:00:00. > :00:17.On BBC One, we now join the BBC's news teams where you are.

:00:18. > :00:23.The former partner of child killer Robert Howard tells

:00:24. > :00:25.the Arlene Arkinson inquest she gave him a false alibi

:00:26. > :00:30.on the night the teenager went missing.

:00:31. > :00:33.The West Belfast secondary school where over a third of teaching

:00:34. > :00:40.Ten years on and new plans for a new John Lewis store

:00:41. > :00:45.at Sprucefield are due to be put forward.

:00:46. > :00:51.I have been taking a closer look at the cities where Northern Ireland

:00:52. > :00:54.are going to play at the Euros this summer. I will support the Northern

:00:55. > :00:56.Ireland team of course. Ireland finally put in a winning

:00:57. > :00:58.performance in this year's Six Nations, with a nine-try

:00:59. > :01:00.display against Italy. And there's more

:01:01. > :01:02.sunshine on the way. I'll be back with the forecast

:01:03. > :01:12.for the rest of the week. A key witness in the Arlene Arkinson

:01:13. > :01:15.inquest has admitted lying Patricia Quinn was in a relationship

:01:16. > :01:23.with Robert Howard at that time when the Castlederg teenager

:01:24. > :01:26.disappeared, and she provided an alibi for him on the night

:01:27. > :01:30.the young girl was reported missing. The convicted child-killer Howard,

:01:31. > :01:33.who died in prison, "Do you know what the truth is?"

:01:34. > :01:43.That's what lawyers for the Arkinson She had told police

:01:44. > :01:48.she was with Robert Howard In court today she said at the time

:01:49. > :01:56.she thought "it was only a wee white lie." She also claimed not

:01:57. > :02:11.to remember another teenager coming She forcefully denied being his

:02:12. > :02:17.girlfriend. She said he was more interested in young girls.

:02:18. > :02:22.girlfriend. She said he was more witnesses said this was

:02:23. > :02:24.She told the Coroner that Howard drove to a country road

:02:25. > :02:28.near Pettigoe to look for his watch just days after Arlene went missing.

:02:29. > :02:36.He then told her, "I've got secrets and I'm going to keep them."

:02:37. > :02:39.She claims he kept the keys down the front of his trousers

:02:40. > :02:41.but she managed to escape after slipping sleeping pills

:02:42. > :02:54.She also claimed another teenager

:02:55. > :02:55.She also claimed disappeared saying she had been

:02:56. > :02:58.raped by Howard. Lawyers for the Arkinson family

:02:59. > :03:01.and for the police each picked holes Shouting out, she told

:03:02. > :03:04.the Coroner's Court, "I'm not arguing with you no more,

:03:05. > :03:07.for I'm just fed up with it." It is up to the Coroner to decide

:03:08. > :03:10.if Patricia Quinn is telling the truth when she said she doesn't

:03:11. > :03:13.know what happened to Arlene The BBC understands that over

:03:14. > :03:21.a third of the teaching staff at one of West Belfast's biggest secondary

:03:22. > :03:24.schools are off today. A similar situation arose

:03:25. > :03:27.at De La Salle College in Andersonstown before Christmas,

:03:28. > :03:29.and there have been industrial Our education correspondent

:03:30. > :03:37.Robbie Meredith has the story. If there was a roll call

:03:38. > :03:40.for teachers rather than pupils at De La Salle College

:03:41. > :03:42.today, it would throw up My understanding is that today

:03:43. > :03:49.around two dozen That's out of a full-time

:03:50. > :03:54.teaching staff of around 70. A few staff in any school of such

:03:55. > :03:57.a size may be off sick, some even with long-term problems,

:03:58. > :04:01.at any particular time. But such a high number

:04:02. > :04:04.of staff being absent It's been a difficult

:04:05. > :04:08.period for the school over BBC Newsline first reported problems

:04:09. > :04:16.in the school last year. Since then there have been a number

:04:17. > :04:18.of meetings between the Board of Governors, the Council

:04:19. > :04:20.for Catholic Maintained Schools and the teaching unions

:04:21. > :04:23.to address a range of issues. A Strategy Group was set up

:04:24. > :04:25.to oversee a "formal renewal" The plan that group drew up included

:04:26. > :04:31.a range of actions including. A review of the school's pastoral

:04:32. > :04:37.care including "safeguarding/pupil discipline procedures." A review

:04:38. > :04:40.of staff welfare policy. Mechanisms "for raising

:04:41. > :04:41.and resolving staff concerns The plan also said that

:04:42. > :04:46."there should be no ultimatums, threats or vetos" as part

:04:47. > :04:49.of the process, and that there should be no communication

:04:50. > :04:52.with the media. But I understand that there have

:04:53. > :04:55.been delays in the implementation And that's in part responsible

:04:56. > :05:00.for the high levels of staff absence in the school,

:05:01. > :05:04.including a number of senior staff. I understand part of the school has

:05:05. > :05:07.also had to be closed to pupils today, due to health

:05:08. > :05:09.and safety concerns. Some parents are worried that

:05:10. > :05:13.pupils' preparation for some GCSE The INTO union, which represents

:05:14. > :05:24.the majority of teachers, say they are now considering further

:05:25. > :05:27.targeted industrial In a statement, the school principal

:05:28. > :05:31.Claire White said they were actively managing the situation

:05:32. > :05:33.and would work closely with the relevant bodies,

:05:34. > :05:35.including the trade unions, A shot's been fired

:05:36. > :05:48.at the front door of a house A man and woman were inside

:05:49. > :05:53.with their young son, A man, dressed in dark clothing,

:05:54. > :05:56.believed to have been involved in the incident, made off

:05:57. > :05:59.on a bicycle in the direction Three police officers suffered minor

:06:00. > :06:03.injuries this afternoon when a car, which was being chased,

:06:04. > :06:05.crashed into an armoured vehicle A second vehicle was also hit

:06:06. > :06:11.on Salisbury Avenue by the car which had failed to stop for police

:06:12. > :06:14.officers on the Shankill Road. The driver, a 35-year-old

:06:15. > :06:21.man, has been arrested. The First and Deputy First Ministers

:06:22. > :06:23.are visiting the United States as they begin to promote

:06:24. > :06:25.Northern Ireland's reduced rate From 2018 companies that invest

:06:26. > :06:30.here will pay 12.5% tax on their profits -

:06:31. > :06:33.the same as the Republic - whereas the rest of the UK

:06:34. > :06:36.will pay 19%. Our Economics and Business Editor

:06:37. > :06:44.John Campbell is in New York. A reduced rate of corporate tax

:06:45. > :06:51.is going to be a major part of the Executive's efforts

:06:52. > :06:53.to attract investment to Northern Ireland over

:06:54. > :06:58.the next few years. The United States is our biggest

:06:59. > :07:00.foreign investor with 175 companies So, Arlene Foster and Martin

:07:01. > :07:08.McGuinness will be pitching the tax advantage to potential investors

:07:09. > :07:10.in Silicon Valley The people who work

:07:11. > :07:16.in these buildings make investment decisions which can move

:07:17. > :07:21.money and jobs all over the world. A little of that has

:07:22. > :07:24.come to Northern Ireland but Executive Ministers

:07:25. > :07:28.think they can get more. Arlene Foster and Martin McGuinness

:07:29. > :07:31.are here to promote the 12.5% rate The message is simple -

:07:32. > :07:48.come to Northern Ireland and you can We are moving ahead in terms of our

:07:49. > :07:52.tax offering. We have the talent and value so it is about selling

:07:53. > :07:56.Northern Ireland to people who might not have heard the story of the new

:07:57. > :08:00.Northern Ireland. From ours perspective decision we took in the

:08:01. > :08:04.context of the fresh start agreement was all above as trying to ensure we

:08:05. > :08:07.could employ something in the region of between 30 and 35,000 new jobs.

:08:08. > :08:09.That is hugely important for us. A new promotional video

:08:10. > :08:12.is understated in its description And the attractive tax regime is

:08:13. > :08:29.getting even better... Corporate tax has become a

:08:30. > :08:30.controversial election issue in the US.

:08:31. > :08:32.There's been criticism of firms which have relocated

:08:33. > :08:34.their headquarters to Dublin to cut their tax bills.

:08:35. > :08:37.One of the critics is the woman who's likely to be fighting

:08:38. > :08:41.Donald Trump to be the next president.

:08:42. > :08:48.Now that Johnson is back on its feet they are gaming the system and

:08:49. > :08:50.moving profits to Ireland so they can avoid paying taxes here at home.

:08:51. > :08:52.It is an outrage. But the senior executive who hosted

:08:53. > :09:06.today's event said those type If you look at the proposed

:09:07. > :09:11.legislation in Northern Ireland, it is focused on training companies who

:09:12. > :09:13.are doing business. Coupled with the other attractive propositions within

:09:14. > :09:16.Northern Ireland, the tax is other attractive propositions within

:09:17. > :09:19.one component and I think businesses will look at that and look clearly

:09:20. > :09:21.and reasonably at that. The financial services firm Citi

:09:22. > :09:23.is one of the biggest investors One of its senior executives says

:09:24. > :09:27.that while the tax policy will encourage more firms to invest,

:09:28. > :09:41.education is also really important. The best thing that Northern Ireland

:09:42. > :09:46.has going for it is a well educated population, well educated workforce

:09:47. > :09:52.and frankly that has been the number one reason for us to expand our

:09:53. > :09:54.employment from zero to close to 2200 at the end of the year. All the

:09:55. > :09:56.others are nice to have. That's a useful reminder that

:09:57. > :09:58.a tax policy can't work on its own without investment

:09:59. > :10:09.in skills and infrastructure. Bill Mills who I was speaking to

:10:10. > :10:13.there was also chatting to me about the EU referendum and a potential

:10:14. > :10:22.rack set and he made it clear that as far as his company is concerned,

:10:23. > :10:25.as far as UK pulling out of the EU, it would jeopardise any investment

:10:26. > :10:31.he might make. He is only one voice but it is one of a chorus of

:10:32. > :10:39.business people that would be very concerned about a Brexit. Thank you.

:10:40. > :10:41.Still to come on tonight's programme.

:10:42. > :10:44.Why one school is asking its pupils not to attend a major

:10:45. > :10:53.The owners of the Sprucefield retail park near Lisburn are preparing

:10:54. > :11:00.a fresh planning application for a John Lewis department store.

:11:01. > :11:03.The original plan is being changed to try to improve its chances

:11:04. > :11:05.of being approved, as our business correspondent

:11:06. > :11:11.Talk of a John Lewis department store here is ten years

:11:12. > :11:16.old and counting, but a new proposal is in the making.

:11:17. > :11:22.According to the area's MP the site's owners,

:11:23. > :11:36.Campaigners against the previous but dropping the idea of 19 other

:11:37. > :11:40.Campaigners against the previous planning application, that was their

:11:41. > :11:45.main concern. I think that what they are looking at is something much

:11:46. > :11:49.more of a regional nature, so you could have a John Lewis store and

:11:50. > :11:52.you might have other developments associated with it, such as a hotel.

:11:53. > :11:55.The other shops had been contentious - the fear was it would

:11:56. > :11:57.upset retail elsewhere - but the proposal never became

:11:58. > :12:00.reality because it was decided any expansion at this location should be

:12:01. > :12:16.So, what has changed? On Friday a High Court judge ruled that the area

:12:17. > :12:18.plan that contains the bulky goods condition was adopted unlawfully by

:12:19. > :12:21.the condition was adopted unlawfully by

:12:22. > :12:22.Durkan, who it was bound acted without securing the consent of the

:12:23. > :12:24.Executive. And tweaking the proposal to exclude

:12:25. > :12:27.extra shops is seen as a bid to improve the chances

:12:28. > :12:30.of a new application But there will still be objections -

:12:31. > :12:33.those who believe in town centre first policy for retail -

:12:34. > :12:36.and Belfast City Centre may not have Residents living around

:12:37. > :12:48.the Casement Park GAA ground in West Belfast say they've received

:12:49. > :12:53.information that raises concerns about emergency evacuation

:12:54. > :12:56.procedures at the planned The Mooreland and Owenvarragh

:12:57. > :13:00.Residents Association says this comes from a Freedom

:13:01. > :13:03.of Information request. The ?77 million Casement Park

:13:04. > :13:09.redevelopment project has been Now information gained

:13:10. > :13:15.from a Freedom of Information request raises concerns over safety

:13:16. > :13:18.surrounding the evacuation of the planned stadium

:13:19. > :13:21.within a stipulated The GAA wants a ground that can hold

:13:22. > :13:28.more than 30,000 fans. The joint Police, Ambulance and Fire

:13:29. > :13:32.and Rescue service report suggests that just over 18,000 fans could be

:13:33. > :13:36.safely evacuated within eight minutes if the main exits

:13:37. > :13:38.on the Andersonstown Road This figure would drop to just over

:13:39. > :13:45.11,000 in a worst case scenario if the other exit roads had

:13:46. > :13:52.cars parked on them. The report's been described

:13:53. > :13:54.as highly significant by the local residents group campaigning

:13:55. > :14:04.against a 38,000-seater stadium. We are happy to have a GAA stadium

:14:05. > :14:09.in case and part. It has been there a long time and we wandered back but

:14:10. > :14:14.we wanted on a scale that means the neighbourhood's needs and it fits in

:14:15. > :14:15.with the neighbourhood in terms of scale and capacity.

:14:16. > :14:18.The Ulster GAA stressed that the new Casement stadium

:14:19. > :14:46.There are just 90 days to go until Northern Ireland kick off

:14:47. > :14:48.in their first game of the European Football

:14:49. > :14:56.As it's the Northern Ireland team's first major tournament in 30 years,

:14:57. > :15:00.the Euros will be a new experience for many of their younger fans.

:15:01. > :15:03.BBC Newsline's Mark Simpson takes a look at what they can expect

:15:04. > :15:17.It is quite a journey, covering more than half the length of France and

:15:18. > :15:22.taking in the three cities where Northern Ireland play their group

:15:23. > :15:25.games, Nice, Lyon and Paris. I have been on this road trip and it all

:15:26. > :15:42.began beside the sea. You have got the sunshine and the

:15:43. > :15:47.seaside. For a Northern Ireland fan it doesn't get much better than

:15:48. > :15:51.this. Also, wait till you see the football stadium. Believe it or not

:15:52. > :15:56.this is the smallest stadium Northern Ireland will play in. It

:15:57. > :16:01.has only around 35,000 seats, but when the team come out here to start

:16:02. > :16:07.their campaign on Sunday the 12th of June, all the fans will be pretty

:16:08. > :16:10.close to the action. That end will be ace see of green and knowing

:16:11. > :16:16.Northern Ireland fans, other parts of the stadium will be too. We are

:16:17. > :16:21.very proud to have some green in the stadium and we have it in another

:16:22. > :16:26.way because we are a green and eco-friendly stadium. We have solar

:16:27. > :16:33.panels on the rooftop. We collect rainwater. We use the energy from

:16:34. > :16:43.soil. After Nice it is a long five Hour Drive N. To hear, Lyon, for the

:16:44. > :16:48.second match against the Ukraine. It is the third-largest city in the

:16:49. > :16:52.whole of France. It is also the city which is the closest to Northern

:16:53. > :16:56.Ireland's training base. In this small country town they are bringing

:16:57. > :17:03.the local pitch up to international standard. People here are very

:17:04. > :17:07.excited about the Euros, so we will they be supporting, France or

:17:08. > :17:11.Northern Ireland? My heart is in France and maybe I am very happy

:17:12. > :17:23.that Northern Ireland are coming here. I will support Northern

:17:24. > :17:27.Ireland, of course. The final destination for the fans

:17:28. > :17:32.Ireland, of course. The final 300 miles from Lyon, here in the

:17:33. > :17:37.French capital of Paris. At the home of the local team, the game against

:17:38. > :17:44.the world champions Germany. One more thing, the fan zone in Paris is

:17:45. > :17:49.the mother of all fan zones. It will have room for more than 120,000

:17:50. > :17:54.people. And what's more, it is dead easy to find. With all this

:17:55. > :17:58.travelling the Northern Ireland team are going to need a good hotel.

:17:59. > :18:01.Thankfully I have already been given a guided tour. Find out more on

:18:02. > :18:07.tomorrow's BBC Newsline. A North Belfast school has asked

:18:08. > :18:10.pupils sitting GCSEs and A-levels not to attend a major Belfast music

:18:11. > :18:14.festival in case it distracts them It's the annual festival that's

:18:15. > :18:24.become a firm fixture It's usually held in August,

:18:25. > :18:30.but this year Belsonic is in June - right in the middle

:18:31. > :18:33.of school exam time. And it's the DJ Tiesto gig

:18:34. > :18:36.that's concerning teachers at St Patrick's College,

:18:37. > :18:39.Bearnageeha. Tiesto plays on June 9th -

:18:40. > :18:42.that's the night before GCSE and A-level pupils at

:18:43. > :18:46.the North Belfast school sit The school is asking

:18:47. > :19:00.affected pupils not to go. The sensible. Don't cast aside all

:19:01. > :19:04.of the hard work you have put in over the last year or two years. Do

:19:05. > :19:05.your very past in your exams and wait for the celebrations

:19:06. > :19:06.afterwards. Opinion is split amongst pupils

:19:07. > :19:09.who are deciding whether to spend another night studying or reward

:19:10. > :19:18.themselves for their hard work. I definitely do want to go but

:19:19. > :19:26.education comes first. My future isn't going to hinge on a concert,

:19:27. > :19:30.it is whatever I get in August. Some people can't go, some can't. People

:19:31. > :19:34.like myself are in between. I still can go but I should maybe be in the

:19:35. > :19:35.books. Then again you have to enjoy yourself.

:19:36. > :19:37.No-one from Belsonic was available to speak because they were busy

:19:38. > :19:40.announcing a new act - The Chemical Brothers -

:19:41. > :19:44.The debate over Belsonic continues here at St Patrick's,

:19:45. > :19:46.Bearnageeha, as it does in schools across Northern Ireland.

:19:47. > :19:50.Pupils are being asked to decide what their priorities are -

:19:51. > :19:58.good exam results or a good night out.

:19:59. > :20:01.Sport is next and in our new studio - Gavin Andrews is in a new home

:20:02. > :20:07.Yes - a new home and some good news to kick us off.

:20:08. > :20:10.Ireland finally picked up a win in this year's Six Nations

:20:11. > :20:20.of Italy at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.

:20:21. > :20:22.A nine-try display and Rory Best's first victory as captain

:20:23. > :20:35.It was an afternoon that little bit of everything for

:20:36. > :20:38.Ireland. Subtle touches from the backs. And some good old-fashioned

:20:39. > :20:45.brute force upfront. Joe backs. And some good old-fashioned

:20:46. > :20:49.men played at a pace Italy just couldn't live with.

:20:50. > :20:53.men played at a pace Italy just tried the length of the field that

:20:54. > :20:58.will live long in the memory. It was quite a turnaround for the defending

:20:59. > :21:03.champions. It is a step up will stop the intensity was high. We need to

:21:04. > :21:08.work on a few things but it is nice to know we can still do it and still

:21:09. > :21:11.scored tries and put teams under pressure with pace and width and put

:21:12. > :21:17.temple into the game. I think next week will be a big step up. Some

:21:18. > :21:21.mistakes that we will not get away with against Scotland. A lot of work

:21:22. > :21:27.to do in the next week. But they are having fun again. I was trying to

:21:28. > :21:30.put that one down but it wasn't coming my way but I have nothing to

:21:31. > :21:33.complain about because the boys played really well and I am more

:21:34. > :21:38.than happy if they score the tries and get the win. It will be another

:21:39. > :21:41.step up next week but at the same time, we are happy we are more

:21:42. > :21:47.efficient in scoring tries and being more clinical in the opposition 22.

:21:48. > :21:51.No one is expecting another nine try bonanza but the players are all too

:21:52. > :21:54.aware that their performance in the final game may waive well be how

:21:55. > :21:56.this six Nations is remembered. Reigning champion Jonathan Rea

:21:57. > :21:58.remains the leader in the World Superbikes Championship

:21:59. > :22:00.after a dramatic second He came home first in Race One
