:00:00. > :00:00.That's all from us. Don't forget, there's a first look

:00:00. > :00:11.The victim of a racist assault says his attackers beat him

:00:12. > :00:15.and threatened to burn his home and run down his young daughter.

:00:16. > :00:17.The man was targeted off the Springfield Road in

:00:18. > :00:21.This evening an anti-racism protest was held in the area.

:00:22. > :00:27.Today good wishes came to the door of Ade's home in West Belfast

:00:28. > :00:33.but last night, just yards away, he was attacked in broad daylight.

:00:34. > :00:38.This is a man, this is someone with a family, you just want to get up,

:00:39. > :00:45.I said, excuse me, don't call me those names.

:00:46. > :00:48.They said, what are you going to do, you're going to get

:00:49. > :00:51.your house burnt down, we will run you and your daughter down.

:00:52. > :00:55.He suffered cuts and bruises and needed stitches to

:00:56. > :01:03.When I stood up there was blood coming out of my mouth.

:01:04. > :01:06.Two men arrested in connection with the attack have been released

:01:07. > :01:10.pending further enquiries. There is shock in the community.

:01:11. > :01:14.We are ashamed that racist attacks have been visited on our community.

:01:15. > :01:18.We know the value of the ethnic minorities in West Belfast.

:01:19. > :01:22.We see it every day in the Royal Victoria Hospital, working

:01:23. > :01:28.They are our neighbours and we support them.

:01:29. > :01:39.Since coming to Northern Ireland, he has lived in several places

:01:40. > :01:42.around Belfast and has been the victim of racist attacks before.

:01:43. > :01:46.It wasn't my fault I was born with my colour, it wasn't their fault

:01:47. > :01:52.If you cut me, if you cut them, we have the same colour of blood.

:01:53. > :01:54.He says he and his family will not be

:01:55. > :01:58.threatened out of West Belfast and tonight dozens of people turned out

:01:59. > :02:03.And the PSNI said tonight that a third man, who is 19,

:02:04. > :02:05.had been arrested in connection with the incident.

:02:06. > :02:08.The Director of Public Prosecutions has told a committee

:02:09. > :02:11.of MPs that letters sent to so called on-the-runs telling them

:02:12. > :02:13.they were not wanted by the police are "largely

:02:14. > :02:19.But the widow of an RUC officer murdered by the IRA described

:02:20. > :02:31.Our home affairs correspondent Vincent Kearney reports.

:02:32. > :02:33.Part-time RUC officer Dougie Carruthers was killed

:02:34. > :02:37.when an IRA bomb exploded under his car outside his home in May 1991.

:02:38. > :02:40.14 years later, his widow went to Downing Street to

:02:41. > :02:43.urge Tony Blair not to introduce legislation aimed at ensuring those

:02:44. > :02:49.classified as on-the-runs wouldn't spend time in jail.

:02:50. > :02:52.Today at Stormont she spoke of her anger at learning that

:02:53. > :02:58.Tony Blair's government had operated a scheme I feel deep hurt and

:02:59. > :03:08.Which resulted in letters being sent to republican suspects assuring them

:03:09. > :03:13.they were not wanted by the police. I feel deep hurt and my husband

:03:14. > :03:20.memory trampled upon, along with the other husbands and

:03:21. > :03:23.family members that were murdered. Earlier,

:03:24. > :03:24.the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee heard evidence from

:03:25. > :03:27.a man at the heart of the debate. Barra McGrory is now Director

:03:28. > :03:30.of Public Prosecutions, but in his previous role

:03:31. > :03:33.as a solicitor he acted on behalf of Sinn Fein and submitted names

:03:34. > :03:36.of republican suspects to the police asking if they were wanted

:03:37. > :03:39.by the prosecution authorities. Mr McGrory, do you accept that

:03:40. > :03:42.in terms of your standing you are the personification of the poacher

:03:43. > :03:46.turned gamekeeper in this case? You have said that to me before,

:03:47. > :03:50.and it is not a term I would The existence of the letters came to

:03:51. > :03:54.light in February when an Old Bailey judge ruled that John Downey would

:03:55. > :03:58.not stand trial for murder Barra McGrory said that

:03:59. > :04:03.the letters sent to almost 200 republicans were of little value

:04:04. > :04:12.if new evidence emerges. Is your view that these

:04:13. > :04:14.letters are worthless? Maybe not entirely worthless but I

:04:15. > :04:21.think they are. He was asked about

:04:22. > :04:26.the legal status of the letters. These letters are

:04:27. > :04:38.of not great legal significance. anyone who is in receipt of one of

:04:39. > :04:42.these letters... Peter Robinson later told

:04:43. > :04:50.the committee his party had not known about the scheme until the

:04:51. > :04:53.collapse of the John Downey trial. He said it was a dark chapter in the

:04:54. > :04:57.chronicles of government conduct. Meanwhile,

:04:58. > :04:59.the Secretary of State has confirmed that royal pardons were used to free

:05:00. > :05:03.former supergrasses in the 1980s. But Theresa Villiers says she thinks

:05:04. > :05:06.it would be wrong to publicly name the former terrorist prisoners who

:05:07. > :05:09.were given a Royal Prerogative I don't think it would be helpful to

:05:10. > :05:17.discuss individual names and cases. It has not been the practice

:05:18. > :05:20.in Northern Ireland to publish the identity

:05:21. > :05:25.of peoples who received the RPM. I can see a case for doing this

:05:26. > :05:29.differently in the future, but I am not convinced making a change

:05:30. > :05:33.retrospectively would be wise. The First and Deputy First Ministers

:05:34. > :05:36.have been invited to Brazil next It's understood they have been

:05:37. > :05:39.invited to visit Marfrig, the Brazilian parent company

:05:40. > :05:42.of the food processor Moy Park. Marfrig is one

:05:43. > :05:44.of the official sponsors of the World Cup which starts this

:05:45. > :05:47.week and runs until mid-July. Our political editor Mark Devenport

:05:48. > :05:59.has more. Moy Park's parent company Marfrig is

:06:00. > :06:04.one of the official sponsors of the World Cup, but a senior Stormont

:06:05. > :06:08.source insisted anyone jumping to the conclusion this trip is a World

:06:09. > :06:13.Cup trumpet could not be more mistaken. The source said the

:06:14. > :06:16.investment mission would be important for securing jobs and the

:06:17. > :06:21.two politicians would get to see more football if they stayed at home

:06:22. > :06:25.and watched TV. Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness were last in

:06:26. > :06:25.Brazil when they visited Marfrig's headquarters in Sao Paulo last

:06:26. > :06:29.March. A 50-year-old man's been arrested

:06:30. > :06:32.in connection with a stabbing It happened at this fishing tackle

:06:33. > :06:36.shop on the Upper Newtownards Road. A 66-year-old man was stabbed

:06:37. > :06:39.in the head and neck. It's thought his injuries

:06:40. > :06:44.are not life-threatening. The red carpet was laid out this

:06:45. > :06:48.evening for some of the cast of the hit TV series Game of Thrones,

:06:49. > :06:52.who are in Belfast for a sold-out exhibition on the show, which opens

:06:53. > :06:55.at the Waterfront Hall tomorrow. It's a chance for fans to see

:06:56. > :06:58.original artefacts from the fantasy drama, which is filmed on location

:06:59. > :07:11.throughout Northern Ireland. It's our most watched series ever,

:07:12. > :07:15.since the Sopranos, so it's incredible and having all of the

:07:16. > :07:20.items from the set of doom of the milk rounds at an exhibition where

:07:21. > :07:24.fans can see it is incredible but it even more incredible to be here in

:07:25. > :07:25.Belfast because it's a homecoming for all these items because they

:07:26. > :07:28.originated here. Sport, and in golf, the US Open

:07:29. > :07:32.tees off in two days? time. Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke

:07:33. > :07:35.and Graeme McDowell are all there Graeme McDowell won it in 2010,

:07:36. > :07:40.and he says he is ready to give it I'm better prepared than I ever was

:07:41. > :07:48.for these types of test, it doesn't necessarily mean you will

:07:49. > :07:53.have success, but means I am ready And now

:07:54. > :07:56.for a look ahead to a story that we We've been to County Fermanagh to

:07:57. > :08:01.trace the history of a cluster of houses that were given to soldiers

:08:02. > :08:04.returning after the First World War. Most have long since fallen into

:08:05. > :08:08.ruin, but one family still remains. Don't miss that fascinating special

:08:09. > :08:11.report from Chris Buckler tomorrow And now with the weather,

:08:12. > :08:26.here's Barra Best. We have had some active weather this

:08:27. > :08:31.evening and some thunderstorms, but they are dying away and tonight the

:08:32. > :08:35.dry weather will begin to take over. It will be cooler than last night,

:08:36. > :08:40.temperatures in single figures in some places, most likely parts of

:08:41. > :08:45.Tyrone and Fermanagh, and maybe some Mr report first thing tomorrow.

:08:46. > :08:49.Otherwise whether they will be a better day, brighter and drier with

:08:50. > :08:55.good spells of sunshine. There will be just a few showers but to begin

:08:56. > :09:01.with not a bad start forgetting the grass cut. Very few showers in the

:09:02. > :09:04.forecast first thing. In the afternoon, across Britain and

:09:05. > :09:09.Ireland it is a much better picture, certainly drier and brighter. The

:09:10. > :09:14.cloud will bubble up across Ireland later in the day but it will be

:09:15. > :09:19.quite bright with sunny spells and 20 of dry and bright sunny weather

:09:20. > :09:23.along Britain, temperatures in the South East may be reaching 24

:09:24. > :09:28.degrees. Scotland may see one or two showers later. Across Northern

:09:29. > :09:33.Ireland, it will be largely dry and bright. We can expect to see

:09:34. > :09:38.sunshine and where we get the best sunshine temperatures may reach 20

:09:39. > :09:44.degrees. Winds will be light as well. As we go ahead to Thursday,

:09:45. > :09:49.there may be a little damp weather in the north coast, temperatures up

:09:50. > :09:54.again, and high pressure is promising more settled weather as we

:09:55. > :10:01.go towards the weekend. That it for now. You can keep up-to-date with

:10:02. > :10:02.news online and follow this programme on Facebook and Twitter.

:10:03. > :10:03.The night. the weekend forecast this time

:10:04. > :10:12.tomorrow. Until then, good night. I saw you before and I thought

:10:13. > :10:16.you were so beautiful.
