:00:07. > :00:07.Hello and welcome to BBC Newsline. the London Mayor, Boris Johnson.
:00:08. > :00:11.A man originally from Nigeria has said he will not be
:00:12. > :00:14.moving in to a Housing Executive property in east Belfast,
:00:15. > :00:19.Banners with the words ?local homes for local people?
:00:20. > :00:22.were hung on the gate of the house in the Garnerville area.
:00:23. > :00:25.As BBC Newsline's Mark Simpson now reports police removed the banners
:00:26. > :00:37.This man has been living in Northern Ireland for four years. He was
:00:38. > :00:41.allocated a housing executive property in east Belfast. But the
:00:42. > :00:47.house he was hoping to move into was covered in protest poster. Local
:00:48. > :00:57.houses for local people was written on one of the banners. It's about
:00:58. > :01:02.discrimination and intimidation and racism. It speaks for itself. The
:01:03. > :01:08.banner they have placed there, local housing for local people. It is just
:01:09. > :01:12.shameful this is happening in this era. Michael has a three-year-old
:01:13. > :01:17.son who lives with him during part of the week. The protesters said
:01:18. > :01:20.their opposition to the family was nothing to do with the colour of
:01:21. > :01:25.their skin. They said the house should have gone to pensioners or
:01:26. > :01:30.the disabled. The protesters only agreed to speak on television if
:01:31. > :01:35.their faces were not shown. It is a mixed community. We do not have no
:01:36. > :01:40.racism up here. Why does nobody want to appear on camera? Now we are
:01:41. > :01:48.being called racist, which we are horrified. We are embarrassed about
:01:49. > :01:52.it. We are not racist. This is about a bung allow ekiped for pensioners
:01:53. > :01:54.and they cannot put families into them. As we were filming, the police
:01:55. > :01:59.arrived and removed the banners from them. As we were filming, the police
:02:00. > :02:04.around the house. One by one they were taken away and the street is
:02:05. > :02:08.now back to normal. But it is too late for Michael. He was supposed to
:02:09. > :02:12.move into the house this week. Now he says he doesn't know where he is
:02:13. > :02:19.going to stay. But he wants to remain in Belfast. I have received
:02:20. > :02:26.loads of text messages on Facebook as well and supporting me and they
:02:27. > :02:31.condemned that act. That is enough for me to realise Belfast is not
:02:32. > :02:34.bad. It seems this was not an isolated incident. Tonight the
:02:35. > :02:39.housing executive said there had been more than ten cases in South
:02:40. > :02:42.and East Belfast where people couldn't move into the house they
:02:43. > :02:46.had been allocated. The First Minister Peter Robinson
:02:47. > :02:48.said he doesn't think the protest He was speaking to our political
:02:49. > :03:00.editor Mark Devenport. I'm not sure this can be described
:03:01. > :03:04.as racism in term of what the intention of people was. There is
:03:05. > :03:09.concern and local in these terms means very local. You might have had
:03:10. > :03:15.the same reaction if it was somebody from up country moving into an area
:03:16. > :03:22.where local people can't get houses. So really. Do you really think that
:03:23. > :03:27.would have been the case if they had seen somebody with a white face
:03:28. > :03:31.moving in. I know it has happened elsewhere. There is people who have
:03:32. > :03:35.been brought up and raised and lived in housing estates all of their
:03:36. > :03:37.lives, their children grow up in the area and they cannot get them
:03:38. > :03:43.housed. So there is that resentment. Exactly 20 years ago today,
:03:44. > :03:46.six Catholic men were shot dead by the UVF as they watched a World
:03:47. > :03:49.Cup game at a pub in Loughinisland. Their relatives have reacted angrily
:03:50. > :03:52.to a fresh appeal for information They've accused the PSNI
:03:53. > :03:56.of hypocrisy for making the appeal - just two weeks after the Chief
:03:57. > :03:59.Constable was accused of withholding Our Home Affairs Correspondent
:04:00. > :04:16.Vincent Kearney reports. It should have been a night of
:04:17. > :04:23.celebration. It goes for the shot. Ray Houghton! Shortly after goal
:04:24. > :04:30.that beat Italy and secured the greatest victory in the republic's
:04:31. > :04:36.history, within seconds men who had been watching the match had been
:04:37. > :04:42.shot dead. A survivor has written about the attack and today Colin
:04:43. > :04:48.read an extract describing how his best friend's father saved his life.
:04:49. > :04:54.We are being hit, I shouted. He throws himself on top of me to save
:04:55. > :04:59.me from the bullets. I'm falling back now. Off my stool. And again I
:05:00. > :05:11.glimpse temperatures two boiler suits at the -- glimpse the the two
:05:12. > :05:17.boiler suits at the door. I assumed they're bull elts, but I feel no
:05:18. > :05:22.pain. I have nothing to compare this to. He is lying on me now.
:05:23. > :05:28.Completely still. Too still, I think. I slide out from under him.
:05:29. > :05:34.There are no moans, no breathing. Just silence. No one has ever been
:05:35. > :05:38.convicted of the murders. 20 years on, the PSNI appeal ed to anyone
:05:39. > :05:46.with information that could help catch the killers to come forward.
:05:47. > :05:50.But a solicitor for the families said they're angry because evidence
:05:51. > :05:54.provided at the time was destroyed. Thits This was a case the public did
:05:55. > :05:57.provided at the time was destroyed. assist within hours the getaway car
:05:58. > :06:00.was found by a member of the public. Within weeks all of the exhibits in
:06:01. > :06:06.the case, the guns, Within weeks all of the exhibits in
:06:07. > :06:08.the boiler suits, the gloves were all found by
:06:09. > :06:10.the boiler suits, the gloves were securing that evidence, the police
:06:11. > :06:18.set about destroying that evidence. The families have criticised the
:06:19. > :06:22.PSNI for refusing to give the police ombudsman information about the
:06:23. > :06:26.attack. Michael Maguire is investigating allegations that the
:06:27. > :06:30.killings were not properly investigated, because an informer
:06:31. > :06:35.was being protected. He is taking the Chief Constable to court in an
:06:36. > :06:37.attempt to force him to hand over information he says his
:06:38. > :06:39.investigators need. It is understood the two sides are engaged in
:06:40. > :06:46.discussions about the issue. Meanwhile, tonight in Loughinisland
:06:47. > :06:49.there was an anniversary mass for the six men who died followed
:06:50. > :06:51.by a procession by relatives, other victims and friends.
:06:52. > :06:53.They walked to the Heights Bar, where the shooting took place
:06:54. > :07:03.and held a vigil The chairman of the
:07:04. > :07:08.Historical Institutional Abuse The inquiry is examining allegations
:07:09. > :07:10.of abuse in institutions run by the church, state or charities
:07:11. > :07:13.between 1922 and 1995. If the extension is granted,
:07:14. > :07:16.the inquiry's report will be given Campaigners say that's
:07:17. > :07:42.too long to wait. If they need that extra year, change
:07:43. > :07:43.the terms of reference and set up a redress board now for us victims.
:07:44. > :07:44.There is enough evidence there through the acknowledgement form and
:07:45. > :07:48.I'm sure they could study the report right up-to-date and find out
:07:49. > :07:53.where... Who the onus is on for the neglect and abuse we suffered.
:07:54. > :07:56.Rory McIlroy says he intends to play for Ireland at the Olympic Games
:07:57. > :08:00.The 25-year-old from Holywood was eligible to play for Great Britain
:08:01. > :08:03.or Ireland and his choice had been the subject of ongoing speculation.
:08:04. > :08:07.He was speaking in County Cork ahead of this week's Irish Open.
:08:08. > :08:14.I'm a product of Northern Ireland and you know we have the British
:08:15. > :08:18.school system and we pay for everything in sterling. So there is
:08:19. > :08:28.obviously parts of me that feel a bit that way. But I have always
:08:29. > :08:43.grown up wanting to play for Ireland. Whether, it is not golf,
:08:44. > :09:11.rugby, cricket, hockey, they all view Ireland as one. Obviously I'm
:09:12. > :09:32.close to a lot of the Ulster boys and all they want to do is get in
:09:33. > :09:46.the Ireland team and they're proud to pull on the green jersey. Just as
:09:47. > :09:53.I will be in a couple of years time. It was another hot day today. But is
:09:54. > :09:55.there a change on the way? We have had another cracking days with
:09:56. > :09:57.temperatures up to 25 degrees. As we go through tonight, it won't be as
:09:58. > :10:00.warm as it has been. Temperatures down to 12 degrees. So we will see
:10:01. > :10:03.more cloud drift in and that will bring some cooler air tomorrow. But
:10:04. > :10:06.it is still going to be pretty good. Temperatures will be back to normal
:10:07. > :10:08.for the time of year, about four or five degrees lower than today.
:10:09. > :10:11.Across Britain and Ireland tomorrow it stays settled with some rain in
:10:12. > :10:14.England. Staying cool at 15 degrees in the north. Further south and west
:10:15. > :10:16.it will be warmer with temperatures in low 20s. Tomorrow it will be dry
:10:17. > :10:27.and bright and we will see some sunshine. Taerments up to about 19
:10:28. > :10:29.degrees. Still not bad for the time of year. Towards the
