loved the people, he loved the atmosphere, he loved every

:01:34. > :01:37.single moment. Tonight the world of motorcycle racing has been paying

:01:38. > :01:42.tribute to Simon Andrews. Veteran racer Jeremy McWilliams has tweeted

:01:43. > :01:49.he is very sorry to hear the terrible news. World Superbike racer

:01:50. > :01:59.Jonathan Bray said such sad news hearing that Simon Andrews has

:02:00. > :02:02.passed away. Gone away too soon. Mervyn Whyte says the circumstances

:02:03. > :02:07.of the crash will be fully investigated. We have worked and

:02:08. > :02:10.worked and worked on safety over the years, and we will continue to do

:02:11. > :02:16.that. That is uppermost in our minds. Safety is a priority for your

:02:17. > :02:18.competitors and your spectators. We will certainly look and see what

:02:19. > :02:24.happened at that particular occasion, but now is not the time to

:02:25. > :02:29.look at where we are, but to move forward and see what we do in the

:02:30. > :02:34.future his parents said Simon was fully aware of the dangers involved,

:02:35. > :02:39.but loved the challenge of rogue racing. You never expect you're

:02:40. > :02:43.going to lose your son, watch you can't stop a grown man doing what he

:02:44. > :02:49.wants. It seems to be in the blood, it is an adrenaline race, and they

:02:50. > :02:56.just love being on motorcycles. But they know the risks, and we paid the

:02:57. > :03:01.price. Another racer at the North West 200, Franck Petricola is still

:03:02. > :03:09.critically ill in hospital. The Frenchman was hurt during a practice

:03:10. > :03:12.session last Tuesday. The County Down rider Michael

:03:13. > :03:14.Pearson is seriously injured after a crash in the Czech Republic

:03:15. > :03:18.yesterday. The Ballygowan man was taking part in a superbike event.

:03:19. > :03:21.And many BBC Newsline viewers have been logging onto our Facebook Page

:03:22. > :03:24.with some adding messages of sympathy following the death of

:03:25. > :03:27.Simon Andrews. The fisherman who was rescued off

:03:28. > :03:32.the coast in County Donegal yesterday has been released from

:03:33. > :03:36.hospital. A man on land half a mile away heard him cry for help as he

:03:37. > :03:41.held onto a lobster buoy and the emergency services were alerted. He

:03:42. > :03:45.was picked up by an RNLI crew and brought ashore. Earlier today Our

:03:46. > :03:53.North West reporter Keiron Tourish went to Tullagh Bay.

:03:54. > :04:00.By any stretch of the imagination, this was quite a remarkable turn of

:04:01. > :04:05.events yesterday afternoon about 2pm. A local fisherman was out

:04:06. > :04:10.tending his lobster pots, when he got into difficulty. This story

:04:11. > :04:15.could easily have turned to tragedy, but for the heroics of one local

:04:16. > :04:19.family. John Grant, what actually happened? We were on the house

:04:20. > :04:23.working with sheep, and we thought we could somebody shouting for

:04:24. > :04:28.help. We couldn't really make it out, it was really think. My mum

:04:29. > :04:32.told me to come down on the quad and have a look. I came down and I

:04:33. > :04:36.couldn't see anything, and I asked a couple people if they had heard

:04:37. > :04:39.anything and they said no. I looked again and scanned across the water,

:04:40. > :04:45.and I could see a black dot echoing the distance, and I could see an arm

:04:46. > :04:48.waving, and I knew there was somebody in trouble out there, and I

:04:49. > :04:53.had no phone with me so I came back up and said to my mum, there is

:04:54. > :04:59.somebody out there in trouble. And that is where you came into play.

:05:00. > :05:04.What happened next? , well, when John gave me the signal, I rang

:05:05. > :05:07.because guard and the doctor need to everything. They dispatched to

:05:08. > :05:14.lifeboats and a helicopter from Sligo, and luckily enough, there was

:05:15. > :05:18.a bolt out on a fishing trip, and the responded straightaway. I stood

:05:19. > :05:26.up on the quad and I guided the boat to where the man was in the water.

:05:27. > :05:32.We were on scene about three or four minutes later and cruel -- crew had

:05:33. > :05:37.boarded the vessel. Then we were treating him for first aid, for

:05:38. > :05:42.hypothermia. And the helicopter had landed on scene. The helicopter

:05:43. > :05:45.paramedic had then come down and we had already transferred because of

:05:46. > :05:52.the two-hour board. It could have gone to ways, but thankfully it went

:05:53. > :05:56.in our favour. Quite a dramatic operation, and quicker magic that is

:05:57. > :06:00.we have seen today. It was, but at the time you did not think of

:06:01. > :06:04.dramatics at all, you were just glad that the man in the water was being

:06:05. > :06:13.saved. Thank God it had a happy outcome. There is a wife and four

:06:14. > :06:16.children who still have a father. The US financial services firm,

:06:17. > :06:18.Citigroup, is set to announce a significant investment in its

:06:19. > :06:21.Belfast operation. Industry sources have told the BBC that the firm is

:06:22. > :06:24.expected to shortly announce at least one hundred new jobs. The

:06:25. > :06:27.company employs about thirteen hundred people at two offices in the

:06:28. > :06:33.Titanic Quarter, working mainly in technology and compliance.

:06:34. > :06:37.The police have set up a dedicated phone line for reporting hate crime.

:06:38. > :06:41.The recent spate of racist attacks has led to the move. The police will

:06:42. > :06:45.be able to translate calls into almost 50 languages. The new service

:06:46. > :06:56.can be contacted through the non emergency 101 number. We are trying

:06:57. > :07:00.to encourage as many victims as possible to feel comfortable enough

:07:01. > :07:03.to contact the police service and tellers of these incidents so that

:07:04. > :07:09.we can deal with them effectively. We are not going to arrest anybody,

:07:10. > :07:15.because we know that this is an issue that a new Northern Ireland is

:07:16. > :07:22.going to have to get to grips with. I think this is good for anybody who

:07:23. > :07:26.has witnessed hate crime, it is good to encourage anybody who has been a

:07:27. > :07:29.witness to contact the police, although we can't lose concentration

:07:30. > :07:32.on the fact that this has been an ongoing issue for many years, and it

:07:33. > :07:37.needs to be an issue that is looked at any very strategic and joined up

:07:38. > :07:39.way. We can't rely on the helpline to solve the problem or the issue.

:07:40. > :07:42.Looking ahead to some special reports starting tomorrow on BBC

:07:43. > :07:46.News. Our reporter Andy West spent four days and nights living rough on

:07:47. > :07:50.the streets of Belfast to discover a little of what it's like to be

:07:51. > :07:55.homeless. That first report is on BBC Newsline tomorrow evening at

:07:56. > :07:59.6.30pm. Funny how different the world looks from down here.

:08:00. > :08:04.Completely different view on the world is passing by. It's also funny

:08:05. > :08:08.how people, almost all people, do exactly the same thing when they

:08:09. > :08:13.walk past. They look at you and then instantly look away. Andy will also

:08:14. > :08:16.be talking about his experience on the radio on Good Morning Ulster and

:08:17. > :08:17.his diary is on our News Online site.

:08:18. > :08:29.The weather is next with Barra Best. It got quite exciting earlier as we

:08:30. > :08:33.have the thunderstorms moving in. We may get some more thunderstorms in

:08:34. > :08:38.the next few hours. But generally it will come down over the course of

:08:39. > :08:43.the night, and we will have a lot of cloud around, so not so-called.

:08:44. > :08:47.Temperatures of 11 or 12 Celsius. Low pressure is in control, and that

:08:48. > :08:53.means it will be quite unsettled. A rather Bray and cloudy day

:08:54. > :08:56.tomorrow. Not raining all day, but we will see some outbreaks coming in

:08:57. > :09:01.from the Irish Sea. There will be the odd rumble of thunder too, and

:09:02. > :09:06.some quite heavy downpours, so do prepare yourself a few are out and

:09:07. > :09:11.about. It will be an unsettled night across the Northern Ireland, and

:09:12. > :09:15.also into Wales to. Any unsettled weather for eastern areas of England

:09:16. > :09:20.will gradually die away, and here we have temperatures getting up into

:09:21. > :09:24.the low 20s, and not a bad day for Scotland as well. Although generally

:09:25. > :09:28.cooler. Some of the showers we get across Britain tomorrow may well be

:09:29. > :09:33.heavy with some thunder too, so something to bear in mind. Out and

:09:34. > :09:36.about tomorrow, it will not be raining all day, there will be some

:09:37. > :09:43.drier weather too, and it will be a bit mitre -- milder. We will see

:09:44. > :09:47.tempter is nudging up to 17 Celsius. Some good news as we head towards

:09:48. > :09:51.the middle of the week, things will settle down, especially for central

:09:52. > :09:57.and eastern areas. We will keep you updated the and on twitter. That's

:09:58. > :10:00.all for now. Good night. Let's look at the history

:10:01. > :10:04.of BBC TWO with me, Simon Schama. 'Harry And Paul's

:10:05. > :10:10.Story Of The 2s - part of 'the Big Bumper Bank Holiday

:10:11. > :10:14.Comedy 50th Birthday Weekend.'
