:00:00. > :00:09.I'll be back with more updates throughout the night.

:00:10. > :00:13.Polling stations in the historic referendum on whether the UK should

:00:14. > :00:22.stay in or leave the European Union have closed.

:00:23. > :00:26.The outcome of the Northern Ireland Paul will be announced at the

:00:27. > :00:29.Titanic centre in Belfast. Mark Devenport joins me

:00:30. > :00:30.live from now. Mark, is there any indication

:00:31. > :00:38.of what the turn out has been The best guess at this stage is that

:00:39. > :00:43.turnout will be higher than the 55% we saw in last month's Assembly

:00:44. > :00:47.poll. We are getting different indications from around Northern

:00:48. > :00:51.Ireland. Some places in Belfast and Londonderry have had a turnout of

:00:52. > :00:56.more than 70%, whereas other places have been lower, for instance in Mid

:00:57. > :01:00.Ulster where there was a turnout of more like 48%. It is all go here in

:01:01. > :01:04.the Titanic centre and the other counting centres around Northern

:01:05. > :01:08.Ireland. A lot of ballot boxes brought in in the last two moments,

:01:09. > :01:12.and the counting staff are verifying the ballot papers, that the right

:01:13. > :01:16.number are inside the boxes, and then they will get on with the

:01:17. > :01:22.counting soon after that. Looks busy indeed. When we know which way it

:01:23. > :01:25.has gone? We will have declarations from each of the 18 parliamentary

:01:26. > :01:28.constituencies, which should come throughout the night. We are

:01:29. > :01:34.thinking the earliest might be some time like 12:30am, and the last

:01:35. > :01:39.should be possibly around 4am this morning. We should have a good idea

:01:40. > :01:44.of how Northern Ireland has voted in this referendum by probably around

:01:45. > :01:47.4:15am, when we are expecting the declaration here in the Titanic

:01:48. > :01:56.centre. The overall UK result will probably be later than that,

:01:57. > :01:58.probably about 7am or thereabouts. Mark, thank you.

:01:59. > :02:00.The family of a woman who died from a brain injury

:02:01. > :02:03.a day after telling police her head had been banged off a wall

:02:04. > :02:06.is considering legal action against the PSNI.

:02:07. > :02:09.Two police officers have been disciplined for not seeking medical

:02:10. > :02:13.attention for the 36-year-old when she was taken into custody.

:02:14. > :02:19.Our home affairs correspondent Vincent Kearney reports.

:02:20. > :02:22.Mairead McCallion told police several times over a number of years

:02:23. > :02:26.that she had been a victim of domestic violence.

:02:27. > :02:34.When officers arrived to deal with a disturbance at a house in Omagh,

:02:35. > :02:37.she said her partner had grabbed her by the hair and banged

:02:38. > :02:42.Her partner was arrested and she was taken to Omagh

:02:43. > :02:45.But the officers she had spoken to did

:02:46. > :02:47.not tell the doctor about the head injury.

:02:48. > :02:50.Hours later, she was sick in the back of a police

:02:51. > :02:51.car while being driven to a friend's house.

:02:52. > :02:54.She was rushed to hospital but died the following day.

:02:55. > :02:56.Her sister says the family is deeply distressed about

:02:57. > :03:01.She was a very vulnerable young women, and I

:03:02. > :03:04.think at the most vulnerable point in her life, she was not taken

:03:05. > :03:09.When she reported that she had a head injury,

:03:10. > :03:14.she should have got urgent medical attention.

:03:15. > :03:17.As a family we are left wondering and will always wonder now,

:03:18. > :03:28.A report from the Police Ombudsman says two officers failed to

:03:29. > :03:31.follow PSNI procedures for dealing with someone with a head injury.

:03:32. > :03:33.The officers said they had assumed that

:03:34. > :03:38.she would tell the police doctor about her injury, but the report

:03:39. > :03:41.says that they had a duty to make the doctor aware of what

:03:42. > :03:47.no blame should be apportioned here to Mairead McCallion.

:03:48. > :03:49.She was in very difficult circumstances, she had been

:03:50. > :03:52.assaulted, and obviously that was impacting on her, so it was the

:03:53. > :03:59.The man she said assaulted her was charged with

:04:00. > :04:01.murder, but the charges were later dropped.

:04:02. > :04:08.Her family are now considering legal action against the PSNI.

:04:09. > :04:13.The PSNI has accepted a recommendation from the ombudsman to

:04:14. > :04:17.introduce a new policy for dealing with people who report a head

:04:18. > :04:20.injury. In future, officers will be instructed to take the person

:04:21. > :04:25.directly to hospital and are not stable base station. -- not to a

:04:26. > :04:30.police station. A Euro fanzone for supporters will

:04:31. > :04:33.be set up at Boucher Playing Fields in South Belfast for both

:04:34. > :04:35.the Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland's

:04:36. > :04:37.matches this weekend. It followed a clash

:04:38. > :04:39.with the Belsonic Festival which ruled out the original venue

:04:40. > :04:41.at the Titanic slipway. This afternoon the Boucher site

:04:42. > :04:44.was named as the alternative. Fans will now be able to congregate

:04:45. > :04:46.there for Northern Ireland's match against Wales on Saturday

:04:47. > :04:56.and for the Republic's game Having a fanzone, it will be an

:04:57. > :05:00.thinkable not to have won here in Belfast, and I am delighted his

:05:01. > :05:04.provided you're now. Fans enjoy coming together, even though you're

:05:05. > :05:09.only cheering on a screen, you are doing it together and showing her

:05:10. > :05:10.enthusiasm. -- showing your enthusiasm.

:05:11. > :05:13.Here's Barra Best with a look at what the weather has

:05:14. > :05:24.Some scattered showers tonight, one or two on the heavy night, but not

:05:25. > :05:27.especially chilly. The pressure will remain in control tomorrow, meaning

:05:28. > :05:31.more scattered showers. To begin with not a bad start to the day.

:05:32. > :05:36.Plenty of dry weather and sunshine as well, but by the morning, those

:05:37. > :05:40.showers will begin to come in from the Atlantic, affecting almost any

:05:41. > :05:50.work across Ireland. The date some heavy downpours as well. A similar

:05:51. > :05:55.picture further north. The exception may be of the south-east of England,

:05:56. > :05:58.are largely dry and warm afternoon. For us the wind begins to comment on

:05:59. > :06:03.the north-west. It will feel cooler and pressure especially towards the

:06:04. > :06:08.north coast. 14 or 15 Celsius. And a bit warmer. Keep an eye out for some

:06:09. > :06:11.heavy showers. There could be surface flooding on the roads with

:06:12. > :06:14.undermining perhaps breaking out through the afternoon. It is a bit

:06:15. > :06:17.of an improving picture for Saturday. Not as many showers

:06:18. > :06:26.around, but some wet weather. It will be rather cloudy. The link cool

:06:27. > :06:27.with those north-westerly winds. More in the way of sunny spells

:06:28. > :06:33.expected from Andy. -- for Monday. Our next BBC Newsline

:06:37. > :06:39.with News Online. But now let's join Mark Carruthers
