:00:33. > :00:37.The last time he was seen alive was Sunday afternoon

:00:38. > :00:41.The police are now trying to find out more information

:00:42. > :00:53.The sequence of events leading to the discovery of the body

:00:54. > :00:54.last night began during a routine police

:00:55. > :01:00.We can't get any more details about that operation but we know

:01:01. > :01:05.that it led police officers to come to Mr Gervin's

:01:06. > :01:07.home where his body was found

:01:08. > :01:10.Shortly afterwards, neighbours told the blues that his car

:01:11. > :01:15.The police came to the house and discovered his body.

:01:16. > :01:20.The police were conducting enquiries relating to an individual

:01:21. > :01:23.from Belfast and those enquiries led us to call routinely to the house.

:01:24. > :01:33.We were unaware at that time that Mr Gervin had been murdered.

:01:34. > :01:36.The police have now established that Eddie Girvan's car was seen

:01:58. > :01:59.This is an area that looks after its elderly.

:02:00. > :02:04.The like of this has not been seen in this area before.

:02:05. > :02:07.Tonight, two crime scenes are under investigation as the police

:02:08. > :02:14.try to find out why Eddie Girvan died and who killed him.

:02:15. > :02:16.Earlier tonight, our reporter Claire Graham spoke

:02:17. > :02:18.to the East Antrim MLA Stewart Dickson.

:02:19. > :02:32.Eddie has been known to me for all of my life. And when the primary

:02:33. > :02:37.school together, he was in the Boys' Brigade with me. I have known him

:02:38. > :02:41.living here in Greenisland all of that time. Always a very helpful,

:02:42. > :02:46.friendly person. Someone who would have gone the extra mile to help

:02:47. > :02:51.people, doing odd jobs. He was always willing when somebody needed

:02:52. > :02:55.something done in their home, a repair job at something like that.

:02:56. > :03:01.Eddie was always there to help out. He is someone for whom who I would

:03:02. > :03:07.have good memories. High is the community today? I know that there

:03:08. > :03:13.are many people in Greenisland, not only his immediate neighbours after

:03:14. > :03:18.this incredibly sad and difficult circumstance for people to

:03:19. > :03:23.understand in the last number of hours, in this community Eddie

:03:24. > :03:27.Girvan is somebody that will be remembered because of the kind deeds

:03:28. > :03:31.that he did and the friend that he was to many people.

:03:32. > :03:33.The Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, has agreed,

:03:34. > :03:36.in principle, to appear as a witness at an inquest into the death

:03:37. > :03:39.of an IRA man who was shot dead by the army.

:03:40. > :03:41.Seamus Bradley was killed in the Creggan in Londonderry

:03:42. > :03:43.in July 1972, during what was called Operation Motorman.

:03:44. > :03:46.In another incident on the same day, a 15-year-old schoolboy was also

:03:47. > :03:50.Seamus Bradley's case is one of 56 that are being reviewed

:03:51. > :03:53.Our reporter Ita Dungan was in the court.

:03:54. > :03:56.It was the summer of 1972 and the British Army were moving

:03:57. > :04:07.The army's mission was to secure what were known as "no-go areas".

:04:08. > :04:11.By the end of the day two people were dead -

:04:12. > :04:17.19-year-old Seamus Bradley and 15-year-old Daniel Hegarty.

:04:18. > :04:21.44 years on, a review into the death of Seamus Bradley took place

:04:22. > :04:28.Lord Justice Weir is assessing how much more work needs to be done

:04:29. > :04:33.before a full scale inquest can go ahead.

:04:34. > :04:36.What is very much part of that jigsaw is what were the IRA in Derry

:04:37. > :04:41.In order to find out, the Coroner's Office wrote

:04:42. > :04:46.to Martin McGuinness and Gerry Adams.

:04:47. > :04:48.In 2001, Mr McGuinness told the Bloody Sunday Inquiry

:04:49. > :04:57.that he was second in command of the IRA in Derry at the time.

:04:58. > :05:00.What this inquest is trying to find out is whether or not the meeting

:05:01. > :05:02.took place between members of the British government

:05:03. > :05:13.They want to know if that meeting took place, what may or may not have

:05:14. > :05:16.been said and whether or not the IRA is to decide their operations

:05:17. > :05:20.In response to that request, Martin McGuinness' solicitor

:05:21. > :05:22.appeared at today's hearing promising Mr McGuinness' full

:05:23. > :05:38.It will take the form of the statement, and we will decide F

:05:39. > :05:41.it'll be a witness statement. Do you think it is likely that

:05:42. > :05:43.Martin McGuinness will appear That is a matter for

:05:44. > :05:46.the coroner to determine. Certainly Martin McGuinness has made

:05:47. > :05:49.it clear he will cooperate Giving an update on the MoD's

:05:50. > :05:52.readiness to proceed with the inquest, the army's legal

:05:53. > :05:54.representative said the MoD "could not locate any

:05:55. > :05:56.records of such a meeting." Going on to say they would now

:05:57. > :05:59.check, "the National Archives to see In response, Lord Justice Weir said,

:06:00. > :06:03."We all know there were meetings Gerry Kelly may be asked to give

:06:04. > :06:20.evidence into the inquest of the killing of Gareth O'Connor,

:06:21. > :06:31.the dissident Republican, in 2003. His family claimed that Mr Kelly

:06:32. > :06:34.told them that they that he had spoken to the Provisional IRA

:06:35. > :06:37.about the killing and was told Family and friends of the teenager

:06:38. > :06:41.who died in a fire at the weekend gathered at her funeral

:06:42. > :06:44.in Castlewellan earlier today. 18-year-old Ellen Finnegan lived

:06:45. > :06:46.in a flat above her father's shop. Castlewellan fell silent to remember

:06:47. > :06:57.a beloved member of the community. Ellen Finnegan lived

:06:58. > :06:59.and died in the flat Today, Bartley Finnegan walked

:07:00. > :07:07.behind his daughter to Requiem Mass at St Malachy's Church,

:07:08. > :07:12.accompanied by schoolfriends from Assumption Grammar

:07:13. > :07:14.in Ballynahinch and team mates During the service she was

:07:15. > :07:19.remembered as bright, vivacious, talented,

:07:20. > :07:21.full of hope and already making I know how Bartley cherishes

:07:22. > :07:31.the last conversation he had I believe it is a special

:07:32. > :07:44.grace for you, Bartley, She wished you a good holiday

:07:45. > :07:56.and added, "I love you, Afterwards, Ellen was taken

:07:57. > :08:12.through the town before being laid to rest at the family burial

:08:13. > :08:22.ground in Aughlisnafin. Belfast City Council has this

:08:23. > :08:24.evening given planning permission for more than 1,000 student

:08:25. > :08:26.apartments opposite the Ulster University's new campus

:08:27. > :08:28.on the northern edge The larger of the projects consists

:08:29. > :08:34.of nearly 600 en suite bedrooms Our Economics and Business Editor,

:08:35. > :08:51.John Campbell, was at Belfast City These two developments at graduation

:08:52. > :08:55.sites on your Street and great Patrick Street just opposite the new

:08:56. > :08:58.Ulster University campus. They will house more than a thousand students

:08:59. > :09:03.when completed and they will not be the last of the sorts of

:09:04. > :09:09.applications to be considered. In fact, there are 11 applications

:09:10. > :09:13.currently in the system which could give a few thousand student rooms.

:09:14. > :09:20.Some believe that could lead to oversupply. One developer said that

:09:21. > :09:24.even if every scheme is approved it would only bring Belfast up to the

:09:25. > :09:31.standard of other UK university cities. If Belfast went ahead with

:09:32. > :09:38.all 16 projects and planning at the moment, that would give Belfast 23%

:09:39. > :09:42.of student accommodation which was managed student accommodation as a

:09:43. > :09:46.total of the whole student population. It would still be way

:09:47. > :09:52.behind other UK cities and they don't see Belfast really being any

:09:53. > :09:56.different than any other UK cities. The new University campus should be

:09:57. > :10:00.fully operational in 28 team, so developers will want to begin work

:10:01. > :10:04.shortly. I understand building work to get underway during the summer.

:10:05. > :10:06.Meanwhile, planning permission has also been granted

:10:07. > :10:09.for the development of two more hotels in Belfast city centre.

:10:10. > :10:12.An extension of the Ten Square Hotel on the corner of Linenhall Street

:10:13. > :10:15.and Donegall Square South will create an additional 46 rooms,

:10:16. > :10:18.while a 179-bedroom new build hotel in Hope Street has also been given

:10:19. > :10:25.Garda have identified the man whose body found in a suitcase

:10:26. > :10:29.in the Grand Canal in County Kildare.

:10:30. > :10:33.Kenneth O'Brien was 33-years-old and from Clondalkin in West Dublin.

:10:34. > :10:38.It is believed he went missing on Friday.

:10:39. > :10:40.The suitcase was spotted in the water by two people walking

:10:41. > :10:49.along the canal bank near Ardclough Bridge on Saturday.

:10:50. > :11:00.Kenneth O'Brien was a normal man going about his business, pursuing

:11:01. > :11:01.his employment, trying to get some work and he has been brutally

:11:02. > :11:02.murdered. Blackmailers have targeted several

:11:03. > :11:04.men here who were encouraged to perform sex acts

:11:05. > :11:06.over the internet. The criminals recorded them

:11:07. > :11:08.and threatened to publish the videos on social media if the men didn't

:11:09. > :11:12.pay money into an account in West The police say some

:11:13. > :11:16.of them paid the money. There's an interview with the police

:11:17. > :11:18.on Good Morning Ulster on BBC Radio Ulster

:11:19. > :11:23.just after 8.30am. Football and the Irish Cup holders,

:11:24. > :11:26.Glentoran, are through to the next round of the competition

:11:27. > :11:28.after beating Ards 4-1.The night belonged to Glentoran's recent

:11:29. > :11:34.signing Chris Lavery, who collected the match ball

:11:35. > :11:37.after scoring a hat-trick in a game In tonight's other Fifth Round tie,

:11:38. > :11:45.Knockbreda beat Annagh United 5-1. In the Premiership, Ballymena United

:11:46. > :11:48.beat Carrick Rangers 1-0 and Warrenpoint Town

:11:49. > :11:53.beat Portadown 2-0. Now, with the weather

:11:54. > :12:04.forecast, here's Barra Best. It is a largely dry night to come

:12:05. > :12:09.with a lot of cloud. That cloud will help many places they above

:12:10. > :12:19.freezing. Whether cloud does break there will be ice and pockets of fog

:12:20. > :12:23.developing. The fault could be thick in the south. Further north it

:12:24. > :12:27.should not be too much of a problem. A foggy staff are some of us but

:12:28. > :12:30.overwrought tomorrow it will be largely dry. Any fog should give

:12:31. > :12:35.away to clearer conditions through the morning, but before then it

:12:36. > :12:40.could cause some issues on the road for drivers during the commuter

:12:41. > :12:44.period. Otherwise, it is not a bad day across Britain and Ireland.

:12:45. > :12:49.Largely dried, chilly for some parts after a clear sky night, but through

:12:50. > :12:56.the afternoon many places will enjoy sunshine. Across Ireland, we have

:12:57. > :13:03.milder air, so temperatures should reach seven or eight degrees. The

:13:04. > :13:08.wind should be light, but to feel fresh and the County Down coast.

:13:09. > :13:11.Tomorrow evening, we hold on the clearer skies would will turn chilly

:13:12. > :13:14.for a while, but overnight in the clearer skies would will turn chilly

:13:15. > :13:18.for a while, but overnight in the weather stayed the cloud will

:13:19. > :13:22.thicken up, bringing wet weather, those temperatures above the normal

:13:23. > :13:26.for the time of year. It will be wetter times over the weekend, but

:13:27. > :13:28.they they temperatures
