:03:45. > :03:46.I was asking many of the children today about

:03:51. > :03:54.fun, enjoyed chasing people around the playground,

:03:55. > :03:58.a bit of a rascal in the best sense, so in his six years he certainly had

:05:34. > :05:37.The family of a man shot dead by a soldier in County Tyrone nearly

:05:38. > :05:39.30 years ago has welcomed a review of a decision not

:05:40. > :05:43.Aidan McAnespie, a 23-year-old Catholic,

:05:44. > :05:47.was shot as he walked through a border checkpoint in 1988.

:05:48. > :05:52.Here's our home affairs correspondent Vincent Kearney:

:05:53. > :05:59.This army checkpoint was the scene of one of the most controversial

:06:00. > :06:02.Aidan McAnespie was shot dead as he what

:06:03. > :06:09.He was hit by one of the bullets fired from an army machine gun.

:06:10. > :06:14.His family claim he was deliberately targeted after sustained harassment.

:06:41. > :06:46.The public prosecution service has now told the family it is reviewing

:06:47. > :06:53.the decision not to prosecute the soldier.

:06:54. > :06:56.We welcome that decision and fuel the original decision was wrong.

:06:57. > :07:01.They left a lot of evidence that could

:07:02. > :07:07.All we can do is just be hopeful that

:07:08. > :07:11.something is going to come out of this.

:07:12. > :07:14.We are more hopeful now than 20 years ago.

:07:15. > :07:18.That confidence is shared by the family lawyers.

:07:19. > :07:21.We are very confident that the families will get

:07:22. > :07:25.the correct decision that they have been campaigning for for many years.

:07:26. > :07:30.The evidence we have submitted simply makes it indisputable that

:07:31. > :07:34.Aidan McAnespie was killed deliberately.

:07:35. > :07:36.One year after the report challenged the soldier's

:07:37. > :07:41.version of events the government apologised to the family describing

:07:42. > :07:45.the shooting as a matter of deep regret.

:07:46. > :07:51.The family would like to make it a point to the British Army

:07:52. > :08:00.Nearly 30 years after the shooting, Aidan

:08:01. > :08:03.McAnespie's family say they hope to have decision from the PPS

:08:04. > :08:12.The Glennane gang was a notorious loyalist group thought to have

:08:13. > :08:13.killed 120 people during the troubles.

:08:14. > :08:17.But a senior judge warned today that the coroner's court may not be

:08:18. > :08:20.the place to deal with such a complex case.

:08:21. > :08:23.The gang was claimed to have recruited members not only

:08:24. > :08:26.from the UVF but also the RUC and UDR.

:08:27. > :08:29.40 years on and an inquest review hearing into the deaths of two

:08:30. > :08:32.of their victims was told it may be up to the government to decide

:08:33. > :08:43.The family of Betty McDonald want the truth established.

:08:44. > :08:50.It should be a matter of time and it should be happening as a part of the

:08:51. > :08:55.process. It is important not just for everyone else but everybody else

:08:56. > :09:03.in the Glennane gang that it does come out. We have to get the RUC to

:09:04. > :09:06.talk but they are hiding. They did not act on the night my wife was

:09:07. > :09:07.murdered. The main parties at Stormont

:09:08. > :09:10.and the British Ambassador in Dublin are to be invited to

:09:11. > :09:12.the Irish Government's official ceremony to mark the centenary

:09:13. > :09:14.of the Easter Rising. The DUP have already said they'll

:09:15. > :09:30.not be attending the event, The Irish government has already

:09:31. > :09:35.started remembering the 1916 rising with this ceremony on New Year's

:09:36. > :09:40.Day. The next major event is the official commemoration in March and

:09:41. > :09:44.all the party leaders at Stormont Committee to be invited. We will

:09:45. > :09:47.have the normal invitations and it will go to the leaders of the

:09:48. > :09:52.different parties here in Northern Ireland. The invitation will be

:09:53. > :09:56.issued there. As far as heads of state are concerned, there was no

:09:57. > :09:59.plans to invite heads of state but there will be the usual

:10:00. > :10:07.representation in terms of ambassadors and all of that. She got

:10:08. > :10:14.her own invitation today to address a Presbyterian conference in Belfast

:10:15. > :10:18.which explored the legacy of this rising. She is at Presbyterian from

:10:19. > :10:24.Monaghan and said she wanted the 1916 events to be inclusive but the

:10:25. > :10:28.new DUP leader, Arlene Foster, has already said she would be at the

:10:29. > :10:33.main commemoration. Is the Minister disappointed? I am pleased that

:10:34. > :10:37.Arlene has said she will come to some event at some stage and perhaps

:10:38. > :10:43.something like we have had today, like a conference around 1916. There

:10:44. > :10:47.are different events happening right across the year and I am sure there

:10:48. > :10:52.will be something that she will be able to attend. Here's one idea the

:10:53. > :10:58.new First Minister might consider. There is a special event that is the

:10:59. > :11:02.unveiling of a wall in which everyone who died, not just those

:11:03. > :11:07.who were involved in the uprising, but members of the British Armed

:11:08. > :11:11.Forces, civilians, everyone is involved and remembered and they are

:11:12. > :11:20.listed in the better colour order. That is significant and there will

:11:21. > :11:25.be special commemorative representatives. 2016 is turning

:11:26. > :11:28.into a year and not just of commemorations but invitations.

:11:29. > :11:30.A look ahead to something on tomorrow night's BBC Newsline,

:11:31. > :11:32.and our Agriculture and Environment Correspondent Conor Macauley has

:11:33. > :11:35.been on the trail of a majestic bird of prey.

:11:36. > :11:37.The Red Kite was reintroduced to Co Down a couple

:11:38. > :11:40.of years back and is slowly making a return.

:11:41. > :11:42.Conor spent the evening with volunteers who monitor

:11:43. > :11:46.the population to make sure the birds, which will soon be mating

:11:47. > :11:50.and nesting, are thriving in the hills around the Mournes.

:11:51. > :11:56.That's on BBC Newsline tomorrow night at 6.30.

:11:57. > :12:12.We have some heavy rain on the way tonight. The Met office has issued a

:12:13. > :12:15.severe weather warning for parts of County Down and Armagh. The rain is

:12:16. > :12:20.in force from midnight until eight o'clock tomorrow morning. That rain

:12:21. > :12:24.will be out of the way by the time we get to breakfast time and Friday

:12:25. > :12:28.is looking like a decent day with a mixture of sunshine and showers. The

:12:29. > :12:33.rain clearing a stand behind it we are into some more milder air and

:12:34. > :12:36.some brighter conditions. You can see the band of rain that we have

:12:37. > :12:41.seen through the night brushing off into the North Sea during the day.

:12:42. > :12:47.Behind it, warmer air means double digit temperatures. The breeze is

:12:48. > :12:50.quite strong pushing some showers in for western Scotland and Northern

:12:51. > :12:53.Ireland through the afternoon. We keep some clear skies and

:12:54. > :13:00.temperatures will be cooler than they were tonight. With that breeze,

:13:01. > :13:04.there is no risk of any frost developing overnight. As we head

:13:05. > :13:08.into Saturday, it will be another decent day and a mix of sunshine and

:13:09. > :13:13.showers. The breeze will be a feature as we go through the day.

:13:14. > :13:17.Write to begin with but the next band of rain is on its way, working

:13:18. > :13:25.its way in from the south-west. Temperatures are holding up and buy

:13:26. > :13:28.some days, we will see highs of 13 Celsius which is different to last

:13:29. > :13:30.weekend when we had snow on the ground. That is it from us. Good

:13:31. > :13:38.night. Patrick Kielty travels

:13:39. > :13:42.one of America's most iconic roads...
