:00:11. > :00:15.It was a disappointing start to Northern Ireland's Euro

:00:16. > :00:17.campaign in France as they lost 1-0 to Poland.

:00:18. > :00:30.Poland had Northern Ireland under pressure for much of the match.

:00:31. > :00:37.Thank you. Northern Ireland have had to wait 30 years to reach a major

:00:38. > :00:41.finals and this is their very first European Championships. In the end,

:00:42. > :00:44.it was a frustrating night for the team, the players admitting they

:00:45. > :00:54.were perhaps overawed by the occasion. The site was greeted by

:00:55. > :01:01.thousands of fans who had made the trip to Nice. Michael O'Neill's men

:01:02. > :01:08.held out for the first half, but Bullen struck early. Arkadiusz Milik

:01:09. > :01:14.scored and it was a well-deserved goal. Northern Ireland had their

:01:15. > :01:19.chances, Connor McLaughlin lined himself in a perfect position but

:01:20. > :01:23.couldn't capitalise on it. Towards the end, a training ground moves

:01:24. > :01:28.Steven Davis in on goal, but the captain couldn't get his stride

:01:29. > :01:33.right with the shot. So, Northern Ireland with a lot of work to do. I

:01:34. > :01:37.have just spoken to Michael O'Neill and Hughes says he knows his team

:01:38. > :01:40.will probably have two beat Ukraine in the next game if they are to

:01:41. > :01:41.progress to the quarterfinals that he was still very proud of their

:01:42. > :01:42.valiant effort tonight. This was the reaction Steven Davis

:01:43. > :01:58.gave to Stephen just I think we need to be brave and

:01:59. > :02:03.better on the ball. We have to do better than that to get through the

:02:04. > :02:06.group, but hopefully it is a learning curve and we will learn

:02:07. > :02:13.from it. How does this defeat change your approach in the next game

:02:14. > :02:15.against Ukraine? We always knew the first game would be difficult and we

:02:16. > :02:17.dug deep but it wasn't good enough. Helen, what's the atmosphere

:02:18. > :02:30.like there this evening? Crowds are continuing to disperse,

:02:31. > :02:34.30 years to qualify for a major tournament and with a loss here,

:02:35. > :02:41.there is no doubt about the band the's disappointed. Many are having

:02:42. > :02:48.to be philosophical about the results -- fans. There are thousands

:02:49. > :02:52.of people here and others spread across the city, the buyers, beaches

:02:53. > :02:59.and campsites. Most seem determined to enjoy the experience, despite the

:03:00. > :03:02.goal line. It very much sums up the good natured and relaxed atmosphere

:03:03. > :03:08.throughout the day, even when that final whistle blew. Last night, some

:03:09. > :03:09.Northern Ireland fans were injured and one was arrested during minor

:03:10. > :03:11.trouble. Police say a group of

:03:12. > :03:23.French football hooligans The trouble broke out right in the

:03:24. > :03:31.centre of Nice. French police quickly stopped the violence with

:03:32. > :03:35.the help of the PSNI. They had been working, singing and partying

:03:36. > :03:40.together all afternoon. What provoked this violence was a group

:03:41. > :03:44.of the French hooligans becoming involved. To us, it looked like they

:03:45. > :03:51.had come down to instigate some trouble. A Polish fans and six

:03:52. > :03:58.Northern Ireland 's fans went to hospital together. This was one of

:03:59. > :04:01.them. I was trying to get out of the way of the bottles that were flying

:04:02. > :04:05.and after a couple of minutes, I realised they had sliced me. I was

:04:06. > :04:10.dripping with blood, so I had to go to hospital. I got four stitches.

:04:11. > :04:17.Although they didn't start the trouble, some Northern Ireland fans

:04:18. > :04:18.to get involved. The police said the vast majority of fans last night

:04:19. > :04:31.were noisy but well-behaved. Northern Ireland fans are definitely

:04:32. > :04:36.disappointed, but all eyes will be on the next match against Ukraine.

:04:37. > :04:38.Many fans are planning to make that trip north because it will be a very

:04:39. > :04:39.important game. We have a specially extended late

:04:40. > :04:42.news tonight at 10:25. We'll also hear from the fanzone

:04:43. > :04:46.in Belfast and we'll have the latest on the Republic's preparations

:04:47. > :04:53.for their first match tomorrow. Four family fun days have taken

:04:54. > :04:56.place in parks across Belfast as part of celebrations

:04:57. > :04:58.for the Queen's Official Families braved the weather

:04:59. > :05:04.at Orangefield Park in the east of the city where a number

:05:05. > :05:06.of activities were on offer including archery, face painting

:05:07. > :05:12.and even a petting zoo. Hundreds of Orangemen in County Down

:05:13. > :05:15.have been commemorating the centenary of the Battle

:05:16. > :05:16.of the Somme. A parade from the Somme Museum

:05:17. > :05:20.near Bangor followed the route taken by the 36th Ulster Division

:05:21. > :05:24.when leaving the Clandeboye Estate Some participants wore uniforms

:05:25. > :05:29.of First World War soldiers There were also new banners

:05:30. > :05:34.on display to honour GAA now and in the Ulster football

:05:35. > :05:57.championship Donegal beat We have seen some pretty big

:05:58. > :06:01.gamblers in places during the course of the weekend and as we going to be

:06:02. > :06:06.start of the new wheat, still a lot of cloud in the forecasts and still

:06:07. > :06:09.showers. Light winds to begin with and some of the showers will be

:06:10. > :06:13.slow-moving, not quite as heavy as the downpours we have had through

:06:14. > :06:17.the weekend. The presets to pick up midweek and it should feel pressure

:06:18. > :06:21.and a bit drier. Before this evening, we should still have some

:06:22. > :06:26.showers around, particularly towards the east. A risk of plunder. Drier

:06:27. > :06:30.and brighter into the data was the west. The west looks in the drive to

:06:31. > :06:35.read the course of the night, with the misty patches. Always the threat

:06:36. > :06:39.of showers towards the east. Temperatures quite mild and muddy.

:06:40. > :06:44.Tomorrow, a great deal of cloud, showery rain starting to edge its

:06:45. > :06:47.way in. During the morning, some dry spell is very time before the cloud

:06:48. > :06:52.starts to gather from the west bringing the rain with it. Behind

:06:53. > :06:56.that band of rain, it turns brighter with showers across the Republic of

:06:57. > :07:01.Ireland. For much of the country tomorrow, a lot of cloud. Downpours

:07:02. > :07:05.developing, slow-moving and a risk of thunder. Surface water and spray

:07:06. > :07:12.on the roads, a bit misty along the east coast of England. The best spot

:07:13. > :07:14.to be is across the north-east of Scotland, mainly dry with sunshine.

:07:15. > :07:17.For Northern Ireland, a lot of cloud, still some rain around but

:07:18. > :07:25.nothing like this weekend. Temperatures up to 18 degrees. Still

:07:26. > :07:27.some showers on cheese day, few are towards the end of the week but the

:07:28. > :07:28.breeze is picking up. We have an extended late

:07:29. > :07:31.news tonight, that's Until then you can keep up to date

:07:32. > :07:33.with local news on BBC Radio Ulster
