:01:43. > :01:43.Before the court was Matthew Brian Gillen

:03:09. > :03:13.bodily harm with intent on Paul McCauley during the attack.

:03:14. > :03:15.A detective constable quoted the International Monitoring

:03:16. > :03:19.Commission and said this was an unsanctioned UDA attack.

:03:20. > :03:22.He said Matthew Brian Gillen was still linked to loyalism

:03:23. > :03:26.paramilitarism, or at least was supportive of them,

:03:27. > :03:31.and that was based on items found in house searches.

:04:16. > :04:20.Keiron Tourish, BBC Newsline, Londonderry Magistrates' Court.

:04:21. > :04:23.A man has been remanded in custody charged with murdering his

:04:24. > :04:28.Gary O'Dowd, who is 36 and from Knocknagore Road

:04:29. > :04:32.in Gilford, denies killing Laura Marshall at her

:04:33. > :04:36.In court, a police officer said the couple's three-year relationship

:04:37. > :04:41.had been a "catalogue" of alleged domestic violence.

:04:42. > :04:59.The sink in the bathroom where Laura's body was found had been

:05:00. > :05:03.pulled from the wall. The landlord led to the discovery of her body. A

:05:04. > :05:10.horrifying description of the scene was given by a detective Sergeant,

:05:11. > :05:15.but it was the boyfriend, Gary O Dowd, who appeared in court charged

:05:16. > :05:18.with murder. They also revealed that the couple's three-year relationship

:05:19. > :05:24.had featured what he called a catalogue of incidents that alleged

:05:25. > :05:28.domestic violence. Applying for a bill, a defence lawyer argued that

:05:29. > :05:35.there was no forensic evidence to connect the client to the crime, but

:05:36. > :05:39.CCTV of the flat showed no sign of him coming or going at any point and

:05:40. > :05:44.there was no eyewitness. The detective confirmed that during 25

:05:45. > :05:47.interviews over several days, Gary O Dowd had consistently denied any

:05:48. > :05:53.involvement in the death of Laura Marshall. Bail was refused and Gary

:05:54. > :06:01.O Dowd will appear again in court next month. BBC Newsline, Craigavon.

:06:02. > :06:06.The emergency services are at the scene of two crashes on the M1 this

:06:07. > :06:10.evening. Both are between... It happened between junction eight

:06:11. > :06:25.at Blaris and junction nine Drivers are urged to exit the M1

:06:26. > :06:29.before Moira. A lorry crashed into the central reservation between

:06:30. > :06:32.junction eight and junction nine at Moira before midday. The outer lanes

:06:33. > :06:34.on either side of the barrier were closed for several hours.

:06:35. > :06:37.At one stage, traffic heading west was backed up eight and a half

:06:38. > :06:51.It is day two of the Masters golf tournament. Join me for all the

:06:52. > :06:53.latest from Augusta. A judge has ruled that a current

:06:54. > :06:56.Inquiry into historical abuse in Northern Ireland is equipped

:06:57. > :07:00.to fully investigate allegations about a former children's

:07:01. > :07:03.home in East Belfast. The Secretary of State decided

:07:04. > :07:07.that the Kincora Boys home should be examined as part

:07:08. > :07:09.of the Historical Campaigners had argued

:07:10. > :07:18.that the Banbridge Inquiry doesn't have enough powers

:07:19. > :07:20.to investigate claims At the heart of this case,

:07:21. > :07:29.the intelligence services. There have been allegations that

:07:30. > :07:32.a paedophile ring at Kincora was linked to some people working

:07:33. > :07:34.in intelligence gathering. Today, campaigners came to court,

:07:35. > :07:37.against the backdrop Three senior care staff

:07:38. > :07:43.at Kincora were jailed in 1981 At least 29 boys were abused

:07:44. > :07:49.at the home between the late 1950s Last year, the Government

:07:50. > :07:54.refused to include Kincora in a cross-channel Inquiry,

:07:55. > :07:58.established at Westminister. Campaigners here

:07:59. > :08:05.refused to accept that. They claimed the Inquiry

:08:06. > :08:07.in Banbridge didn't have enough powers to investigate

:08:08. > :08:25.the intelligence services. The Justice said the claim was

:08:26. > :08:31.premature and ill-conceived and dismissed it. They emerged from

:08:32. > :08:35.courts disappointed. I have a lot of fight in me. It is

:08:36. > :08:40.not about winning. It is about justice. I will do whatever it

:08:41. > :08:46.takes. Today's ruling is yet another

:08:47. > :08:50.endorsement of the work of the Historical Institutional Abuse

:08:51. > :08:52.Inquiry. For the victims, it is one more footnote in the troubled

:08:53. > :08:54.history of Kincora. The former head of Sport NI,

:08:55. > :09:00.Brian Henning, has claimed he resigned after the Sports

:09:01. > :09:03.Minister Caral Ni Chuilin Last week, the Minister indicated

:09:04. > :09:08.Mr Henning had In an interview today,

:09:09. > :09:14.he disputed her version of events. When Brian Henning stepped down

:09:15. > :09:22.from the Sport NI board last week, Minister Caral Ni Chuilin said

:09:23. > :09:26.it was his decision not hers. Mr Henning had been

:09:27. > :09:28.the chair of the board, The Minister did an interview

:09:29. > :09:48.after they stepped down. In fairness to Brian and Ian, they

:09:49. > :09:50.felt it was appropriate to have new leadership at the board of sport NI.

:09:51. > :09:52.Today Brian Henning gave his side of the story

:09:53. > :09:55.He said the vice-chair and him were called to a meeting

:09:56. > :09:58.and what happened next took them both by surprise.

:09:59. > :10:28.What does the Minister Caral Ni Chuilin say about that? She was not

:10:29. > :10:31.available for interview today but in the past hour she e-mailed a

:10:32. > :10:37.statement in which they said that her and Brian Henning had discussed

:10:38. > :10:41.her concerns about leadership within sport NI and she says having

:10:42. > :10:47.discussed my concerns and having considered his position, he offered

:10:48. > :10:50.his resignation, as did Mr McAvoy. Those are the facts, says the

:10:51. > :10:56.minister, but what would have happened if Brian Henning had not

:10:57. > :11:01.resigned? She does not say. But she did thank Brian Henning and Ian

:11:02. > :11:02.McAvoy for all their hard work and dedication while at Sport NI.

:11:03. > :11:14.Still to come before 7pm, we preview the big top of the table clash in

:11:15. > :11:17.local football as crusaders entertainment field. -- the

:11:18. > :11:20.crusaders entertain Linfield. The US investment funds that took

:11:21. > :11:23.over some of Sean Quinn's businesses have urged him to speak out

:11:24. > :11:25.against what they call "escalating violence and intimidation"

:11:26. > :11:27.directed at the firms. Once Ireland's richest man,

:11:28. > :11:31.the Fermanagh businessman lost control of his manufacturing empire

:11:32. > :11:36.in 2011, following a disastrous bet In a statement to the BBC,

:11:37. > :11:42.Sean Quinn said he will continue to condemn all negative

:11:43. > :11:47.activity in the local area. Here's our south-west

:11:48. > :11:52.reporter Julian Fowler. Sean Quinn,

:11:53. > :11:53.leaving his office today - but he no longer

:11:54. > :11:56.owns his old company. He is a consultant,

:11:57. > :11:59.the highest-paid person here - reportedly on ?500,000 a year -

:12:00. > :12:02.but it seems he has grown increasing After he lost control

:12:03. > :12:12.of his old empire in 2011, there was a violent campaign -

:12:13. > :12:14.attacks which were condemned by Mr Quinn, who said those

:12:15. > :12:21.responsible were not acting In December 2014, the packaging

:12:22. > :12:24.and construction materials business was sold to

:12:25. > :12:27.Quinn Industrial Holdings, hailed then as the return of Sean Quinn,

:12:28. > :12:30.but now the violence The company is run by executives

:12:31. > :12:38.who formerly managed the Quinn group, but is jointly owned by three

:12:39. > :12:42.American investment funds. In an email obtained

:12:43. > :12:44.by the Impartial Reporter and seen by the BBC,

:12:45. > :12:47.the investors make clear they have no intention of selling the firms

:12:48. > :12:53.to Mr Quinn in the immediate future. They said "threats...false personal

:12:54. > :12:56.attacks and vandalism" were adversely impacting

:12:57. > :12:59.on its "willingness to continue They called on Mr Quinn to take

:13:00. > :13:04.an "active approach" against the "increasingly negative

:13:05. > :13:08.activity in the community". They said that Mr Quinn needed

:13:09. > :13:11.to "rectify his relationship And added "recent developments have

:13:12. > :13:18.done nothing but move Sean further away from his goal" to acquire

:13:19. > :13:22.ownership of the business. In a statement to the BBC,

:13:23. > :13:25.Sean Quinn said he and his family will continue to condemn

:13:26. > :13:28.all negative activity Nobody here wanted to speak publicly

:13:29. > :13:33.about the power struggle taking place inside,

:13:34. > :13:37.but the fallout from Sean Quinn's bankruptcy shows no signs

:13:38. > :13:42.of going away anytime soon. Julian Fowler, BBC Newsline,

:13:43. > :13:46.Derrylin. The Education Minister has said

:13:47. > :13:49.the circumstances faced by pupils in De La Salle College

:13:50. > :13:53.in West Belfast will be considered Regular protests have been held

:13:54. > :13:59.outside the school following high A new associate principal has been

:14:00. > :14:04.brought in following weeks After meeting a group

:14:05. > :14:09.of parents this morning, John O'Dowd said he will not start

:14:10. > :14:24.an inquiry into what's been I also confirmed to the concerned

:14:25. > :14:30.groups today that the principal and vice and above will not stand down.

:14:31. > :14:36.They are clearly disappointed by that. I said to them, in relation to

:14:37. > :14:42.their call for an enquiry, I said no one was introduced... It would say

:14:43. > :14:45.to me that they need an independent enquiry. If they produce data that

:14:46. > :14:47.clearly state or shows they need an enquiry, I will follow up.

:14:48. > :14:49.Six weeks after the Republic's general election and a Government

:14:50. > :14:54.Fianna Fail has turned down an offer from Fine Gael to form a coalition.

:14:55. > :14:57.Our Dublin correspondent Shane Harrison joins me now.

:14:58. > :15:13.There was some surprise at the speed at which Fianna Fail rejected the

:15:14. > :15:17.offer of a partnership Government which would have included

:15:18. > :15:21.independence in the Government. They say they are honouring their

:15:22. > :15:25.pre-election pledge but would not be able to support a minority

:15:26. > :15:31.Government. Next Thursday, they are due to meet again to elect. Fianna

:15:32. > :15:39.Fail are likely to have more votes... But Fine Gael and Fina foil

:15:40. > :15:43.are going to have to come to some sort of arrangement and Fine Gael

:15:44. > :15:46.once that arrangement to come in a written form.

:15:47. > :15:51.If we had a minority Government, it would have to be underpinned by a

:15:52. > :15:55.agreement to ensure the Government is stable and we can have a

:15:56. > :15:58.programme. That is something we really have to discuss and talk

:15:59. > :16:02.about and that can only happen if there are talks between the two big

:16:03. > :16:08.parties. If Fianna Fail and Fine Gael can

:16:09. > :16:14.have an understanding about policies and Government and how long that

:16:15. > :16:17.might last, the question for Fianna Fail is if they can agree that much,

:16:18. > :16:22.why not go into Government with Fine Gael, and the question is that they

:16:23. > :16:25.do not want Sinn Fein, which has ruled itself out a Government

:16:26. > :16:25.formation, to be the main opposition party.

:16:26. > :16:36.The prospect of another general election has increased marginally

:16:37. > :16:40.but it is still unlikely at this stage. Today, in Fianna Fail

:16:41. > :16:45.negotiator said there needed to be a toning down of their rhetoric will

:16:46. > :16:49.stop a call for calm and cool heads to be bail. It is probable that over

:16:50. > :16:55.the weekend, there will be contacts between Fianna Fail and Fine Gael,

:16:56. > :16:55.with Thursday's vote concentrating minds.

:16:56. > :16:57.Thank you. A major sporting event that started

:16:58. > :16:59.yesterday will continue to wind its way round the local

:17:00. > :17:19.countryside over the weekend. Welcome to a very busy surface area

:17:20. > :17:23.at King's Hall in south Belfast. This is for the Circuit of Ireland

:17:24. > :17:27.Rally. These guys have been at it all day long. There been various

:17:28. > :17:32.stages across the sumptuous scenery in Northern Ireland. A former

:17:33. > :17:34.champion is the man they have to beat and he has won three stages

:17:35. > :17:38.today. Some of that scenery today... The morning stages took

:17:39. > :17:40.in Cairncastle and Knockboy, and then onto the spectacular

:17:41. > :17:42.glens of Antrim. Traversing Glendun and Torr Head,

:17:43. > :17:44.on through a passage control at the Dark Hedges,

:17:45. > :17:54.before moving onto Bushmills They have assembled at this service

:17:55. > :17:59.station in Belfast and it has been a busy day for these teams and

:18:00. > :18:02.drivers. Now, two drivers of a different kind. Golf.

:18:03. > :18:04.Day two of the US Masters, reigning champion Jordan Spieth

:18:05. > :18:06.the early pace setter, but Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy

:18:07. > :18:15.Reporting from Augusta, Georgia, for BBC Newsline, Stephen Watson.

:18:16. > :18:23.So far today, we have seen the brilliance and the inconsistency of

:18:24. > :18:27.Rory McIlroy. Frustrating at times, superb at others. But there are no

:18:28. > :18:32.players today who have been able to make a charge so far. They look nice

:18:33. > :18:36.and calm at Augusta but it certainly is not. The players are finding it

:18:37. > :18:43.difficult to score today. Rory McIlroy is staying patient and

:18:44. > :18:49.staying in touch with the leader Jordan Spieth who teed off a short

:18:50. > :18:53.time ago. Rory teed off in breezy conditions, determined to get off to

:18:54. > :19:02.a fast start and that he did. Best part was for a birdie at the par-5

:19:03. > :19:09.second. At the next hole, the par-4 thirds, he produced this superb

:19:10. > :19:18.approach shot. And ruled in a second successive birdie, to put himself

:19:19. > :19:23.into a shot for second. But, like yesterday, there were problems at

:19:24. > :19:26.the par-3 4th. A disappointing tee shot saw him finding trouble and

:19:27. > :19:32.eventually this part was for bogey... But there were two dropped

:19:33. > :19:38.shots. That was followed by another bogey and there were some relief

:19:39. > :19:42.when this putt dropped to save par at the 6th. Shane Lowry joint second

:19:43. > :19:48.overnight was unflappable yesterday but today he had to deal with early

:19:49. > :19:55.problems. He dropped two shots in the first two holes but instead his

:19:56. > :20:02.game. -- steadied his game and found his touch on the lightning fast

:20:03. > :20:06.greens. The same could not be said for Graeme McDowell, unfortunately,

:20:07. > :20:14.who dropped four shots in his first five holes and has work to do if he

:20:15. > :20:17.is to make the halfway cut. But Darren Clarke won't be here for the

:20:18. > :20:22.weekend as his frustrations continued on the course. The

:20:23. > :20:28.distractions of Ryder Cup captaincy are taking their toll. Clark will

:20:29. > :20:32.need to train, to qualify in the future, if he wants to come back to

:20:33. > :20:36.the Masters, as his exemption has run out. Can McAvoy Lowry be the

:20:37. > :20:38.first Irish golfer to slip on the green jacket? We shall see in what

:20:39. > :20:48.should be an intriguing weekend. At the latest, speak second under

:20:49. > :20:49.Lowry, four, and Rory McIlroy, six shots off the pace.

:20:50. > :20:50.In local football, with five games remaining

:20:51. > :20:53.in the Danske Bank Premiership, leaders Crusaders are five points

:20:54. > :20:56.Tomorrow the top two meet in the biggest game

:20:57. > :21:10.The crusaders are the champions. They cruised to their first title in

:21:11. > :21:14.18 years last season but retaining the Gibson cup for the first time in

:21:15. > :21:21.their history has not been plain sailing. It is tougher than this

:21:22. > :21:24.time last year. We hit our top form earlier in the season in terms of

:21:25. > :21:28.scoring was of goals. The last few weeks has been more of a grind, so

:21:29. > :21:36.brass to retain the league title for the first time in history -- for us

:21:37. > :21:40.to. We are into the business and and we are trying to get ourselves over

:21:41. > :21:49.the line. He has given Linfield the lead...

:21:50. > :21:51.The 51 league champions, who, despite a shaky start, are currently

:21:52. > :21:57.the Premiership's most informed team.

:21:58. > :22:01.It has injected a bit of bite into them and they look more hungry. The

:22:02. > :22:08.two top teams in Northern Ireland, with the prize of the leak at state,

:22:09. > :22:14.tomorrow it will not be decided but certainly gather some idea of the

:22:15. > :22:18.Gibson cup. -- the two top teams with the price of the league at

:22:19. > :22:19.stake. All the action tomorrow. Derry City

:22:23. > :22:25.if Derry City beat Shamrock Rovers they'll go top of

:23:27. > :23:34.Good evening. Our Forum manager Peter is on work tonight and he came

:23:35. > :23:40.in earlier, Stoke, covered in raindrops, and he shook them off and

:23:41. > :23:43.said it is ghastly today. -- soaked. It is a brilliant day for an

:23:44. > :23:49.umbrella but tonight you can trade that in for a duvet and a hot water

:23:50. > :23:54.bottle, because if the rain has been the story of the daylight hours,

:23:55. > :23:57.overnight, the story is of this cold air moving in behind the front. It

:23:58. > :24:04.means the temperatures will drop away overnight. We could see minimum

:24:05. > :24:08.temperatures down as low as minus four Celsius in some places. It

:24:09. > :24:15.could be a busy night for the road service with the gritters and for a

:24:16. > :24:19.while... Some icy patches on untreated roads by dawn tomorrow.

:24:20. > :24:24.The good news is that at this time of the year, some of us get up

:24:25. > :24:31.early, so icy patches should melt away quickly, so Saturday morning

:24:32. > :24:34.should be decent. It will be dry and bright for a time, with average is

:24:35. > :24:41.around seven Celsius through the morning, but by the afternoon, it is

:24:42. > :24:47.different. We will see increasing showers popping up. Those will be

:24:48. > :24:52.wintry in nature, so expect hail and maybe thunder as well. Those showers

:24:53. > :24:59.continued through the evening. Saturday into Sunday, it will be

:25:00. > :25:03.another cold night. We hold onto this chilly theme to our weather on

:25:04. > :25:09.Sunday, but with one additional factor. Well the air temperature is

:25:10. > :25:13.going to be a bit warmer on Sunday and Saturday, give an eye on the

:25:14. > :25:20.wind. Through the afternoon, the wind picks up. A bit more wind chill

:25:21. > :25:27.in the factor to our weather. Despite those getting up into double

:25:28. > :25:31.figures, it could be chilly. The weekend forecast is reasonably dry

:25:32. > :25:37.with that additional breeze through Sunday afternoon, it might feel more

:25:38. > :25:40.cool than those numbers suggest. If you wrap up, you should be able to
