:01:59. > :02:02.A new Dail, talk of a new beginning and lots of new TDs.
:02:03. > :02:04.Though some harder to recognise than others.
:02:05. > :02:06.And this advice to the new members from a veteran politician,
:02:07. > :02:13.even if he's only about to start his second term as a Dail deputy.
:02:14. > :02:24.Remember who you are, and who you represent, we are here for Ireland,

:02:27. > :02:27.island. Inside the chamber,
:02:28. > :02:29.the first serious business - the election of a Ceann Comhairle,

:02:33. > :02:38.winner, Fianna Fail's Sean O'Fearghaill, who signalled that
:02:39. > :02:42.political reform and more powers for ordinary TDs would be the order
:02:43. > :02:57.of the day on his watch. Disagreement is dubbed eating heart
:02:58. > :03:01.of a democracy but argument is the lifeblood of a vibrant chamber and
:03:02. > :03:04.mutual respect is the foundation of an effective argument.
:03:05. > :03:07.Fine Gael chose their leader, Enda Kenny.
:03:08. > :03:08.Fianna Fail speakers nominated Micheal Martin.
:03:09. > :03:22.As leader of the largest All-Ireland political party and as one of the
:03:23. > :03:26.architects of the Irish peace process, Gerry Adams has
:03:27. > :03:29.consistently displayed qualities of strong leadership, courage and
:03:30. > :03:31.perseverance. But the radical left said
:03:32. > :03:33.they couldn't support Mr Adams because Sinn Fein imposed austerity
:03:34. > :03:38.on Northern Ireland and got An Independent TD accepted no
:03:39. > :03:41.Taoiseach would be elected today but said the people
:03:42. > :03:53.couldn't wait indefinitely. I don't want to start talking about
:03:54. > :04:00.Civil War politics, the Sinn Fein, IRA or whatever, but 158 people here
:04:01. > :04:07.have been voted in by the people of Ireland to form a government, so do
:04:08. > :04:12.would. Scenes of harmony like these are unlikely to be repeated when the
:04:13. > :04:20.Dail sits again. Not all politicians, it seems, are yet
:04:21. > :04:28.musical brothers. And our logical ad joins us from Dublin. What happens
:04:29. > :04:32.next? Enda Kenny will go to Michael
:04:33. > :04:39.Higgins and tender his resignation as Taoiseach. He will remain in a
:04:40. > :04:44.caretaker capacity, so he will still head over to the White House to meet
:04:45. > :04:50.President Obama and handover the ceremonial shamrock, he will be
:04:51. > :04:54.joined by the First and Deputy First Minister but well he continues in a
:04:55. > :04:58.caretaker capacity, behind-the-scenes the parties will
:04:59. > :05:04.have to start trying to work a way out of this inconclusive mess. There
:05:05. > :05:09.is talk of a grand coalition between Fine Gael and Deanna Foyle but there
:05:10. > :05:15.is resistance, especially amongst Fiala Foyle's members because they
:05:16. > :05:19.have seen what has happened previously, so may have to come up
:05:20. > :05:24.with some sort of arrangement short of a coalition, possibly propping up
:05:25. > :05:30.Fine Gael in government but how long that can last is open to question.
:05:31. > :05:37.Was there any point in Sinn Fein numbers and Gerry Adams? They would
:05:38. > :05:41.have seen this as a symbolic move, a sign they had come back with more
:05:42. > :05:48.TDs and as one politician said, if it is been a political theatre today
:05:49. > :05:54.why shouldn't we be players in the art, and for Sinn Fein they got the
:05:55. > :06:00.support of the TD who was not one of their members, Seamus Heaney from
:06:01. > :06:07.Tipperary. What is the mood of the new Dail? This feature will have his
:06:08. > :06:12.work cut out. What happened after that road today, there were points
:06:13. > :06:19.of order, especially from Sinn Fein, and when they reconvene on March 22
:06:20. > :06:22.he will have to work hard to keep this balanced Dail in check.
:06:23. > :06:25.Two men charged in connection with the theft of a fire engine
:06:26. > :06:27.in Larne at the weekend have been released on bail.
:06:28. > :06:30.The vehicle crashed into a number of homes and cars in the town,
:06:31. > :06:35.Like a trailer for the next Hangover movie - that's how a solicitor
:06:36. > :06:38.for one of two men accused of stealing a fire engine from Larne
:06:39. > :06:41.fire station described the destruction in the town.
:06:42. > :06:44.The two men accused of involvement applied for and were granted bail
:06:45. > :06:47.at Ballymena Magistrates' Court today.
:06:48. > :06:50.The court heard that the alleged driver, 19-year-old Ross Clarke
:06:51. > :06:54.of Fairway in Larne, has a learning disability and had
:06:55. > :06:57.never driven a vehicle before, while his co-accused,
:06:58. > :07:00.66-year-old Robert Duffin of Green Link in the town,
:07:01. > :07:04.allegedly had a fascination for blue lights and that the men had been
:07:05. > :07:08.involved in making 20 hoax calls to the Fire Service.
:07:09. > :07:11.The court was told one of the accused is to reside
:07:12. > :07:14.in Newry, to which the judge said he hoped
:07:15. > :07:23.A dad has told BBC Newsline his child is only alive today
:07:24. > :07:26.because of the help they got from the mental health charity Fasa.
:07:27. > :07:29.As we reported on last night's programme, the organisation,
:07:30. > :07:32.which employs 60 people and has several branches,
:07:33. > :07:40.For more than 20 years, Fasa has helped the desperate,
:07:41. > :07:48.My child would not be alive today without them.
:07:49. > :07:51.Now they're battling for their own survival.
:07:52. > :07:54.Yesterday, Fasa announced it was effectively closing -
:07:55. > :07:59.In its last set of accounts, questions were raised
:08:00. > :08:07.Its chairman, who took over last November, has ordered a forensic
:08:08. > :08:15.An organisation which is the victim of our own success, we have grown to
:08:16. > :08:20.deal with the demand on the ground with our communities and we have had
:08:21. > :08:28.to use our own funding to cover those services and can no longer
:08:29. > :08:33.support that. For more than two decades, Assad has been helping
:08:34. > :08:36.people with mental health and addiction problems. The demand has
:08:37. > :08:39.grown. Last year, it opened its most
:08:40. > :08:41.ambitious project to date - the Nightingale Centre
:08:42. > :08:43.in East Belfast, One parent, who didn't
:08:44. > :08:46.want his own voice used, told me it was the only place that
:08:47. > :08:49.could reach his child. You're not treated in there
:08:50. > :08:52.as a number and you're not given You're treated as a child,

:08:59. > :09:02.child before he went there? My child before he went to Fasa

:09:09. > :09:10.and engaging with Fasa and feeling safe with them,
:09:11. > :09:13.he went off the drugs completely. Meetings will continue over
:09:14. > :09:15.the coming days to try and save the group, but anyone
:09:16. > :09:18.who needs help now is being asked to contact Lifeline Counselling
:09:19. > :09:26.Services or the Samaritans. Earlier this week, staff at Austins
:09:27. > :09:29.department store in Londonderry Many of the 53 staff had spent
:09:30. > :09:33.all of their working lives there and today our North-West
:09:34. > :09:47.reporter, Keiron Tourish, It's been a family illness for
:09:48. > :09:53.decades, Austins of the diamond, and for Declan it has been his working
:09:54. > :09:56.life more 40 years, but today in a deserted restaurant once bustling
:09:57. > :10:02.with people, he can only reflect that it is all over. From the time I
:10:03. > :10:09.joined, I witnessed events, marriages and the project gets that
:10:10. > :10:15.occurred in that time period. What many of our staff don't appreciate
:10:16. > :10:20.when this happens is this sudden wrenching of relationships because
:10:21. > :10:25.this is one big family and if you consider your family bricking up in
:10:26. > :10:32.the way this is happening, it is hard to deal with. It was one of

:14:36. > :14:40.results, after the horse meat scandal, what about official testing
:14:41. > :14:46.of the food chain? What is in place to make sure food is authentic?
:14:47. > :14:51.There has been a huge amount of 70 in the food industry to make sure
:14:52. > :14:57.the food we buy is safe and genuine. A lot of work on what we call supply
:14:58. > :15:05.chain mapping, looking at where things happen, making sure those are
:15:06. > :15:12.correct. What sort of foods should we worry about, the foods that are
:15:13. > :15:16.covered by fraudsters? We should be reassured about our food supply
:15:17. > :15:22.system but when I look globally there is a lot of fraud in many
:15:23. > :15:28.commodities, like milk, olive oil, herbs, spices and fish. It is
:15:29. > :15:33.impossible for consumers to protect ourselves, we are dependent on the
:15:34. > :15:37.people we buy our food from to protect us and that is why the food
:15:38. > :15:44.industry is working with government to make sure what we buy is safe.
:15:45. > :15:51.You have a big team here, what sort of research are you carrying out at
:15:52. > :15:55.the moment? We do a lot of work with local, national, multinational food
:15:56. > :16:00.companies to look at supply chains four or materials and show them the
:16:01. > :16:05.best way to check those to make sure they are safe. Let's look at the
:16:06. > :16:11.result of the piece of fish I brought in, brought by my producer,
:16:12. > :16:16.one of the cheapest fish products we could buy in Belfast. It said called
:16:17. > :16:22.on the label. Could there be a problem? I would hope it will be
:16:23. > :16:27.Jimmy Mullen because we have well-controlled supply systems but
:16:28. > :16:35.globally fraud in fish is one of the biggest problems we encounter. In a
:16:36. > :16:43.few seconds we will see what the instrumentation will identify this
:16:44. > :16:50.PC 's. It is called, 99.0%. So which is exactly as your producer bought
:16:51. > :16:56.so he obviously has an eye for a bargain. Looking at the food we buy
:16:57. > :17:04.in the shops, how worried should we be at the present time that our food
:17:05. > :17:09.is what we think it is? We have one of the safest food supply systems in
:17:10. > :17:13.the world but behind that will set a huge number of people trying to
:17:14. > :17:19.protect us because fraud in the food supply systems is a global problem.

:20:18. > :20:29.under the right conditions exercise For her, running was an ideal
:20:30. > :20:33.activity, it was some physical exercise but not excessive and she
:20:34. > :20:35.was enthusiastic about that and it will help her heart.

:20:40. > :20:51.Everyone can do something. People sitting at home saying that is not
