:00:11. > :00:18.Good evening. The Northern Ireland team have lost their final group

:00:19. > :00:21.game in the Euros. They were beaten 1-0 by world champions Germany but

:00:22. > :00:25.the small margin of defeat means they could still progress to the

:00:26. > :00:31.knockout phase of the tournament as one of the four best third placed

:00:32. > :00:38.sides. Let's go to the fan zone in the centre of Paris and Mark

:00:39. > :00:43.Simpson. It could be the best ever 1-0 defeat

:00:44. > :00:49.Northern Ireland could have had ever because they could still qualify for

:00:50. > :00:54.the final stages of the tournament, the last 16. They were beaten but

:00:55. > :01:00.only narrowly, the goalkeeper McGovern, what a heroic performance

:01:01. > :01:06.by the Fermanagh man, he has kept them in the tournament, down but not

:01:07. > :01:11.out. There is a nervous 24-hour wait for the Northern Ireland team and

:01:12. > :01:15.the fans to see if other results go their way. Thousands of fans were

:01:16. > :01:21.here in the fan zone in the centre of Paris. After the final whistle

:01:22. > :01:29.this is what they had to say. I have to go back but if I could get

:01:30. > :01:32.a day trip I will be back. Disappointment but at the end of the

:01:33. > :01:40.day we are playing the world champions. We definitely kept the

:01:41. > :01:50.score down as it could have been three or four. We still go through,

:01:51. > :01:53.I thought the keeper was excellent Tom and defensively very good. There

:01:54. > :02:00.wasn't much going forward, good result. I think they have done

:02:01. > :02:05.marvellous. I expected us to lose by more than that. We are playing the

:02:06. > :02:14.world champions, you are not playing in Antrim. It is going to be a great

:02:15. > :02:17.night here in Paris. Northern Ireland are still alive in the

:02:18. > :02:24.tournament but I dare say those fans, like the viewers at home, will

:02:25. > :02:29.be studying the Lee -- those tables to CS Northern Ireland will make the

:02:30. > :02:32.last 16. Here are three results Northern Ireland would like to go

:02:33. > :02:37.their way. If the Czech Republic lose tonight against Turkey, great

:02:38. > :02:42.news. If Sweden lose tomorrow against Belgium, great news. If the

:02:43. > :02:47.Republic of Island lose two morrow night against Italy, that would be

:02:48. > :02:51.very good news but Northern Ireland as well! You couldn't make it up but

:02:52. > :02:57.the good news for everybody involved is that by 10pm tomorrow night the

:02:58. > :03:04.waiting will be over and we will know who is staying and going.

:03:05. > :03:13.It is all in the sums. Supporters also gathered at fan zones here at

:03:14. > :03:19.home. Just a few left in Belfast but that wasn't the case a while ago.

:03:20. > :03:24.For the fans who couldn't make it to France this was the next best thing.

:03:25. > :03:28.Around 15,000 Northern Ireland supporters packed into the fan zone

:03:29. > :03:33.at Titanic Belfast this evening. Most of them are on their way home

:03:34. > :03:38.by now that during the match the atmosphere was electric, tense and

:03:39. > :03:43.anxious at times and of course disappointment with the German goal

:03:44. > :03:49.in the first half but the cheers and the songs barely faltered and during

:03:50. > :03:56.the 64th minute virtually every fan here took part in a very touching

:03:57. > :04:01.tribute to the Northern Ireland fan Archie who passed away in the

:04:02. > :04:06.stadium during the game against Ukraine. Disappointment at the score

:04:07. > :04:10.line of course but fans told us earlier that they are still daring

:04:11. > :04:16.to dream. We have three points, very

:04:17. > :04:26.confident. Albania are level on goal difference and we can't say about

:04:27. > :04:33.the Republic or Belgium, easy. We will qualify, no problem. Great

:04:34. > :04:37.goalkeeping from our home man, Michael McGovern. A 1-0 defeat

:04:38. > :04:49.doesn't matter. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:04:50. > :04:53.Disappointment at the scoreline but still the sliver of hope that

:04:54. > :04:59.Northern Ireland can qualify for the last 16 and fans hoping they will be

:05:00. > :05:03.back here at the fan zone at Titanic Belfast soon enough.

:05:04. > :05:10.Let's go back to Paris and Stephen Watson is still pitch side at the

:05:11. > :05:14.Parc des Princes Stadium. This has been an amazing performance

:05:15. > :05:19.by Northern Ireland on and off the pitch. Look behind me, the

:05:20. > :05:25.supporters simply don't want to go home, they have been singing from

:05:26. > :05:28.start to finish of this game. I have just spoken to manager Michael

:05:29. > :05:33.O'Neill who told me he was very proud of this team's performance to

:05:34. > :05:40.keep the score to 1-0. Let's look at some of the action because Northern

:05:41. > :05:46.Ireland had to defend very well. The goalkeeper made a number of great

:05:47. > :05:49.saves from Mesut Ozil and Muller. Germany opened up the modern Ireland

:05:50. > :05:55.defence Time and again in the opening stages. The first goal came

:05:56. > :06:02.after almost half an hour of pressure from the world champions.

:06:03. > :06:09.It was almost 2-0 a few minutes later when Thomas Muller's shot

:06:10. > :06:14.crashed off the bar. In the second-half McGovern was again

:06:15. > :06:19.forced to make a wonderful save. He made seven outstanding saves in all

:06:20. > :06:22.to keep Germany at bay. It was a fantastic individual performance by

:06:23. > :06:29.the county Fermanagh man, what he did maybe enough to keep Northern

:06:30. > :06:33.Ireland in tournament, Michael O'Neill's men going down by just 1-0

:06:34. > :06:36.against the world champions. A short time ago I spoke to Michael

:06:37. > :06:42.McGovern. Time will tell if it's good enough

:06:43. > :06:46.to get us through the group, the next 24 hours will be immensely

:06:47. > :06:49.important but if it is not it will be very disappointment. It was

:06:50. > :06:54.mentally hard, we were under a lot of pressure, and even when they

:06:55. > :06:58.scored, it is crucial with goal difference and things like that so

:06:59. > :07:02.we wanted to keep it at one. We couldn't get a draw but it was

:07:03. > :07:07.important to keep the score down. They are the world champions and we

:07:08. > :07:10.worked so hard and hopefully it is enough to get through.

:07:11. > :07:14.Hard to believe that Michael McGovern is out of contract with his

:07:15. > :07:18.club in a couple of weeks. After this performance on the

:07:19. > :07:24.international stage he won't have to try too hard to get a new contract.

:07:25. > :07:29.From pitch side, with every Northern Ireland fan crossing their fingers

:07:30. > :07:30.that the results will go their way and they can get through to the last

:07:31. > :07:33.16. The Deputy First Minister,

:07:34. > :07:34.Martin McGuinness, It's the first time he's been to see

:07:35. > :07:39.the Northern Ireland team play. Beforehand, he said he was happy

:07:40. > :07:41.to give recognition He was asked what advice he'd give

:07:42. > :07:45.a player who couldn't decide whether to play for Northern Ireland

:07:46. > :07:53.or the Republic. Well, I would say make up your mind

:07:54. > :08:00.and whatever you do we will support you. I have always had that attitude

:08:01. > :08:03.towards young people who maybe they couldn't get a place on the

:08:04. > :08:11.Republic's team or it wasn't convenient for them to train in

:08:12. > :08:16.Dublin. My attitude is not to politicise it, my attitude is

:08:17. > :08:20.whatever decision young men make or young women for that matter in terms

:08:21. > :08:26.of who they play for, why should we try to make their lives a misery by

:08:27. > :08:29.trying to politicise it and make their lives difficult for them?

:08:30. > :08:32.One and a half kilogrammes of what's believed to be Semtex explosive have

:08:33. > :08:35.been found at a block of flats in north Belfast.

:08:36. > :08:37.The police said it was discovered in New Lodge yesterday

:08:38. > :08:39.after a report from a member of the public.

:08:40. > :08:45.Army bomb-disposal experts were called to the scene yesterday.

:08:46. > :08:52.Almost three and a half pounds of the highly

:08:53. > :09:03.They say it is enough to make three undercard booby-trapped bombs.

:09:04. > :09:05.Police received a tip-off from a member of

:09:06. > :09:07.the public and thanked residents for their cooperation.

:09:08. > :09:09.Two years ago a similar quantity was found in a

:09:10. > :09:15.Speaking about this latest seizure, the Deputy First Minister said

:09:16. > :09:17.he was hugely relieved and delighted that the explosives

:09:18. > :09:24.The Police Federation of Northern Ireland says it believes

:09:25. > :09:26.the explosives would have been used to target members of

:09:27. > :09:37.The Home Secretary says it's inconceivable there won't be any

:09:38. > :09:39.changes on arrangements at the border if the UK pulls out

:09:40. > :09:44.Theresa May is visiting Northern Ireland today

:09:45. > :09:50.to campaign for a Remain vote in Thursday's EU referendum.

:09:51. > :09:58.If we think about it, if we were out of the European Union with tariffs

:09:59. > :10:01.on exporting goods into the EU, there would have to be something to

:10:02. > :10:04.recognise that between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

:10:05. > :10:08.If you pulled out of the EU and came out on free movement, how could you

:10:09. > :10:10.have a situation where there was an open border

:10:11. > :10:11.with a country that was

:10:12. > :10:14.in the EU and had access to free movement?

:10:15. > :10:17.The DUP says the cost of taking out a big Vote Leave advertisement

:10:18. > :10:21.in the Metro newspaper in London is a "price worth paying".

:10:22. > :10:25.The DUP's referendum message is wrapped around today's edition

:10:26. > :10:28.of the tabloid paper, which is distributed free at Tube

:10:29. > :10:34.stations and other places around the city and elsewhere.

:10:35. > :10:36.We are a national party and the fourth largest party

:10:37. > :10:39.in the House of Commons and this is a national campaign.

:10:40. > :10:51.Northern Ireland hasn't been the periphery of this campaign.

:10:52. > :10:54.We have been, as far as the DUP is concerned,

:10:55. > :11:00.a central player in the Leave campaign and therefore

:11:01. > :11:06.it is conceivable to take that advert in that

:11:07. > :11:09.particular publication as it is to take it in the ones

:11:10. > :11:11.that we have done here in Northern Ireland.

:11:12. > :11:13.Judges at the Appeal Court in Belfast have queried

:11:14. > :11:14.whether the recently published abortion guidelines

:11:15. > :11:17.by the Department of Health clarify the law sufficiently.

:11:18. > :11:19.It's the second day of an appeal against a High Court decision

:11:20. > :11:21.which found that Northern Ireland's abortion law is incompatible

:11:22. > :11:35.The odd shower remains but overnight it will be mainly dry, temperatures

:11:36. > :11:40.down to ten or 11 degrees. Tomorrow will be much like today, plenty of

:11:41. > :11:45.dry weather, some sunny gaps but one or two scattered showers. For the

:11:46. > :11:49.beginning of the day we expect it to be largely dry with some sunny gaps

:11:50. > :11:54.and westerly winds. If you are travelling there will be parts of

:11:55. > :12:01.wet weather in the south-west of the UK, there could be some thundery

:12:02. > :12:07.showers. Elsewhere the odd scattered shower and some sunshine.

:12:08. > :12:10.Temperatures reaching 20 or even 21 degrees but look out for the odd

:12:11. > :12:18.scattered shower, particularly towards the West. The us, not a bad

:12:19. > :12:24.end today -- to the day if you are heading towards the fan zone in

:12:25. > :12:29.Belfast. It will stay settled over the weekend.
