:00:00. > :00:00.That's all from the team here in Glasgow.

:00:00. > :00:00.That's all from us. You can watch all of the action

:00:07. > :00:11.A man who was shot in both legs in Londonderry was "shot by

:00:12. > :00:17.The attack was carried out in a playpark in the mainly loyalist

:00:18. > :00:23.The police have described it as horrific and barbaric

:00:24. > :00:34.Here's our North-West reporter, Keiron Tourish.

:00:35. > :00:40.The horror of the playpark shooting. Specialist cleaning equipment from

:00:41. > :00:45.the deer we had to be brought in to remove blood from this mistake in

:00:46. > :00:50.Waterside. Most of the footage graphic to be broadcast. -- is too

:00:51. > :00:53.graphic to be broadcast. A local man who was 32 years

:00:54. > :00:56.of age was shot in both legs just a few feet

:00:57. > :01:09.from this playground around 11:30pm And it is understood he was made his

:01:10. > :01:12.way to his home and was taken to hospital.

:01:13. > :01:16.The DUP say there is speculation that the victim may have been told

:01:17. > :01:18.in advance to turn up to be shot in this punishment-style attack.

:01:19. > :01:21.The party says there can be no justification for it.

:01:22. > :01:23.I think it's disgusting this happened here in a playpark.

:01:24. > :01:27.This area has been relatively quiet over the last year, as has a lot

:01:28. > :01:30.of loyalist areas, and I am really surprised and shocked that this has

:01:31. > :01:32.happened, but to happen in a playpark, where you have children

:01:33. > :01:35.The police say they have interviewed about them in hospital, where he has

:01:36. > :01:36.undergone emergency surgery. The police say they have interviewed

:01:37. > :01:38.about them in hospital, Detectives are keeping an open mind as to the

:01:39. > :01:40.cause of the attack. It's a horrific attack,

:01:41. > :01:42.a beautiful warm evening in Lincoln Courts last night,

:01:43. > :01:45.this man was shot in each leg. Thankfully he is in hospital getting

:01:46. > :01:49.medical treatment, but it was Police have issued an appeal

:01:50. > :01:54.for information. They want to hear

:01:55. > :01:56.from anyone who noticed any suspicious activity or witnessed

:01:57. > :02:01.the shooting to get in touch. DUP Minister Nelson McCausland has

:02:02. > :02:03.rejected a report which found he deliberately misled

:02:04. > :02:06.a Stormont committee. The report by the Social Development

:02:07. > :02:09.committee concluded the Minister had misled members over

:02:10. > :02:13.meetings he had attended. Its investigation followed a

:02:14. > :02:16.BBC Spotlight programme that examined allegations surrounding

:02:17. > :02:19.public housing contracts. Here's our political

:02:20. > :02:32.correspondent Gareth Gordon. The inquiry was launched after this

:02:33. > :02:36.BBC Spotlight programme alleged political interference in the

:02:37. > :02:42.running of the Housing Executive. It considered a meeting Nelson

:02:43. > :02:47.McCausland held in April 2012 to discuss double glazing contracts. He

:02:48. > :02:51.claimed it was with a trade body called the Glass and Glazing

:02:52. > :02:56.Federation, but it was with a company called Turkington Holdings,

:02:57. > :03:01.which has in the past backs the DUP. In the light of evidence to date,

:03:02. > :03:05.and the discovery exercise in my department, I acknowledged I

:03:06. > :03:10.inadvertently misinform the committee in this letter. Let me

:03:11. > :03:18.assure you this was not in any way deliberate. This staff from

:03:19. > :03:22.Turkington Holdings were at the staff -- were at the meeting but I

:03:23. > :03:29.believed they were putting forward the interests of the Federation. But

:03:30. > :03:31.the committee found that attempts the Minister made to remove

:03:32. > :03:36.references to Turkington Holdings from the record were not

:03:37. > :03:41.unintentional. This is the only place on these islands where a

:03:42. > :03:47.minister can face these charges and remain in place. It is a serious

:03:48. > :03:51.conclusion the committee has reached and there are questions that need to

:03:52. > :03:56.be addressed by those remain -- by those named in this report. This DUP

:03:57. > :04:03.committee member claims the inquiry is a witchhunt. I do not believe he

:04:04. > :04:08.has done anything wrong other than hold meetings with a company which

:04:09. > :04:11.is the result of those meetings, he saved millions of pounds for the

:04:12. > :04:17.public purse, which means there is more money for other things like

:04:18. > :04:22.housing, that is not a minister neglecting his duty but a minister

:04:23. > :04:25.doing his duty. This month Mr McCausland wrote the committee

:04:26. > :04:29.claiming the report was flawed and weak in its analysis and statement

:04:30. > :04:34.of the facts, and which therefore it should not be published in its

:04:35. > :04:40.current form. Nelson McCausland was not giving any interview today. This

:04:41. > :04:45.inquiry is far from over. It begins again in September and will also be

:04:46. > :04:48.debated in the Assembly. The committee intends to double the

:04:49. > :04:51.number of evidence sessions in the autumn from one to two a week.

:04:52. > :04:54.The Finance Minister has circulated a paper which proposes millions of

:04:55. > :04:57.pounds in cuts across departments, except health and education.

:04:58. > :05:01.The BBC understands the paper follows intense discussions

:05:02. > :05:04.between the First and Deputy First Minister about how to deal with

:05:05. > :05:09.quarterly spending plans, and tens of millions in financial pressures.

:05:10. > :05:12.Sinn Fein says no deal has yet been agreed.

:05:13. > :05:17.The party also said it had not changed its position that Treasury

:05:18. > :05:21.fines over welfare reform are separate

:05:22. > :05:32.Our political correspondent Martina Purdy has the details.

:05:33. > :05:37.This is a budget paper and it takes unspent funds from the last quarter

:05:38. > :05:41.and their racks them to areas where it is needed, so the will be some

:05:42. > :05:46.good news for departments like the Department of Health, but the

:05:47. > :05:49.downside is that there are huge spending commitments that they do

:05:50. > :05:54.not have the money for, tens of millions of pounds, and the Finance

:05:55. > :06:00.Minister has a headache around welfare reform penalties. They are

:06:01. > :06:03.about ?87 million. Sinn Fein say they have not agreed to welfare cuts

:06:04. > :06:08.and have not agreed these penalties should be part of this round. Other

:06:09. > :06:13.parties say it is acknowledged that the welfare issue will have to be

:06:14. > :06:17.dealt with in the next round, so there is still hope this paper will

:06:18. > :06:19.go forward to an executive meeting early next week.

:06:20. > :06:21.It's been another day of sunshine across Northern Ireland.

:06:22. > :06:23.With temperatures hitting 27 degrees, it was the warmest day

:06:24. > :06:28.BBC Newsline's Mark Simpson has been to the north coast to see how people

:06:29. > :06:43.It's not Spain, it's not Portugal. It's not Brazil, its Northern

:06:44. > :06:48.Ireland. The visitors who came here expecting rain rather than sunshine

:06:49. > :06:54.couldn't quite believe it. It's lovely, really nice. Is it like this

:06:55. > :07:00.all the time here? This is the first time I have been here in ten years

:07:01. > :07:08.were it has been sunny. The weather is not normally like this, in

:07:09. > :07:15.Cyprus. It is cooler here. This is Port Stewart. There are more people

:07:16. > :07:20.around, they come out earlier in the morning and stay out later and it

:07:21. > :07:25.helps ice cream sales a lot, especially takeaway ice creams, so

:07:26. > :07:31.it is good for everyone. I love it but it is a bit too hot when you're

:07:32. > :07:36.working but I am going on holiday on Saturday so I can sunbathe them. It

:07:37. > :07:38.was so hot, no wonder so many people came to Portrush to try to cool

:07:39. > :07:45.down. The water is pretty warm! It came to Portrush to try to cool

:07:46. > :07:50.is not often you can say that about the north coast. When the weather is

:07:51. > :07:57.so good, it is only right you make a song and dance about it, and here I

:07:58. > :08:02.group from Britain's Got Talent performed. It was a spectacular day

:08:03. > :08:06.all over Northern Ireland. Tomorrow could be even hotter. Let's hope

:08:07. > :08:09.that is the case. The Northern Ireland Executive is

:08:10. > :08:12.coming under pressure to make up a shortfall

:08:13. > :08:14.in funding to turn Armagh's historic The jail's conversion

:08:15. > :08:17.will cost ?25 million. But its owner, Armagh Council, is

:08:18. > :08:20.fearful the project could be lost. The private development partner may

:08:21. > :08:23.withdraw his ?11 million because Stormont departments will

:08:24. > :08:37.not pledge more financial help. The reality is, there have been

:08:38. > :08:42.question marks over the business case in the last year and if the

:08:43. > :08:47.business case stacks up, I do not see white e-book cannot support

:08:48. > :08:53.that, but until we see a buyable business case, because questions

:08:54. > :08:55.have been asked by each department, so let see that and we will take it

:08:56. > :08:57.from there. And the excitement has been at fever

:08:58. > :09:00.pitch in Glasgow for the opening The world champion cyclist

:09:01. > :09:03.Martyn Irvine was the flag bearer With a total of 116 athletes

:09:04. > :09:15.from here competing in 14 different sports,

:09:16. > :09:15.it's the biggest team from here ever The action all begins tomorrow,

:09:16. > :09:15.and Northern Ireland has a lot of competitors to look out for

:09:16. > :09:19.on day one. Could we get among the medals

:09:20. > :09:22.and get off to a winning start in Glasgow?

:09:23. > :09:38.Nial Foster looks ahead now. Done. Ray. Me. This team hope to

:09:39. > :09:43.scale the heights tomorrow as they start Northern Ireland's quest for

:09:44. > :09:48.silverware in Glasgow at the lawn bowls centre just hours after the

:09:49. > :09:53.opening ceremony initials. In the Strathclyde country Park,

:09:54. > :09:57.Londonderry to athlete Aileen Reid will find out if the long hours in

:09:58. > :10:06.the C and road will pave the way for a medal. I know I can perform well

:10:07. > :10:12.when I am at my best, so it is just about pressure from outside to do

:10:13. > :10:17.well, I just do the best I can do. Sticking with the water, the charge

:10:18. > :10:21.for glory is in the pool as the swimming gets under way and for the

:10:22. > :10:31.first time Northern Ireland will be presented in netball. The ladies

:10:32. > :10:37.face Malawi. Now, let's find out what the weather has in store for

:10:38. > :10:40.us. It has been a scorcher of a day, the hottest day of the year so far,

:10:41. > :10:45.and this will continue until the other week. It will freshen up over

:10:46. > :10:50.the weekend and that will mean cooler nights. Tonight the heat is

:10:51. > :10:54.not going anywhere, warm and muggy, dry for much of the night but a

:10:55. > :10:58.little cloud bringing spots of rain towards the end of the night. There

:10:59. > :11:02.may be Mr Unionists along parts of the east coast tomorrow but we are

:11:03. > :11:08.expecting a good deal of hot and sunny weather. To begin with, one or

:11:09. > :11:12.two genres in the west, otherwise increasing sunshine from the east of

:11:13. > :11:16.the day goes on. Any mistiness across the Irish Sea Kosher does

:11:17. > :11:20.appear that it will stay misty and foggy in parts of north-east

:11:21. > :11:26.Scotland. There will also be showers in parts of Mayo, Sligo, Donegal,

:11:27. > :11:29.and a few over south-west England but most places will have fine

:11:30. > :11:35.weather, temperatures in the mid to high 20s. Temperatures in Northern

:11:36. > :11:41.Ireland easily reached 24 degrees, hats in the north-west, and that may

:11:42. > :11:45.spark off one or two thundery showers towards the end of the day.

:11:46. > :11:50.For Friday, not much change, cooler towards the east coast, but

:11:51. > :11:55.otherwise lots of sunshine, very warm and the risk of one or two

:11:56. > :12:01.showers late in the day. On Saturday, a change of wind direction

:12:02. > :12:02.so it will turn fresher. There will be showers around but still
