:00:11. > :00:13.The case against a man accused of murdering 29 people

:00:14. > :00:15.in the Real IRA bombing in Omagh has collapsed.

:00:16. > :00:17.Seamus Daly, from Jonesborough in County Armagh,

:00:18. > :00:26.This report from our home affairs correspondent Vincent Kearney.

:00:27. > :00:31.Seamus Daly was released from Maghaberry prison this afternoon. He

:00:32. > :00:43.was not happy to be greeted by the media. He's spent almost two years

:00:44. > :00:46.in custody charged with the Omagh bombing and other offences. He was

:00:47. > :00:50.in court in all my last week for a hearing to decide if there is enough

:00:51. > :00:59.evidence for the case against him to present. Today a prosecution lawyer

:01:00. > :01:06.announced that the actor to that question was not. The case was built

:01:07. > :01:10.on evidence from a witness. A judge who heard evidence about the case

:01:11. > :01:16.last week was due to announce today if it would continue, but the

:01:17. > :01:20.decision was taken out of his hands when a lawyer said the case no

:01:21. > :01:23.longer met the test for prosecution. The prosecution had relied on a star

:01:24. > :01:31.witness to link Seamus Healy to mobile phone used widely Omagh

:01:32. > :01:35.bombers. During court hearings last week he conceded that he may have

:01:36. > :01:38.been misleading and that the call could have taken place a week

:01:39. > :01:44.earlier. At that point the prosecuted case effectively fell

:01:45. > :01:48.apart. Relatives of some of those who were killed in the Omagh bombing

:01:49. > :01:51.were in court when it was announced that the charges against Seamus Daly

:01:52. > :01:56.were being withdrawn. Afterwards they said they were frustrated and

:01:57. > :02:02.angry. We just feel this was the last chance for justice for,, and

:02:03. > :02:14.that is no over. -- for Omagh, and that is no over. It is very

:02:15. > :02:19.difficult to deal with. They also said they had had serious concerns

:02:20. > :02:25.about the key witness and question the decision to take the case to

:02:26. > :02:29.court on the basis of his evidence. If these people have read all the

:02:30. > :02:33.statements and compared them, I don't know, I think they are in the

:02:34. > :02:39.wrong job. Seamus Daly's solicitor also questioned the decision to take

:02:40. > :02:40.the case to court and said that the prosecution service and police have

:02:41. > :02:45.questions to answer. prosecution service and police have

:02:46. > :02:51.against the defendant Seamus Daly was based on a house of straw. 29

:02:52. > :02:56.people were killed when a bomb weighing almost one quarter of

:02:57. > :02:57.devastated Omagh town centre in August 19 88.

:02:58. > :03:04.devastated Omagh town centre in were also injured in the blast just

:03:05. > :03:05.four months after the signing of the Good Friday Agreement. No one has

:03:06. > :03:08.been convicted of involvement Good Friday Agreement. No one has

:03:09. > :03:10.attack and relatives of those killed Good Friday Agreement. No one has

:03:11. > :03:11.don't believe anyone ever will be. The public

:03:12. > :03:17.don't believe anyone ever will be. there are no ongoing lines of

:03:18. > :03:23.enquiry and no indications that the police intend to submit any new

:03:24. > :03:27.finds at this stage. Nearly 18 years after the single worst atrocity

:03:28. > :03:28.finds at this stage. Nearly 18 years the troubles, the likelihood of

:03:29. > :03:32.convicting the killer more remote than ever.

:03:33. > :03:34.Many relatives now believe this will be the last time anyone appears

:03:35. > :03:37.in court accused of carrying out the Omagh bombing.

:03:38. > :03:40.The Director of Public Prosecutions said he had great sympathy

:03:41. > :03:44.with the families and shared their disappointment.

:03:45. > :03:47.Among those killed was 16-year-old Alan Radford.

:03:48. > :03:51.His sister Claire spoke to us earlier.

:03:52. > :04:03.I was 15 when it happened. I was Robert, as I would say, of my youth

:04:04. > :04:10.-- I was robbed. It has consumed so much of family life, from my mum to

:04:11. > :04:15.my sisters, the rest of them, it consumes so much of our time that 18

:04:16. > :04:21.years has been doubling. Personally I think that if the last man that

:04:22. > :04:25.will be within the court. The sense of justice has never really been

:04:26. > :04:33.there for myself and the majority of my family feel the same. So it is

:04:34. > :04:42.just moving on from this to know that there is never going to be a

:04:43. > :04:46.definite closure or a definite conviction is... Really just have to

:04:47. > :04:51.leave it and be able to... I wouldn't say except it, but to be

:04:52. > :04:53.able just to live with it. -- I wouldn't say I accept it.

:04:54. > :04:56.A man's been killed in a house fire in County Down.

:04:57. > :04:58.It happened on the Legannany Road in Loughbrickland this afternoon.

:04:59. > :04:59.It's believed to have been accidental.

:05:00. > :05:02.Police investigating the murder of Stephen Carson in South Belfast

:05:03. > :05:04.last Thursday have charged a 39-year-old man with possession

:05:05. > :05:06.of a firearm in suspicious circumstances.

:05:07. > :05:08.The 28-year-old was shot at his house in Walmer Street

:05:09. > :05:10.in front of his partner and young son.

:05:11. > :05:14.at Belfast Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

:05:15. > :05:19.Two men appeared in court today charged with murder.

:05:20. > :05:24.The DUP MP Sammy Wilson has been filmed appearing to agree

:05:25. > :05:26.with the comment "get the ethnics out."

:05:27. > :05:28.Mr Wilson was taking part in a BBC Spotlight programme

:05:29. > :05:32.when he had a conversation with a man off-camera.

:05:33. > :05:46.Last month Sammy Wilson and I were filming for tonight's BBC Spotlight

:05:47. > :05:49.documentary about the EU referendum. Sammy Wilson, who was wearing a

:05:50. > :05:54.personal microphone, had a conversation with a member of the

:05:55. > :05:59.public out of my earshot. They were doing a programme of on the BBC

:06:00. > :06:07.about staying in the European Union. I'm going round talking to people. I

:06:08. > :06:18.say get out of it. Get the Fx out too. Absolutely. Spot asked the man

:06:19. > :06:25.while he appear to agree with the man's comment. He said they were

:06:26. > :06:34.having a laugh. He said I am not prepared to spend any more time

:06:35. > :06:40.giving interviews responding to the buyer 's political slant of your

:06:41. > :06:45.programme. -- the biased political slant. Make Nesbitt said he found

:06:46. > :06:51.the exchange stomach churning. In a statement this morning the DUP said

:06:52. > :06:57.that the phrase was disgraceful and it this associated the party from

:06:58. > :07:00.the member of the public's comment. This afternoon Sammy Wilson said he

:07:01. > :07:05.was agreeing with the man's comment on the European Union and not with

:07:06. > :07:09.what he said about ethnic minorities. I agree with the comment

:07:10. > :07:15.he made about leaving the EU. I was not agreeing with the comments which

:07:16. > :07:19.he made about the ethnic communities. I don't have anything

:07:20. > :07:23.to withdraw, because I didn't agree with them. Tonight's spotlight is on

:07:24. > :07:28.BBC One at 10:45pm. You may have seen pictures

:07:29. > :07:30.of the continuing demolition of shelters in the migrant

:07:31. > :07:32.camp in Calais. We've been talking to a family

:07:33. > :07:35.from Portadown who spent a week The family, who travelled

:07:36. > :07:38.with a church group, included four children,

:07:39. > :07:40.one of them aged nine. BBC Newsline's Tara Mills has been

:07:41. > :07:52.talking to the family A child's body abandoned, unable to

:07:53. > :07:59.continue its journey because of the deep mud. -- a child's pram

:08:00. > :08:05.abandoned. It was a normal life that this family left, including the

:08:06. > :08:12.youngest child Michael who is only nine. It was scary seeing everybody

:08:13. > :08:18.in the tense and all the snow. It wasn't very nice to see all the

:08:19. > :08:29.things on the ground, very muddy. I was very sad for them. It felt good

:08:30. > :08:45.to help them. I give them water and tea and Coffey. We got to play with

:08:46. > :08:51.another boy. His name was Sam. Mum Pauline defended the decision to

:08:52. > :08:56.take her. Children can do a lot. Because of her dad has been out

:08:57. > :09:00.before before Christmas time and knew it was safe for us all to go

:09:01. > :09:05.out, I was quite happy. Plus I always had her by my side. I didn't

:09:06. > :09:11.let her go for a minute. The family travelled in their camper van and

:09:12. > :09:19.said it was invaluable. It became an makeshift soup kitchen and a place

:09:20. > :09:23.for people to sit and talk. Sadly it was the camp they visited which was

:09:24. > :09:27.partially dismantled yesterday, something the family finds deeply

:09:28. > :09:31.upsetting. One thing is certain - everyone in the family says they

:09:32. > :09:38.will go back. Michael said she cannot stop thinking about the

:09:39. > :09:43.friend she made. -- Nicole. Thinking about where they have got to sleep,

:09:44. > :09:46.and I have got a bed. It's clear the plight of the refugees has deeply

:09:47. > :09:47.affected this family and they say they are not prepared to sit back

:09:48. > :09:49.and do nothing. An East Belfast Mum says her

:09:50. > :09:54.seriously ill daughter's dreams came true today when pop star

:09:55. > :09:56.Adele visited the family home. The multi-award-winning singer

:09:57. > :09:58.was in the city tonight Tracy Gibney says her daughter

:09:59. > :10:05.Rebecca is one of her biggest fans. Lisa McAlister has

:10:06. > :10:20.been to meet them. # Hello from the other side...

:10:21. > :10:23.12-year-old Rebecca Gibney has several life limiting conditions

:10:24. > :10:27.including cerebral palsy, epilepsy and blindness. But she loves

:10:28. > :10:39.listening to music, particularly at Dell. -- Adele. Her response will be

:10:40. > :10:51.smiles. She is trying to move her mouth. She lobs and Dell's voice. If

:10:52. > :11:01.I put something else on she goes in and read. She has loved Adele for

:11:02. > :11:03.about five, six years now. She was in the hairdressers this afternoon

:11:04. > :11:11.when the singer's manager called and said she would be in their house in

:11:12. > :11:17.an hour. She told me I was really good mother. She played with

:11:18. > :11:24.Rebecca, said hello, it's Adele. I'll never forget it, and I do know.

:11:25. > :11:28.When Rebecca passes away, she did get her dream come true, and

:11:29. > :11:32.When Rebecca passes away, she did made me feel I am the best mum in

:11:33. > :11:37.the world, which I never felt. I can't believe it. Adele also invited

:11:38. > :11:46.Tracy and her other daughter to the concert tonight at her guests. ID to

:11:47. > :11:50.remember for all the Gibneys. -- day to remember.

:11:51. > :12:00.Now finally onto the weather outlook with Cecilia Daly.

:12:01. > :12:10.Tonight's weather dominated by storm Jake. Warnings are now in force for

:12:11. > :12:14.snow and ice across Northern Ireland. Initially lying snow across

:12:15. > :12:18.Northern counties, but by the end of the night there could be a covering

:12:19. > :12:28.almost anywhere. The most significant falls likely over higher

:12:29. > :12:32.ground, but likely to be icy in many places. Don't be surprised if you

:12:33. > :12:36.wake up to some snow cover just about anywhere. Significant snow

:12:37. > :12:40.likely over higher gross particularly in Derry and Antrim. It

:12:41. > :12:45.will improve as the morning goes on and become less wintry over the

:12:46. > :12:49.second half of the day. Warnings across parts of Scotland and

:12:50. > :12:54.northern England. Strong winds across Northern Ireland drifting

:12:55. > :12:58.down and then easing later on. It will feel cold everywhere with a

:12:59. > :13:01.biting North westerly wind. Showers across Northern Ireland will turn

:13:02. > :13:08.more to sleet and rain as the day goes on. Feeling colder in the

:13:09. > :13:12.strong winds. They will ease on Wednesday night. Not bad on

:13:13. > :13:15.Thursday. Sunshine and light winds for a while before the next weather

:13:16. > :13:21.system later, bringing a mix of rain and possibly sleet and held snow for

:13:22. > :13:26.a while too. Overall staying quite cold, wintry at times. There is the

:13:27. > :13:26.probably the best of the next few days.

:13:27. > :13:46.I'm Vincent Kearney, I'm home affairs correspondent

:13:47. > :13:49.Home affairs covers a huge range of subjects.
