:00:07. > :00:10.The police are treating as attempted murder an incident

:00:11. > :00:12.at lunchtime today when a police officer was struck by a lorry.

:00:13. > :00:15.The officer had been investigating the overnight theft

:00:16. > :00:17.of a cash machine from a petrol station near Newry.

:00:18. > :00:23.Colletta Smith reports from south Armagh.

:00:24. > :00:30.In the early hours of this morning, a cash machine was stolen in Newry,

:00:31. > :00:36.it is not the first time this garage has been targeted. It took me six

:00:37. > :00:44.years to lobby and get a machine here. This firm from England took us

:00:45. > :00:48.on and the local community have been loving it and they have been happy

:00:49. > :00:52.with the business, but I don't think they will take us on after that. No

:00:53. > :00:56.machine would come back here. Police on both sides of the border

:00:57. > :01:02.were tasked with finding it, but the situation escalated. A local PSNI

:01:03. > :01:06.spotted a silver lorry with a car on the back, when he got out of his

:01:07. > :01:09.car, the lorry drove towards him. He was hit and pinned between the

:01:10. > :01:14.police car and the lorry which sped off. This is the border with

:01:15. > :01:19.Monaghan and the road runs parallel to this border 20 meters ahead of me

:01:20. > :01:22.and it was on this road that the officer was injured earlier today.

:01:23. > :01:27.Colleagues provided first aid, but the officer was taken by helicopter

:01:28. > :01:30.to hospital in Belfast. He has serious injuries, although at

:01:31. > :01:36.this stage, they are not thought to be life threatening. Gardai in

:01:37. > :01:41.Monaghan managed to find the stolen ATM in a separate white transit van.

:01:42. > :01:46.They arrested one man, but two others escaped on foot. Alongside

:01:47. > :01:48.the robbery, the PSNI say they are treating the incident as attempted

:01:49. > :01:54.murder. And the Belfast Trust say the PSNI

:01:55. > :01:57.officer is in a stable condition Downing Street has confirmed that

:01:58. > :02:00.the First and the deputy First Minister met David Cameron

:02:01. > :02:03.at Number Ten this afternoon, in the latest move to get agreement

:02:04. > :02:06.at the Stormont House talks. Here's our political correspondent,

:02:07. > :02:16.Stephen Walker. The first and Deputy First Ministers

:02:17. > :02:20.met the Prime Minister, David Cameron, in Downing Street with the

:02:21. > :02:24.Secretary of State, Theresa Villiers, the whole issue of finance

:02:25. > :02:28.was on the agenda and if a deal is possible in the days ahead, it is

:02:29. > :02:32.clear the whole issue of money will be an essential component of any new

:02:33. > :02:37.deal. Today's meeting comes after the Secretary of State told the BBC

:02:38. > :02:40.programme The View that a deal is possible next week, and comes after

:02:41. > :02:43.the Sinn Fein president, Gerry Adams, said he thought the talks

:02:44. > :02:47.process at Stormont was heading towards a conclusion. Today's

:02:48. > :02:51.meeting will be seen as significant, but it will also be interpreted as a

:02:52. > :02:56.good sign as the Prime Minister only tends to get involved in this stage

:02:57. > :02:59.of the talks process if a deal looks likely.

:03:00. > :03:01.The BBC understands that around a third

:03:02. > :03:04.of the teaching staff at one of West Belfast's biggest secondary schools

:03:05. > :03:11.This comes soon after an apparent industrial relations dispute at De

:03:12. > :03:20.Our education correspondent Robbie Meredith reports.

:03:21. > :03:30.I'm here outside De La Salle College in Andersons sons town. On

:03:31. > :03:38.Wednesday, over 25 teachers out of a teaching staff of 70 called in sick.

:03:39. > :03:43.An apparent dispute at the school which has around 1,000 centres on an

:03:44. > :03:47.incident prior to half term. Many of the staff were concerned about how

:03:48. > :03:51.it was handled and sent a letter to the principal. Many of the teachers

:03:52. > :03:55.stood silently at the doors of their classrooms. A staff meeting on

:03:56. > :03:59.Monday when no pupils were at the school has been described as robust.

:04:00. > :04:03.There has been little comment from the teaching unions. The INTO, which

:04:04. > :04:06.represents most teachers in the school, said that it and the other

:04:07. > :04:12.unions were attempting to resolve what it described as an industrial

:04:13. > :04:16.relations issue. It is my understanding that 15 teachers

:04:17. > :04:21.called in sick today. The council for Catholic maintained schools said

:04:22. > :04:22.there will be meetings next week, involving it and the border of

:04:23. > :04:26.governors and unions. The Police Ombudsman is

:04:27. > :04:29.investigating a claim that the IRA was allowed to break

:04:30. > :04:31.into the offices of Special Branch in Castlereagh to protect

:04:32. > :04:34.an agent within the organisation. The allegation has been made

:04:35. > :04:37.by a former Special Branch officer. Our Home Affairs Correspondent

:04:38. > :04:45.Vincent Kearney reports. What happened here that Castlereagh

:04:46. > :04:47.police station on St Patrick's Day 13 years ago was one

:04:48. > :04:50.of the biggest and most embarrassing An IRA unit broke into the

:04:51. > :05:06.offices of Special Branch and stole dozens

:05:07. > :05:07.of highly sensitive documents. It included a list of special Branch

:05:08. > :05:10.officers as well as codenames of Dozens of police agents had to move

:05:11. > :05:14.house after being warned The IRA and Sinn Fein denied

:05:15. > :05:23.republicans were responsible. Sinn Fein has not been involved in

:05:24. > :05:26.any of these alleged that incidence and the IRA has said they are not

:05:27. > :05:29.involved and we believe them. No one was ever convicted

:05:30. > :05:40.of involvement in the lead No one was ever convicted

:05:41. > :05:43.of involvement in the raid and none of the stolen documents

:05:44. > :05:46.have ever been recovered. Now a former member of Special

:05:47. > :05:49.Branch has contacted a Belfast law firm and claim the break and was

:05:50. > :05:54.allowed to happen to protect a The company wrote to the

:05:55. > :06:01.Chief Constable and he referred The Police Ombudsman has confirmed

:06:02. > :06:08.that an investigation has been launched

:06:09. > :06:11.and investigators have asked to meet the former Special Branch officer

:06:12. > :06:14.to question him about his claims. His lawyer says he will

:06:15. > :06:16.investigate fully. The PSNI says it will be

:06:17. > :06:18.inappropriate to comment while The BBC understands that

:06:19. > :06:24.around a third of the teaching staff Yesterday we showed you this

:06:25. > :06:26.stunning autumnal photograph of a deer swimming across Upper

:06:27. > :06:29.Lough Erne near Newtownbutler. Our south west reporter

:06:30. > :06:31.Julian Fowler went in search of the photographer who is

:06:32. > :06:45.a National Trust Ranger. The 2,000 acre Crom estate is a

:06:46. > :06:49.beautiful and tranquil place. Its ancient woodlands an important

:06:50. > :06:55.conservation area. It includes fal owe deer. To see them and photograph

:06:56. > :07:00.them isn't easy, but Colin Beacom was in the right place at the time

:07:01. > :07:05.time with his camera. We were travelling to one of our islands to

:07:06. > :07:10.check on fence lines, make sure they are all intact and just turning a

:07:11. > :07:15.bend in the water and there it was, straight in front of us. All the

:07:16. > :07:19.lovely autumn colours as well and this majestic buck swimming in the

:07:20. > :07:20.water. For a keen wildlife photographer this is the perfect

:07:21. > :07:26.place to work. The Irish Football Association has

:07:27. > :07:32.confirmed that approval has been granted for the rebuilding of

:07:33. > :07:34.the West Stand at Windsor Park. In March, structural problems

:07:35. > :07:36.were identified which meant The new stand,

:07:37. > :07:43.which will hold 3,400 fans will be open in time for Northern Ireland's

:07:44. > :07:46.World Cup qualifying game against And the cost will be covered

:07:47. > :07:56.by insurance. And just one result in

:07:57. > :07:59.the football tonight, Cliftonville beat Warrenpoint Town 2-1 in

:08:00. > :08:01.the Irish Premiership at Solitude. Jude Winchester scored both goals

:08:02. > :08:04.in quick succession to secure all three points for the home side

:08:05. > :08:23.with Daniel Hughes scoring a late Hello. Good evening. The weather has

:08:24. > :08:27.been see sawing a bit over the last couple of days and we continue with

:08:28. > :08:31.that weather motion as we go into the weekend. Yes, there will be dry

:08:32. > :08:35.slots around, but rain never too far away. Windy particularly on Sunday,

:08:36. > :08:38.but at least the winds will be bringing fairly mild air. So through

:08:39. > :08:43.tonight, well, there will be clear spells but for a time, some sharp

:08:44. > :08:46.showers through the north and the west. They should clear and

:08:47. > :08:49.temperatures drop to seven Celsius. You can tell by the splashes of

:08:50. > :08:53.blue, we have a change on the way again tomorrow. In fact we're doing

:08:54. > :08:57.it again. It will brighten up eventually, but not before we get

:08:58. > :09:01.another batch of rain. Some fairly persistent rain moving in to affect

:09:02. > :09:06.most parts really, the heaviest bursts likely towards the east and

:09:07. > :09:09.the band of rain more or less extends across the Ireland towards

:09:10. > :09:15.central and Southern Scotland. Wet and windy for England and across

:09:16. > :09:20.ales for a time. Mild in the south at 18 Celsius. It should brighten up

:09:21. > :09:23.across Wales and the south-west as it will across the Republic of

:09:24. > :09:27.Ireland. Here too, we will see that rain starting to slide away

:09:28. > :09:31.eastwards as well. So that drier, brighter weather reaches us in the

:09:32. > :09:35.afternoon, but it won't be as mild as it was today. Temperatures close

:09:36. > :09:39.to or above average, 11 Celsius or 12 Celsius. Quite a cool night

:09:40. > :09:42.tomorrow night, but the temperatures recover on Sunday, but the winds are

:09:43. > :09:49.picking up. Strong southerly winds on Sunday with heavy and persistent

:09:50. > :09:56.bursts of rain and it remains blustery and showery into the start

:09:57. > :10:00.of next week. That's it for now. Goodbye.
