:00:12. > :00:15.Good evening, the headlines on BBC Newsline - a murder inquiry begins

:00:16. > :00:20.after a man's body is found in north Belfast.

:00:21. > :00:24.Tough new alcohol guidelines say there's no such thing as a safe

:00:25. > :00:34.I don't think the government telling us what we are going to do is going

:00:35. > :00:36.to come into it. The Chief Medical Officer Michael

:00:37. > :00:39.McBride will be with me in A leading Muslim at centre

:00:40. > :00:43.of the court case against Pastor James McConnell speaks

:00:44. > :00:45.out about the verdict. Also on the programme,

:00:46. > :01:00.the County Armagh man whose new year We have come to Coney Island which

:01:01. > :01:02.is half the size it normally is due to the rising levels of the loch.

:01:03. > :01:11.has got off to a very happy, and wealthy start.

:01:12. > :01:15.Can Ulster go closer to the knockout stages of the European cup.

:01:16. > :01:18.And a chilly night to come with the chance of a widespread frost.

:01:19. > :01:20.Staying cold through the weekend with bright spells and wintry

:01:21. > :01:26.The man murdered in north Belfast last was 31-year-old Conor McKee.

:01:27. > :01:30.The police have revealed his body was found by his mother.

:01:31. > :01:37.It's still unclear how he died or who was behind his death.

:01:38. > :01:40.Conor McKee's body was removed from the family home

:01:41. > :01:49.He had been found by his mother in an upstairs bedroom at 10:30.

:01:50. > :01:55.This was a particularly brutal murder, and the more dramatic

:01:56. > :02:03.for Conor's mother who found him, a tragedy for his family

:02:04. > :02:10.31-year-old Conor McKee leaves behind two young

:02:11. > :02:14.At this stage, police say they are keeping an open mind

:02:15. > :02:17.about a motive for his killing but that one line

:02:18. > :02:22.Connor was on bail from prison on drugs offences.

:02:23. > :02:25.At this stage, we still don't know how this

:02:26. > :02:29.A postmortem examination is due to be carried out

:02:30. > :02:35.The police to want to hear from anyone who saw

:02:36. > :02:40.a man in and around Conor's house at around 6:15 yesterday evening.

:02:41. > :02:42.They want to hear from someone who has

:02:43. > :02:48.I'm making a specific appeal to someone who

:02:49. > :02:51.contacted police in the early hours of this morning.

:02:52. > :02:54.I would ask that person as a matter of urgency to make contact

:02:55. > :03:01.They have information that can assist our inquiry.

:03:02. > :03:04.All day, the area around Conor McKee's home has been cordoned

:03:05. > :03:10.off while the scene of his murder is examined.

:03:11. > :03:16.Very sad that the young man in his 30s should be killed

:03:17. > :03:21.It is something that has shocked everyone in the community

:03:22. > :03:25.and something that must be rightly condemned by all people.

:03:26. > :03:29.Forensic examinations at the family home are continuing this evening.

:03:30. > :03:32.Police say the more information they get, the more likely it will be

:03:33. > :03:42.New government guidance says there's no safe level when it comes

:03:43. > :03:48.A new lower recommended limit has been set and for the first time it's

:03:49. > :03:54.The guidance also says pregnant women should not take any alcohol.

:03:55. > :03:57.I'll be talking to the chief medical officer shortly but first

:03:58. > :04:06.Limits outlined today may surprise some who

:04:07. > :04:08.consider themselves moderate drinkers.

:04:09. > :04:11.The new guidelines are designed to discourage drinking

:04:12. > :04:14.every day because scientific evidence points towards the harm it

:04:15. > :04:24.Previously men could drink more than 14 units advised for women.

:04:25. > :04:29.It equates roughly to seven glasses of wine,

:04:30. > :04:34.six pints of beer or 15 single shots of spirits.

:04:35. > :04:38.The new guidance now explicitly states that no alcohol should be

:04:39. > :04:43.consumed during pregnancy and it pours cold water on suggestions that

:04:44. > :04:50.drinking small amount of alcohol has health benefits.

:04:51. > :04:56.In the media you will hear this where reports say, if you take some

:04:57. > :05:00.wine, it could be good for your heart. That has never been the

:05:01. > :05:08.medical operation -- position. The new guidance

:05:09. > :05:09.reflects not only new sciences but changes in society

:05:10. > :05:23.with two thirds of alcoholic drinks Sharing a bottle of wine between the

:05:24. > :05:27.couple is probably now binge drinking for them because that would

:05:28. > :05:30.be five units each and even if you did that a couple of times of Wake,

:05:31. > :05:31.you are coming close to the maximum limit for the week.

:05:32. > :05:44.They are unrealistic in terms of the drinking culture these days. People

:05:45. > :05:46.look at what they eat a lot more these days, they are more health

:05:47. > :05:52.conscious but when it comes to a night out, they will not limit

:05:53. > :05:57.themselves to one drink. We are Irish so publicly drink more

:05:58. > :06:05.than anybody else. 14 units and night might be a better guideline!

:06:06. > :06:07.Everything in measure and quantity. You can say that about anything. I

:06:08. > :06:08.think it's scaremongering. and drink them all in one go

:06:09. > :06:14.and it's important to have The Chief Medical Officer

:06:15. > :06:29.Michael McBride is with me. If there is no safe level, white

:06:30. > :06:32.issue the guidance at all 14 units a week? Some people will choose to

:06:33. > :06:43.drink and we have to that people might find it unacceptable risk so

:06:44. > :06:46.it is losing about six months of life over a 50 year period. Some

:06:47. > :06:51.people may say, I'm prepared to have that trade-off for what I regard to

:06:52. > :06:55.be a pleasurable experience. If we put that in context, that is the

:06:56. > :07:03.same impact as sitting watching one hour of television a day, eating to

:07:04. > :07:07.begin but he's a week or a day for 50 years. It is about risk and

:07:08. > :07:10.balance and the guidance is therefore people to look at and

:07:11. > :07:17.think and then make their own informed decisions. It is a matter

:07:18. > :07:22.of choice, it is measuring those units can be difficult for people.

:07:23. > :07:26.One pint of strong lager can be a lot more in terms of units and a

:07:27. > :07:31.normal lager and Wine Festival and strength so how do you measure? It

:07:32. > :07:34.is the piece of work that we still have to do. We're putting this kind

:07:35. > :07:39.is out for consultation until April. We're interested in the public 's

:07:40. > :07:42.views about whether it is clear and concise and allows them to make a

:07:43. > :07:48.clear decision but I agree, we still have a lot of work to do. You're

:07:49. > :07:53.working with the public consultation but how do we translate units into

:07:54. > :07:57.informing people how they can understand. Whatever way you do it,

:07:58. > :08:02.it involves coalitions and they are quite complex. It depends on the

:08:03. > :08:06.strength and it is not straightforward. A glass of wine can

:08:07. > :08:12.be anything from two units up to 3.4. Especially if you're drinking

:08:13. > :08:19.at home? What is 175 litres? Who knows what that is? Looking at this

:08:20. > :08:23.in a wider perspective, the drinking Irish can have a positive and

:08:24. > :08:37.negative connotation. How epidemic is our alcohol dependency? We have

:08:38. > :08:41.something more drinking at lower levels. Fewer children are drinking

:08:42. > :08:48.than ten years ago but it costs health service ?250 million a year.

:08:49. > :08:54.That would pay for 30,000 hip replacements, 20,000 cardiac bypass

:08:55. > :09:02.operations and apply borders. The impacts in terms of cirrhosis and

:09:03. > :09:04.cancer, it causes 6% of all cancers. Also the impact on family numbers

:09:05. > :09:08.that are affected in the communities. The cost for the

:09:09. > :09:12.criminal Justice System, the impact of alcohol and are unhealthy

:09:13. > :09:17.relationship with it here are very significant. If you are looking for

:09:18. > :09:22.wholesale change, would you like to see the day when you don't advocate

:09:23. > :09:27.smoking so you don't advocate drinking alcohol either? We are not

:09:28. > :09:33.advocating drinking, or they are saying is, people need to make

:09:34. > :09:37.informed choices. Even drinking 14 units a week, spread over more than

:09:38. > :09:45.three days, carries with it now levels of risk. Women who drink that

:09:46. > :09:53.amount of alcohol will still, we would still see 17 cases per 1,000

:09:54. > :09:59.cases of West Cancer -- breast cancer. Any amount of alcohol is

:10:00. > :10:02.particularly increases the risk. This is the new evidence, the risk

:10:03. > :10:06.associated with cancers is greater than we once thought and we haven't

:10:07. > :10:12.looked at this evidence in over 20 years. If we are looking to change

:10:13. > :10:16.habits, what part does a publican or supermarket play in changing our

:10:17. > :10:21.habits, allowing as to make that happy choice? We have worked very

:10:22. > :10:27.closely with the industry, we have taken 1 billion units of alcohol out

:10:28. > :10:32.of the UK. We have worked closely with the trade here in Northern

:10:33. > :10:37.Ireland and publicans in terms of training staff about not telling

:10:38. > :10:41.people alcohol they are intoxicated and we have worked closely with big

:10:42. > :10:45.supermarkets who are already putting calories on the side of drinks

:10:46. > :10:50.bottles of wine. It is written to the alcohol we sell actually has the

:10:51. > :10:53.units marked on the side. We need to do much, much more but we had a

:10:54. > :10:58.collaboratively should ship. There is no one magic bullet to address

:10:59. > :11:00.our and healthy relationship with alcohol. It is education,

:11:01. > :11:02.legislation and guidance to the public.

:11:03. > :11:04.You're watching BBC Newsline and there's plenty more to come,

:11:05. > :11:12.including one of Shakespeare's best known comedies gives amateur actors

:11:13. > :11:23.from Belfast the chance of a lifetime.

:11:24. > :11:25.A prominent Muslim who was at the centre of the court case

:11:26. > :11:28.against Pastor James McConnell has spoken for the first time

:11:29. > :11:35.Dr Raied Al Wazzan told BBC Newsline's Mark Simpson that he has

:11:36. > :11:39.no regrets about complaining to the police about the Pastor

:11:40. > :11:53.Cleared on all charges. But Pastor McConnell may not have had to go to

:11:54. > :11:58.court at all if it had not been for a complaint to the police from this

:11:59. > :12:03.man. Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba. So, does he now regret getting involved?

:12:04. > :12:10.Absolutely not, I will do it again if somebody puts a Muslim community,

:12:11. > :12:14.stereotyping them, I will definitely protect them. Here is the sermon

:12:15. > :12:18.that Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba and a number of others complained about.

:12:19. > :12:25.People say there are good Muslims in Britain. That may be so but I don't

:12:26. > :12:29.trust them. It's a huge implication and is it you don't trust all

:12:30. > :12:35.Muslims, that was not acceptable for us because that has lots of

:12:36. > :12:37.indications. We have lots of doctors, teachers working in this

:12:38. > :12:42.country and if you don't trust them, that is going to create disc

:12:43. > :12:46.relation against them. After his trial ended this week, Pastor

:12:47. > :12:51.McConnell clarified what he had said about Muslims. I would do it again

:12:52. > :12:58.but I would work differently I would be conscious that I was hurting

:12:59. > :13:02.innocent Muslims. I think he has learned now about this experience. I

:13:03. > :13:08.hope he will choose his words carefully. Now that the case is

:13:09. > :13:14.over, would you meet customer,? Yes, I am willing to discuss him and talk

:13:15. > :13:21.about these things. Would you shake his hand? If he wants to shake my

:13:22. > :13:26.hand and he trusts me, I will shake his hand. The court case may now be

:13:27. > :13:28.over but this might not be where the story ends.

:13:29. > :13:32.A Sinn Fein Assembly Member has agreed to apologise and pay

:13:33. > :13:36.compensation to the Ulster Unionist MP Tom Elliott over a defamatory

:13:37. > :13:41.Phil Flanagan posted the message on Twitter two years ago

:13:42. > :13:44.after Mr Elliott appeared on a BBC Radio programme.

:13:45. > :13:47.The High Court was told that the Fermanagh-South Tyrone MP

:13:48. > :13:55.has been fully vindicated and his reputation restored.

:13:56. > :13:57.Phil Flanagan sent this tweet after hearing Tom Elliott

:13:58. > :14:01.Within an hour, he deleted it but it was too late.

:14:02. > :14:03.The tweet had already been seen by 167 Twitter users

:14:04. > :14:11.Almost two years later, Phil Flanagan was in court to answer

:14:12. > :14:15.Tom Elliott told the hearing that he served in the UDR for ten

:14:16. > :14:25.He will now get an apology and compensation.

:14:26. > :14:33.The apology must also be tweeted and aired, physical -- Phil Flanagan

:14:34. > :14:35.must now accept that his tweet was untrue and wholly without

:14:36. > :14:37.foundation. It must be posted for the end of today.

:14:38. > :14:44.of compensation to be paid by Mr Flanagan.

:14:45. > :14:53.The hearing was told that insurers are refusing to pay costs or

:14:54. > :14:56.compensation in this case. That decision is now being challenged by

:14:57. > :15:07.Phil Flanagan in a separate legal action.

:15:08. > :15:14.Today we have spoken to a company which has lost 70,000 witnesses to

:15:15. > :15:17.the waters of Loch May. Rivers agency which is responsible for

:15:18. > :15:25.regular ten for what level there will appear before a storm and

:15:26. > :15:29.emitting next week. At the place they call the ban is

:15:30. > :15:33.that where the river runs into Loch me, it is beautiful but even on a

:15:34. > :15:36.calm day, there is no concealing the chaos that rising waters have

:15:37. > :15:41.caused. In the distance are huge tunnels, part of a horticulture

:15:42. > :15:45.operation and by the Donnelly family. They grow lettuce with the

:15:46. > :15:53.major supermarkets but they too have become victims of the waters. In

:15:54. > :15:56.this huge tunnel closest to the river, 70,000 of them languish in

:15:57. > :16:01.the waters, a loss to the company of thousands of pounds. They will have

:16:02. > :16:08.to be thrown out now, there is no way they could survive that. It is a

:16:09. > :16:14.complete write-off. All around the shore, the floodwaters are in

:16:15. > :16:17.packing and communities. At nearby GAA ground, it is flooded. It has

:16:18. > :16:22.not damaged the social club yet but it is a major inconvenience. With

:16:23. > :16:30.regard to social members using the club, they just have not been able

:16:31. > :16:35.to use it for this last or so. Today we got the chance to take to the

:16:36. > :16:40.flooded river, the biggest in the British Isles. We are going to

:16:41. > :16:44.deliver supplies to the warden of Coney Island who is marooned there.

:16:45. > :16:49.The island is disappearing under his feed. You can see how much the water

:16:50. > :16:54.has encroached onto the island here. Peter says and a good day, the art

:16:55. > :16:59.nine acres of Coney Island but at the moment, there is half that. The

:17:00. > :17:03.big problem is going to be the aftermath, the clean-up. A lot of

:17:04. > :17:11.litter has come and in the wash and it has come well in. There is a lot

:17:12. > :17:14.of litter and queueing up to do, some of it will be done in the

:17:15. > :17:19.assembly on Tuesday when the Rivers agency is possible for the levels of

:17:20. > :17:23.the lock will be asked some tough questions by MLAs.

:17:24. > :17:26.A day-long security alert in Londonderry has ended

:17:27. > :17:30.Some older people had to leave their homes overnight

:17:31. > :17:32.after reports that a bomb had been left in the Southway area,

:17:33. > :17:38.All the roads in the area have now re-opened.

:17:39. > :17:41.Now, many people are dreaming of picking up this weekend's record

:17:42. > :17:45.lottery jackpot but one County Armagh man's lottery dream

:17:46. > :18:02.Ross Hearst has just won a whopping ?4 million on a scratchcard.

:18:03. > :18:13.Ross is a man and one serious winning streak. ?20 in the previous

:18:14. > :18:20.shop. Then I won another ?20 in another shop. Then I changed again

:18:21. > :18:28.and won ?10, all in one day. The next day I exchanged it and that is

:18:29. > :18:34.when I won the 4 million. You must have thought, I am so lucky winning

:18:35. > :18:38.50 quid? He didn't tell me! I couldn't really keep it under my

:18:39. > :18:44.hat! The Butler scratchcard in this lurking shop. It was the last one in

:18:45. > :18:48.the screen in the shop. There were no more scratchcards. I was going to

:18:49. > :18:56.get something to eat and I turned and said, no, I will exchange the

:18:57. > :18:57.one from before. What a boost for a couple expecting their first baby in

:18:58. > :19:04.April! 2016 marks the 400th anniversary

:19:05. > :19:08.of the death of the playwright And that means that some amateur

:19:09. > :19:12.actors from Belfast are getting By day she is a human

:19:13. > :19:25.resources administrator. But an amateur actor

:19:26. > :19:28.Maggie Gorman has now been cast by the Royal Shakespeare Company

:19:29. > :19:42.to star in the production I think it's the biggest opportunity

:19:43. > :19:45.we are ever going to get. I just like the slow pace of amateur

:19:46. > :19:48.dramatics and this is one big chance to bring some real excitement into

:19:49. > :19:49.it and some real professionalism. Players who will act

:19:50. > :19:54.with professionals and they are also getting specialist help

:19:55. > :20:06.to rehearse the parts. Some actors have said that it is a

:20:07. > :20:11.deathbed moment, the moment you remember the birth of your children,

:20:12. > :20:15.your wedding day and the moment you played bottom and the RSC stage in a

:20:16. > :20:17.Midsummer nights dream! a story of love, mischief

:20:18. > :20:21.and fairies in an enchanted forest. The Belfast amateurs

:20:22. > :20:27.have some of the most important roles in this

:20:28. > :20:39.year's production. It is sometimes difficult to get on

:20:40. > :20:43.with your day job because you think, blimey in five months' time, I will

:20:44. > :20:45.be acting with the Royal Shakespeare Company. How could that happen!

:20:46. > :20:49.spartan rehearsal studio in May to perform alongside

:20:50. > :20:54.Then they take the stage at the home of the RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon.

:20:55. > :21:02.For them, 2016 really is set to be a dream year.

:21:03. > :21:07.And it's important weekend for Ulster's rugby players.

:21:08. > :21:11.They return to European action with a trip to France this Sunday.

:21:12. > :21:14.For the Champions Cup match away to Oyonnax.

:21:15. > :21:17.Director of rugby Les Kiss has made eight changes to the side

:21:18. > :21:21.Some key players are rested but Craig Gilroy

:21:22. > :21:26.Captain Rory Best is included - and says despite defeat in the last

:21:27. > :21:34.game Ulster's confidence hasn't been dented.

:21:35. > :21:41.It will be a very imposing atmosphere and it will be a very

:21:42. > :21:44.physical game. I think for us, it's important that we just stick to what

:21:45. > :21:49.has been working well for us and that has been our accuracy. At the

:21:50. > :21:52.Munster game, we had a really good run of games where we just kept the

:21:53. > :21:56.ball. We did not give it back cheaply and because teams a lot of

:21:57. > :22:00.pressure. We need to continue to do that this Sunday. There is pressure

:22:01. > :22:02.on us, which is good in that we have to go there and when everyone to

:22:03. > :22:03.stay alive in Europe. It's the fifth round of local

:22:04. > :22:06.football's Irish Cup tomorrow. There are the 16 ties in all

:22:07. > :22:09.and a chance for many of our smaller clubs to take on the more

:22:10. > :22:11.established teams. Nial Foster has been to one club

:22:12. > :22:22.which has plenty of form When you think of Holland in both,

:22:23. > :22:26.you might think of Samson and Goliath but there is a football club

:22:27. > :22:37.named after the famous yard and in recent years, the welders have

:22:38. > :22:42.become Irish cup giant killers. The championship that Glenavon added the

:22:43. > :22:46.season with the help of an Irish league veteran. They are a

:22:47. > :22:51.premiership side and we will always be the underdogs but they will get

:22:52. > :22:55.them down at our place and we will give it our best shot. If we get a

:22:56. > :23:00.win, brilliant, but it's the biggest rock you can win in this country so

:23:01. > :23:05.decides to progress as best you can. The East Belfast side one Steel and

:23:06. > :23:09.Sons Cup on Christmas Day and the 26 goals to his name already this

:23:10. > :23:23.season, the star striker is aiming for more success. We were on a high
