:01:06. > :01:07.his beloved Celtic fans. And it's been a fairly dry start
:01:08. > :01:10.to the week, I'll be back with details of how the rest
:01:11. > :01:15.of the week is shaping up. Detectives investigating the murder
:01:16. > :01:18.of a man at the weekend have been granted a further 24 hours

:01:24. > :01:27.in Londonderry died after a stabbing He was 24 years old and
:01:28. > :01:35.the father of a little girl. Our north west reporter
:01:36. > :01:50.Keiron Tourish has been speaking Gerard Quinn was assaulted around
:01:51. > :01:53.10pm on Saturday night. It is understood he suffered a wound to
:01:54. > :02:01.his neck. He was taken from the scene of the accident to Altnagelvin
:02:02. > :02:03.hospital. But later died. His twin brother was also assaulted and
:02:04. > :02:08.treated for injuries but later released. A 16-year-old youth was
:02:09. > :02:13.arrested following the murder and is being questioned by detectives. The
:02:14. > :02:19.family are devastated by their loss. Gerard Quinn was a father of one, a
:02:20. > :02:25.daughter, who was two years old. They are a big family in these areas
:02:26. > :02:28.and they are very well known. My reaction was that this was a
:02:29. > :02:33.terrible events to have happened, a horrible thing to have happened and
:02:34. > :02:36.that is what all the people in the community are saying because they
:02:37. > :02:39.know the family and this is a devastation for the family. It is
:02:40. > :02:44.believed there was a party going on here at the time of the incident.
:02:45. > :02:51.One neighbour said he tried to save Gerard Quinn 's wife. I just saw
:02:52. > :02:57.this body lying at the wall. I ran in and got a couple of clots. I was
:02:58. > :03:03.keeping pressure on his neck and the cops then turned up and straightaway
:03:04. > :03:08.I started CPR. He went to the hospital with a pulse and he was
:03:09. > :03:12.fighting for his life. I will never get over this. Those who knew Gerard
:03:13. > :03:19.Quinn described him as fun loving and popular. The minute he came in
:03:20. > :03:23.the room, you knew he was there. Especially at the football in the
:03:24. > :03:28.changing rooms, you get a lot of banter flying and Gerard was always
:03:29. > :03:34.involved in that, always giving sick and taking stick, just fun loving.
:03:35. > :03:46.That is how I picture him. Everybody knows everybody so the whole estate
:03:47. > :03:51.are just devastated, number and just speechless. Nobody can't wait to get
:03:52. > :03:54.in. That view was reflected throughout the estate.

:03:58. > :04:00.teenager is to be referred to the Appeal Court on the grounds
:04:01. > :04:06.The move by the Public Prosecution Service concerns the case

:04:10. > :04:15.Kevin Magee has been speaking to his father who has asked
:04:16. > :04:30.I agree with you, something has to be done in the courts. Enda Dolan's
:04:31. > :04:33.father reads from some of the many messages of support he has received
:04:34. > :04:38.since his son's killer was sentenced. To let you know that we
:04:39. > :04:45.as a family know how you are feeling and support you all the way in
:04:46. > :04:48.fighting for justice system. Musician and sportsmen Enda Dolan
:04:49. > :04:52.was knocked down and killed by a drunk tripper as he walked back to
:04:53. > :05:00.his Queens University accommodation in October 2014. David Lee Stewart
:05:01. > :05:04.had consumed 13 alcoholic drinks when his van mounted the pavement,
:05:05. > :05:09.killing the teenager. Last month he was given a seven-year sentence of
:05:10. > :05:13.which he will spend half in jail and the remainder on licence. Heater at
:05:14. > :05:21.once the maximum sentence for drunk drivers because increased. We have
:05:22. > :05:29.had 108 MLAs appointed to our assembly. We will throw down the
:05:30. > :05:35.conflict to those MLAs and ask them to change the sentencing from 14
:05:36. > :05:42.years to 20 years. There is no reason why that cannot be done. It's
:05:43. > :05:49.important. There is no deterrent for anybody drinking and driving and 14
:05:50. > :05:53.years maximum sentence is not sufficient under the current law.
:05:54. > :05:58.Politicians at Stormont could change the law of the political will
:05:59. > :06:03.exists. The issue of changing the law and sentencing is in the
:06:04. > :06:06.competence of the assembly. If we increase the sentence, it sends a
:06:07. > :06:10.message to the judges that there is an expectation on the part of the
:06:11. > :06:15.public how sentences will begin but it does remain with the individual
:06:16. > :06:17.judge on every case. The Public Prosecution Service had been
:06:18. > :06:22.considering whether or not it should refer the sentence in this case to
:06:23. > :06:26.the Court of Appeal. Late this afternoon it announced it will be
:06:27. > :06:29.using its powers to try and have the sentence looked at on the basis that
:06:30. > :06:33.it was and uniquely named. If the Court of Appeal agreed to this

:07:01. > :07:06.Armagh, Alan Black arrives for the opening of a fresh inquest into the
:07:07. > :07:11.death of his friends. Although badly injured, Mr Black was the only
:07:12. > :07:15.survivor of what became known as the Kingsmills massacre when ten absent
:07:16. > :07:20.factory workers were shot dead as they made their way home. We have
:07:21. > :07:24.fought long and hard for this. There have been so many obstacles put in
:07:25. > :07:31.our way and thanks to these people here, they have got over each one
:07:32. > :07:35.and really, this is a red letter day for us, to finally get our day in
:07:36. > :07:40.court. The fight for a fresh inquest has lasted for decades. The families
:07:41. > :07:45.eventually persuaded the authorities that there was new and significant
:07:46. > :07:52.evidence including that honoured by a report which blamed the IRA. There
:07:53. > :07:54.are still people out there withholding information. Either they
:07:55. > :07:59.are too scared to come forward and you have to respect that, but I
:08:00. > :08:04.would still appeal for them to come forward at this late stage. You can
:08:05. > :08:08.hurt nobody at the end of the day and that is what we are striving
:08:09. > :08:14.for, the truth. This afternoon, one by one, the next of kin took to the
:08:15. > :08:18.stand is their loved ones and tell how their cruel death affected the
:08:19. > :08:21.lives of those left behind. Most of the harrowing detail we had heard
:08:22. > :08:25.before like Howell, believing strongly that the gang intended to
:08:26. > :08:31.kill the only Catholic on the bus, the men had refused to betray him.
:08:32. > :08:36.How Alan Black Labour need the dead and dying and how among the moans
:08:37. > :08:40.and cries of pain at the dishes order had been barked out, finished
:08:41. > :08:45.them off. All of this was learned a new poignancy as it was said out
:08:46. > :08:49.loud in a courtroom. The inquest is expected to last at least a month or
:08:50. > :08:50.six weeks with Alan Black due to give his evidence as early as
:08:51. > :08:53.Wednesday. A Northern Ireland woman has been
:08:54. > :08:56.jailed for failing to tell the authorities her husband
:08:57. > :09:00.was about to join the so called She was among a group of friends
:09:01. > :09:05.from Walsall in England who planned to bring up their children under
:09:06. > :09:19.the Caliphate in Syria. Mother of three Lorna Mara from the
:09:20. > :09:24.Mountjoy area near, was tried at the Old Bailey in London. Today she was
:09:25. > :09:28.jailed for 2.5 years preparing to tell the authorities that her
:09:29. > :09:33.husband was about to join the militant group, so-called Islamic
:09:34. > :09:38.State. Her husband was part of a large network that had heeded the
:09:39. > :09:43.militants calls for volunteers in 2014. The police say 12 people from
:09:44. > :09:50.Walsall in the West Midlands went or try to get to Syria that year. The
:09:51. > :09:53.four-year-old mirror, was planning to take her three young children to
:09:54. > :09:57.the war zones including an 11-month-old baby. During sentencing
:09:58. > :10:01.at the Old Bailey, the judge described her as a very strong
:10:02. > :10:05.character and said she knew perfectly well of her husband 's
:10:06. > :10:08.dedication to terrorism. The judge added that one of the troubling
:10:09. > :10:13.things about the Tyrone woman of the facility were telling lies. He said
:10:14. > :10:14.she had told lie after lie to the jury during her trial and that some
:10:15. > :10:18.of the evidence was nonsense. The motorcycle racer Ryan Farquhar

:10:47. > :10:52.with Stephen Watson, McIlroy who won the Irish Open yesterday,
:10:53. > :11:06.said he was closely monitoring news Rory McIlroy told me today he is
:11:07. > :11:11.monitoring physical barriers very carefully and may not to real if the
:11:12. > :11:16.barriers which is linked to reign of deformities in newborn babies get
:11:17. > :11:20.any worse. He won the Irish open yesterday and today brought the
:11:21. > :11:26.trophy here where amongst other things, he visited Ireland hockey
:11:27. > :11:29.team and for real and says he is reevaluating whether he will be on
:11:30. > :11:33.the plane this summer. I have been reading a lot of reports about the
:11:34. > :11:37.Zika virus. I know some articles have said it might be worse than
:11:38. > :11:43.what they are saying so I have to monitor the situation as well.
:11:44. > :11:48.There's going to be a point in time where we are going to have to start
:11:49. > :11:52.thinking of starting a family so I don't want anything to affect that.
:11:53. > :11:56.I am ready to go to the Olympics and go to real and try to compete for a
:11:57. > :12:01.gold medal. Is there a chance you might not go if that gets worse?
:12:02. > :12:09.Yes, I am getting my injections on Wednesday for last so at least I
:12:10. > :12:15.will be immunised if I do get bitten by a mosquito! Right now, I am going

:12:24. > :12:26.of three young people in north Belfast on Saturday afternoon
:12:27. > :12:30.as a sectarian hate crime. They were attacked
:12:31. > :12:33.on the Ardoyne Road. One of the victims, who's 13 years
:12:34. > :12:48.old, says he now doesn't feel safe They said, where are you from? We
:12:49. > :12:54.just ignored them. They said, are you dirty we Protestants? I said,
:12:55. > :12:58.what has got to do if you? They walked up behind us and started to
:12:59. > :13:03.punch us. They pushed me up against a wall and my head and started
:13:04. > :13:05.punching me in the face. It makes Beefeater annoyed that I cannot go

:13:12. > :13:17.The First Minister says she is confident of forming a government
:13:18. > :13:28.despite concerns of the appointment of a justice minister. That is not
:13:29. > :13:32.something we have really considered at this point in time. There will be
:13:33. > :13:33.a government, there will be a minister and we're looking forward

:13:48. > :13:51.were reported in a year and a number of the people sought help did
:13:52. > :13:55.so on more than one occasion. The figures are part
:13:56. > :13:58.of the Chief Medical Officer's annual report which reflects

:14:21. > :14:24.is, they are using this as a means but it's not coming through the
:14:25. > :14:27.system and will not show up as statistics so it's hard to give an
:14:28. > :14:32.accurate view of the prevalence of this sort of thing. What we can be
:14:33. > :14:33.sure of is that the numbers presented here are the tip of the
:14:34. > :14:34.iceberg. Demand for foster care has reached
:14:35. > :14:37.an all time high with an appeal The award of Foster Carer
:14:38. > :14:43.of the Year has been given to a couple who look after 5 boys,
:14:44. > :15:08.including 2 sets of siblings There is very little time for rest
:15:09. > :15:12.in the house. This couple posture five boys. The eldest has been with
:15:13. > :15:17.them for 15 years. The line-up includes two sets of brothers and
:15:18. > :15:24.all have health problems. Each boy does have complex needs and it has
:15:25. > :15:28.been tough over the last number of years but you wouldn't be without
:15:29. > :15:32.them. That is why we do it. When you see a child coming through that
:15:33. > :15:37.door, standing harrowing in the corner and that is what they do. Of
:15:38. > :15:39.course they are frightened and you see them progress. The more you
:15:40. > :15:44.listen to them, the more you make them feel like they are in a normal
:15:45. > :15:48.environment and a star to settle down. That is why we do it. The
:15:49. > :15:53.youngest child has a serious heart condition. Then travelled with him
:15:54. > :16:00.to Birmingham for surgery, a trip that lasted 16 weeks. You treat them
:16:01. > :16:05.like you own, how can you not? You get so close to them and they tell
:16:06. > :16:10.you they love them. It's a nice feeling. Around 2150 children across
:16:11. > :16:16.Northern Ireland are living with over 2000 foster families. Or carers
:16:17. > :16:21.are required but the assessment system is often criticised for being
:16:22. > :16:25.too slow. There are a series of checks and a rigorous assessment
:16:26. > :16:28.process and it's really important that all our services work together
:16:29. > :16:33.to make sure that happens in a way that is timely and expedited in a
:16:34. > :16:39.way that makes sure we can meet at 170 target every year. This couple
:16:40. > :16:43.'s two children are now grown up but keeping on the family tradition,
:16:44. > :16:46.their son and his wife have recently been accepted as foster carers.

:17:33. > :17:35.McIlroy, who donated his prize fund of over ?500,000,
:17:36. > :17:42.reflected on yesterday's memorable triumph with Stephen Watson.
:17:43. > :17:48.It was nice to enjoy the win last night and celebrate with my friends
:17:49. > :17:52.and family and try not to cry! I was trying not to look up at the
:17:53. > :17:59.hospitality suite because I knew my friends and family were up there and
:18:00. > :18:03.I know how much it meant to my parents that I won the Aaron
:18:04. > :18:10.Shotton. It's something I have dreams about for a long, long time.
:18:11. > :18:16.Even now I am getting emotional. It all sort of hit me. I had a few
:18:17. > :18:21.moments on the 18th green to try to think about it all and for it to pan
:18:22. > :18:24.out the way it did, we couldn't have scripted it any better. How
:18:25. > :18:27.important is it for you that the tournament returns to Northern
:18:28. > :18:32.Ireland next year? It is huge. Have a nice little thing going here where
:18:33. > :18:36.the Irish Open goes north on year, sell the next year. It would be
:18:37. > :18:40.unfair to keep it in the same place every year because then the whole
:18:41. > :18:45.country don't get to experience what it's like so Portstewart is for sure
:18:46. > :18:50.good enough golf course to host the Aaron Shotton. That front of
:18:51. > :18:55.Portstewart is probably one of the best nine holes in the world, it's
:18:56. > :18:59.incredible. I would love to bring it to a links course and we're looking
:19:00. > :19:01.at a few courses but Portstewart is one we are taking very series.
:19:02. > :19:03.Rory also spent some time today with the Northern Ireland football
:19:04. > :19:06.squad heading to Euro 2016.We'll have an exclusive feature
:19:07. > :19:08.on what he had to share with Michael O'Neill's team
:19:09. > :19:15.Brendan Rodgers has pledged to Celtic fans that the club
:19:16. > :19:18.will dominate Scottish football and enjoy success in Europe.
:19:19. > :19:22.Today he held his first press conference since being appointed
:19:23. > :19:38.From early morning, this city has been awash with Brendan Rodgers
:19:39. > :19:42.denier. At 3:30, the man from Carnlough drove up Celtic Way, got
:19:43. > :19:49.out of a big fan and it was then off to meet the media where he gave a
:19:50. > :19:52.commanding performance. There was a draw for me here. Celtic is one of
:19:53. > :19:57.the biggest clubs in the world and for me to come out of the Premier
:19:58. > :20:02.League to come here, it certainly not a step down. This is one of the
:20:03. > :20:05.great clubs of the world, it's an institution in its own right suffer
:20:06. > :20:09.me to come here, it is a huge honour and privilege to be able to come and
:20:10. > :20:16.manage Celtic. I know the first thing you did today was to go pitch
:20:17. > :20:19.side and meet the fans. As you sit here now and they had the privilege
:20:20. > :20:25.of this job, what is your message to Celtic fans? The message is that we
:20:26. > :20:30.will do our very best. I am here because of them. I have been a
:20:31. > :20:35.Celtic supporter all my life. I am very lucky now to have been given
:20:36. > :20:39.the opportunity to step out of the stands and the sideline and manage
:20:40. > :20:43.the team. Hopefully they will understand that when you have that
:20:44. > :20:47.passion and emotion involved in a club, myself, the staff and the
:20:48. > :20:52.players will do all we can to meet the challenges that are set for us
:20:53. > :21:01.and that is to dominate here in Scotland and to qualify for the
:21:02. > :21:06.Champions League. Without, we need. So the Brendan Rodgers era has
:21:07. > :21:07.officially begun. The man has passed the media examination but
:21:08. > :21:50.ultimately, bigger tests lie ahead. Tyrone had this game won in the
:21:51. > :22:04.first half with a 3-goal blitz that rocked Derry. A second from London
:22:05. > :22:14.O'Neill soon followed. With a crucial third just before half-time,
:22:15. > :22:21.to put Tyrone well clear. That is how you do it. It is Mickey Harte,
:22:22. > :22:27.it is Tyrone. The game over? Derry 's attempted to strike back in the
:22:28. > :22:31.second half proved fruitless. Seeing red with a stray elbow. The
:22:32. > :22:36.qualifiers now I wait while Tyrone advanced to the semifinals of the
:22:37. > :22:38.Ulster championship. Goals are very important in championship matches
:22:39. > :22:48.and we got the goals in the first half. To be great but to get three
:22:49. > :22:53.probably one begin for us. That was going to guarantee success. I have
:22:54. > :22:58.to accept responsibility in terms of the hall package. Emotionally and
:22:59. > :23:02.physically, where we write? 11 points deficit and pulling up at the
:23:03. > :23:08.end, I think we are better than that. It was Mickey Harte's 250th
:23:09. > :23:12.game in charge. There have been a few more comfortable victories. Now
:23:13. > :23:15.face cavern or Armagh for a place in the final.
:23:16. > :23:17.In the World Rally Championship Kris Meeke picked up a comfortable
:23:18. > :23:21.Meeke finished almost thirty seconds ahead of his nearest rival.
:23:22. > :23:24.The Dungannon man is not competing in every rally this season,
:23:25. > :23:26.as his Citroen team develops a new car for 2017,
:23:27. > :23:30.which made his win all the more encouraging.
:23:31. > :23:32.Finally Carrick Rangers have confirmed they have accepted
:23:33. > :23:35.the resignation of manager Gary Haveron and his
:23:36. > :23:40.Don't forget tomorrow we have Rory McIlroy and the Northern
:23:41. > :23:55.The weather is next. The heavy downpours of the weekend
:23:56. > :24:02.are well behind us but despite that, it was still nice at times in the
:24:03. > :24:06.sun. This picture taken over the weekend just proves how the sun can
:24:07. > :24:09.make the difference. This week we're looking at a much quieter
:24:10. > :24:12.conditions. We will have a lot of settled weather and a lot of dry
:24:13. > :24:16.weather as well. Quite funny tomorrow but by the end of the week,
:24:17. > :24:19.more cloud and a few showers particularly in the East but compare
:24:20. > :24:25.to the weekend, it will be much drier. Good news for a lot of
:24:26. > :24:28.farmers. The cloudy skies we had earlier, the cloud is already
:24:29. > :24:33.breaking up so more in the way of sunshine with this evening. Quite
:24:34. > :24:36.clear tonight and as a result, quite chilly reports of Tyrone and
:24:37. > :24:40.Fermanagh. Temperatures could be low enough for a touch of Frost on the
:24:41. > :24:45.grass. First thing tomorrow, a little bit cool but the sun is up
:24:46. > :24:51.early and it will not be too long before it warms up. A lot of warm
:24:52. > :24:57.and sunny weather. Worst thing, a little bit cool in places. Some mist
:24:58. > :25:01.around as well but not too long before we see double figures and
:25:02. > :25:06.we're looking at plenty of fine, dry, bright weather through the day.
:25:07. > :25:11.And yet sunshine as well. Strong sunshine, remember that.
:25:12. > :25:16.Temperatures in the highest up to 17 or 18 degrees. One to showers are
:25:17. > :25:21.possible but they will be few or far between. Another fine evening
:25:22. > :25:24.tomorrow. Try light again, a little bit cool in the countryside and as
:25:25. > :25:31.we move into Wednesday, are still looking at any drive weather. So the
:25:32. > :25:34.easterly breeze as well. Probably not as much sunshine compared to
:25:35. > :25:35.tomorrow so temperatures will be lower and towards the end of the
:25:36. > :25:39.week, just one or two showers.
