:00:00. > :00:31.a priest there says the community is in shock.

:00:32. > :00:39.It is not what happens in civilised society. Who makes these people the

:00:40. > :00:41.judge and jury of anyone? Who give them the right to terrorise a young

:00:42. > :00:48.family like this? in Ecuador.

:00:49. > :00:53.Almost 800 children face The latest in our series

:00:54. > :01:07.of constituency profiles Rangers supporters are celebrating

:01:08. > :01:08.after yesterday's victory in the old firm match but here in Belfast what

:01:09. > :01:19.is the A priest has described how a woman

:01:20. > :01:30.cradled her husband as he lay dying Michael McGibbon had been

:01:31. > :01:36.shot by paramilitaries. Mr McGibbon who was 33 had been

:01:37. > :01:40.in contact with the police about an incident the night before

:01:41. > :01:44.when masked men came It's understood he's the prominent

:01:45. > :02:04.North Belfast republican Michael McGibbon had a young family.

:02:05. > :02:08.His wife, a nurse, try to save his life after finding him in an

:02:09. > :02:14.alleyway on Friday night. Just yards from their home. The direct chain of

:02:15. > :02:19.events which led to the murder of Michael McGibbon is as brief as it

:02:20. > :02:22.was brittle. Sometime on Thursday evening, he refused to leave his

:02:23. > :02:26.home when men covering their faces called at the door. On Friday

:02:27. > :02:30.morning, he spoke to the police about the incident the previous

:02:31. > :02:33.evening. It has been reported that on the Friday afternoon he was

:02:34. > :02:39.approached by a man as he picked up his children at school. He told him

:02:40. > :02:43.to go to a meeting later. That evening, he was shot three times in

:02:44. > :02:48.the alley not far from his family home. Although Michael McGibbon had

:02:49. > :02:53.contacted the police about the encounter with the masked man, it is

:02:54. > :02:55.now understood that he and his wife spent Friday anticipating the

:02:56. > :03:01.meeting at the alleyway that evening. He set off for it at the

:03:02. > :03:05.appointed time, still hoping to persuade whomever he met not to harm

:03:06. > :03:10.him. During the shooting, a major artery in his fight was severed.

:03:11. > :03:16.Their day was centred around this alleged appointment when in fact,

:03:17. > :03:22.they sat with the children, they ate together and they watched a DVD

:03:23. > :03:27.together. At the appointed time, he left somewhat early, having said a

:03:28. > :03:32.fond farewell to her. I suppose in the vain hope that maybe he could

:03:33. > :03:36.change the mind of those he met. Mr McGivern's contact with the PSNI

:03:37. > :03:42.after the incident on Thursday was raised with detectives at a police

:03:43. > :03:45.news conference at the weekend. Did he ask for police protection after

:03:46. > :03:50.what may have been a death threat on Thursday? Actors like that would be

:03:51. > :03:55.confidential and at this time I am focusing on the murder inquiry. As a

:03:56. > :04:00.matter of course, anybody in contact with police within a short period of

:04:01. > :04:03.time before dying is automatically referred to the police ombudsman.

:04:04. > :04:07.The police ombudsman 's office has confirmed it has received a referral

:04:08. > :04:11.by the police and is carrying out initial inquiry is. The First

:04:12. > :04:15.Minister has added her voice to the chorus of condemnation of the

:04:16. > :04:18.killing. This is a terrible tragedy. Of course Northern Ireland is in a

:04:19. > :04:22.much better place than many years ago but we still have to deal with

:04:23. > :04:27.this evil that is on our street and I give my full support to the police

:04:28. > :04:32.service in order to do that. A 34-year-old man understood to be the

:04:33. > :04:34.prominent North Belfast republican, Dee Fennell, was arrested yesterday

:04:35. > :04:36.and is being questioned by detectives.

:04:37. > :04:39.One of the victims of the earthquake in Ecuador at the weekend

:04:40. > :04:44.Sister Claire Crockett had been working as a teacher.

:04:45. > :04:47.Our North-West reporter Keiron Tourish begins this report

:04:48. > :04:50.with a video of Sister Claire as she spoke about her vocation

:04:51. > :05:02.When I entered as a sister, I did so to dedicate my life to God and I

:05:03. > :05:09.knew I was putting my life in his hands. Sister Claire Crockett who

:05:10. > :05:12.was from the Long tower area of the city was based at the school where

:05:13. > :05:19.she served with the home of the mother order. The earthquake caused

:05:20. > :05:22.devastation on a massive scale. The home of the mother order said Sister

:05:23. > :05:25.Claire Crockett and the bodies of former others were found in the

:05:26. > :05:29.early hours of the morning at the school. The five women had been

:05:30. > :05:34.playing guitar and singing when the earthquake happened. Back home, the

:05:35. > :05:37.principle of the nun's former primary school said she would be

:05:38. > :05:43.remembered with great affection. Claire was here from 1987 to 1994

:05:44. > :05:47.and I would say she was a lovely youngster and the whole family have

:05:48. > :05:53.been at the school. They were a bubbly, nice family and Claire was

:05:54. > :05:58.the epitome of somebody who loved being at school. Big into her music

:05:59. > :06:03.and she was in every choir going, verse speaking, she was a great

:06:04. > :06:06.youngster. The Bishop of Derry said her loss would be felt especially

:06:07. > :06:12.amongst those whom she dedicated her life to over the years. A young

:06:13. > :06:16.woman of 33 who decided at the age of 18 she wanted to give her life in

:06:17. > :06:20.the service of people living in poverty and desperation to stop

:06:21. > :06:24.anywhere around the world that she would be sent. It is terribly sad

:06:25. > :06:29.for her family and I suppose for those out there it will be a huge

:06:30. > :06:32.loss of the ministry they had but our thoughts in a city like Jerry

:06:33. > :06:37.are always with those who are most sorely grieved, her parents, her

:06:38. > :06:43.sisters and those who would have grown up with her and will be

:06:44. > :06:46.terribly shocked by this awful loss of an energetic, charming young

:06:47. > :06:50.woman who wanted to do so much good in the world. Those who worked

:06:51. > :06:55.closely with Sister Claire described her as a joyful girl and a beautiful

:06:56. > :06:57.person. She will be remembered with deep affection.

:06:58. > :07:00.A man has appeared in court charged with a stabbing at a house in west

:07:01. > :07:04.It happened in Vere Foster Walk in the early hours

:07:05. > :07:08.Aidan Muir, who's 19 and from Springhill Grove

:07:09. > :07:11.in the city, faces charges of possessing an offensive weapon,

:07:12. > :07:14.burglary and causing grievous bodily harm.

:07:15. > :07:19.The 51-year-old man who was injured is in a critical condition

:07:20. > :07:26.One of the teenagers accused of beating Christopher Meli to death

:07:27. > :07:28.in west Belfast must remain in custody.

:07:29. > :07:32.A High Court judge rejected claims that 19-year-old Lee Smyth,

:07:33. > :07:35.of Colinbrook Gardens in Dunmurry, should be released because of delays

:07:36. > :07:40.Three teenagers have been charged with murdering the

:07:41. > :07:48.Thousands of parents have found out by letter where their children

:07:49. > :07:54.While the vast majority of children will be going to their chosen

:07:55. > :08:06.school, hundreds of parents were left disappointed..

:08:07. > :08:14.A break for lunch at this nursery school in Lisburn. Around 23,000

:08:15. > :08:20.children will be starting preschool like this in September. Of those,

:08:21. > :08:25.over 22,000 children got a place in school, nursery or playgroup chosen

:08:26. > :08:29.by their parents but 790 didn't get placed and their parents will now

:08:30. > :08:37.have two apply again. Parents like Downpatrick Mum, Karen. She didn't

:08:38. > :08:41.get into any of the four schools I selected. Those people who are on

:08:42. > :08:46.benefits, not ticking away from them, but they get first priority. I

:08:47. > :08:49.just feel as if those people that are working are discriminated

:08:50. > :08:52.against and it is the second time this has happened to me. My first

:08:53. > :08:57.child also didn't get into a school in Downpatrick and my parents had to

:08:58. > :09:02.drive the four miles every day to take her to a school in cross car.

:09:03. > :09:07.How are decisions made about who gets a place? Meshes kills

:09:08. > :09:10.playgroups and required by that branded education to admit children

:09:11. > :09:14.from socially disadvantaged backgrounds first. Then it can

:09:15. > :09:20.depend on things whether the children have had a sibling of the

:09:21. > :09:24.school or how far away they live. There is a big expectation that

:09:25. > :09:28.parents will get automatically the fresh school of their choice.

:09:29. > :09:34.Unfortunately that's not the case. And necessarily enough the school

:09:35. > :09:40.places in their area that the parent wants their child to go to. Barbara

:09:41. > :09:43.feels its 52 places every year and they would like to take more

:09:44. > :09:47.children. We are always oversubscribed. We get many phone

:09:48. > :09:50.calls after the letters have gone out. Much as we would like to take

:09:51. > :09:56.every child that applies, it is not possible. There is still some hope

:09:57. > :10:00.the disappointed parents. The education authorities say they are

:10:01. > :10:01.only halfway through the process and further decisions and places will be

:10:02. > :10:12.announced at the start of June. Back to our main story and the

:10:13. > :10:17.murder of Michael McGibbon. The police have released the 34-year-old

:10:18. > :10:22.man they were questioning. It is understood he was the Ardoyne

:10:23. > :10:36.Republican, Dee Fennell. Still to come on the programme:

:10:37. > :10:39.between the EU and South America, that could see huge

:10:40. > :10:45.The European Union is negotiating the terms and says it'll

:10:46. > :10:51.But the deal has been condemned locally as posing an unacceptable

:10:52. > :11:06.risk to an industry that's already under price pressure.

:11:07. > :11:12.The next generation of beef farmers learning the skills of the trade at

:11:13. > :11:17.agriculture College today. But these youngsters will have to survive in a

:11:18. > :11:19.much tougher business climate if the proposed

:11:20. > :11:22.much tougher business climate if the goes through. The European Union is

:11:23. > :11:28.in talks with a block of South American countries including Brazil,

:11:29. > :11:30.Argentina and Uruguay. We want to send

:11:31. > :11:36.Argentina and Uruguay. We want to financial services. You want to send

:11:37. > :11:43.us third, especially beef. Campbell Tweed is a beef and sheep farmer.

:11:44. > :11:49.us third, especially beef. Campbell has visited South America and their

:11:50. > :11:53.farms. The Uruguayans have very high health standards, they are rigorous

:11:54. > :12:02.in relation to any products that they use on the animal like

:12:03. > :12:03.antibiotic use. Unfortunately in Brazil and Argentina, they are

:12:04. > :12:11.antibiotic use. Unfortunately in more of a bulk operation. It

:12:12. > :12:15.antibiotic use. Unfortunately in high and sell cheap. That kind of

:12:16. > :12:17.book shipment, up to 78 thousand tonnes a year, and favourable

:12:18. > :12:23.currency exchange will make South American beef cheap and attractive

:12:24. > :12:28.to processors in Europe. While that could be good news for

:12:29. > :12:29.to processors in Europe. While that will drive down the price for

:12:30. > :12:34.European beef farmers. This deal will not go through without a fight,

:12:35. > :12:37.there's already opposition from lots of European countries about

:12:38. > :12:40.something that could impact on domestic beef production. The next

:12:41. > :12:45.stage in the negotiations take place in May. That will be watched closely

:12:46. > :12:52.by farmers already under price pressure here. We have already seen

:12:53. > :12:57.prices fall very substantially over the past number of months a been a

:12:58. > :13:02.steady decline. That situation is going to be made worse if more

:13:03. > :13:07.suppliers come onto the market. Europe says it will build in

:13:08. > :13:08.protections to the deal for the farmers, something they will be

:13:09. > :13:10.keeping a good eye on. Fermanagh and South Tyrone provided

:13:11. > :13:14.one of the most dramatic results in last year's Westminster election

:13:15. > :13:17.with Tom Elliott's surprise victory This constituency also had

:13:18. > :13:22.the closest contest Just 62 votes decided

:13:23. > :13:27.the final seat. As we countdown to May's ballot,

:13:28. > :13:30.our south west reporter Julian Fowler has been

:13:31. > :13:43.on the election trail. This is about as far away as you can

:13:44. > :13:47.get from the corridors of power at Stormont. From here it you can see

:13:48. > :13:51.all the way across the world Lough Erne and elections in the manner and

:13:52. > :13:58.South Tyrone are often as dramatic as the view. Last May Tom Elliott

:13:59. > :14:06.made the headlines here. One year on, the parties are back out

:14:07. > :14:09.canvassing for support. On the doorsteps, people are on first name

:14:10. > :14:14.terms with the First Minister. Arlene Foster has put in a new style

:14:15. > :14:19.of leadership but it will also be the substance of policies the DUP

:14:20. > :14:23.will be judged on at the polls. I want to look at the Hall of Northern

:14:24. > :14:27.Ireland and whether that is in respect to infrastructure or health

:14:28. > :14:31.or education, budgets, the fact we have kept household taxes low, all

:14:32. > :14:34.of those issues will have an impact across Northern Ireland and I want

:14:35. > :14:40.to make sure I am First Minister for everyone. Five years ago, Sinn Fein

:14:41. > :14:45.got three MLAs elected here. This time, they have four candidates

:14:46. > :14:49.after Michelle Gildernew was selected then dropped and selected

:14:50. > :14:54.again. At Westminster defeat, she says the assembly is the place to

:14:55. > :15:01.get things done. There's still a lot of issues this constituency, like

:15:02. > :15:07.broadband, infrastructure, a lot of businesses still struggling, health

:15:08. > :15:11.is still a massive issue. Not just our primary and acute services but

:15:12. > :15:17.our mental health services. The SDLP is hoping to win back the seat is

:15:18. > :15:21.lost by 62 votes in 2011. The party did well in the last local elections

:15:22. > :15:30.when Richie McPhillips won a council seat. He now has his sights set on

:15:31. > :15:36.Stormont. Cancel election results, we have six councillors, one in each

:15:37. > :15:40.of the constituency. If we can replicate and do better than that,

:15:41. > :15:45.we are in a very good chance of regaining the seat and that is our

:15:46. > :15:49.aim. The Ulster Unionist 's have two new SMB candidates who have been

:15:50. > :15:52.getting to know the dogs in the street. There are hoping to build on

:15:53. > :15:56.their success in the General Election. This time it doesn't have

:15:57. > :16:01.the Tom Elliott on the ballot paper who has been there since 2003 so

:16:02. > :16:07.this time I am one of the new kids on the block. That is the message

:16:08. > :16:10.but I'm getting on the door, people are delighted to see someone new

:16:11. > :16:15.coming on the scene and I am hoping we can gather up that support. With

:16:16. > :16:18.a history of close results, this year 's election in Fermanagh and

:16:19. > :16:21.South Tyrone is set to be another cliffhanger.

:16:22. > :16:26.There's a list of all the candidates in Fermanagh and South Tyrone

:16:27. > :16:29.on our news website along with analysis of the

:16:30. > :16:35.In football, Rangers fans are celebrating victory

:16:36. > :16:38.over their traditional rivals Celtic in the Scottish Cup

:16:39. > :16:43.Rangers may have been four years in the lower leagues but the game

:16:44. > :16:47.demonstrated that once again they are a match for Celtic.

:16:48. > :16:50.BBC Newsline's Mark Simpson has been hearing from local fans

:16:51. > :17:04.Celtic were the hot favourites. Rangers, the underdogs. But after a

:17:05. > :17:14.2-2 draw, it all came down to penalty kicks. This is the moment

:17:15. > :17:18.when the match was won and lost. He makes a real mess of that penalty

:17:19. > :17:23.and Rangers have pulled off the seemingly un-thinkable. And

:17:24. > :17:28.thinkable because Rangers went bust four years ago. There were demoted

:17:29. > :17:33.to Scottish football's lowest league but beating Celtic in a cup

:17:34. > :17:35.semifinal completed their comeback to the big-time. No wonder their

:17:36. > :17:42.fans were so happy, including many from Belfast. I am so proud of the

:17:43. > :17:48.boys out there. The bar has been raised and we are back, we will win

:17:49. > :17:53.the league next year 100%. It's an exciting time to be a Rangers fan.

:17:54. > :17:57.Of course there are not just Rangers fans in Belfast, there are tens of

:17:58. > :18:01.thousands of Celtic fans too. Let's talk to one of them, the journalist

:18:02. > :18:08.and Celtic share holder, Hugh Jordan. The elected 3-0 to Celtic

:18:09. > :18:13.yesterday? I did but you win some, you lose some! Is the mood among

:18:14. > :18:20.Celtic supporters today? Shock? I would say shock is not a bad

:18:21. > :18:24.interpretation. We did not anticipate how good Rangers were,

:18:25. > :18:29.they were excellent yesterday. I wouldn't go as far as Noel Johnson

:18:30. > :18:32.who said he wasn't sure if he was watching Rangers or Barcelona. That

:18:33. > :18:37.was a bit over the top! I am sure the Celtic responsible be commencing

:18:38. > :18:45.with the threat that Rangers now clearly pose. Some Celtic fans are

:18:46. > :18:49.beaming -- blaming the pitch. Watch how the ball moved before the

:18:50. > :18:52.crucial penalty. Here it is again. For Celtic, it just wasn't there a

:18:53. > :18:54.day. The celebrated aristocrat

:18:55. > :18:58.from County Monaghan, Sir John Leslie, has died

:18:59. > :19:00.at the age of 99. Sir Jack, as he was called,

:19:01. > :19:03.was one of Ireland's last surviving He served as an officer

:19:04. > :19:09.in the Irish Guards and last year he was honoured by France

:19:10. > :19:11.for his bravery with He passed away this morning

:19:12. > :19:15.at his home Castle BBC Radio Ulster's School Choir

:19:16. > :19:21.of the Year final was held at the Ulster Hall in Belfast

:19:22. > :19:25.yesterday and winners came After nine weeks of competition,

:19:26. > :19:37.Dalriada School in Ballymoney won St Patrick's Primary,

:19:38. > :19:44.Drumgreenagh, Rathfriland won the junior prize in their first

:19:45. > :19:57.attempt at the competition. We had the best day ever, a dream

:19:58. > :20:01.come true. We all had to pinch ourselves several times on the way

:20:02. > :20:07.home on the bus. The four judges, to hear the lovely compliments and

:20:08. > :20:15.comments that they give the quire really was very special. What I love

:20:16. > :20:16.about singing is, we get to learn a variety of songs. We get out of

:20:17. > :20:24.class a lot. To more winners next in the world

:20:25. > :20:29.of sport and Thomas Niblock has news about Jonathan Rea and he had a good

:20:30. > :20:32.day at the office this weekend. Yes - Jonathan Rea has

:20:33. > :20:38.increased his lead at the top of the World Superbikes standings

:20:39. > :20:41.after victory in both races at Assin Rea's victory in Sunday's second

:20:42. > :20:46.race was a tactical triumph. The track had dried out after a wet

:20:47. > :20:51.start and Rea and Kawasaki team-mate Tom Sykes opted to came in earlier

:20:52. > :20:57.than their rivals for a tyre change. It was a decisive move as Rea went

:20:58. > :21:13.on to win by two seconds, In the beginning, I tried to ride as

:21:14. > :21:16.slow as possible because the track was starting to dry faster in some

:21:17. > :21:22.places so I wanted to be safe. I decided to come in early and the

:21:23. > :21:24.places so I wanted to be safe. I guys were confused in the pits

:21:25. > :21:29.because they were asking what tower I wanted. I just took my time in the

:21:30. > :21:32.beginning and managed the race. I am so happy, they double win.

:21:33. > :21:34.It was a good weekend for Ulster rugby- specifically Tommy Bowe.

:21:35. > :21:37.The Ireland international hasn't played since the World Cup

:21:38. > :21:40.in October because of injury- but marked his return to action

:21:41. > :21:43.with two tries in the 47-17 win against Zebra.

:21:44. > :21:45.So where does that win leave Ulster Rugby with only

:21:46. > :21:50.Les Kiss side are currently 4th in the Pro 12 league table,

:21:51. > :21:53.if they remain in that position until the end of the season,

:21:54. > :21:55.they will qualify for the semi-finals What's also

:21:56. > :21:58.important for Ulster rugby, is qualifying for the European

:21:59. > :22:03.To guarantee that position, they have to finish in the top six,

:22:04. > :22:09.meaning as it stands- the Irish province to miss out

:22:10. > :22:11.on European rugby next season would be Munster.
