:00:00. > 3:59:59And the news that Theresa May, currently Home Secretary, will be

:00:00. > :00:00.here in Scores of 11th night

:00:07. > :00:09.bonfires are being lit across Northern Ireland

:00:10. > :00:13.as environmental concerns have been Hundreds have appeared

:00:14. > :00:18.at several locations. The Northern Ireland Environment

:00:19. > :00:22.Agency says they've issued five ?300 fines over dumping at bonfires

:00:23. > :00:26.within the past two months. The police say they're also

:00:27. > :00:29.investigating complaints about election posters of Sinn Fein

:00:30. > :00:34.candidates being placed on one Tara Mills visited several

:00:35. > :00:40.bonfires earlier today. The bonfire here is usually

:00:41. > :00:43.one of the biggest. It's hard to estimate how many tyres

:00:44. > :00:49.are on this bonfire. One resident said he reckons it

:00:50. > :00:52.could be as many as 2,000. Those who built it wouldn't appear

:00:53. > :00:56.on camera but said ministerial cars at Stormont cause more pollution

:00:57. > :01:00.to the atmosphere. But some people with children

:01:01. > :01:03.living on the estate say One mum with a six-year-old son

:01:04. > :01:08.with asthma says he will feel Another told me they won't be able

:01:09. > :01:13.to open their windows One resident who's lived

:01:14. > :01:17.in Ballycraigy for 40 years says And what about from

:01:18. > :01:27.an environmental point of view? It depends what way the wind

:01:28. > :01:29.is blowing down towards the house, you get smoke around the roof

:01:30. > :01:38.of the house and the front garden. You are one of the closest

:01:39. > :01:41.to the bonfire. The windows will get

:01:42. > :01:46.fairly hot if the wind is blowing down

:01:47. > :01:49.this way, but I bring a garden hose around

:01:50. > :01:51.to the I will bring in skips

:01:52. > :02:00.to make sure tyres What about some of the more

:02:01. > :02:06.unpleasant messages? Looking at the gunman on that sign,

:02:07. > :02:13.does that annoy you? If you say anything you will be

:02:14. > :02:19.the worst in the world, so you just have to let

:02:20. > :02:23.them get on with it. There appear to be more tyres

:02:24. > :02:27.on other bonfires this year too. Here in Drumtara, those who built it

:02:28. > :02:31.say it's not all made of tyres - But they weren't happy

:02:32. > :02:35.with us filming. We'd agreed to interview a DUP

:02:36. > :02:40.councillor but after she was told by a local resident to say nothing,

:02:41. > :02:43.she declined the opportunity. We condemn the use of tyres due

:02:44. > :02:48.to the environmental and health concerns which arise

:02:49. > :02:51.when they are burnt. We do not own the land

:02:52. > :02:56.on which the bonfire is placed, and we do not have legal

:02:57. > :02:58.remit to remove any We hope the organisers will see

:02:59. > :03:03.the need to remove the tyres to make it a safer and more environmentally

:03:04. > :03:07.responsible event for everyone. One resident told us if we gave

:03:08. > :03:10.the area bad publicity, the bonfire would be twice

:03:11. > :03:13.as big next year. The Environment Minister,

:03:14. > :03:16.Michelle McIlveen, wasn't available for interview but

:03:17. > :03:18.the department said: Lead responsibility

:03:19. > :03:20.for bonfire management rests with local councils

:03:21. > :03:24.and within district-council-led The Northern Ireland Environment

:03:25. > :03:28.Agency will concentrate on progressively reducing the number

:03:29. > :03:33.of tyres being burnt on bonfires. At this smaller

:03:34. > :03:35.bonfire in Kellswater, And it's being built

:03:36. > :03:40.very close to the road. It'll be lunchtime tomorrow before

:03:41. > :03:43.any real assessment can be made Politicians here have been

:03:44. > :03:52.reacting to the news that the Home Secretary Theresa May

:03:53. > :03:54.is to become Prime It's less than three weeks

:03:55. > :03:59.since the Home Secretary paid a visit to Northern Ireland

:04:00. > :04:02.to support the Remain campaign But earlier today Mrs May said

:04:03. > :04:08.Brexit meant Brexit, and she was determined

:04:09. > :04:10.that her government would She will want to work hard to ensure

:04:11. > :04:18.the UK goes forward together as one, so we will be working very closely

:04:19. > :04:22.with the government under Theresa May to ensure that the union is

:04:23. > :04:28.protected and that the UK develops the opportunities that will now

:04:29. > :04:32.arise from new trading relationships with many countries across the globe

:04:33. > :04:38.as well as ensuring we continue to have a strong relationship

:04:39. > :04:41.with the European Union. I would urge Theresa May to do

:04:42. > :04:44.all she can to protect human rights, protect the people

:04:45. > :04:47.here who voted to remain in Europe and the most vulnerable people

:04:48. > :04:51.in society because the previous government under David Cameron

:04:52. > :04:56.has failed miserably. The Secretary of State,

:04:57. > :04:59.Theresa Villiers, backed Mrs May's rival in the Conservative leadership

:05:00. > :05:03.contest, Andrea Leadsom. I asked Ms Villiers for her reaction

:05:04. > :05:07.to today's developments. In many ways I am sad

:05:08. > :05:10.that Andrea felt she had to withdraw from

:05:11. > :05:11.the campaign but I understand and

:05:12. > :05:14.respect that decision, and I think it is very welcome that we can move

:05:15. > :05:22.straightaway to select our new Prime Minister, Theresa May, I am sure,

:05:23. > :05:25.would do a great job. She has my full support

:05:26. > :05:29.and I think dispensing with the need for two

:05:30. > :05:33.months of age difficult leadership election

:05:34. > :05:34.is You say she has your full

:05:35. > :05:38.support but she wasn't What was it about Theresa

:05:39. > :05:43.May that you didn't think she could become

:05:44. > :05:46.Prime Minister? I was always clear the two

:05:47. > :05:49.candidates I thought were the best ones were the ones

:05:50. > :05:51.on the ballot paper, either Andrea or Teresa

:05:52. > :05:54.could My reason for backing

:05:55. > :05:59.Andrea was because we were on the same side in the referendum

:06:00. > :06:03.but I am confident that the reason may respect the decision

:06:04. > :06:07.made in the referendum. I think she will conduct

:06:08. > :06:15.the negotiation with a European neighbours with skill and respect

:06:16. > :06:17.thing the decision made the people Do you trust Theresa

:06:18. > :06:22.May to deliver on the referendum, because as you say

:06:23. > :06:27.she was in the remaining camp? I do, she has been very clear

:06:28. > :06:30.from the moment the result was announced that she

:06:31. > :06:36.respect that it, that Brexit means Brexit and I think

:06:37. > :06:39.the country is in safe Prime Minister and the negotiation

:06:40. > :06:45.of our exit from the European Union Do you think you will remain

:06:46. > :06:54.as Secretary of State for these things

:06:55. > :06:57.are never predictable, I would love to stay on but whether I

:06:58. > :07:01.am not I will come back to visit And her big task is uniting

:07:02. > :07:10.the Conservatives. How difficult do you

:07:11. > :07:14.think that will be? I think it is important all my

:07:15. > :07:17.conservative colleagues get behind We all need to make

:07:18. > :07:24.a success of Brexit so whether we leave or remain, it is in

:07:25. > :07:29.all our interests to be a united party strongly supporting

:07:30. > :07:33.our new Prime Minister and it is a matter of pride to make

:07:34. > :07:36.that the Conservatives have given this country its second

:07:37. > :07:40.woman Prime Minister. Dissident Republican paramilitaries

:07:41. > :07:47.are being blamed for a bomb It was discovered by

:07:48. > :07:53.police over the weekend. Nationalist politicians in Derry

:07:54. > :08:01.have condemned those responsible. Work was continuing as normal

:08:02. > :08:03.today on this development Around 200 new homes are being built

:08:04. > :08:08.as part of a social housing estate. It is here the PSNI found a viable

:08:09. > :08:13.bomb at other component parts The police say the bomb discovered

:08:14. > :08:28.was an improvised explosive device. This is a development with

:08:29. > :08:33.approximately 200 houses that are badly needed in this area.

:08:34. > :08:35.the actions of these people are not welcome.

:08:36. > :08:37.God knows what the aftermath could have been if this

:08:38. > :08:41.Brian Tierney contracted the actions behind this device with other

:08:42. > :08:52.One local councillor described those responsible as reckless thugs

:08:53. > :08:54.He said the major festivals currently attracting thousands

:08:55. > :08:57.of visitors underlie the positive side of a city determined to move

:08:58. > :09:02.These people who support that should be brought on the media to explain

:09:03. > :09:04.why they are still carrying out this type of activity.

:09:05. > :09:07.The police say the operation was part of an investigation

:09:08. > :09:13.As part of that investigation, a 48-year-old man was arrested

:09:14. > :09:15.after a house search in the Creggan area.

:09:16. > :09:22.A man was arrested and subsequently released unconditionally.

:09:23. > :09:26.Bus services have been suspended in a district on the outskirts

:09:27. > :09:30.of west Belfast because of a petrol bomb attack on a bus at the weekend.

:09:31. > :09:33.The union Unite says drivers are not prepared to return

:09:34. > :09:37.to the Lagmore View area until there are safety guarantees.

:09:38. > :09:40.It says it appears that a petrol bomb was deliberately targeted

:09:41. > :09:43.at one of its drivers, also putting the lives

:09:44. > :09:48.The death of a Tyrone man at the weekend has led to fresh

:09:49. > :09:51.calls for greater safety when riding quad bikes.

:09:52. > :09:55.24-year-old Keith Robinson was fatally injured when his quad

:09:56. > :10:02.Flowers at the roadside mark the spot where

:10:03. > :10:09.Keith Robinson from Fivemiletown was riding his quad bike along

:10:10. > :10:12.the Aghintain Road in the early hours of Sunday morning

:10:13. > :10:18.A local councillor said the community has been devastated

:10:19. > :10:22.by the tragedy, and his thoughts are with his parents and sister.

:10:23. > :10:27.He was well known socially, great local mechanics and cars and

:10:28. > :10:33.anything with an engine, and had worked in the garage in Clogher.

:10:34. > :10:36.The accident was reported to the police at about 5am.

:10:37. > :10:40.They said no other vehicle was involved in the collision.

:10:41. > :10:44.The accident here is just the latest involving quad bikes that have

:10:45. > :10:49.resulted in death or serious injury and it has led to renewed appeals to

:10:50. > :10:53.those who use them to take extra care.

:10:54. > :10:56.The safety features on them are not great, there's no protection

:10:57. > :11:00.as such and most of the time when they are used by farmers they don't

:11:01. > :11:07.wear helmets, so they certainly would have to have extreme caution

:11:08. > :11:10.with them because they are easily tipped over.

:11:11. > :11:13.The police have appealed for anyone who may have been travelling

:11:14. > :11:21.on the Aghintain Road yesterday morning to contact them.

:11:22. > :11:24.The Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, has rejected calls for him

:11:25. > :11:29.Some Fine Gael TDs have said the party needs to begin choosing

:11:30. > :11:33.a replacement and he should set a date for his departure.

:11:34. > :11:37.But today Mr Kenny said he had no intention of being diverted

:11:38. > :11:40.from the task of leading the country and delivering

:11:41. > :11:57.The weather is next. We did see some improvement in the

:11:58. > :12:00.weather today. Temperatures up to 20 degrees across parts of the south

:12:01. > :12:05.east. It was fresher towards the north coast and generally over the

:12:06. > :12:08.next few days it will feel fresher. Still some showery bursts in the

:12:09. > :12:13.forecast but some bright or sunny intervals as well. If anything

:12:14. > :12:18.through tonight, the showers ease back towards the north coast. Many

:12:19. > :12:23.inland areas in the dryer with clear spells. These figures are in the

:12:24. > :12:29.towns. Some rural spots could be getting a little bit lower. Tomorrow

:12:30. > :12:34.if you are heading to the parades, it is busy the sunshine and showers

:12:35. > :12:37.so you may want to pack something waterproof. Not too many of the

:12:38. > :12:44.showers are first thing. Many places will get a dry and bright start. The

:12:45. > :12:47.showers became Ms morning onwards. Sunshine and showers across many

:12:48. > :12:50.parts of Britain and Ireland tomorrow. Showers more frequent for

:12:51. > :12:55.Scotland and Ireland. To begin with across Wales, the showers will drift

:12:56. > :13:05.into words England and some may get heavy and sharp wit and which is

:13:06. > :13:08.rising to 20 Celsius. For Northern Ireland, in the afternoon there will

:13:09. > :13:12.be a few showers knocking about, just drifting in from the West and

:13:13. > :13:17.the odd one could be on the sharp side but we will have dry gaps in

:13:18. > :13:20.between and feeling fresh enough at about 16 degrees. On Wednesday,

:13:21. > :13:25.still some showers which will ease off before a ridge of high pressure

:13:26. > :13:28.before another weather system comes in for thirsty and Friday.
