:00:00. > :00:00.time former Assistant Chief Constable

:00:00. > :00:10.says it's possible there was a cover-up of child sex abuse in the

:00:11. > :00:14.1970s by the intelligence services Alan McQuillan was speaking

:00:15. > :00:20.as pressure grows for the former Kincora Boys? home in

:00:21. > :00:26.East Belfast to be included in a UK Our political correspondent

:00:27. > :00:41.Martina Purdy reports. In 1980, the systematic sexual abuse

:00:42. > :00:44.of young boys in this hair care home was revealed and three men,

:00:45. > :00:52.including this man, William McGrath, were jailed. He was the housemaster

:00:53. > :00:58.who had also founded a far right loyalist organisations some years

:00:59. > :01:01.earlier. What made the revelations even more shocking were claims that

:01:02. > :01:06.the RUC has been told of the use several years earlier and has failed

:01:07. > :01:10.to act. Looking back, this former senior policeman thinks it is

:01:11. > :01:14.possible that the abuse of children was covered up in exchange for

:01:15. > :01:18.intelligence information. You have to remember the time that

:01:19. > :01:23.this was going on in Belfast. Effectively, law and order had

:01:24. > :01:26.broken down. There was undeclared martial law. The police had

:01:27. > :01:32.collapsed as an organisation and were trying to get back on their

:01:33. > :01:35.feet. The army were in the lead of security operations. There were lots

:01:36. > :01:42.of strange security operations around Belfast at that time. In that

:01:43. > :01:46.atmosphere, with the security forces and the government trying to get

:01:47. > :01:51.control of a massive amount of murder and mayhem, quite frankly,

:01:52. > :01:54.anything was possible. There are growing demands for the

:01:55. > :02:00.Home Office to include Kincora in a national enquiry into child sex

:02:01. > :02:01.Home Office to include Kincora in a The allegations there

:02:02. > :02:07.serious about prominent little figures, not just in Northern

:02:08. > :02:10.Ireland but also in Great Britain, who were

:02:11. > :02:16.Ireland but also in Great Britain, have written to the Secretary of

:02:17. > :02:19.State and tabled questions to the Home Secretary and I'm awaiting a

:02:20. > :02:23.response. Remit every MP at Westminster needs

:02:24. > :02:27.to put pressure on the government to ensure that Northern Ireland is and

:02:28. > :02:32.to put pressure on the government to Kincora in particular is included

:02:33. > :02:33.within that enquiry. This former boys home is already part of a

:02:34. > :02:38.historic enquiry into abuse boys home is already part of a

:02:39. > :02:39.appointed by the Deputy First Minister's office.

:02:40. > :02:42.That enquiry is not considered sufficient to answer the questions

:02:43. > :02:45.about politicians -- that sufficient to answer the questions

:02:46. > :02:47.politicians and journalists have posed for decades

:02:48. > :02:51.A former scout leader, GAA referee and part-time

:02:52. > :02:54.firefighter has been jailed for eleven years for abusing children.

:02:55. > :03:03.Patrick McQuillan from Moyle Avenue in Ballycastle was found guilty

:03:04. > :03:09.The 62 year old carried out the abuse while serving

:03:10. > :03:16.He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

:03:17. > :03:19.Fourteen suspected paedophiles have been arrested here as part of a

:03:20. > :03:24.UK-wide operation targeting people accessing child abuse images online.

:03:25. > :03:29.The PSNI say two children were identified as being at risk.

:03:30. > :03:35.More than 650 suspects were arrested across the UK.

:03:36. > :03:38.The family of a young UDR soldier murdered

:03:39. > :03:41.near Castlederg 30 years ago say they've been left heartbroken after

:03:42. > :03:45.tributes marking the anniversary of her death were destroyed.

:03:46. > :03:49.20 year old Heather Kerrigan was killed alongside colleague

:03:50. > :03:52.and friend Norman McKinley when the IRA attacked their foot patrol.

:03:53. > :04:13.A broken poppy, the only visible families of the two soldiers killed

:04:14. > :04:16.in 1984. The tributes were vandalised after a service on Monday

:04:17. > :04:20.night marking the anniversary of their deaths will stop the family of

:04:21. > :04:23.Heather Kerrigan said their grief has been compounded by IRA graffiti

:04:24. > :04:33.Dort close to the scene of her murder. The PSNI had already taken

:04:34. > :04:40.the sign away which said IRA to, UDA none. This cross is all that is

:04:41. > :04:45.left. This is the spot where Heather Kerrigan and Norman McKinley were

:04:46. > :04:48.killed 30 years ago. There were 80 UDR soldiers on patrol that morning,

:04:49. > :04:54.including Heather's brother who was also injured. It's just as if it

:04:55. > :04:59.happened yesterday. It brings the whole thing back. I am very sad and

:05:00. > :05:04.depressed as to what is going on. We were starting to move on but when

:05:05. > :05:09.we see this here, it's going to plunge us back years.

:05:10. > :05:13.While the tributes are now gone, the family have a much loved daughter --

:05:14. > :05:15.the family of a much loved daughter and sister say her memory will

:05:16. > :05:19.always remain. Plans for

:05:20. > :05:21.a republican hunger strike parade in County Fermanagh have been described

:05:22. > :05:23.as highly insensitive by unionists. The parade in Derrylin,

:05:24. > :05:25.scheduled for the 3rd of August, commemorates the 1981 hunger strikes

:05:26. > :05:28.in which 10 republicans died. Unionists say families whose

:05:29. > :05:31.relatives were murdered by the IRA Sinn Fein say unionist sensitivities

:05:32. > :05:48.were considered in deciding where People need to understand the very

:05:49. > :05:51.high esteem in which the hunger strikers Bobby Sands Martin Hurston

:05:52. > :05:54.and the others are held in by our community. They need to respect

:05:55. > :05:58.that. We have had lectures from unionism, we are having lectures

:05:59. > :06:03.from unionism today about tolerance and respect. Well, there needs to be

:06:04. > :06:08.tolerance and respect given to Republicans as well. These people

:06:09. > :06:16.were terrorists and murderers. They were not law-abiding citizens. The

:06:17. > :06:19.way that those people -- I think that's the reality of it. These

:06:20. > :06:20.people are being glorified irrespective of what they did. They

:06:21. > :06:23.were murderers. Now tomorrow sees the start

:06:24. > :06:25.of the Open at Royal Liverpool. Northern Ireland?s three major

:06:26. > :06:27.champions Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell, and Darren Clarke

:06:28. > :06:29.will tee off in the morning. Stephen Watson is there for

:06:30. > :06:39.BBC Newsline. Playing in the world's biggest golf

:06:40. > :06:48.tournament is a serious business. Well, most of the time. Missed!

:06:49. > :06:51.Darren Clarke and three Michael Roy were relaxed during their early

:06:52. > :06:54.morning practice. There was a competitive match taking place

:06:55. > :06:58.between two of Northern Ireland's major champions, with Michael Roy

:06:59. > :07:10.taking the bragging rights on the last hole. Only ?20. It's not the

:07:11. > :07:14.cash, the amount is irrelevant. It's got to do with a youngster with all

:07:15. > :07:21.that money in the bank, getting 20 quid of my hard earned cash. Beating

:07:22. > :07:30.and open champion. He's too young to gloat. It was good. We did this in

:07:31. > :07:44.2011. We did. That worked out well for one of us. It's him this time.

:07:45. > :07:49.Whenever I was first out on tour, I was testing myself and try to better

:07:50. > :07:56.myself. We had a good game, a good bit of fun. Who is the smart money

:07:57. > :08:00.on for The Open? Perhaps, don't bet against another winner from Northern

:08:01. > :08:01.Ireland. All three of our major champions are upbeat about their

:08:02. > :08:06.chances of another major moments. Staff at Belfast Zoo have announced

:08:07. > :08:08.more details about a new arrival The baby was born four months ago

:08:09. > :08:13.but the mother was so protective of it keepers have only just found

:08:16. > :08:18.lady in Swahili - is the second Now with the weather forecast

:08:19. > :08:32.here's Cecilia Daly. Good evening. The forecast is set to

:08:33. > :08:37.get warm and humid over the next couple of days. Tonight, by

:08:38. > :08:43.comparison, will be fairly fresh. Lots of dry weather around, maybe

:08:44. > :08:47.one or two showers lingering. There will be some sunshine to start with

:08:48. > :08:52.tomorrow. A lot of fine and warm weather around through Thursday. A

:08:53. > :08:58.pretty good day for heading to the beach. The maybe one or two showers

:08:59. > :09:01.early in the morning but they will be extremely isolated. Otherwise,

:09:02. > :09:05.increasing amounts of sunshine developing as the day goes on. A

:09:06. > :09:08.ridge of high pressure over us tomorrow, so both Britain and the

:09:14. > :09:16.Average is reaching the high 20s across London and the south-east.

:09:17. > :09:19.Very high temperatures for part of the Republic of Ireland.

:09:20. > :09:24.Increasingly warm and muddy as the day goes on. Some cool, fresh

:09:25. > :09:29.weather left over at the north-east of Scotland. Later in the day, mist

:09:30. > :09:35.and low cloud may develop across the Irish Sea. Some of that may drift

:09:36. > :09:39.onto parts of the County Down coast. Otherwise, the highest temperatures
