:00:00. > :00:10.The BBC has learned that a Belfast firm is laying off staff as a direct

:00:11. > :00:18.MFS, which has the contract to empty gullies

:00:19. > :00:20.across Northern Ireland, said its work is stopping as a result.

:00:21. > :00:35.Our political reporter Stephen Walker has the story.

:00:36. > :00:53.For 20 years, the Belfast company had been emptying... From immediate

:00:54. > :01:00.effect, we have been told there will be no war work. It's an unnamed time

:01:01. > :01:03.frame. We will have to lay them off temporarily, until this is resolved.

:01:04. > :01:06.How many staff does this affect? Somewhere in the region of ten or 11

:01:07. > :01:09.guys. In the wider chained off the supply chain, it could be another 30

:01:10. > :01:14.family affected. In total, 40 people will be affected. Absolutely, yes.

:01:15. > :01:19.One of those who is to lose his job is 29-year-old Paul. He has two

:01:20. > :01:24.children and is unsure where he can find work. There is no work out

:01:25. > :01:29.there at the minute. Everybody is the same. How long have you got left

:01:30. > :01:35.doing this? Could be next week, two weeks at the most, I would say. And

:01:36. > :01:40.then you will be looking for a job. Yeah, that's me done. Today's news

:01:41. > :01:45.comes after Danny Kennedy announced that services like road

:01:46. > :01:51.maintenance, streetlight repair were all being cut. The company have

:01:52. > :01:54.government contracts to cut grass and spray weeds. Those agreements

:01:55. > :01:59.with subcontractors have also been cancelled. Tonight, a spokesperson

:02:00. > :02:03.for the Department of regional development said and fortunately

:02:04. > :02:08.this serves to demonstrate what Danny Kennedy has warned about. The

:02:09. > :02:11.spokesperson also said the impact of the budget shortfall will have a

:02:12. > :02:17.detrimental impact on the lives of real people. The road from all the

:02:18. > :02:22.talk of budget cuts and June monitoring rounds, this is the human

:02:23. > :02:28.face of departmental cuts. Just 24 hours after Danny Kennedy's

:02:29. > :02:36.announcement, these workers are now looking for a new job.

:02:37. > :02:38.The Justice Minister David Ford has claimed his department is

:02:39. > :02:42.He's blaming Sinn Fein and the DUP's deadlock over welfare reform.

:02:43. > :02:44.He said police recruitment and court delays could be

:02:45. > :02:47.among the areas facing cutbacks, although the final breakdown isn't

:02:48. > :02:59.I had a meeting a fortnight ago with various bodies, looking at prisons,

:03:00. > :03:04.probation, youth justice and the courts. People have been asked to

:03:05. > :03:09.report by the end of this week as to the effect of cuts for this year and

:03:10. > :03:13.next. I made it clear that I would go back to the executive, if I did

:03:14. > :03:16.not believe we could properly protect the people of Northern

:03:17. > :03:18.Ireland, whether it be supervision of offenders, police officers on the

:03:19. > :03:21.street or whatever. A day centre for vulnerable adults

:03:22. > :03:24.in west Belfast is to close tomorrow due to safety concerns over

:03:25. > :03:26.a nearby anti-internment bonfire. The Belfast Health and Social Care

:03:27. > :03:30.Trust said it was closing the centre after complaints about anti-social

:03:31. > :03:46.behaviour around the bonfire site. This is how close the bonfire is to

:03:47. > :03:49.the day centre. And fears for the safety of those using the building

:03:50. > :03:54.mean it is going to shut down tomorrow for the day. The problem

:03:55. > :04:02.is, we have a disabled facility here. People with severe learning

:04:03. > :04:06.disabilities. It is being used as a run through and it has been going on

:04:07. > :04:12.all summer long. Now we are being forced closed. I'm very angry. I am

:04:13. > :04:18.angry because my daughter has to go through that, every day, along with

:04:19. > :04:22.the other people. How does that made you feel personally? I am so

:04:23. > :04:27.frustrated, I could cry. The centre helps some of the most vulnerable

:04:28. > :04:31.people living in this part of Belfast. Tomorrow's closure will

:04:32. > :04:35.cause disruption but the letter sent to parents and carers this week that

:04:36. > :04:41.it is clear. It will be for one day only. The MP for the area has been

:04:42. > :04:46.talking to young people about the bonfire and its impact on the local

:04:47. > :04:50.community. I would urge them to dismantle it. I would urge them to

:04:51. > :04:51.allow the services to come in to clear this were the way. I would

:04:52. > :04:55.urge them not to like clear this were the way. I would

:04:56. > :05:10.tomorrow night. The bonfire tomorrow night. Other... A petrol bomb was

:05:11. > :05:14.thrown. A 19-year-old and a 13-year-old were later arrested.

:05:15. > :05:19.They have since been released on police bail. Back at the beach Mount

:05:20. > :05:24.Day Centre, the gates are now closed. The bonfire is still there.

:05:25. > :05:28.It is due to the late tomorrow night. The day centre should reopen

:05:29. > :05:31.on Monday, as long as it is not damaged.

:05:32. > :05:34.The police say they've found what they believe to be ammunition on

:05:35. > :05:39.The Moira Road was closed for a time as officers carried out searches.

:05:40. > :05:40.The items, found near Tata Steel Works, have

:05:41. > :05:44.The former Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde says

:05:45. > :05:47.the Historical Enquiries Team is on the verge of being shut down.

:05:48. > :05:52.Speaking at an event being held as part of the west Belfast festival,

:05:53. > :05:59.Sir Hugh said that although he knew setting up the enquiries team was

:06:00. > :06:05.a huge risk, it was one he had been prepared to take.

:06:06. > :06:11.It was my idea. It is the one unique idea I've ever had in policing. I

:06:12. > :06:19.set it up because it was important to try and create an organisation

:06:20. > :06:23.which engage with families, to give them hope of having more information

:06:24. > :06:26.than they had before. I learned today that it would work for some

:06:27. > :06:28.people but it wasn't the overall solution to do with Northern

:06:29. > :06:31.Ireland's troubled history. Holiday makers in Portstewart have

:06:32. > :06:34.had more than ice cream and rock They have had

:06:35. > :06:37.the unique opportunity to spy on the making of the worldwide hit

:06:38. > :06:40.series, the Game of Thrones. On the downside, no one has been

:06:41. > :06:43.able to get onto the beach. Our arts correspondent,

:06:44. > :06:51.Maggie Taggart has been to see It is peak time for tourism here but

:06:52. > :06:56.if you have come to sample the sea and the sand, there is no chance.

:06:57. > :07:00.The National Trust owns the Strand and has rented it out to the makers

:07:01. > :07:04.of the programme. They will not say how much they were paid, only that

:07:05. > :07:09.the money will go into the budget. The bridge was closed yesterday and

:07:10. > :07:14.today, and only partially accessible for another six days. Paths nearby

:07:15. > :07:19.have been thronged with dog waters and sightseers, curious way glimpse

:07:20. > :07:23.of the action. The plus side is we are helping the economy. The minus

:07:24. > :07:28.side as there are people on holiday, up here for the day, and

:07:29. > :07:35.they cannot get onto the beach. Well, I suppose it is only for two

:07:36. > :07:39.days so if it had have been for longer, that would have been

:07:40. > :07:46.different. Two years ago, the beach here was hired to fill in these

:07:47. > :07:53.scenes. The area is now reaping the benefit. Downhill is now a more

:07:54. > :08:02.renowned beach. People are visiting Bishopsgate. The exposure we have

:08:03. > :08:05.got has been significant. Causing officials are delighted that the

:08:06. > :08:09.interest and say the inconveniences with it. This is the first year we

:08:10. > :08:16.have seen people coming specifically looking to do with tours. We had

:08:17. > :08:21.more people onto our website looking for it. We've had to reprint our map

:08:22. > :08:25.because it is so popular. It is not possible to see exactly what is

:08:26. > :08:34.going on in those sand dunes. All will become clear when series five

:08:35. > :08:39.is screened. Rory Mackle rise on two under par after 13 holes in his 13 -

:08:40. > :08:41.first round, four shots off the lead.

:08:42. > :08:43.Here's Cecilia Daly with a look at what the weather has

:08:44. > :08:53.Good evening. Heavy downpours are back in the forecast a night. It may

:08:54. > :08:58.be dry at the moment during the early hours, we see edging up from

:08:59. > :09:03.the south moraine. It will be in eastern counties. Most places will

:09:04. > :09:06.be at risk from a heavy shower during the course of tomorrow. The

:09:07. > :09:11.weather warning will kick in tomorrow morning. That is valid for

:09:12. > :09:17.Antrim, County Down, Armagh and parts of two road as well. During

:09:18. > :09:21.the rush hour, the risk of thunder and some disruption and localised

:09:22. > :09:25.flooding. Bear that in mind if you are travelling tomorrow. They will

:09:26. > :09:28.be some drier weather in the West and eventually drier weather will

:09:29. > :09:32.feeding during the late morning and early afternoon across most places.

:09:33. > :09:38.There are two areas of heavy rain across Britain and Ireland tomorrow.

:09:39. > :09:47.This one will affect us as well as Scotland and parts of the Republic.

:09:48. > :09:49.It will move away during the course of the day. Another area from the

:09:50. > :09:52.south-east will drift up into northern England. Outside of those

:09:53. > :09:54.areas, it would be dry and bright. Quite warm in the sun. For Northern

:09:55. > :09:57.Ireland, brighter in the afternoon. It will feel cooler than today

:09:58. > :10:01.overall but at least most places will end the day better than they

:10:02. > :10:07.started although there is still the risk of one or two heavy showers.

:10:08. > :10:09.Let's take a look at the weekend. Sunshine and showers for Northern

:10:10. > :10:13.Ireland. That is not the case for southern Britain. Heavy rain will be

:10:14. > :10:18.working its way up. Those are the remnants of hurricane Bertha. They

:10:19. > :10:21.will be heavy showers around but they will be semi-gaps as well.
