:00:00. > :00:00.That's it. It all starts on Wednesday evening. We're looking

:00:00. > :00:10.Northern Ireland's latest Open champion, Rory McIlroy,

:00:11. > :00:17.He yesterday became the first European ever to win three

:00:18. > :00:21.of the sport's four Major championships and he arrived back at

:00:22. > :00:24.Belfast city airport with the famous Claret Jug earlier this evening.

:00:25. > :00:27.BBC Newsline's Stephen Watson was at Royal Liverpool to see him

:00:28. > :00:35.clinch the championship and then bring the trophy home.

:00:36. > :00:45.It's nice to get home and enjoy this with everyone else, friends and

:00:46. > :00:56.family. One very important person had never seen Rory McIlroy win a

:00:57. > :01:11.major first-hand. There he is! His mum. It was an unforgettable moment

:01:12. > :01:22.for the entire family. Earlier, he had secured a famous open victory.

:01:23. > :01:25.The champion. It means an awful lot to me, Stephen. From this point last

:01:26. > :01:33.year, missing the cut, to coming back here and winning and being able

:01:34. > :01:37.to hold this. It is just an incredible feeling and I felt like

:01:38. > :01:42.my game was just taking off. I felt like I was really getting back to

:01:43. > :01:46.where I wanted to be. It could not have happened at a better time. It

:01:47. > :01:49.was the first major at a better time. It was the first major that my

:01:50. > :01:53.mum was at that I won through to see her on the back of the 18th hole,

:01:54. > :02:01.she was crying her eyes out and I was trying to hold back the tears!

:02:02. > :02:04.It was great to have my parents here. Watching Rory McIlroy put his

:02:05. > :02:10.name in the record books was the man who has coached him since he was a

:02:11. > :02:15.young boy. It was the one that everybody wants to win, the open,

:02:16. > :02:23.and he has finally done it. It is great to see him win. It is just

:02:24. > :02:29.great that we are all here, the whole team is here to see him win

:02:30. > :02:34.the open. His third major success was hailed by a fellow major winner

:02:35. > :02:40.from back home. To win a third leg of the Grand Slam at age 25 is very

:02:41. > :02:47.special. He certainly has silenced the doubters and answered a lot of

:02:48. > :02:53.questions this began. Rory McIlroy gets his hand on a third major

:02:54. > :02:55.championship trophy. He follows her dearly and Darren Clarke as the

:02:56. > :02:59.third golfer from Northern Ireland to win the open.

:03:00. > :03:02.People in the golf club where Rory McIlroy learned to play have

:03:03. > :03:04.been giving their reaction to his achievement.

:03:05. > :03:07.There was huge expectation at Hollywood golf club that the local

:03:08. > :03:11.golfer would come through at the Open and jubilation when he did.

:03:12. > :03:19.Some members had bets on him to take the championship.

:03:20. > :03:27.He is just a normal lad of 25 and we are very, very proud of him. We knew

:03:28. > :03:32.he would do it. From two or three years of age, hitting a plastic bowl

:03:33. > :03:34.with a plastic club into the restaurant! We knew he was a special

:03:35. > :03:37.talent. Several hundred people have taken

:03:38. > :03:39.part in an anti-fracking protest It happened at a site near Belcoo

:03:40. > :03:45.where a shale gas exploration company has announced plans to drill

:03:46. > :04:03.a borehole to collect rock samples. Protesters gathered at the gates to

:04:04. > :04:09.the quarry where rock samples will be taken to stop the company wants

:04:10. > :04:12.to drill a 750 metres borehole to find out how much gas is below the

:04:13. > :04:17.ground and if it is put financially viable to extract. We are talking

:04:18. > :04:22.billions of pounds of investment into the country which will be

:04:23. > :04:27.thousands of jobs are associated with it. We are talking about energy

:04:28. > :04:31.security for some decades into the future. Those are the potential

:04:32. > :04:36.rewards and we think people need to have it put in front of them whether

:04:37. > :04:40.that is in fact the case. If gas is found, the company hopes to be able

:04:41. > :04:43.to allowed to begin tracking at another site in two years but many

:04:44. > :04:50.in the local community are concerned. There is a lot of anger

:04:51. > :04:53.and the people wanted to show their strength of opposition that exists

:04:54. > :04:58.here. There has been no consultation with the local community. There is a

:04:59. > :05:03.lot of genuine and well founded concerns about this industry and how

:05:04. > :05:07.it may develop. Some protesters briefly pushed over the security

:05:08. > :05:09.fence. Campaign organisers said they want the demonstration against the

:05:10. > :05:12.plans to extract shale gas to be peaceful.

:05:13. > :05:15.Campaigners for an inquiry into historical abuse say they have

:05:16. > :05:19.received assurances from the First Minister that funding will be

:05:20. > :05:24.Last week Peter Robinson said money for the inquiry may be pulled

:05:25. > :05:28.if the executive cannot reach agreement on the latest financial

:05:29. > :05:40.Many victims have told their stories to the historical institutional

:05:41. > :05:45.abuse enquiry but on Friday the enquiry itself became the story. The

:05:46. > :05:48.First Minister said its funding was at risk because of what he called

:05:49. > :05:53.foot dragging by Sinn Fein over the June monitoring round. That is when

:05:54. > :06:09.money and spent by the executive departments is reallocated. We have

:06:10. > :06:17.been reassured that the funding is going to go through but it is just

:06:18. > :06:20.about keeping work now. -- paperwork now. The two parties have got

:06:21. > :06:25.together and I believe they will be looking after us. The enquiry is

:06:26. > :06:28.funded by money from this monthly monitoring round and the John

:06:29. > :06:33.Cooper. Allocate funding to it but that paper is not yet been

:06:34. > :06:38.approved, and Peter Robinson's warning that the funding could be

:06:39. > :06:44.under threat. I just wish they would sit down and talk to each other and

:06:45. > :06:50.do not mess as around, we have had enough messing around. The DUP says

:06:51. > :06:54.the boat is in Sinn Fein's course. I hope they can switch in vain to sign

:06:55. > :06:58.off on the monitoring round because that is how the money will be

:06:59. > :07:03.released for the enquiry. If that is not done, the money cannot be

:07:04. > :07:07.released. Peter Robinson has given the warning of what the consequences

:07:08. > :07:11.of the non-release of that money will be. The victims say they are

:07:12. > :07:15.assured they will get more support from the executive.

:07:16. > :07:17.A window at the synagogue in north Belfast has been broken

:07:18. > :07:23.The window was first broken on Friday night and then after being

:07:24. > :07:28.Police are treating the attack on Somerton Road

:07:29. > :07:37.The vandalism has been widely condemned.

:07:38. > :07:42.Across the community, it is very sad that it has happened. I would

:07:43. > :07:46.imagine there is a certain amount of anger that it could happen but anger

:07:47. > :07:52.in the sense of frustration and anger that they want to do something

:07:53. > :07:54.about it. It is very sad and disturbing that Belfast would show

:07:55. > :07:57.its face like this. One of the main arterial routes

:07:58. > :08:00.into Belfast city centre has been closed after a large hole was found

:08:01. > :08:03.below a traffic lane. The Ravenhill Road was shut

:08:04. > :08:05.on Monday night after contractors carrying out work

:08:06. > :08:09.for NI Water discovered what they have described as a large void

:08:10. > :08:13.measuring 15 foot square. NI Water said they had yet to

:08:14. > :08:17.establish the extent of the work to repair the hole and don't know how

:08:18. > :08:32.long the road will be closed for. It has been a warm day today and it

:08:33. > :08:39.will stay warmer for the remainder of the week. Quite humid as well.

:08:40. > :08:44.Tonight temperatures will not fall as low at all. Temperatures no lower

:08:45. > :08:52.than 15 or 16 degrees. Most places dry and there may even be some mist

:08:53. > :08:56.and fog patches. Likely to start great tomorrow. It will brighten up

:08:57. > :09:02.during the morning with a bit of sun here and there, especially towards

:09:03. > :09:06.the North and eastern areas. In the west, we are expecting thicker

:09:07. > :09:13.cloud. That will mean some rain at times during the day. Some sharp

:09:14. > :09:23.bursts could develop through the afternoon. Temperatures though in

:09:24. > :09:28.most places in the loo to mid-20s. They will possibly some estimates in

:09:29. > :09:32.the South coast of Ireland and across some of these North Sea

:09:33. > :09:38.coasts as well. Tomorrow afternoon, most places in Northern Ireland

:09:39. > :09:41.would be fairly dry. There will be the chance of some showery rain in

:09:42. > :09:47.the West which could be shot before it edges away. Temperatures could

:09:48. > :09:52.get up to 23 20 for degrees. On Wednesday, another Monday. Mr times

:09:53. > :09:56.along the east coast but hopefully more in the way of sunshine. Plenty
