:00:00. > 3:59:59That's all from us. There is a first look at the papers

:00:00. > :00:10.A school principal has described a pupil who died

:00:11. > :00:13.in a cliff accident at the weekend as ?a real character?.

:00:14. > :00:16.It's believed Logan Crawford, who was seven years old,

:00:17. > :00:19.had been playing with friends in Ballycastle yesterday evening.

:00:20. > :00:34.Logan Crawford fell along the coastline close to his home, a

:00:35. > :00:39.dangerous coastline. Today, a police car beside the spot where he fell,

:00:40. > :00:44.down a steep and sheer cliff face. The area is noted for its beauty,

:00:45. > :00:49.majestic on a summer's day and it was while playing on a summer's day

:00:50. > :00:52.that the tragedy unfolded, leaving a family grieving and 200 school

:00:53. > :00:54.children coming to terms with the loss of their friend. Logan's school

:00:55. > :01:06.principal said... The exact circumstances of why and

:01:07. > :01:13.how the little boy fell are still being investigated. It is an area

:01:14. > :01:17.popular with tourists for its breathtaking beauty. But locals here

:01:18. > :01:22.know that the scenery can be matched by danger. The rescue services are

:01:23. > :01:27.all too familiar with the danger and always among the first to respond.

:01:28. > :01:30.Our lifeboat was very quickly on the scene here, along with the cliff

:01:31. > :01:34.rescue team from the local coastguard. With the cliffs and

:01:35. > :01:40.whatnot, we knew the child had fallen over the cliff, some you just

:01:41. > :01:44.try and do your very best. Unfortunately, after the child was

:01:45. > :01:48.found, the father was on the shoreline, so we took him aboard the

:01:49. > :01:55.lifeboat and took him around here and he was taken to the hospital.

:01:56. > :01:58.The father's journey to the hospital ended in heartbreak, learning that

:01:59. > :02:05.his son did not survive his fall. The rescue services responded to

:02:06. > :02:08.three emergencies on the north and north-west coast. One, and injured

:02:09. > :02:14.fishermen and another, a diver lost his life and last night, this

:02:15. > :02:18.tragedy. Today, the police investigation is still evident along

:02:19. > :02:19.the busy to restrict and at the entrance to the scene of the

:02:20. > :02:22.tragedy, a tribute. A former taxi driver who was jailed

:02:23. > :02:25.for the armed robbery of a post office in 1973 has won

:02:26. > :02:29.a legal battle to clear his name. 73-year-old Frank Newell,

:02:30. > :02:31.from the Shankill area of Belfast, He has always insisted

:02:32. > :02:34.his car was hijacked The Court

:02:35. > :02:38.of Appeal ruled that the conviction should be quashed as crucial

:02:39. > :02:39.material undermining the prosecution case

:02:40. > :02:59.had not been disclosed. I have been vindicated. Anybody that

:03:00. > :03:05.knows me knows that I didn't do this. The judge said this morning,

:03:06. > :03:08.senior judge, it should never have came to court, I should never have

:03:09. > :03:15.been convicted. And I was over the moon. My relations are delighted.

:03:16. > :03:18.The best thing that has happened to me in 40 years.

:03:19. > :03:20.And you can hear more of that radio interview tomorrow

:03:21. > :03:24.A 41-year-old man has been in court charged with the murder

:03:25. > :03:27.It's understood the mother of two, Denise Dunlop, was stabbed several

:03:28. > :03:29.times in her Ballymena home early yesterday morning.

:03:30. > :03:36.Our North-West reporter Keiron Tourish was in the court.

:03:37. > :03:43.32-year-old Denise Dunlop was found dead at her home in Ballymena in the

:03:44. > :03:47.early hours of yesterday morning. It is understood she had been stabbed

:03:48. > :03:51.several times with a knife. Detectives launched a murder inquiry

:03:52. > :03:55.following the incident and forensic teams have spent much of the day in

:03:56. > :03:59.and around the home. The houses there were previously used as family

:04:00. > :04:04.accommodation that soldiers on the site of the former St Patrick's

:04:05. > :04:07.Baron will stop -- barracks. They were taken over by a housing

:04:08. > :04:11.association and civilian families moved in last year. The death has

:04:12. > :04:16.shocked many local people, who described the area is very quiet and

:04:17. > :04:20.peaceful. Before the court this morning was the partner of Denise

:04:21. > :04:28.Dunlop. He is 41-year-old Richard McAuley, who is unemployed. He is

:04:29. > :04:35.accused of the murder of the 32-year-old. During the two-minute

:04:36. > :04:38.hearing, Richard McAuley, dressed in a blue top and trousers, sat

:04:39. > :04:44.impassively in the dock. He spoke only once, to confirm he understood

:04:45. > :04:47.the charge. A detective told the court he could connect him to the

:04:48. > :04:51.offence. He was remanded in custody until the 10th of July. No

:04:52. > :04:55.application was made for bail during the brief hearing.

:04:56. > :04:58.An inquest jury has been told that a suicidal prisoner who hanged

:04:59. > :05:00.himself was not monitored as he should have been.

:05:01. > :05:02.50-year-old John Deery, from Londonderry, died in August

:05:03. > :05:07.2009 when staff had not checked him for almost two hours.

:05:08. > :05:09.The Coroner's Court was told that CCTV video had shown

:05:10. > :05:13.a three-day period when prison staff checked on John Deery 233 times and

:05:14. > :05:21.The jury also heard that in a log a prison officer had written the

:05:22. > :05:24.prisoner was asleep when the inmate was on the phone to the Samaritans.

:05:25. > :05:30.Five people, including a 16-year-old boy, have been arrested

:05:31. > :05:32.by police officers investigating reports of rogue traders and bogus

:05:33. > :05:37.Three men and a woman are also detained on suspicion of fraud

:05:38. > :05:44.and burglary offences in The Close in Holywood this morning.

:05:45. > :05:46.The official confirmation came today that Royal Portrush golf club will

:05:47. > :05:55.stage The Open for the first time since 1951.

:05:56. > :05:57.The decision to host the tournament follows the successful staging

:05:58. > :06:01.BBC Newsline's Mark Simpson spent the day in the town to get

:06:02. > :06:13.These are exciting times for Portrush. It has always been at an

:06:14. > :06:18.associated with entertainment. Now comes one of the world's most famous

:06:19. > :06:21.sporting events. Like everything, it comes at a price, but Stormont

:06:22. > :06:27.ministers won't say exactly how much they are paying to bring The Open

:06:28. > :06:30.here. I will say this, in terms of the money we are putting in, the

:06:31. > :06:34.millions we are putting it will come back tenfold to us and I don't think

:06:35. > :06:39.anybody could underestimate what is happening here today. Is it millions

:06:40. > :06:44.or tens of millions? I think I've made it clear that I'm not going to

:06:45. > :06:47.speculate on how much it is. I had said the money we put in, we'll get

:06:48. > :06:53.back in tens of millions. Give us ballpark. I'm not giving you a

:06:54. > :06:58.ballpark. It is believed to be somewhere in the region of ?7

:06:59. > :07:01.million. An economic return is estimated at 70 million. But will

:07:02. > :07:07.any of the money go to Portrush itself? Absolutely, the money will

:07:08. > :07:13.made rapidly to be made in Portrush. There will not be a bed space

:07:14. > :07:17.anywhere for the week of the Open and in the week leading up to it.

:07:18. > :07:22.That is what they were told about the Irish open two years ago and

:07:23. > :07:25.many were left disappointed as spectators watch the golf but didn't

:07:26. > :07:30.come into the town centre. I think a lot of businesses are here dug for a

:07:31. > :07:33.lot of people coming, but it never happened. It was a bit

:07:34. > :07:37.disappointing. But lessons have been learned and the news that the Open

:07:38. > :07:43.is now coming to town is going down well. It is good for Portrush in

:07:44. > :07:49.general, we work together as a team, so if it benefits one area, it

:07:50. > :07:53.will benefit us all. People can play golf, walk the beaches, go and eat,

:07:54. > :08:00.come and see us, the overall image is great. There is the odd grumble,

:08:01. > :08:02.but overall, the mood in the area is very positive and people are looking

:08:03. > :08:07.forward to showing of this spectacular part of the world. Sun,

:08:08. > :08:12.sea and sand. Sea and sand are guaranteed, anyway. It may not be

:08:13. > :08:15.for another five years, but it seems the Open on the north coast will be

:08:16. > :08:18.worth waiting for. Whatever the weather.

:08:19. > :08:21.Time now to find out if that good weather is set to continue.

:08:22. > :08:31.Here's Geoff Maskell. Hasn't it been an absolutely

:08:32. > :08:35.glorious day today. We did just miss out on it being the warmest day of

:08:36. > :08:40.the year so far, but we will have another crack at the record

:08:41. > :08:44.tomorrow. This evening does become quite cloudy overnight, temperatures

:08:45. > :08:47.staying very mild, though, 11 or 12 degrees, but as we get into

:08:48. > :08:52.tomorrow, another dry and bright today as we go through the day,

:08:53. > :08:56.although just a bit cloudy to start. Some mist and fog just start with,

:08:57. > :09:01.but once we have some heat in the day, it will start to burn back and

:09:02. > :09:04.we get some breaks in the cloud. The weather is down to this high

:09:05. > :09:07.pressure system which is keeping things beautifully settled as we go

:09:08. > :09:11.through the next few days. Take a look at this picture across the UK

:09:12. > :09:16.and Ireland and I think it looks like summer, don't you? Bright skies

:09:17. > :09:20.and temperatures in the mid-20s. As we go through the afternoon, plenty

:09:21. > :09:25.of bright and sunny spells through the day, very pleasant and

:09:26. > :09:31.temperatures very acceptable indeed, up to 21, 20 2 degrees. And that

:09:32. > :09:34.really is the picture again on Wednesday -- 22 degrees. If

:09:35. > :09:38.anything, brighter on Wednesday, that is reflected in the

:09:39. > :09:43.temperatures. We might see the odd shower bubbling up here and there,

:09:44. > :09:47.highs of 22 or 23. We have a settled quality to our weather due to the

:09:48. > :09:50.high-pressure system. It carries on right the way through the week. A

:09:51. > :09:58.little bit cooler towards the weekend but still very pleasant and

:09:59. > :10:09.very usable. That is it now, we are back tomorrow

:10:10. > :10:13.So much pressure, so much expectation.

:10:14. > :10:17.It's the title that all the players want to win.
