:03:17. > :03:21.superintendent killed by a car bomb in 1979. He has now been appointed
:03:22. > :03:26.the second most senior officer in the PSNI. But the move does not have
:03:27. > :03:29.the backing of Sinn Fein. The party's representative on the
:03:30. > :03:35.interview panel walked out of the process. Caitr?ona Ruane said that
:03:36. > :03:41.she believed the process might have been compromised. She said that in
:03:42. > :03:45.the light of having total transparency, the best option would
:03:46. > :03:51.be to have a completely new recent -- recruitment process. That angered
:03:52. > :03:56.others. Sinn Fein have a lot of questions to answer. They need to
:03:57. > :04:01.justify what they have claimed. I totally reject their allegations.
:04:02. > :04:05.The process was robust, there were independent advisers who played a
:04:06. > :04:09.part on the panel and gave advice to the panel. And we are prepared to
:04:10. > :04:16.stand over the process from beginning to end. A number of other
:04:17. > :04:19.board members have accused Sinn Fein of political policing, claiming the
:04:20. > :04:27.arrest of Gerry Adams earlier this year is the real reason that jet --
:04:28. > :04:32.the party left the process. I think there is a message from Sinn Fein,
:04:33. > :04:36.that if you are a police officer and use sign an arrest warrant for any
:04:37. > :04:40.member of Sinn Fein, as Drew Harris did, then your prospects for
:04:41. > :04:45.promotion are considerably limited. I think this is belligerent and
:04:46. > :04:49.bigoted and this is something that ultimately further questions are
:04:50. > :04:55.going to be asked about, over the fitness of Sinn Fein to even be part
:04:56. > :04:58.of the policing board. Caitr?ona Ruane issued a second statement
:04:59. > :05:05.saying that her concerns are over the process and do not reflect on
:05:06. > :05:09.the officers involved. PSNI sources say that they believe this is very
:05:10. > :05:13.personal. Their view is that Sinn Fein simply does not like Drew
:05:14. > :05:18.Harris and did not want to have any part in appointing him. That has
:05:19. > :05:22.been rejected by the leader of the Sinn Fein group on the policing
:05:23. > :05:28.board. That is complete nonsense. That is not the issue. If the
:05:29. > :05:34.process is wrong and the is compromise, then there is a duty to
:05:35. > :05:39.raise at that and I stand by Caitr?ona Ruane absolutely. Does
