:00:00. > :00:10.has been found guilty for the second time

:00:11. > :00:18.Earlier this year, the Court of Appeal quashed his conviction

:00:19. > :00:22.because of an error in the judge's instructions to the jury.

:00:23. > :00:30.You may find some pictures in Helen Jones report distressing.

:00:31. > :00:42.This CCTV footage shows the last images of her before she was killed.

:00:43. > :00:46.She was a pregnant mother of four and an ex-partner of the man who

:00:47. > :00:49.murdered her. Cahoon has a history of violence

:00:50. > :00:51.against women. This is an image of

:00:52. > :00:53.the then 18-year-old Lynne McGall. He beat her beyond recognition

:00:54. > :01:01.in 1997. This is her two years later, when

:01:02. > :01:05.Stephen was convicted. Today, the jury took just under four hours to

:01:06. > :01:10.find him guilty of murdering Jean Quigley. Her body was found naked

:01:11. > :01:16.and bruised at her home in Derry in 2008. She was ten weeks pregnant

:01:17. > :01:19.with his child. Describing events leading up to her death, he told the

:01:20. > :01:24.jury he saw red when she told him the maybe was not his. So, he said

:01:25. > :01:27.he grabbed and pushed her and put his hand on her throat.

:01:28. > :01:29.He admitted strangling her but not murder.

:01:30. > :01:32.There was evidence of violence from beginning to end at the scene.

:01:33. > :01:34.There was evidence heard the door had been broken

:01:35. > :01:36.and there were defensive injuries and bruising

:01:37. > :01:40.which were utterly inconsistent with his version of events.

:01:41. > :01:42.Arrested in the Republic, Cahoon opted for a trial in Dublin.

:01:43. > :01:45.The first jury failed to reach a verdict.

:01:46. > :01:49.A subsequent conviction was quashed on appeal because of a technicality.

:01:50. > :01:52.Today, another jury, the third, found him guilty.

:01:53. > :01:54.He has been sentenced to life in prison,

:01:55. > :02:05.is having a corrosive impact on society,

:02:06. > :02:08.A legal challenge is being brought by two gay couples

:02:09. > :02:11.who were the first to enter into civil partnerships in the UK.

:02:12. > :02:17.The hearing will end tomorrow with a ruling expected after Christmas.

:02:18. > :02:18.The former Finance Minister Sammy Wilson

:02:19. > :02:20.has described Stormont's NAMA inquiry

:02:21. > :02:24.The Assembly's Finance committee is investigating a claim

:02:25. > :02:29.that a politician or party was to receive ?7 million

:02:30. > :02:31.with the sale of the Northern Ireland

:02:32. > :02:35.to a US investment fund last year.

:02:36. > :02:40.Our Economics and Business Editor John Campbell has more.

:02:41. > :02:43.Sammy Wilson stood down from the Assembly in August.

:02:44. > :02:47.Today, he was back and in fighting form.

:02:48. > :02:50.I said I was quite happy to come along in August

:02:51. > :02:58.Had I known subsequently the way in which this committee was going,

:02:59. > :03:03.I doubt very much if I would have come along

:03:04. > :03:10.to grace the Mickey Mouse exercise which has been undertaken.

:03:11. > :03:14.when the organisation was set up in 2010.

:03:15. > :03:17.Its job was to take control of property loans

:03:18. > :03:24.He recommended businessman Frank Cushnahan should advise them

:03:25. > :03:31.In 2013, he arranged a meeting with the US company PIMCO,

:03:32. > :03:41.which wanted to buy the Northern Ireland loans.

:03:42. > :03:46.Later, he went to work for PIMCO

:03:47. > :03:49.and stood to gain ?5 million if the deal went through.

:03:50. > :03:51.wanted to know more about that meeting in 2013.

:03:52. > :03:54.Was it appropriate for him to be at that meeting?

:03:55. > :04:06.Later on, I wrote a letter to NAMA telling them I had had this meeting

:04:07. > :04:11.and outlining the discussions taken at the meeting.

:04:12. > :04:14.Then he went on the attack, accusing one committee member

:04:15. > :04:16.of having his own conflict of interest

:04:17. > :04:19.because the paper he controls has taken adverts

:04:20. > :04:23.from a company connected to a critic of the NAMA deal.

:04:24. > :04:30.Did you make a declaration that on a weekly basis Gareth Graham

:04:31. > :04:34.takes a two-page spread in a paper which you're a director of

:04:35. > :04:45.and pays you money, because I assume you do not do it for nothing?

:04:46. > :04:49.Can I get back to this question, Mr Wilson,

:04:50. > :04:52.Throughout his evidence, Sammy stuck firmly to the view

:04:53. > :04:55.that no wrongdoing has been shown by politicians or anyone else,

:04:56. > :05:02.and he believes the NAMA deal has been good for Northern Ireland.

:05:03. > :05:04.The next major witness the committee wants to hear from

:05:05. > :05:11.is another former Finance Minister, Simon Hamilton.

:05:12. > :05:13.One of the SDLP's longest serving elected representatives

:05:14. > :05:15.has announced his retirement from politics.

:05:16. > :05:18.Pat Ramsey will step down as an MLA at the end of this month

:05:19. > :05:24.New draft guidelines on abortion drawn up by the Health Minister

:05:25. > :05:28.continue to advise doctors that fatal foetal abnormality

:05:29. > :05:32.is not in itself grounds for a lawful termination.

:05:33. > :05:35.The guidelines have been circulated to the Executive

:05:36. > :05:38.and a copy has been seen by the BBC's The View programme.

:05:39. > :05:40.Earlier, our Political Editor Mark Devenport explained

:05:41. > :05:47.what he thinks the next step will be.

:05:48. > :05:55.It is quite a complex is because first of all, the judge who ruled

:05:56. > :05:59.that the current law is in breach of the European Convention is going to

:06:00. > :06:04.decide weather we will read down his judgment, to try to change the law,

:06:05. > :06:07.I simply say that the current law is incompatible. That particular

:06:08. > :06:12.judgment may well go to an appeal, which could, given the way the

:06:13. > :06:16.courts work, last for some time. If it does come back to the

:06:17. > :06:20.politicians, even though we have these guidelines, abortion remains a

:06:21. > :06:23.very controversial topic. One can imagine they will argue about it for

:06:24. > :06:27.some time to come. Separately, there is another legal case where a woman

:06:28. > :06:32.is seeking to get a copy of these guidelines, which have so far only

:06:33. > :06:34.been circulated to Executive ministers and Review.

:06:35. > :06:37.And you can see more on that on The View

:06:38. > :06:38.just after this news here on BBC One

:06:39. > :06:43.A man in his 50s has died in a fire in Enniskillen.

:06:44. > :06:45.The body was found inside a house in Drumgay Close

:06:46. > :06:47.in the Kilmacormick area of the town.

:06:48. > :06:49.Our reporter in the south west, Julian Fowler, reports.

:06:50. > :06:50.The Fire Brigade received a call

:06:51. > :06:52.at around 8:30am this morning.

:06:53. > :06:55.Crews went into the house and used breathing apparatus

:06:56. > :07:01.and discovered the man dead in an upstairs bedroom.

:07:02. > :07:04.The only visible signs of the fire from outside

:07:05. > :07:11.The victim of the fire had lived in the street for many years

:07:12. > :07:21.People had been preparing for Christmas

:07:22. > :07:23.and his sudden death has come as a terrible shock.

:07:24. > :07:27.One resident told me she could not have asked for a better neighbour.

:07:28. > :07:28.Firefighters returned to the scene this afternoon

:07:29. > :07:31.to assist with the investigation and the removal of his remains,

:07:32. > :07:35.as family, friends and neighbours stood nearby.

:07:36. > :07:38.The police and forensic scientists have been carrying out

:07:39. > :07:42.an investigation to try to establish what caused the fire.

:07:43. > :07:45.There is nothing to suggest this as anything other

:07:46. > :07:50.A 38-year-old man's been in court

:07:51. > :07:52.charged with the attempted murder of a police officer

:07:53. > :07:57.Gavin Coyle whose address was given as Maghaberry Prison

:07:58. > :08:00.The off duty police officer was seriously injured

:08:01. > :08:12.Coyle is also accused of causing an explosion and IRA membership.

:08:13. > :08:23.Good evening. There is more wet and windy weather on the way but at

:08:24. > :08:27.least tonight will be much drier. Just one or two showers around.

:08:28. > :08:31.Quite chilly, temperatures could drop low enough for some icy patches

:08:32. > :08:34.and the breeze will start to session. It is the wind will notice

:08:35. > :08:40.initially tomorrow. Increasingly windy. Most of the rain will hold

:08:41. > :08:45.off until tomorrow evening due to this deep area of low pressure. Look

:08:46. > :08:49.at all of the line, giving away it will get windy. As this weather

:08:50. > :08:52.front moves in later in the day, it will bring heavy rain. Some warnings

:08:53. > :08:56.have been issued for strong winds and heavy rain through parts of

:08:57. > :09:02.Friday and indeed on Saturday as well. Not too bad tomorrow morning.

:09:03. > :09:07.A little breezy but just one or two showers. Relatively dry in most

:09:08. > :09:10.places. That first batch of rain mainly birds into the West of

:09:11. > :09:14.Scotland. Most other places will be dry and will be some sunshine here

:09:15. > :09:18.and there and it will be mild. The first wave of strong winds moves in

:09:19. > :09:21.across the public, Northern Ireland and central Britain tomorrow

:09:22. > :09:27.afternoon. -- across the Republic. We are likely to see some heat gusts

:09:28. > :09:33.of 60 mph, bringing down some trees and causing disruption possible. --

:09:34. > :09:37.some wind gusts. Some very wet and windy weather around on Friday

:09:38. > :09:41.night. Not great for those out celebrating Christmas parties. The

:09:42. > :09:45.rain continues on Saturday and could well lead to some flooding, as it

:09:46. > :09:47.piled up. Still pretty lively winds on Saturday but thankfully, it dries

:09:48. > :09:48.up during Sunday. Our next BBC Newsline is

:09:49. > :09:53.at 6:25 in the morning
