:00:00. > :00:00.BBC Scotland. Good evening.

:00:00. > :00:00.for the news where you are. The police have started a fresh

:00:07. > :00:09.search for the body of a young woman, Lisa Dorrian,

:00:10. > :00:11.who was reported Following new information officers

:00:12. > :00:16.moved into an area near Comber 25-year-old Lisa Dorrian

:00:17. > :00:22.from Bangor hasn't been seen since going to a party at a holiday

:00:23. > :00:30.caravan park 11 years ago. It is believed she was murdered

:00:31. > :00:34.but her body has yet to be found. This morning the police cordoned off

:00:35. > :00:37.an area of farmland on the outskirts of Comber and specialist search

:00:38. > :00:44.teams moved in to begin a sweep. In a statement, the PSNI's

:00:45. > :00:47.Serious Crime Branch said that this latest operation is a result

:00:48. > :00:52.of new information being Detectives say that information has

:00:53. > :00:56.been provided by someone who is not The police say the search

:00:57. > :01:01.will involve significant This isn't the first time this piece

:01:02. > :01:08.of land has been searched by police In 2012, hydraulic diggers

:01:09. > :01:15.were brought here as police searched for a car believed to have been used

:01:16. > :01:19.in her murder. At that time, there was no sign

:01:20. > :01:23.of a young woman's body. This morning the police and search

:01:24. > :01:26.teams arrived here in numbers and began a fresh search

:01:27. > :01:31.of the farmland. This operation, which is expected

:01:32. > :01:33.to last several days, is the latest in a long-running

:01:34. > :01:38.and extensive investigation. It will include the use of search

:01:39. > :01:41.teams, body recovery dogs, ground probes and other

:01:42. > :01:45.specialist equipment. While this general area was searched

:01:46. > :01:49.in 2012 when police were looking for a vehicle, this time the search

:01:50. > :01:52.is concentrating on a different section of farmland and research

:01:53. > :02:02.teams are looking for human remains. The inquest began today

:02:03. > :02:04.into the death of another young woman whose body has

:02:05. > :02:06.never been found. Arlene Arkinson, who was 15

:02:07. > :02:08.and from Castlederg, was last seen with child killer

:02:09. > :02:11.Robert Howard when she disappeared He was later acquitted of her murder

:02:12. > :02:15.and died in prison last year. Last week, just three days before

:02:16. > :02:18.the inquest, it was revealed that the government was allowing

:02:19. > :02:20.the police to withhold documents 22 years after she disappeared,

:02:21. > :02:26.her family were looking to find She was the blue-eyed

:02:27. > :02:36.girl of the family. I want people to know

:02:37. > :02:45.the real Arlene. In court, the coroner heard that

:02:46. > :02:48.Arlene was a bright but vulnerable girl who had been sexually abused

:02:49. > :02:50.by her brother-in-law On the night when she disappeared

:02:51. > :02:58.she told them she might be pregnant. Witnesses say that night Arlene

:02:59. > :03:01.was the last of a group of friends to be dropped home after

:03:02. > :03:05.a night out in Donegal. The driver was Robert

:03:06. > :03:08.Howard, then in his 50s. He was acquitted of her murder

:03:09. > :03:12.in 2005 but that jury could not be The court heard that he was

:03:13. > :03:18.an extremely dangerous man capable He had a string of convictions

:03:19. > :03:25.for rape and serious sexual assault, was out on bail at the time

:03:26. > :03:27.of her disappearance and was the last person to be

:03:28. > :03:31.seen with her alive. All the information about the police

:03:32. > :03:34.investigation may not be heard. The PSNI have asked for a immunity

:03:35. > :03:38.certificate to withhold details There are usually only issued

:03:39. > :03:44.in terrorism cases. The family can't understand why one

:03:45. > :03:53.would be issued in this inquest. There's absolutely no

:03:54. > :03:58.reason for it whatsoever. As far as can see, unless some

:03:59. > :04:01.justification can be brought before the court, because ultimately

:04:02. > :04:08.the judge will have the final say. The police say these applications

:04:09. > :04:11.are made in all kinds of cases and although they're committed

:04:12. > :04:14.to transparency that must be balanced with their obligation

:04:15. > :04:17.to maintain the integrity of the methods with which police

:04:18. > :04:20.conduct complex and challenging The full court papers were served

:04:21. > :04:27.today so the judge hasn't yet made a decision about whether or not

:04:28. > :04:29.to withhold information Robert Howard died while serving his

:04:30. > :04:34.prison sentence for the murder of a girl in England years

:04:35. > :04:39.after her disappearance. As this case continues, the family

:04:40. > :04:47.carry their questions with them. The funeral has taken place

:04:48. > :04:49.in Dublin of the man murdered It's believed David Byrne's death

:04:50. > :04:55.was part of a gangland feud which led to another man being shot

:04:56. > :04:59.dead last week. Our Dublin correspondent

:05:00. > :05:14.Shane Harrison reports. David Byrne, who lived near here,

:05:15. > :05:16.was a 33-year-old partner, He was murdered by at least six

:05:17. > :05:20.gunmen at a boxing weigh-in at the Regency airport

:05:21. > :05:22.hotel earlier this month. It was believed to have been carried

:05:23. > :05:25.out by a rival criminal gang linked David Byrne was a major player

:05:26. > :05:30.in a drugs gang. Several members of the Spanish-based

:05:31. > :05:35.family were present. There was also a heavy security

:05:36. > :05:39.presence at this church but no trouble was reported

:05:40. > :05:42.despite the tension, The murdered man was buried this

:05:43. > :05:51.afternoon in the presence of family The funeral of Eddie Hutch Sr,

:05:52. > :06:00.who is believed to have been shot dead in retaliation,

:06:01. > :06:05.has yet to take place. It is expected to happen on Friday

:06:06. > :06:16.with a similar Gardai operation. The First Minister is to attend

:06:17. > :06:19.a Church of Ireland event to commemorate the Easter Rising

:06:20. > :06:22.centenary in Dublin later this week. In a statement tonight,

:06:23. > :06:25.Arlene Foster said that Wednesday night's event in Christchurch

:06:26. > :06:27.Cathedral wasn't a commemoration but in line with the type of event

:06:28. > :06:35.she would be happy to attend. A 56-year-old grandmother has been

:06:36. > :06:39.charged with the murder of a man who died after a gun attack

:06:40. > :06:43.in the Divis area of Belfast. As Maggie Taggart reports,

:06:44. > :06:57.the woman's husband has already been Edward Gibson was a 28 your old

:06:58. > :07:03.father of one. He was shot in the stomach and thigh in an alleyway in

:07:04. > :07:09.October 20 14. He died in hospital the next day. In court today was 56

:07:10. > :07:14.old Margaret Goodman from Balla Murphy parade in Belfast. She is

:07:15. > :07:17.charged with the murder and is also accused of possessing a firearm and

:07:18. > :07:20.ammunition in suspicious circumstances. Her solicitor said

:07:21. > :07:24.she had been arrested and interviewed by the police last year

:07:25. > :07:30.and released without charge. The court heard that new game a evidence

:07:31. > :07:33.has come to light but is a defence solicitor called it one piece of

:07:34. > :07:37.circumstantial DNA. They choose woman had been arrested after going

:07:38. > :07:42.to the police voluntarily. Police opposed bail for Mrs Goodman, whose

:07:43. > :07:47.husband is already charged with the murder. An officer said there was a

:07:48. > :07:50.risk she could abscond. Her solicitor described her as a mother

:07:51. > :07:54.of seven and a grandmother of 20 with strong link to the community.

:07:55. > :07:59.There was granted but she will have to wear an electronic tag abide by a

:08:00. > :08:01.curfew and agree not to talk to witnesses.

:08:02. > :08:04.With farm incomes at their lowest in a decade, young farmers

:08:05. > :08:07.are going overseas to find work in the industry.

:08:08. > :08:11.Jobs like milking cows in the Middle East and helping out

:08:12. > :08:14.with the English harvest are increasingly the only options

:08:15. > :08:26.He has a contract with a major supermarket and isn't in debt

:08:27. > :08:30.to the banks but he too has seen his income tumble.

:08:31. > :08:36.He says his profit from each of these animals is down by ?100.

:08:37. > :08:39.That means that belts must be tightened across the board.

:08:40. > :08:42.It also means he can't afford to pay a decent wage to his 20-year-old

:08:43. > :08:48.son, who like many of his friends is leaving to look for work.

:08:49. > :08:51.There are lots of people I know whose sons and daughters have left.

:08:52. > :08:55.I know one guy who wanted to milk cows.

:08:56. > :09:05.They come here to find staff because the boys can work.

:09:06. > :09:07.At home Robert might make ?100 a week.

:09:08. > :09:10.In England working long hours in silage in the harvest he'll make

:09:11. > :09:15.It is a no-brainer from a financial standpoint but that doesn't make

:09:16. > :09:23.I want to go and get experience doing all different things.

:09:24. > :09:28.Bigger farms, but I have to leave my dad and

:09:29. > :09:36.The income figures show just how tight it is on family farms.

:09:37. > :09:39.Mixed farms where people have a couple of different interests

:09:40. > :09:49.Still back at a quarter of last year.

:09:50. > :09:53.Beef and sheep farms like here, they are getting by on around

:09:54. > :10:02.And dairy farms, people there are struggling to get

:10:03. > :10:06.by on an average income of around ?10,000.

:10:07. > :10:10.A drop of 78% on last year's figures.

:10:11. > :10:14.That's reflected in farm families looking for help.

:10:15. > :10:16.Whether it's 30,000 overdraft or 200,000 overdraft,

:10:17. > :10:18.we're finding across-the-board lots of problems.

:10:19. > :10:21.And in an election year, this will be a key issue

:10:22. > :10:29.There's no question it will be on the lips of every farming family.

:10:30. > :10:35.There's lots of apathy and despair about the downturn in farming.

:10:36. > :10:37.The industry believes it has a long-term future.

:10:38. > :10:41.It's finding solutions to cash-flow challenges that are

:10:42. > :10:50.Athletes who competed and won medals in last year's Special Olympics have

:10:51. > :10:54.been honoured at Belfast City Hall tonight.

:10:55. > :10:58.88 sportsmen and women went to the games in Los Angeles

:10:59. > :11:02.and brought home 19 medals, five of them gold and nine silver.

:11:03. > :11:05.The athletes, their coaches, family and volunteers were invited

:11:06. > :11:08.to a civic reception to celebrate their success.

:11:09. > :11:30.I went out there, had some fun and try to win a medal for Coleraine in

:11:31. > :11:34.Belfast. I went for table tennis. Singles. The atmosphere was good but

:11:35. > :11:37.it was very warm. Had to keep drinking loads of fluids.

:11:38. > :11:39.In tonight's Irish Premiership matches there were wins

:11:40. > :11:40.for Glentoran, Ballinmallard, and Dungannon Swifts.

:11:52. > :11:55.The weather is next with Angie Phillips.

:11:56. > :12:04.Hello. A lovely start the week, if not chilly. As usual, things are

:12:05. > :12:07.going to change. We have a couple of wet and windy spells heading our

:12:08. > :12:11.way. The first tomorrow, the next towards the end of the week. In

:12:12. > :12:16.between it'll become drier again through the middle part of the week

:12:17. > :12:21.but it will also be that bit chilly. It has been a cold start of the

:12:22. > :12:24.night, frosting places but it's only temporary. We'll have increasing

:12:25. > :12:28.amounts of cloud, breeze picking up from the south and as a result the

:12:29. > :12:35.bridges will rise. Tomorrow, Atlantic weather it systems had our

:12:36. > :12:39.way. Tightly packed isobars show strengthening winds. The word go, it

:12:40. > :12:45.will be pretty and eventually it will turn wet as well. It will be a

:12:46. > :12:47.mainly dry start the day and could be deceptively bright freight time

:12:48. > :12:53.across parts of the East but cloud will gather and rain is on the way.

:12:54. > :12:57.That rain the whole island of Ireland as we had through the day.

:12:58. > :13:02.Wet and windy for western Scotland, then it is now in the hills. There

:13:03. > :13:07.could be some travel disruption here. Probably not reaching the East

:13:08. > :13:12.of Scotland until the evening time and for much of England and Wales

:13:13. > :13:15.it's mainly dry. For Northern Ireland, not very the afternoon, wet

:13:16. > :13:20.and windy, heavy and persistent bursts of rain not very pleasant on

:13:21. > :13:23.the roads. Eyes of a degree is the feeling cooler in the wind and rain.

:13:24. > :13:25.That rain moves away later tomorrow night. A bit drier but chilly for

:13:26. > :13:28.Wednesday.
