:00:00. > :00:08.Three teenagers have been in court charged with the murder

:00:09. > :00:14.He was attacked by a gang in Twinbrook in what the police have

:00:15. > :00:16.described as a vicious and sustained attack.

:00:17. > :00:26.Last night in Twinbrook, they gathered to remember the life

:00:27. > :00:31.His body was found on Saturday in an area known locally

:00:32. > :00:38.The police said he had been the victim of a sustained

:00:39. > :00:42.and vicious assault during which he was kicked and beaten.

:00:43. > :00:44.In Lisburn this morning, three teenagers were brought

:00:45. > :00:47.to the Magistrates' Court, charged with his murder.

:00:48. > :00:50.Appearing in the dock were 18-year-old Stephen McCann,

:00:51. > :00:53.of Bearnagh Glen, Dunmurry, 18-year-old Lee Smyth

:00:54. > :00:58.of Colinbrook Gardens, Dunmurry, and a 16-year-old boy who

:00:59. > :01:04.All three were remanded in custody to appear again by video link

:01:05. > :01:10.During the hearing around 25 family members and friends

:01:11. > :01:15.His mother cried out in grief several times and eventually left

:01:16. > :01:18.before the proceedings were completed.

:01:19. > :01:20.Others addressed comments to the accused and were asked

:01:21. > :01:25.A detective sergeant told the court he believed he could connect

:01:26. > :01:30.But solicitors for all three of them cross-examined him,

:01:31. > :01:33.one saying it was astounding that there was no other evidence

:01:34. > :01:37.than his client's own account of events given to detectives.

:01:38. > :01:40.It was revealed that at least two of the accused had attended

:01:41. > :01:43.Grosvenor Road Police Station voluntarily as witnesses.

:01:44. > :01:46.During these exchanges a picture emerged, a confusing one

:01:47. > :01:49.from the accounts of the night of the killing.

:01:50. > :01:52.There were many groups and individuals, some fighting

:01:53. > :01:55.and claims of a knife being produced.

:01:56. > :01:58.The detective sergeant told the court the PSNI has

:01:59. > :02:09.The first group of Syrian refugee families has arrived in Belfast.

:02:10. > :02:13.11 of them are children aged under five.

:02:14. > :02:16.BBC Newsline's Tara Mills met a family from Syria who've lived

:02:17. > :02:20.here for the past two years to see what it's been like to settle

:02:21. > :02:25.They didn't want their surnames used in case of reprisal

:02:26. > :02:31.Touching down in a new country far from home.

:02:32. > :02:35.After two years living as refugees, 51 Syrians arrived in Belfast

:02:36. > :02:48.And this family living in Lisburn knows exactly what they're facing.

:02:49. > :02:51.While normal life is something they enjoy now, the journey to come

:02:52. > :02:55.to Northern Ireland has been far from straightforward.

:02:56. > :02:59.I discovered that we must find a safe place.

:03:00. > :03:04.I told my wife because she has a foreign passport to go there

:03:05. > :03:08.and find anything to survive my children, anything.

:03:09. > :03:11.I told them I was ready to pay everything I have,

:03:12. > :03:15.just to survive our family because...

:03:16. > :03:21.As she was growing up, little did Abir know

:03:22. > :03:23.that the fact her mum was from Belfast would eventually

:03:24. > :03:29.First I went to Wales, where are my brothers,

:03:30. > :03:35.I tried England but I found it better to come and live with Mummy

:03:36. > :03:39.here because she was settled one year before me.

:03:40. > :03:41.And this is the city they left behind

:03:42. > :03:44.and with it, Mahfouz's career as a dentist.

:03:45. > :03:48.His qualifications don't transfer to the UK, so instead he's working

:03:49. > :03:59.It's manual work for blinds, and I need manual work,

:04:00. > :04:10.12-year-old Hamza told me what he thinks of living here.

:04:11. > :04:15.It's really nice, really peaceful and quiet.

:04:16. > :04:21.People here are really friendly and it's better than Syria.

:04:22. > :04:26.Were you aware of that even though you were young?

:04:27. > :04:31.Yeah, I remember the bombings and at night sometimes

:04:32. > :04:36.Abir has already volunteered to help the newcomer families,

:04:37. > :04:41.Thankfully this family haven't experienced any racism

:04:42. > :04:45.in the two years they've lived here, despite a sharp increase in attacks.

:04:46. > :04:47.Life in Northern Ireland is something

:04:48. > :04:57.We find it like a gift from the sky, from the heaven.

:04:58. > :05:00.Any different passport to put our children in a safe place.

:05:01. > :05:03.It's hoped the families arriving here today will feel the same

:05:04. > :05:11.And tomorrow Good Morning Ulster will hear from two of the charities

:05:12. > :05:14.who are helping the Syrian refugees settle in.

:05:15. > :05:19.The programme is on BBC Radio Ulster starting at 6:30pm.

:05:20. > :05:22.An attempt to halt the trial of an evangelical preacher has failed.

:05:23. > :05:25.Pastor James McConnell's legal team argued in court today

:05:26. > :05:29.that there was not enough evidence to prosecute him over remarks

:05:30. > :05:33.he made about Islam in a sermon last year.

:05:34. > :05:36.But a judge ruled that the case should continue.

:05:37. > :05:41.BBC Newsline's Mark Simpson was in the court.

:05:42. > :05:43.Pastor McConnell arrived for day two of his trial,

:05:44. > :05:48.His legal team argued that the evidence against him

:05:49. > :05:52.was so weak, the case should be thrown out.

:05:53. > :05:57.He accepts that he called Islam "Satanic" and "heathen"

:05:58. > :06:01.and that he talked about not trusting Muslims.

:06:02. > :06:03.But he denies the comments were grossly offensive

:06:04. > :06:09.This afternoon the judge weighed up the evidence so far in the case

:06:10. > :06:14.and said the trial should continue, but he made it clear he hadn't

:06:15. > :06:19.made up his mind on whether the Pastor was guilty or not.

:06:20. > :06:23.He put a question to the defence barrister, Mr Mateer QC,

:06:24. > :06:29.saying if a Belfast Muslim called Christianity Satanic or heathen

:06:30. > :06:31.and said he didn't trust Christians in Britain,

:06:32. > :06:34.would that be deemed grossly offensive?

:06:35. > :06:39.The defence barrister said the words may be upsetting and disturbing

:06:40. > :06:43.but he didn't deem them grossly offensive and they should be

:06:44. > :07:04.The prosecution say they don't doubt that Pastor McConnell has

:07:05. > :07:07.a deeply-held faith, but they say there are limits

:07:08. > :07:10.to what can be said within the law, and that

:07:11. > :07:15.The case continues tomorrow, when the Pastor may be

:07:16. > :07:25.Cliftonville will meet Ards in the JBE League Cup final.

:08:34. > :08:39.will be damp and murky tonight, rain on and off, most of it not too heavy

:08:40. > :08:46.but the cloud will sink onto the hills, temperatures holding up well.

:08:47. > :08:50.Tonight's temperatures will be higher than the average daytime

:08:51. > :08:55.temperature for December, so to begin it is great and damp but it

:08:56. > :09:00.may improve as the morning goes on and a lot of the day will become dry

:09:01. > :09:04.as the rain peters out. A little brightness through the afternoon,

:09:05. > :09:10.for Scotland it looks like staying misty and great, light rain never

:09:11. > :09:15.our way, likewise for Northern Paignton, further south more dry

:09:16. > :09:19.weather but lots of cloud and there will be off across the south coast

:09:20. > :09:22.of Ireland and south-west England but temperatures could get into the

:09:23. > :09:28.mid-teens across Southern counties of England. We are looking at a

:09:29. > :09:33.warmer day tomorrow, not as breezy as today. There will be some rain on

:09:34. > :09:38.Wednesday night which will linger into Thursday morning, as that moves

:09:39. > :09:43.away a lot of cloud but pockets of rain and drizzle and temperatures in

:09:44. > :09:48.the low teens. It looks like it will be wet on Friday and Saturday but

:09:49. > :09:53.temperatures could approach the mid-teens, especially on Saturday as
