:03:01. > :03:04.Among the finds is a rare Boer War tin, sent to the troops by Queen

:03:05. > :03:14.Louise Cullen has been finding out more.

:03:15. > :03:21.October 18 99. The Boer War began. It brought thousands of young men to

:03:22. > :03:26.South Africa fighting the British Army, far from home and amid early

:03:27. > :03:31.heavy losses in the campaign, morale by Christmas of that year was at

:03:32. > :03:35.rock bottom. Queen Victoria decided to send a tin containing chocolate

:03:36. > :03:40.each soldier on the front. The problem was it was Cadburys, and

:03:41. > :03:43.that is who she wanted to give her warrants to. There were pacifists

:03:44. > :03:49.and Quakers did not believe in the war, so they have this dilemma

:03:50. > :03:52.should we give something to support people fighting? The Queen told them

:03:53. > :03:57.to do so, so they believed they should. The three main chocolatiers

:03:58. > :04:01.of the time were all pacifist Quakers and decided they would all

:04:02. > :04:06.make chocolate for the tins. But that still didn't help. They'll

:04:07. > :04:10.agreed they will put their names on the chocolate, but the Queen did not

:04:11. > :04:14.want that, because Cadburys was hers. So the agreement was made that

:04:15. > :04:18.they would all be labelled as Cadburys, but the chocolate inside

:04:19. > :04:22.would bear the name of the Manufacturer. The chocolate in this

:04:23. > :04:27.tip was eaten by a soldier who survived the Boer War only to die in

:04:28. > :04:32.the last year of World War I, 1918. The lie many others, is tin became a

:04:33. > :04:35.memento box and a reminder of the home he plonked to see at Christmas.

:04:36. > :04:38.-- this, like many others. Here's Cecilia with

:04:39. > :04:49.the all-important Christmas weather. Not longer now, just a few hours

:04:50. > :04:52.until Christmas Day. If you on the road tonight, it will be icy in

:04:53. > :04:58.places and I will be showers around with snow on some hills as well. It

:04:59. > :05:03.could be tricky for a while. But as the night goes on, those showers

:05:04. > :05:08.will ease off. The bitter wind will also drop, but with clear skies,

:05:09. > :05:12.temperatures will get around freezing. Frost and ice to startle

:05:13. > :05:16.and Christmas morning, but mostly dry. There is rain to come during

:05:17. > :05:21.the afternoon, but the morning looks pretty decent and the winds will not

:05:22. > :05:27.be as strong. Rappaport, enjoy the morning and the sunshine, maybe some

:05:28. > :05:31.snow on the hills. The rain comes up from the south, it means a wet

:05:32. > :05:34.Christmas Day for the Republic, Wales and England. Milder air will

:05:35. > :05:42.come through eventually, but as it comes up against the cold, there

:05:43. > :05:47.will be wet slow and in places. -- wet snow. Cold crisp over the North

:05:48. > :05:50.and Scotland, cold and damp tent Christmas Day across Northern

:05:51. > :05:54.Ireland. They will become milder on Christmas night and also dry as the

:05:55. > :05:58.cold, wet weather moves northward. Winds will pick up on Christmas

:05:59. > :06:04.night, so you will be windy and that's windy weather will continue

:06:05. > :06:08.into boxing day. Not as cold, not as cold as today. Lots of dry weather

:06:09. > :06:15.and sunshine in places, so not a bad day. He'll be milder still on Sunday

:06:16. > :06:16.and Monday of next week. Happy Christmas.
