:00:08. > :00:11.The incident happened near the border

:00:12. > :00:14.as he investigated the earlier theft of a cash machine near Newry.

:00:15. > :00:17.This afternoon, a man from County Armagh appeared in court in

:00:18. > :00:19.the Republic charged in connection with the theft of the ATM.

:00:20. > :00:32.The isolated border road were the PSNI

:00:33. > :00:38.The isolated border road were the murder one of its officers. It

:00:39. > :00:42.happened shortly after lunchtime yesterday, as he investigated an

:00:43. > :00:46.earlier crying a few miles away. This road is isolated, narrow and

:00:47. > :00:50.winding and leads down to the border with Monaghan. Perhaps two miles

:00:51. > :00:57.outside this area. The officer was flagging down a lorry but it was

:00:58. > :01:01.driven right at him, pinning him against a police vehicle.

:01:02. > :01:05.The lorry then sped off. On the verge, clear signs of the police

:01:06. > :01:08.investigation into what happened. The officer suffered head and ankle

:01:09. > :01:12.injuries and was airlifted to hospital in Belfast.

:01:13. > :01:17.The lorry had been stolen in the area and was later found burnt out

:01:18. > :01:21.across the border. The police are now examining it. The

:01:22. > :01:25.injured officer had been investigating this theft of a cash

:01:26. > :01:28.machine using a digger near Newry earlier on Friday morning.

:01:29. > :01:33.The police later recovered it largely intact near County Monaghan.

:01:34. > :01:36.This afternoon, a man appeared at largely intact near County Monaghan.

:01:37. > :01:40.special sitting of the District Court charged with criminal damage

:01:41. > :01:46.and possession of stolen property. 24-year-old Adam Grant from Silver

:01:47. > :01:49.Bridge, County Armagh, was remanded in custody.

:01:50. > :01:55.The quite separate incidents, the later attempt to run the police

:01:56. > :01:58.officer over as he investigated, has shocked local people.

:01:59. > :02:01.I sincerely hope they find who is responsible and they are brought to

:02:02. > :02:10.justice. Our community will not stand for this type of action.

:02:11. > :02:15.I think this was a very serious attempt, a life-threatening attempt,

:02:16. > :02:21.on a police officer. I think it highlights the dangers but officers

:02:22. > :02:24.face from criminal elements. It has to be dealt with. It have to be

:02:25. > :02:28.dealt with and the best way of dealing with it is a community

:02:29. > :02:30.responds to root out those responsible.

:02:31. > :02:33.The police officer has now been discharged from hospital.

:02:34. > :02:36.A number of families were moved from their homes due to a security alert

:02:37. > :02:40.The alert on the Woodvale Road lasted several hours and,

:02:41. > :02:42.a short time ago, police say nothing suspicious was found.

:02:43. > :02:47.Thousands of primary school children have been

:02:48. > :02:52.The unofficial annual tests are continuing in the absence

:02:53. > :02:55.of a government approved exam to replace the old 11-plus.

:02:56. > :02:58.Some children will sit tests over the next few weeks

:02:59. > :02:59.for both the maintained and controlled education sectors.

:03:00. > :03:16.The first test over and -- over with instant approval. Outside, a little

:03:17. > :03:22.more restraint. They are trying to shield their children from the

:03:23. > :03:26.normal pressures of exams. All part of the journey towards

:03:27. > :03:30.selection for one of their schools of choice. The 11 plus exam was

:03:31. > :03:35.abolished in 2008. Seven years on, children are still

:03:36. > :03:40.sitting on official exams. For some children, not just one or two exams

:03:41. > :03:43.but up to five unofficial transfer exams.

:03:44. > :03:46.The maths questions were quite hard but the English was easy.

:03:47. > :03:49.Most of the questions were easier than the ones I have been doing in

:03:50. > :03:53.school. It is as two out of three tests so

:03:54. > :03:58.you have another chance. The bad bits are waiting at the end.

:03:59. > :04:01.I think she is relieved. She knows what to expect now.

:04:02. > :04:06.It's a bit nerve wracking match them going in On the Run.

:04:07. > :04:12.For the schools, there is a willingness to operate the premises

:04:13. > :04:16.until a better one comes along. It's not an ideal system. An ideal

:04:17. > :04:22.system would be one the government approved of and managed. The system

:04:23. > :04:26.works. After seven years, it proves that it works. We are stuck with it

:04:27. > :04:30.for the moment. Hopefully, something will be sorted out in the future

:04:31. > :04:33.which everyone can agree to. More tests will follow but the

:04:34. > :04:36.pressures are over for today and its family time again.

:04:37. > :04:38.Well, it was a horrible day today, as these pictures

:04:39. > :04:40.from the Albertbridge Road in Belfast can confirm.

:04:41. > :04:44.Let's have a look at what we can expect for the rest of the weekend,

:04:45. > :04:57.Today both migraine is clearly leaving a dry evening if you are

:04:58. > :05:01.heading out. Clear skies expected like last night when we saw the

:05:02. > :05:05.Northern lights. Thanks for that photograph. Keep them coming in.

:05:06. > :05:11.Through the night, it stays dry and temperatures probably staying in the

:05:12. > :05:14.mid to high teens for most. Tomorrow will be more unsettled. You will

:05:15. > :05:20.notice the wind is beginning to pick up, especially towards the north

:05:21. > :05:24.coast. 50 to 60 mph. Over the next few days, it spells of rain. Next

:05:25. > :05:30.week will be another mild start. Through tomorrow morning, more rain

:05:31. > :05:34.coming up, some of its heavy. It will be quite an unsettled picture

:05:35. > :05:37.across much of Britain and Ireland with the exception of some central

:05:38. > :05:43.and southern areas of England. Likely to stay dry and cloudy here.

:05:44. > :05:46.A wet and windy pictures for most of the day across Ireland but slowly

:05:47. > :05:48.improving from the West as drier conditions and some

:05:49. > :05:51.improving from the West as drier For the

:05:52. > :05:55.improving from the West as drier while before the rain clears. By

:05:56. > :05:57.tomorrow evening, it will turn dry again.

:05:58. > :06:01.Temperatures tomorrow up to 15 degrees, well above average. We hold

:06:02. > :06:05.on to the mild conditions into Monday but it will be unsettled.

:06:06. > :06:10.We will have a south-westerly winds and some more rain to contend with.

:06:11. > :06:13.As we make our way through the new week, we will see the temperatures

:06:14. > :06:17.starting to slowly go back to where they should be for the time of year.

:06:18. > :06:19.Do keep the big coat handy by the end of next week.
