:00:07. > :00:11.A man and his two young children were seriously injured

:00:12. > :00:16.when they were struck by lightning in Lisburn today.

:00:17. > :00:18.The father was walking with his seven-year-old daughter

:00:19. > :00:21.and five-year-old son to their car just outside the school gate,

:00:22. > :00:36.Children here at Killowen Primary School had just enjoyed their annual

:00:37. > :00:42.Sportsday when tragedy unfolded. Two pupils and their father were leaving

:00:43. > :00:46.the school when a lightning bolt struck just yards from their car.

:00:47. > :00:51.Paramedics and police rushed to the scene. Among parents, there is a

:00:52. > :00:55.sense of disbelief. It is terrible. The children are all upset. He is

:00:56. > :01:04.even scared to go to school tomorrow. It is just awful news.

:01:05. > :01:12.There was a man struck. You wondered, do I know this person? You

:01:13. > :01:17.just don't know. I was running in and out of the rain to my father's.

:01:18. > :01:22.It could happen to anyone of us. Parents and staff rushed to help the

:01:23. > :01:25.injured and emergency services attended the victims. In a

:01:26. > :01:29.statement, the principal of the school said the thoughts of the

:01:30. > :01:36.entire school community were with the family at this time. A sentiment

:01:37. > :01:41.echoed by local politicians. They are at a very critical stage saw our

:01:42. > :01:47.thoughts and prayers are with them. The family are well known in the

:01:48. > :01:54.community. Obviously, a lot of people are talking about it. It is

:01:55. > :01:58.just tragic news, the father just came down to pick up his children.

:01:59. > :02:05.The emergency services responded quickly. It is just tragic, but we

:02:06. > :02:11.as a council will do our best, whatever we can do in order to try

:02:12. > :02:16.and help the family. The man remains in a critical condition in hospital,

:02:17. > :02:18.as does his five-year-old son. His seven-year-old daughter is also

:02:19. > :02:21.being treated and is described as stable.

:02:22. > :02:24.The panel set up to look at paramilitary activity says

:02:25. > :02:27.a new decommissioning scheme should be set up to deal with any

:02:28. > :02:30.groups wanting to put their arms beyond use.

:02:31. > :02:32.The suggestion is one of 43 recommendations made by the panel,

:02:33. > :02:37.last year's Fresh Start political agreement.

:02:38. > :02:46.Our Political Editor, Mark Devenport, reports from Stormont.

:02:47. > :02:53.The 43 recommendations from this independent panel include a number

:02:54. > :02:56.of carrots and sticks. Amongst the carrots, that new decommissioning

:02:57. > :03:01.scheme and also suggestions that ex-prisoners should get assistance

:03:02. > :03:06.in finding employment -- implement. The sticks include cutting down on

:03:07. > :03:10.giving bail to serious offenders and reviewing what are thought to be

:03:11. > :03:17.unduly lenient sentences in cases of terrorism. A lawyer says that in

:03:18. > :03:21.future he wants to see paramilitaries treated much more

:03:22. > :03:25.like criminals. A lot of what we are seeing in the Palin -- paramilitary

:03:26. > :03:30.groupings are something organised crime groupings, living within the

:03:31. > :03:36.wider paramilitary style grouping and using the name of the grouping

:03:37. > :03:39.as a badge of convenience, or an enhancing of the power and influence

:03:40. > :03:45.in the criminality they are involved with. That must all cease, and the

:03:46. > :03:49.organised crime group legislation will target those organised crime

:03:50. > :03:53.groups within the communities and we think that is what the community is

:03:54. > :03:58.ultimately want to see happening. There has been a mixed reaction here

:03:59. > :04:02.to the recommendations. The leader of the TUV says it is just a

:04:03. > :04:06.toothless whitewash, but the First Minister and Deputy First Minister

:04:07. > :04:07.are impressed and said the panel's work will provide a basis for their

:04:08. > :04:10.action in the coming months. A court has been told that a woman

:04:11. > :04:13.from Carryduff who admits the manslaughter of her neighbour

:04:14. > :04:15.was in a disturbed state Samuel Carson, who was 91,

:04:16. > :04:20.died after a fire spread from Karen Hasson's garage

:04:21. > :04:25.and filled his house with smoke. His 59-year-old neighbour had

:04:26. > :04:29.earlier posted an angry message about her husband on social media

:04:30. > :04:35.saying she hoped he'd burn in hell. Two men were arrested and five

:04:36. > :04:42.people injured including three PSNI officers after a police chase ended

:04:43. > :04:45.in a collision in East Belfast. The police say the pursuit began

:04:46. > :04:52.after a car failed to stop for them. Bus and train fares may go up

:04:53. > :04:56.on an ongoing basis. The man who runs Translink launched

:04:57. > :04:59.a plan to grow passenger numbers and part of it could involve

:05:00. > :05:01.linking fares to inflation. Our Business Correspondent,

:05:02. > :05:18.Julian O'Neill, reports. Ticket fares have been frozen this

:05:19. > :05:23.year, but 12 months ago, these passengers felt price pain, a hike

:05:24. > :05:29.four times the rate of inflation. It would need ministerial approval, but

:05:30. > :05:33.in future, Translink wants to ease understanding, simply link prices to

:05:34. > :05:40.inflation, argues its boss, who today talked of reasonable increases

:05:41. > :05:45.on an ongoing basis. What I would be more focused on moving forward is, I

:05:46. > :05:49.think an increase is understood, fits in with supply and demand and

:05:50. > :05:55.fits in with the Consumer Price Index on an annual basis, and we if

:05:56. > :06:01.we came to an understanding as to how fares are moved each year. It is

:06:02. > :06:06.indicated that that big fares hike hurt. Value for money ratings among

:06:07. > :06:11.passengers dropped. The company admits it has its work cut out, but

:06:12. > :06:14.as it launched a strategy document, European official for public

:06:15. > :06:23.transport providers jumped to Translink's defence. The fares are

:06:24. > :06:27.the European average. They are less expensive than they would be in

:06:28. > :06:33.London. I think the value for money is good. Translink has set itself

:06:34. > :06:39.the goal of 85 million passenger journeys annually by 2021. To hit

:06:40. > :06:44.that target, Translink needs to add 5 million the current passenger

:06:45. > :06:50.journeys, and what growth has been in recent years has all been down to

:06:51. > :06:54.trains, not bosses. The bus and train operator wants Stormont to dig

:06:55. > :06:59.deeper, calling for its growth plan to be backed by sufficient public

:07:00. > :07:00.funding. But with cash tight in government, fares may have to come

:07:01. > :07:03.under greater focus. Football, and the Northern Ireland

:07:04. > :07:06.striker Kyle Lafferty awaits the results of a scan

:07:07. > :07:09.on his suspected injured groin, to see if he will be fit

:07:10. > :07:12.for his team's first game He sustained the injury

:07:13. > :07:15.during a training session today. But the Northern Ireland camp

:07:16. > :07:17.remain confident that Stephen Watson has the latest

:07:18. > :07:31.from their camp in France. Walking a little gingerly tonight,

:07:32. > :07:34.Kyle Lafferty arrived with his team-mates for a function held by

:07:35. > :07:38.the Mayor of the local town which is hosting Northern Ireland this week.

:07:39. > :07:43.The players were treated to a Michelin starred meal in the famous

:07:44. > :07:47.Beaujolais wine region of France. Earlier in training, this was the

:07:48. > :07:52.moment Lafferty was injured. The pain was clear for all to see.

:07:53. > :07:59.Immediately, the Northern Ireland manager was keen to play down the

:08:00. > :08:06.problem. No major concerns at all. He is fine. All good. It was best to

:08:07. > :08:12.take him out of the training session, it made sense to do that.

:08:13. > :08:16.Lafferty, who scored seven goals to help Northern Ireland to their first

:08:17. > :08:20.major finals in 30 years, would be a massive loss to the side. But his

:08:21. > :08:24.team-mates are confident he will be available. I think it was a slight

:08:25. > :08:31.sort of, he just opened his groin up a bit, it happens all the time. I

:08:32. > :08:34.think it is the most intelligent thing to do, to sit it out. Nobody

:08:35. > :08:38.will be wanting to get injured before the biggest limit of our

:08:39. > :08:43.lives. It has been massive for us, as were his goal in the qualifying

:08:44. > :08:48.campaign. He is a handful. It was a bit of a scare seeing him getting

:08:49. > :08:51.injured. So, an anxious wait for a Lafferty and all the Northern

:08:52. > :08:54.Ireland fans who have started to make their way to France, with just

:08:55. > :08:59.five days to go until the opening game against Poland.

:09:00. > :09:01.The Republic of Ireland squad, meanwhile, will arrive

:09:02. > :09:04.Thomas Kane will be with Martin O'Neill's side

:09:05. > :09:06.throughout the tournament, and as he reports, there was some

:09:07. > :09:18.The beautiful city of Versailles, just outside Paris, will be the

:09:19. > :09:22.Republic of Ireland's home from home for the next few weeks and they will

:09:23. > :09:26.arrive boosted by the news that Martin O'Neill and his backroom team

:09:27. > :09:31.have signed a contract to remain in charge for the World Cup qualifying

:09:32. > :09:36.campaign in 2018. Ahead of managing his first major tournament, O'Neill

:09:37. > :09:39.has spoken to us about his hopes for Euro 2016, the similarity between

:09:40. > :09:44.his current players and the Northern Ireland World Cup squad of 1982, and

:09:45. > :09:48.he gives an insight into his relationship with his assistant, Roy

:09:49. > :09:53.Keane. If we are not qualifying, people say it didn't work. It has

:09:54. > :09:59.worked out pretty well. We meet each other occasionally outside, but we

:10:00. > :10:04.don't socialise. From that viewpoint, when we go into the camp,

:10:05. > :10:08.we are there to work. We enjoy it at the time, don't get me wrong, these

:10:09. > :10:12.things are great. He is a motivational character himself. He

:10:13. > :10:16.has been splendid for the group of players here. Those they have a lot

:10:17. > :10:25.of respect for him as a player. -- because. Some of these players have

:10:26. > :10:29.grown up with him being their hero. If we had not qualified, it would

:10:30. > :10:32.have been the biggest disaster of all time. And you can watch more of

:10:33. > :10:35.that interview with Martin O'Neill on tomorrow's programme.

:10:36. > :10:37.And if you're going to France for the tournament supporting either

:10:38. > :10:40.Northern Ireland or the Republic, we'd love to hear from you -

:10:41. > :11:02.With the weather forecast, here's Cecilia Daly.

:11:03. > :11:08.Another warm night coming up. The earlier thunderstorms and heavy

:11:09. > :11:12.downpours have largely cleared. And much more dry for the rest of the

:11:13. > :11:19.night. Temperatures no lower than 12 or 13. Lots of mist and low cloud

:11:20. > :11:25.forming. But it will end up a decent day tomorrow, especially through the

:11:26. > :11:30.afternoon. To begin, fold in places, particularly parts of the coastline.

:11:31. > :11:33.Eventually, most of the mist and low cloud will burn away and the sun

:11:34. > :11:36.should breakthrough by the afternoon. Some lovely sunshine

:11:37. > :11:41.across the Republic, just the small chance of a shower. Still some heavy

:11:42. > :11:45.showers and possible thunderstorms over parts of Scotland and northern

:11:46. > :11:48.England. But no warnings in force and many parts of the UK and Ireland

:11:49. > :11:53.will expect some pretty decent weather tomorrow. Temperatures

:11:54. > :11:57.should end up in the low 20s tomorrow afternoon. The mist and low

:11:58. > :12:04.cloud may take a while to clear from parts of the course. Temperatures of

:12:05. > :12:09.around 16. On Thursday, a misty start, a couple of showers around.

:12:10. > :12:15.But a lot of places will have a dry day. Temperatures reaching around 20

:12:16. > :12:20.or 21. But things do not look quite so good on Friday. Rain will affect

:12:21. > :12:25.all parts of Northern Ireland for a while, temperatures are likely to

:12:26. > :12:29.get higher than around 17. But it will dry up again, at least for a

:12:30. > :12:31.while on Saturday. But more rain on Saturday night into Sunday morning.
