:00:00. > :00:11.The First Minister has described the abuse at Kincora Boys' Home

:00:12. > :00:13.in east Belfast as "a national scandal".

:00:14. > :00:15.Peter Robinson made his remarks after a former army intelligence

:00:16. > :00:20.officer said he was ordered to stop investigating Kincora by MI5

:00:21. > :00:24.in the 1970s, five years before the police discovered that

:00:25. > :00:36.teenage boys were being sexually assaulted on a regular basis.

:00:37. > :00:45.It was set up as a place where teenage boys could be cared for. But

:00:46. > :00:54.inside the key home, many were abused. The scandal was made public

:00:55. > :00:59.in the 1970s, when the men were convicted of serious offences. But

:01:00. > :01:06.it is claimed that years before any enquiry, MI5 stop the investigation.

:01:07. > :01:11.In 1975, Brian was gathering information. He prepared the report

:01:12. > :01:24.for a leading security services officer. He told me not just to stop

:01:25. > :01:30.investigating into the boys home and into my past, but to stop the

:01:31. > :01:40.investigation totally. The First Minister has described this as a

:01:41. > :01:45.national scandal. There are matters when you put them together that

:01:46. > :01:52.there was knowledge of high positions in Northern Ireland at

:01:53. > :01:56.that time. I read some of the documentation in relation to it, and

:01:57. > :02:08.I feel there is a case that merits investigation. Victims revisited the

:02:09. > :02:14.house today. Client has always maintained that there was a

:02:15. > :02:22.cover-up. I went to the police station, but they did not want to

:02:23. > :02:28.hear me. They do not know if they did anything, but they were not

:02:29. > :02:32.hearing anything bad about them. The whole always be associated with is

:02:33. > :02:35.shame and scandal. The question now is how much more is to be green

:02:36. > :02:45.fields? -- revealed. The Housing Executive

:02:46. > :02:47.has defended spending ?11,000 on a memorial garden in south

:02:48. > :02:50.Belfast which featured in a UDA The Executive says the garden

:02:51. > :02:55.is to remember World War One and has no connection to

:02:56. > :03:10.paramilitaries, despite a UDA plaque A publicly funded memorial garden

:03:11. > :03:21.and a tribute to the Ulster defence Association. It cost ?11,000. Last

:03:22. > :03:29.night, it hosted an Ulster defence event, which started with the parade

:03:30. > :03:39.down the street. It was to commemorate the members who were

:03:40. > :03:45.shot by the IRA. They were said to be associated with attacks on

:03:46. > :03:51.Republicans, but nothing was ever proved. The Housing executive say

:03:52. > :04:01.the garden was to commemorate the World War I. Although there is

:04:02. > :04:06.nothing on the memorial to mention the First World War, there are

:04:07. > :04:18.poppies on the plaque. The Housing executive have said.

:04:19. > :04:26.The flags and placards being removed. It has once again brought

:04:27. > :04:29.into focus the whole issue of remembering the past, how it should

:04:30. > :04:41.be done and what is appropriate and what is an appropriate.

:04:42. > :04:43.A protest has been held outside the BBC's Broadcasting House in Belfast

:04:44. > :04:46.this evening, calling for an end to the Israeli bombing of Gaza.

:04:47. > :04:48.Hundreds of demonstrators, many waving placards and Palestinian

:04:49. > :04:51.flags, said they were angry at what they they called

:04:52. > :04:52.the BBC's "inadequate coverage" of the crisis.

:04:53. > :05:05.The BBC has reiterated that it stands by its reporting.

:05:06. > :05:11.Hundreds of local people and Fermanagh have galloped to discuss

:05:12. > :05:25.the controversial issue of cracking. affects the whole island. It is very

:05:26. > :05:28.important that people all over article note this.

:05:29. > :05:31.Now, let us join Stephen Watson, with the latest on the local

:05:32. > :05:35.Team Northern Ireland won six more medals today, all of them bronze.

:05:36. > :05:37.One came in the lawn bowls - more of that shortly -

:05:38. > :05:41.in the boxing. But four of our fighters have made

:05:42. > :05:44.it to Saturday's final session in the Hydro, glowing behind me there.

:05:45. > :05:48.Earlier today, Northern Ireland's lawn bowls team picked up a second

:05:49. > :05:51.medal of these games when the women's pairs beat Jersey by one

:05:52. > :06:01.point in a thriller that went to the last end.

:06:02. > :06:10.When the defending champion enters the arena, there is a special

:06:11. > :06:14.atmosphere. Today, Barnes totally outclassed as Ugandan opponent. He

:06:15. > :06:27.has set up a gold medal bout with an Indian boxer. I have beaten him in

:06:28. > :06:35.the Olympics. What would it mean to you to defend your championship? It

:06:36. > :06:45.would be fantastic. The youngest member of the team wants to join

:06:46. > :06:50.them. 19-year-old Joe Fitzpatrick enjoyed a unanimous victory. He

:06:51. > :07:03.nearly did not make it into the ring at all. I had an eye injury and the

:07:04. > :07:11.doctor said it was touch and go. Pet and do not be hacked, that is the

:07:12. > :07:17.key. It is a busy night ahead for the medical team. Earlier today,

:07:18. > :07:21.Michael was cut after an accidental clash of heads. He was awarded the

:07:22. > :07:31.win because he was ahead at the time. I can take anything. I am

:07:32. > :07:37.happy enough. They would have two cup my head off to stop me getting

:07:38. > :07:44.in the rain! He has to wait to find out whether the doctor will pass him

:07:45. > :07:52.fit. One person who is definitely fighting gold is Walsh. Her win sets

:07:53. > :08:02.up a final against the Olympic champion from England, Nicola Adams.

:08:03. > :08:07.Despite a battling performance, Murphy leaves with a bronze medal,

:08:08. > :08:17.as the Donnelly, who lost on a split decision. All eyes turn to the ring

:08:18. > :08:27.tomorrow, as Northern Ireland go for a four gold medals.

:08:28. > :08:31.Earlier today, Northern Ireland's lawn bowls team picked up a second

:08:32. > :08:33.medal of these games when the women's pairs beat Jersey by one

:08:34. > :08:36.point in a thriller that went to the last end.

:08:37. > :08:38.Barbara Cameron and Mandy Cunningham secured the bronze at Kelvingrove,

:08:39. > :08:42.to add to the silver won by the men's triples earlier in the week.

:08:43. > :08:45.And for Barbara, in her fifth games, what a fitting way to retire

:08:46. > :08:56.Now, at the Milk Cup tonight, and Northern Ireland made history by

:08:57. > :09:00.becoming the first team to win the Elite competition for a fourth time.

:09:01. > :09:10.County Antrim and Manchester United were also in action.

:09:11. > :09:18.Having shaken off the controversy of the match against Mexico, Northern

:09:19. > :09:29.Ireland dominated in the final against Canada. The only goal came

:09:30. > :09:37.when they were awarded a penalty. It was sent sailing past the Canadian

:09:38. > :09:44.goalkeeper. The boys have been terrific, right from the captain all

:09:45. > :09:49.the way through. They deserve everything they get. Earlier in the

:09:50. > :10:03.junior final, County Antrim were beaten by Corinthians. The cop

:10:04. > :10:16.travelling back to Brazil. In the other final, Manchester United

:10:17. > :10:20.enjoyed victory. That is from Glasgow.

:10:21. > :10:28.Finally, time for the weekend weather forecast, with Cecilia Daly.

:10:29. > :10:39.The weather is something of a mess in the next few days. The showers

:10:40. > :10:40.that there are around will to fizzle out, so it should be dry in many

:10:41. > :10:51.places. The bulk of the rain on Saturday

:10:52. > :10:57.following in Eastern counties during the course of the afternoon.

:10:58. > :11:05.Tomorrow afternoon, starting July, but showers never too far away in

:11:06. > :11:10.the East, with the needle you are to the Irish Sea, the more likely you

:11:11. > :11:16.are to ensure some heavy rain. Heavy rain warnings are in mourning place

:11:17. > :11:19.across Britain. None of them in Northern Ireland as yet, but it is

:11:20. > :11:30.something we will have to continue to monitor. Parts of Northern

:11:31. > :11:36.Ireland, particularly in the West will enjoy the best of the weather.

:11:37. > :11:40.Once that rain in the East sets in, it will be persistent. More wet

:11:41. > :11:46.weather on Saturday night and Sunday morning, but things will gradually

:11:47. > :11:50.improve. Sunday is an improving day and it looks as though temperatures

:11:51. > :11:52.will begin to pick up as we head up into the new week.

:11:53. > :11:56.That is it for now. I will be here with the next

:11:57. > :11:59.Newsline tomorrow at half past five. You can keep up to date with News

:12:00. > :12:00.Online and follow this programme on Facebook and Twitter.

:12:01. > :12:04.This is the story of how motoring came to the masses.

:12:05. > :12:08.How dictatorships and democracies alike pursued the dream

:12:09. > :12:16.Of red herrings and automotive cul-de-sacs.

:12:17. > :12:20.Of shattered dreams and the fall of the mighty.

:12:21. > :12:24.This is how we fell in love with our wheels.
