:01:17. > :01:24.First tonight the news that BHS is going into administration -
:01:25. > :01:30.Once a stalwart of the high street, the chain has struggled
:01:31. > :01:33.to find its place in the internet age.
:01:34. > :01:37.BHS has four local stores in Belfast, Holywood,
:01:38. > :01:42.They'll continue to trade for now as the administrator
:01:43. > :01:58.This afternoon, and unwelcome addition to window displays, the
:01:59. > :01:59.official notice it had gone into administration.
:02:00. > :02:02.BHS has been around since the 1920s and has been in Northern Ireland
:02:03. > :02:07.Its central Belfast shop was bombed more than onece during
:02:08. > :02:22.Do you think these bombing attacks will put BHS of? Certainly not.
:02:23. > :02:25.In recent years, it has struggled to move with the times.
:02:26. > :02:28.The business has suffered from a lack of investment and an uncertain
:02:29. > :02:31.It sells many clothes and homewares but
:02:32. > :02:33.competitors like Marks Spencer's or Debenhams do the same things
:02:34. > :02:45.There is much more choice on the high street and at the same price
:02:46. > :02:49.point. There is so much work to offer, the likes of Ikea have
:02:50. > :03:04.definitely affected BHS into sales. I pop in because there is an offer
:03:05. > :03:10.in the window but generally, I wouldn't go there. It's not a
:03:11. > :03:16.high-street brand, not somewhere I would go to shop. It's sad, like all
:03:17. > :03:19.the other department stores, it's just a pity to see it closing down.
:03:20. > :03:22.Last year the entire debt laden business
:03:23. > :03:23.was bought by a group of
:03:24. > :03:27.Realistically, they needed to spend tens of
:03:28. > :03:29.millions more to revitalise the chain.
:03:30. > :03:33.But they have not been able to come up with the money.
:03:34. > :03:37.The company also has a huge pension deficit, the cost of that is now
:03:38. > :03:43.This is the biggest retail failure since
:03:44. > :03:45.the Woolworths chain went under in 2008.
:03:46. > :03:47.It was another business which
:03:48. > :03:52.was unable to deal with the competitors.
:03:53. > :03:55.The high street has actually seen something of a
:03:56. > :03:57.revival in the last year or so as low fuel
:03:58. > :03:59.prices mean consumers have
:04:00. > :04:02.more money to spend in the shops but the failure
:04:03. > :04:04.of BHS is a reminder of
:04:05. > :04:08.just how intense the competition remains especially as online
:04:09. > :04:18.The widow of a murdered UDR soldier has accused the Ministry of Defence
:04:19. > :04:22.of jumping on her husband's grave over its refusal to
:04:23. > :04:29.Eileen Johnston lost her widows pension when she remarried in 1985 -
:04:30. > :04:32.eight years after her husband David Graham was murdered
:04:33. > :04:57.Every day, if I smelt his perspiration, I felt he was with me.
:04:58. > :05:00.It is a cherished possession which brings back painful memories for
:05:01. > :05:07.Eileen and her daughter. The UDR beret her husband David once war. He
:05:08. > :05:11.was murdered by the IRA in 1977 while working in this and yard in
:05:12. > :05:15.call Ireland. He was shot and died ten days later in hospital. Eileen
:05:16. > :05:20.was better to bring up their three children. She received a widow 's
:05:21. > :05:24.pension but eight years later, her pension was stopped when she
:05:25. > :05:29.remarried. I was in the procedure of getting over the murder of my
:05:30. > :05:36.husband and it is just a total shock. There is no other words I
:05:37. > :05:42.could use for it. I thought I had enough in my life without this big
:05:43. > :05:45.shock on top of that. 39 years after losing her first husband, she is
:05:46. > :05:49.still fighting with the Ministry of Defence to get her pension back. In
:05:50. > :05:56.a statement, the MoD said pensions for widows who were remarried will
:05:57. > :06:04.stay suspended until a current volition ship declines.
:06:05. > :06:18.That is shocking. Shocking for an organisation such as the MoD to say
:06:19. > :06:22.something so demoralising. Are they saying, go and end your relationship
:06:23. > :06:26.just to get your pension back? They should never have lost the pension
:06:27. > :06:30.in the first kiss. The rules have now changed, from last year, all
:06:31. > :06:36.Army widows will keep their pensions even if they remarried but here's
:06:37. > :06:39.the problem, only those who marry after 2005 will qualify. That is
:06:40. > :06:42.because the MoD says to go back beyond that year would cost the
:06:43. > :06:48.public purse on hundred million pounds. I would like to do more
:06:49. > :06:55.where that is coming from but at the end of the day, a life, there should
:06:56. > :06:58.never be a cost put on any body 's life. It really does beat me very
:06:59. > :07:04.angry. I feel as if they have walked on my husband 's brave. Eileen is
:07:05. > :07:10.not alone, at least 30 other UDR widows who have remarried and lost
:07:11. > :07:16.their pensions. Hard to believe, 39 years. Their case has been taken up
:07:17. > :07:19.by the victims commissioner. She told a committee of MPs that the
:07:20. > :07:27.matter needs to be looked at. Those who do remarry, they are still
:07:28. > :07:34.widows, that has not changed. I think it is a matter of equality and
:07:35. > :07:38.basic humanity. It is one I believe should be addressed. The families
:07:39. > :07:41.said they are pleased their case is finally reaching Westminster and
:07:42. > :07:43.Eileen says she is now hopeful of getting her pension back.
:07:44. > :07:46.Two men in their 40s have been arrested in connection
:07:47. > :07:50.with the murder of a man who went missing seven years ago.

:10:11. > :10:15.reason, he got almost 7,000 votes in the General Election and rivals
:10:16. > :10:19.concede he is by and for Stormont. We offer politics which is about
:10:20. > :10:23.people power, standing up to these cutbacks which will devastate
:10:24. > :10:26.communities and especially devastated west Buckfast with
:10:27. > :10:31.benefit cuts, job cuts, cuts across the public sector so our message is
:10:32. > :10:36.whether you are from the Falls Road or the shack Neville Road, our tub
:10:37. > :10:40.of politics brings people together and makes the argument that
:10:41. > :10:45.corporations should pay working-class committees. Who's
:10:46. > :10:50.please might he take? This man once Sinn Fein's seat last time but he is
:10:51. > :10:57.conceding nothing. This is one of our strongest areas right across
:10:58. > :11:01.Ireland. The fact that we hold five seats in the constituency is
:11:02. > :11:08.testimony to the level of support that exists here. Being realistic,
:11:09. > :11:14.that the defeat will always be on a knife edge, even on a good day, we
:11:15. > :11:17.might possibly lose it, it depends on vote management and getting our
:11:18. > :11:29.borders out on the day. The other seat in jeopardy belongs to this
:11:30. > :11:33.Stormont better. The SDLP is just running a single candidate now and
:11:34. > :11:37.even that carries no guarantees. The pressure for the SDLP is to get our
:11:38. > :11:42.vote out, to ensure there is a strong SDLP boys for this
:11:43. > :11:47.constituency in the assembly and critically, in the negotiations that
:11:48. > :11:52.will define the life of the next five years of the assembly which
:11:53. > :11:57.start in the middle of May where the SDLP and not independence will be in
:11:58. > :12:01.the room for the people of West Belfast and for the protection of
:12:02. > :12:07.public services. DUP so badly wants to take back the seat is last one
:12:08. > :12:13.here 13 years ago. The party launched its manifesto in the
:12:14. > :12:16.constituency. Franck Ribery to be a member of the Ulster Democratic
:12:17. > :12:19.party, it is hoped they will tap into the Loyalist working class vote
:12:20. > :12:25.in the way the DUP has not always managed. The goal of the party to
