:00:00. > :00:00.of a radical plan to shake up the student loan system,

:00:00. > :00:10.A man in his sixties has drowned tonight in county Armagh.

:00:11. > :00:12.It's understood the victim was swimming towards

:00:13. > :00:16.a small island on a lake in Bessbrook to remove two flags.

:00:17. > :00:19.Our reporter Claire Savage is at the scene for us this evening.

:00:20. > :00:34.The man got into difficulties swimming in the wake behind me

:00:35. > :00:38.around 5pm. Locals tell me that a teenage boy went into the water to

:00:39. > :00:41.try and rescue him. He managed to bring him back to the banks on the

:00:42. > :00:47.lake where people try to resuscitate him. The fabulous crew then arrived

:00:48. > :00:54.and took him to detail hospital where it was announced he had later

:00:55. > :00:59.died. The man has been named locally as Oswald badly from the village, he

:01:00. > :01:04.used to run a chip shop in the village and he is said to be a well

:01:05. > :01:09.known local character. It is understood he had been trying to

:01:10. > :01:12.swim to an island in the lake were recently to Irish tricolours had

:01:13. > :01:17.been placed. Last week there were calls made for the flights to be

:01:18. > :01:21.taken down, including by Sinn Fein who said that the flags would be

:01:22. > :01:28.intimidating to Protestants. Earlier I spoke to two local MLAs who knew

:01:29. > :01:33.the victim personally. The was popular, outgoing, well-known. He

:01:34. > :01:38.was very likeable and a great character within the village. He was

:01:39. > :01:45.involved actively in the life of the village and he will be missed but

:01:46. > :01:52.the tragedy that surrounds his death will also leave its mark. Fairly

:01:53. > :01:59.sad, that this tragedy has occurred, the deceased person was very

:02:00. > :02:05.well-known in the area. -- very sad. At this point in time I would like

:02:06. > :02:14.to express my deep condolences to his family and friends. In a

:02:15. > :02:18.statement, Danny Kennedy added this evening that this was a very tragic

:02:19. > :02:23.outcome to the controversies surrounding flags in the village. He

:02:24. > :02:27.said this was too high a price for any family and community to pay.

:02:28. > :02:31.While the breeze were still in attendance at the scene this

:02:32. > :02:33.evening, the two flags were taken down off the island.

:02:34. > :02:36.An inquest has been told that a drug which caused the death

:02:37. > :02:40.of a 21 year old Banbridge man and 19 other people here is principally

:02:41. > :02:43.The 20 deaths have been linked to pills known as Green Rolex

:02:44. > :02:47.They are thought to have originated in the Netherlands but have only

:02:48. > :02:56.The coroner said it is a matter of grave concern.

:02:57. > :02:59.A senior DUP politician has strongly condemned the arson attack on

:03:00. > :03:01.Sinn Fein's main constituency office in Londonderry.

:03:02. > :03:04.Gregory Campbell said it was an attack on democracy and he linked

:03:05. > :03:08.Other political parties said there can be no justification

:03:09. > :03:12.Sinn Fein said the repair bill would run

:03:13. > :03:24.into thousands of pound but it would not be deflected from its work.

:03:25. > :03:31.It has happened to other parties, it has happened to our party, the

:03:32. > :03:36.Alliance party and now to Sinn Fein. It could if it is not eliminated, if

:03:37. > :03:40.people do not give the information to the breeze to secure convictions

:03:41. > :03:41.against those responsible, it could end up in a worrying cycle of

:03:42. > :03:43.violence. Engineers are still working to

:03:44. > :03:44.repair one The Ravenhill Road was shut to

:03:45. > :03:48.traffic last week after large holes or voids were

:03:49. > :03:50.discovered beneath the surface. It's still not clear how

:03:51. > :03:53.long it will take to fix. Louise Cullen has been watching

:03:54. > :04:08.the repair operation. On the surface, drivers deal with

:04:09. > :04:13.the destruction of a closed road. Underneath, this. Engineers captured

:04:14. > :04:17.these images after 1000 cubic feet of gaps were discovered during sewer

:04:18. > :04:23.replacement works. Voids have formed. Gaps of varying sizes

:04:24. > :04:27.beneath the wheels of our cards. Each and everyone to be filled in,

:04:28. > :04:35.hence the indefinite partial road closure. The actual rodeo riding on

:04:36. > :04:39.is a reinforced concrete slab so even if a void or a hall opens

:04:40. > :04:44.underneath it the slab is holding the integrity together. We have a

:04:45. > :04:49.competent contractor and designer here who have come up with a

:04:50. > :04:53.solution to repair this. The solution is pumping form concrete

:04:54. > :05:00.into the holes. These are not uncommon in Belfast. I would

:05:01. > :05:04.describe Belfast geology as late a bowl of porridge. It is soft

:05:05. > :05:09.underneath but has a nice crust that you can put your spin on top. If you

:05:10. > :05:18.break that crossed will sink into the porridge. It is here. We have

:05:19. > :05:22.soft sands and when you break the crust the material underneath is

:05:23. > :05:26.soft. The Victorian paperwork under our feet is nearing the end of its

:05:27. > :05:31.life. The sewer replacement project is in everyone's interests but

:05:32. > :05:32.commuters will hope that all of this is filled in before the schools go

:05:33. > :05:37.back in one months time. Time now to head to Glasgow

:05:38. > :05:39.and to the Commonwealth Games, where Stephen Watson can update us

:05:40. > :05:42.on how Team Northern Ireland has Northern Ireland won another medal

:05:43. > :05:49.today, a silver in Lawn Bowls which I'll tell you about in a moment, but

:05:50. > :05:54.first to our impressive boxing team. 9 fighters are now just one fight

:05:55. > :06:00.away from securing Tonight saw the first appearance of

:06:01. > :06:08.Team NI's double Olympic medallist. Nial Foster was ringside

:06:09. > :06:27.in the SECC. This is the moment the fans have

:06:28. > :06:31.been waiting for. The charismatic captain of the Northern Ireland

:06:32. > :06:35.boxing team Paddy Burns take his way towards the ring to start his

:06:36. > :06:41.defence of the Commonwealth title. After four days of waiting he has

:06:42. > :06:46.more than he is himself into Commonwealth action. The light

:06:47. > :06:54.flyweight is known for his frantic pace and the Belfast man landed

:06:55. > :06:59.combination. Look at the workrate. After C standing counts the referee

:07:00. > :07:06.awarded the win to Barnes on a technical knockout in the third

:07:07. > :07:15.round. It was my fourth fight this year and I have been waiting for a

:07:16. > :07:21.long time. I had to fight in the Commonwealth and that is my first

:07:22. > :07:25.one. It earlier today, fellow Olympic medallist Michael Conlon

:07:26. > :07:30.also made the last eight after a unanimous points victory. Getting

:07:31. > :07:35.over the landmark today, I was beaten in the wind -- in the last

:07:36. > :07:43.game, so it was good to get over that. Now I can focus on winning. A

:07:44. > :07:47.beautiful 12 commendation. Stephen Jolly joins the quarterfinal party

:07:48. > :07:48.after a powerful performance as a Northern Irish boxing team continued

:07:49. > :07:55.their dominance in the ring. Michaela Walsh will become NI's

:07:56. > :07:58.first ever female fighter to box Ruairi Dalton is the first

:07:59. > :08:06.in action tomorrow. Northern Ireland has won two medals

:08:07. > :08:09.at the games so far thanks to Lisa Bradley in Judo

:08:10. > :08:27.and the silver won today For Neil Bush, this was another

:08:28. > :08:31.memorable games moment. His fourth medal in five appearances. But it

:08:32. > :08:38.was a first medal for his team-mates. The silver medallists

:08:39. > :08:45.for Northern Ireland. We did not expect this, but I am delighted with

:08:46. > :08:50.it. You can only do it with the players you play with. There will be

:08:51. > :08:56.a new crop of players coming along after myself. It will give them the

:08:57. > :09:04.chance to get more medals along with the experience of these guys. On the

:09:05. > :09:08.track, Amy Foster ran alongside two of the world 's fastest woman but

:09:09. > :09:16.missed out on a place in the final of the 100 metres. One athlete did

:09:17. > :09:25.make the final, hammer or Dempsey McGuigan. Our netball team set a

:09:26. > :09:27.pre-game target of a top eight finish and after a win today against

:09:28. > :09:34.English at the can still achieve that. But Northern Ireland must beat

:09:35. > :09:37.the hosts, Scotland, on Wednesday. In shooting, David Beattie is still

:09:38. > :09:45.on the hunt for a medal in the men's trap. And Northern Ireland 's

:09:46. > :09:48.gymnasts were in action today, the tent at the halfway stage with Sarah

:09:49. > :09:54.Beck on course for a place in the individual final.

:09:55. > :09:57.Finally tonight away from the Games The Milk Cup Football

:09:58. > :10:00.In the Elite section Northern Ireland have beaten China

:10:01. > :10:01.in their opening game at the Ballymena showgrounds.

:10:02. > :10:06.Two goals came in the first half from set-piece.

:10:07. > :10:08.Josh Donnelly heading home from close range for one-nil.

:10:09. > :10:11.Before a neat turn and shot from Sean Mullan double the advantage.

:10:12. > :10:23.We'll be back live on tomorrows BBC Newsline.

:10:24. > :10:31.Now for the weather forecast here's Cecilia Daly.

:10:32. > :10:37.We have some rain on the forecast tonight, not a great day but just

:10:38. > :10:42.enough to dampen the ground. A sprinkling of light rain across our

:10:43. > :10:46.gardens. It means a mile and, temperatures now lower than the

:10:47. > :10:49.mid-teens. Tomorrow there will still be damp weather lingering in places

:10:50. > :10:52.but a good part of the day should be dry. We will not see too much

:10:53. > :10:57.sunshine but brightness should come through from time to time especially

:10:58. > :11:04.across the East. A lot of drizzly rain initially, leading to the West

:11:05. > :11:08.as the morning goes on. It is likely that the farther east you are the

:11:09. > :11:12.better chance you have of sunshine. In the south there will be

:11:13. > :11:16.brightness and sunshine and there will also be some brightness over

:11:17. > :11:24.south-east Scotland, north-east England, the Midlands, East Anglia

:11:25. > :11:28.and the South of England. There will be light rain or some light showers

:11:29. > :11:31.from the entertainer. The sample, identical fuel war model in Northern

:11:32. > :11:35.Ireland there will be more of a breeze converge to today, so maybe

:11:36. > :11:42.not feeling as close as it did today. Temperatures reaching 19 or

:11:43. > :11:47.20 degrees. On Wednesday we are expecting showers initially in the

:11:48. > :11:51.North, and there will still be a fairly noticeable breeze as well.

:11:52. > :11:55.Generally the latter part of the week will bring more unsettled

:11:56. > :11:57.conditions. Low pressure will be close by which will mean heavy

:11:58. > :12:02.showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder.

:12:03. > :12:04.That's all from others. Good night.
