:00:14. > :00:19.A deal to end the dispute over an Orange order parade in Belfast has

:00:20. > :00:28.collapsed. The proposed agreement would have led to the end of a three

:00:29. > :00:31.old protest. This short section of road in West Bell -- north Belfast

:00:32. > :00:36.is one of the most contentious Orange order parade routes. Three

:00:37. > :00:41.years ago by Lintz erupted when a parade was prevented from walking

:00:42. > :00:45.along it. Since then the loyalist protesters have set up a camp just

:00:46. > :00:54.across the road from the nationalist Ardoyne area. The Crumlin Ardoyne

:00:55. > :01:04.residents Association the Orange order should abruptly protest to an

:01:05. > :01:08.end. At that point the protest camp would have been dismantled.

:01:09. > :01:12.Agreement was also reached on an approach to future Orange parade in

:01:13. > :01:17.the area. So confident with those involved in the talks that this room

:01:18. > :01:22.was booked for a press conference to announce a deal yesterday afternoon,

:01:23. > :01:26.but it was cancelled and nobody turned up. Instead, hours later,

:01:27. > :01:30.they held a public meeting to outline to national residents --

:01:31. > :01:35.nationalist residents what was on offer. The plan to end the dispute

:01:36. > :01:39.faced opposition from both sides. Another nationalist residents group

:01:40. > :01:45.not involved in the talks said it would oppose any deal. The members

:01:46. > :01:51.of one of three Orange order is involved in the stand-off said they

:01:52. > :01:55.would not back it. Senior Orange leaders insist they could have made

:01:56. > :01:58.it work despite the opposition but there were concerns on the

:01:59. > :02:01.nationalist side that the deal could not stick. This morning it was

:02:02. > :02:04.announced that the agreement had collapsed. A statement from talks

:02:05. > :02:21.facilitators said... A spokesman said it hopes at deal

:02:22. > :02:26.can still be reached. I don't want to get into recriminations. I think

:02:27. > :02:31.it may stifle any progress we may make in the future. I think what is

:02:32. > :02:35.incumbent on all of us now is to assess where we're at it and move

:02:36. > :02:41.forward. I don't make any of these issues are insurmountable. The

:02:42. > :02:45.Orange order has thanked all of those involved in the initiative.

:02:46. > :02:56.The statement says it very much regretted it hadn't succeeded. Those

:02:57. > :03:00.who back to this deal has given the failure to reach agreement as a soft

:03:01. > :03:04.landing. There are no recriminations and no one is for pointing a finger

:03:05. > :03:07.of blame. There is a clear desire to leave the door open, in the hope

:03:08. > :03:12.that a deal can be stuck at some stage.

:03:13. > :03:15.A court has been told that a man was stabbed about 200 times in,

:03:16. > :03:17.what was called a frenzied and repeated attack

:03:18. > :03:21.The body of Kyle Neil, who was 23 and from Belfast,

:03:22. > :03:25.was found in the boot of a car outside a house in the south

:03:26. > :03:32.It had been moved there by his killer and his killer's girlfriend.

:03:33. > :03:35.28-year-old Wesley Harry Vance has pleaded guilty to the murder

:03:36. > :03:52.Kyle Neil was just a few days away from turning 24.

:03:53. > :03:57.He had gone to a party at the flat of a friend, Wesley Vance.

:03:58. > :04:00.The court heard after most people went home, Stephanie

:04:01. > :04:02.Todd went to bed and the two sat up drinking.

:04:03. > :04:04.An argument led to a fight, and an attack described as

:04:05. > :04:07.Kyle Neil was stabbed around 200 times,

:04:08. > :04:15.64 times in the chest, 52 times in the torso, back and neck.

:04:16. > :04:16.The court heard Wesley Vance admitted

:04:17. > :04:18.that once the row became violent, he lost control.

:04:19. > :04:29.After the killing, Vance moved the body.

:04:30. > :04:36.He drove to this carpark and brought a mobile phone,

:04:37. > :04:39.believing it was his victim's, and threw it away

:04:40. > :04:41.he came back and woke his sleeping girlfriend, Stephanie Todd,

:04:42. > :04:47.Kyle Neil's body had been wrapped in a blanket brought

:04:48. > :04:49.downstairs and placed in the boot of Wesley Vance's Ford Fiesta.

:04:50. > :04:52.Along with him, Stephanie Todd drove through the early April morning to

:04:53. > :04:56.her mother's address in the Lisburn Road area of Belfast.

:04:57. > :05:00.It was her mother who called the emergency services.

:05:01. > :05:03.Officers found the car and the body of Kyle Neil in the boot.

:05:04. > :05:08.He later pleaded guilty to murder, she

:05:09. > :05:12.has since pleaded guilty to obstructing the police.

:05:13. > :05:16.A barrister for Wesley Vance told the police his

:05:17. > :05:22.client believed he had acted in self defence.

:05:23. > :05:25.After today's hearing, Vance and Stephanie Todd will be

:05:26. > :05:37.Graffiti including the symbol of a swastika has been daubed on the door

:05:38. > :05:42.of a house in Armagh. Two cars were also sprayed in the attack in the

:05:43. > :05:47.orange field area. Details have just emerged of the attack which happened

:05:48. > :05:54.sometime between 6pm on Saturday night and 12pm on Sunday. Police are

:05:55. > :05:57.treating it as a hate crime. Local MEPs have given starkly

:05:58. > :06:01.different verdict on the results of last week's referendum. They were

:06:02. > :06:04.speaking at a special session of the European Parliament.

:06:05. > :06:11.Many of the key players in the Brexit drama were in Brussels today.

:06:12. > :06:15.The Prime Minister at the European Commission president and Nigel

:06:16. > :06:19.Farage, the man who led the crusade against the EU, he was heckled by

:06:20. > :06:27.some I rate GPs but got support from the DUP. I do accept that emotions

:06:28. > :06:32.are running high this morning but at times it has reinforced all the

:06:33. > :06:38.stereotypes that the British people fear about Europe, and which they

:06:39. > :06:42.voted against on the 23rd of June. Threats, bullying and hectoring will

:06:43. > :06:48.not work with the British people. What we need to do now is access to

:06:49. > :06:52.the result of the referendum and build a relationship that is

:06:53. > :06:58.mutually beneficial to all our people. An SNP MEP earned a standing

:06:59. > :07:03.ovation when he declared that the people of Scotland had not let your

:07:04. > :07:08.down. There was a similarly warm reception to Sinn Fein's assertion

:07:09. > :07:13.that they did not feel bound by the UK decision. We stand by the vote of

:07:14. > :07:28.the people of the north of Ireland, just like Scotland, which voted to

:07:29. > :07:32.remain. We accept and we respect... We access, we respect, and we will

:07:33. > :07:38.defend the wishes of the people of the north of Ireland. However, if

:07:39. > :07:46.English folks drag us out of the EU, that would be like Britannia waives

:07:47. > :07:50.the rules. In Brussels the stark differences between the two main

:07:51. > :07:53.parties in the power-sharing executive were clear for all to see.

:07:54. > :07:57.A sign of the task facing store modern ministers when they meet

:07:58. > :08:06.tomorrow to try and found some common ground in the wake of the

:08:07. > :08:09.referendum. Parents of students in Belfast have

:08:10. > :08:12.held a protest on the last day of the term. There have been ongoing

:08:13. > :08:17.industrial problems at the school and some parents say they are also

:08:18. > :08:21.concerned about how a safeguarding matter was handled. It centres on an

:08:22. > :08:25.allegation of inappropriate conduct by April -- priest when discussing

:08:26. > :08:27.matters of the sexual nature with a pupil. In a statement the diocese

:08:28. > :08:47.said... It says the diocese was advised that

:08:48. > :08:48.they had been investigated. A statement says that no further

:08:49. > :08:58.action was recommended. The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh have

:08:59. > :09:09.left Northern Ireland after a day of engagements on the coast.

:09:10. > :09:12.Some visitors could not believe what they were witnessing today.

:09:13. > :09:15.We didn't think we'd be able to come down here, and not be

:09:16. > :09:18.able to see the Giant's Causeway and not only did

:09:19. > :09:22.My kids are going to love this back in Australia.

:09:23. > :09:25.This is part of the tour and we had no idea she

:09:26. > :09:28.was going to be here until this morning.

:09:29. > :09:35.Next stop was Bushmills, where the Queen unveiled

:09:36. > :09:38.a bronze of World War I hero Robert Quigg.

:09:39. > :09:40.Her grandfather, George V, had presented him with a

:09:41. > :09:47.Victoria Cross for bravery during the Battle of the Somme.

:09:48. > :09:52.The members of his family it was a fitting tribute in the very week

:09:53. > :09:53.that battle began a century ago. It was almost like things

:09:54. > :09:56.coming full circle to have It was wonderful that the two

:09:57. > :09:59.of them came back here, to give the Royal seal of approval

:10:00. > :10:12.on the statue. The last engagement of the day began

:10:13. > :10:16.at Coleraine 's train station where people had been waiting for hours

:10:17. > :10:25.for a glimpse of the 90-year-old monarch.

:10:26. > :10:29.Wonderful, great for the families and the town and great for

:10:30. > :10:32.It was great for these guys to come and see her.

:10:33. > :10:37.The royal couple boarded a steam train for a trip that was a nod to

:10:38. > :10:42.the Queen's long reign. She last travelled on the slain in 1953, her

:10:43. > :10:48.Coronation year. It was the beginning of a lifelong journey on

:10:49. > :10:50.the throne. Sharing this journey with the Queen was local

:10:51. > :10:55.schoolchildren who said it was a day they would remember.

:10:56. > :10:59.I think it's quite surreal, I suppose not many people

:11:00. > :11:15.At Bellerin Queen opens new platforms and this is where a

:11:16. > :11:19.journey came an end, leaving behind memorable moments.

:11:20. > :11:23.And we'll have a special programme to mark The Queen's 90th birthday,

:11:24. > :11:26.where William Crawley looks back on her many visits to

:11:27. > :11:29.Northern Ireland over the last six decades.

:11:30. > :11:31.That's at 5.15pm this Sunday on BBC One.

:11:32. > :11:35.And we will also be broadcasting live from Thiepval in France to mark

:11:36. > :11:38.the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme with a special

:11:39. > :11:42.commemorative service at the Ulster Tower.

:11:43. > :12:01.Now for the weather forecast. The rain will continue in the next

:12:02. > :12:05.few days but at the main it is a largely dry one. It will be cooler

:12:06. > :12:08.when the sky clears and allows temperatures to dip into single

:12:09. > :12:12.figures. The cloud will return tomorrow morning eventually and

:12:13. > :12:17.bring outbreaks of rain. Through the day it will slowly improve. To begin

:12:18. > :12:21.with there may be sunshine at first in the north and east but the cloud

:12:22. > :12:25.thickens up and brings outbreaks of rain and by mid morning that rain

:12:26. > :12:30.could be heavy, especially in the north and parts of the West. It is a

:12:31. > :12:33.fairly wet start across Ireland and Wales and the south-west of England.

:12:34. > :12:37.Brighter elsewhere but the rain will push its way eastwards and affect

:12:38. > :12:44.much of England and in southern Scotland. A more improving picture

:12:45. > :12:47.across the North of Ireland in the afternoon with sunnier gaps coming

:12:48. > :12:53.through but it will take a while before it brightens up in Northern

:12:54. > :12:57.Ireland and we are likely to see scattered showers. Here the sunnier

:12:58. > :13:04.gaps will come in across the West later on. Keep the umbrella Han --

:13:05. > :13:09.handy as we get into Thursday. We expect more rain to come in from the

:13:10. > :13:14.West as we go through the day. Westerly winds. It could feel cooler

:13:15. > :13:17.when you factor in the wind and rain. On Friday and the weekend we

:13:18. > :13:20.always have some scattered showers in the forecast.

:13:21. > :13:23.Our next BBC Newsline is at 6.25am in the morning,

:13:24. > :13:28.You can also keep updated with News Online.
