:00:07. > :00:10.This is BBC Newsline with Donna Traynor.

:00:11. > :00:13.A man's been injured in the face in an attack

:00:14. > :00:17.Shortly after five o'clock this morning

:00:18. > :00:20.the 24-year-old was found in an entry off Glencairn Way

:00:21. > :00:25.It's understood his injuries aren't life-threatening.

:00:26. > :00:31.on Northern Ireland's roads last year.

:00:32. > :00:33.According to police figures that's five fewer than in 2014.

:00:34. > :00:35.Almost half of those who were killed were drivers.

:00:36. > :00:41.19 pedestrians and four motorcyclists died.

:00:42. > :00:47.Hundred of people have braved icy waters today for a New Year's dip.

:00:48. > :00:50.There were organised swims in Newscastle,

:00:51. > :00:56.and Helen's Bay, but Colletta Smith was in Islandmagee.

:00:57. > :01:05.Between the rain clouds, lots of people got out for a bracing walk at

:01:06. > :01:12.the seaside today. For some, it was very bracing indeed. This was the

:01:13. > :01:19.ninth annual New Year's Day dip. Around 100 people of all ages braved

:01:20. > :01:25.the Irish Sea to raise money for charity. This is a day when most

:01:26. > :01:34.others are glad to be warm and dry. Plenty of people today are mad

:01:35. > :01:38.enough or man enough to brave it in. It has cleared the head from last

:01:39. > :01:44.night. Don't think I will make it an annual thing but thoroughly

:01:45. > :01:51.enjoyable. It was freezing but it was good fun. It has been really

:01:52. > :01:58.good. We are going to get warmed up now. A hot toddy, possibly. It was

:01:59. > :02:08.absolutely freezing. Did you enjoy it? No. It was too cold. We're going

:02:09. > :02:14.to go home and have a nice relaxing bath, like we deserve. Hundreds

:02:15. > :02:21.stayed watching on the sidelines, holding the warm clothes for those

:02:22. > :02:27.mad enough to take a dip. But I'm told, it gets easier the longer you

:02:28. > :02:33.spend in. That certainly seemed to be the case for some. It was

:02:34. > :02:39.actually really nice. Good to see so many people here today. Very nice.

:02:40. > :02:49.The water is lovely. Ayew coming in? No thanks. Stay right here. With a

:02:50. > :02:54.big splash here, one or two little seals did get a taste for the water.

:02:55. > :02:57.A wet suit is just right. In football Linfield

:02:58. > :03:01.moved into second place They beat Crusaders 2-0

:03:02. > :03:05.at Windsor Park to cut Stephen Watson rounds up

:03:06. > :03:16.all the New Year's Day action. Crusaders haven't been beaten in 20

:03:17. > :03:22.league games. Linfield were determined to change that.

:03:23. > :03:29.Persistence from Andy Water Works secured the opening goal. Then

:03:30. > :03:45.keeper Sean O'Neill turned the ball into his own net from a corner. A 11

:03:46. > :03:51.draw at Murray point town. Rodney Brown scored a tapping winner in

:03:52. > :03:58.this game. Paul Michael Roy scored the first goal of the season after

:03:59. > :04:04.seven minutes against Glentoran. A 31 win. The game of the day was a

:04:05. > :04:16.seven goal thriller at Shamrock Park. Portadown had a 3-2 advantage

:04:17. > :04:22.but Ballymena battled back to equalise. In the last minute of the

:04:23. > :04:26.game, they produced a winner by Alan Jenkins. His second. 4-3 and a happy

:04:27. > :04:29.start to the New Year for Ballymena. The weather forecast on this

:04:30. > :04:45.New Year's Day is next 2016 proving to be a damp squib so

:04:46. > :04:48.far with more rain on the way. The weather warnings continue. We will

:04:49. > :04:55.also see the south-easterly breeze picking up. Night-time temperatures

:04:56. > :05:01.are similar to today. Into the weekend, it is going to be Chile on

:05:02. > :05:04.Saturday. We have a rain warning in place. Particularly across the

:05:05. > :05:09.eastern half of Northern Ireland where the rain will be heaviest and

:05:10. > :05:17.most persistent. We have an area of low pressure which is stalled over

:05:18. > :05:21.south-west England. It is feeding in the showers across the Irish Sea

:05:22. > :05:30.coast. Well the north-east of Northern Ireland gets the rain, for

:05:31. > :05:37.the rest of Ireland it is a drier picture for daylight hours. After

:05:38. > :05:43.the old system moves away, a new one takes its place so Sunday will be

:05:44. > :05:49.another wet day. It will bring the risk of some flooding. On Sunday,

:05:50. > :05:54.rain is much more widespread. East and west seeing plenty of rain

:05:55. > :05:57.through the day. We need a couple of weeks of dry weather but there is no

:05:58. > :06:01.sign of that arriving soon. The late news is at

:06:02. > :06:03.11.30 here on BBC One. In 2015, we laughed.

:06:04. > :06:39.THEY CACKLE We cried.

:06:40. > :06:44.You just fall in love with them. We surprised.

:06:45. > :06:48.Which one of yous was it?! Ireland's haunting beauty

:06:49. > :06:52.is legendary.
