:00:07. > :00:10.People from here caught up in the horrific events in Nice last
:00:11. > :00:12.night have been speaking of their terror and panic.
:00:13. > :00:17.The attack on the city's Bastille Day celebrations left 84
:00:18. > :00:20.dead and scores injured, including an Irish man who is said
:00:21. > :00:41.Fireworks on a sunny summer evening in Nice. This couple were running
:00:42. > :00:47.for their lives, with thousands of others. I look up the street and the
:00:48. > :00:53.next thing I saw was this lorry coming down. The promenade was
:00:54. > :01:00.jam-packed with people. This lorry just mounted the curb, across the
:01:01. > :01:05.street from us. And the next thing, all you could hear was crying and
:01:06. > :01:11.shouting and screaming. I have never seen fear like it in all my life and
:01:12. > :01:16.probably never will again. It was the softest of targets for an attack
:01:17. > :01:21.- families with children, locals and tourists, packed tightly together
:01:22. > :01:26.along the promenade, as a man drove a 20 tonne lorry directly at the
:01:27. > :01:32.crowd, killing indiscriminately. This Belfast business person was
:01:33. > :01:36.eating in a hotel restaurant nearby. People were jumping all over the
:01:37. > :01:41.place, pandemonium, people running up and down. People were not sure
:01:42. > :01:45.what was going on, until a few minutes later, when we were led to
:01:46. > :01:48.believe it was a terrorist attack holeable with direct flights from
:01:49. > :01:53.Belfast and Dublin, Nice is a popular destination for families
:01:54. > :01:56.like this one from Ballyclare. They were leaving the beach after the
:01:57. > :02:00.fireworks when they realised something was terribly wrong. We
:02:01. > :02:05.crossed the road and all of a sudden we heard, everybody started
:02:06. > :02:10.shouting, running, screaming, people will hold their children and crying.
:02:11. > :02:15.Basically I grabbed our children and we just started running, following
:02:16. > :02:19.the crowd. We were all terrified. The death toll now stands at 84. The
:02:20. > :02:24.Irish government says it is concerned that an Irishman has been
:02:25. > :02:28.caught up in the attack. One British national has also been injured.
:02:29. > :02:32.Airlines have urged any holiday-makers who want to change
:02:33. > :02:35.their plans to contact them. But one woman from Belfast who was on the
:02:36. > :02:41.beach last night when the attack happened says the city is safe. It
:02:42. > :02:46.has not put me off staying here. We are here until Tuesday and I am not
:02:47. > :02:52.making any plans to go home early. I would say for anyone coming out
:02:53. > :02:55.here, don't let it put you off. There is a strong police presence
:02:56. > :02:59.and they are taking every precaution they can. Franz Hazlett tired three
:03:00. > :03:04.days of national mourning, as police and security services begin the task
:03:05. > :03:06.of working out how and why this attack was able to take place. --
:03:07. > :03:08.France has declared. Well, this evening,
:03:09. > :03:11.Belfast City Hall is lit up in the colours of the French flag
:03:12. > :03:13.as a mark of solidarity. And some of those who witnessed
:03:14. > :03:16.the terrible scenes on the French Riviera last night
:03:17. > :03:29.have been returning home to Ireland. For this man and his family, it was
:03:30. > :03:34.a huge relief to be back in Dublin. He had been close to the attack as
:03:35. > :03:40.it happened. We were in a cafe, my wife and two kids had come back from
:03:41. > :03:46.the promenade. I saw the white truck driver straight past. It was mowing
:03:47. > :03:51.people down. It was chaos, people started running left, right and
:03:52. > :03:54.centre, ducking for cover, trying to get down, people going into the
:03:55. > :04:00.backs of cafes, just devastation. The devastation he described was too
:04:01. > :04:06.horrific to broadcast. He is just relieved his children did not see
:04:07. > :04:09.it. Also on the flight from Nice this afternoon was James Brown,
:04:10. > :04:13.another Irishman who was also close to the attack. He said it all
:04:14. > :04:19.happened in a matter of minutes. The truck flew by. I said to my wife,
:04:20. > :04:23.God, that's travelling at a terrible speed. There was thousands of
:04:24. > :04:31.people. And then I look and there were just bodies, a trail of bodies.
:04:32. > :04:36.Young, old... So we ran in that direction, to runaway. And as we
:04:37. > :04:40.started to run, we heard the gunshots. It was crystal clear that
:04:41. > :04:46.they were gunshots. The fireworks had finished. James cut his holiday
:04:47. > :04:49.short, and like so many of those on today's flight, was just glad to be
:04:50. > :04:55.back. This evening, City Hall in Belfast is lit up in the colours of
:04:56. > :04:57.the French flag to show solidarity. A book of condolence will open on
:04:58. > :04:59.Monday. On his first full day
:05:00. > :05:02.as the new Secretary of State, James Brokenshire has been talking
:05:03. > :05:04.about his priorities. He says he plans to get the best
:05:05. > :05:07.deal possible for Northern Ireland in the Brexit negotiations
:05:08. > :05:25.and he hopes there won't be I have already had conversations
:05:26. > :05:28.with Frances Fitzgerald, the Irish Interior Minister, to really
:05:29. > :05:32.emphasise the need for good close collaboration and working, so that
:05:33. > :05:35.we can ensure that we are not seeing the return of borders coming into
:05:36. > :05:38.place. I believe there is a really strong commit and from both
:05:39. > :05:40.governments to achieve that. Clearly that is one of the priority items
:05:41. > :05:43.that I will be taking forward. Police are treating the death
:05:44. > :05:45.of a woman in Newtownards as suspicious, and are
:05:46. > :05:47.appealing for information. The body of 33-year-old
:05:48. > :05:49.Joanne Thompson, a mother of four, was found at her home
:05:50. > :05:53.in Old Mill Court by a family member The police want to hear from anyone
:05:54. > :05:56.who witnessed any disturbance or altercation at the 11th night
:05:57. > :05:59.bonfire in the West Winds estate, or saw activity around her home
:06:00. > :06:08.on Tuesday night. It has been a challenging day
:06:09. > :06:10.for the world's best golfers at the Open Championship
:06:11. > :06:12.at Royal Troon. Ireland's four major champions
:06:13. > :06:14.Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke, Graeme McDowell and Padraig
:06:15. > :06:18.Harrington all made the halfway cut, but as Stephen Watson reports,
:06:19. > :06:32.they are all well off the pace. On the tee, from Northern Ireland,
:06:33. > :06:37.Rory McIlory! Broomstick began the day with much expectation, and in
:06:38. > :06:41.wet and windy conditions, got off to a fine start. He produced three
:06:42. > :06:49.excellent birdies in his first seven holes. But mistakes crept in as the
:06:50. > :06:55.round progressed. Kilroy's Potter started to let him down. Though he
:06:56. > :07:02.did rally and bounce back with another birdie. -- McIlory's putter.
:07:03. > :07:09.He is still eight shots off the lead. It is the open championship.
:07:10. > :07:12.The last one I played I got the good end of the draw, and good things
:07:13. > :07:16.happened. This year it is not so much, but I'm not going to let being
:07:17. > :07:21.on the wrong side ruin my week. I feel like I have played very well,
:07:22. > :07:25.and that gives me optimism going into the weekend. I have played the
:07:26. > :07:28.front nine well, especially. If I can get off to summon the start
:07:29. > :07:33.tomorrow, get a bit closer to the leaders, play the back nine a little
:07:34. > :07:38.bit better, you never know. Darren Clarke had this brilliant shot at
:07:39. > :07:44.the 18th hole to set up a birdie and secure his place for the weekend. He
:07:45. > :07:51.is 11 shots off the pace. Graeme McDowell just made the cut, three
:07:52. > :07:54.shots further back. So, Northern Ireland's Major champions with a lot
:07:55. > :08:02.of work to do if they are to have any chance of mounting an Open
:08:03. > :08:05.challenge over the weekend. In the League of Ireland Premier division
:08:06. > :08:10.tonight, Derry City were in action, and they beat Longford town 4-0. It
:08:11. > :08:14.is a result which leaves them third in the league table.
:08:15. > :08:21.Now with the weekend weather forecast, here's Angie Philips.
:08:22. > :08:24.We had some very humid air over us today.
:08:25. > :08:28.25 Celsius at one point in County Down.
:08:29. > :08:35.It will be turning a little bit fresher through the weekend.
:08:36. > :08:37.There will be patchy rain here and there,
:08:38. > :08:40.There will be a good deal of dry weather.
:08:41. > :08:42.It will turn drier through the second half
:08:43. > :08:46.And less humid, with lows around 9 or 10 degrees.
:08:47. > :08:53.Tomorrow, patchy rain for some parts, mainly later in the day.
:08:54. > :08:56.Lots of dry weather in the morning, with bright intervals.
:08:57. > :09:01.This dry slot extends into southern and eastern Scotland.
:09:02. > :09:04.That band of rain this evening edges south into the Republic of Ireland,
:09:05. > :09:11.To the south of that, some very warm and humid air,
:09:12. > :09:16.To the north of that band, it is fresher air
:09:17. > :09:20.Showers in Scotland, and also possibly affecting northern
:09:21. > :09:30.parts of Northern Ireland later in the afternoon.
:09:31. > :09:37.But mainly patchy. Elsewhere, especially towards the south, it
:09:38. > :09:42.stays dry. Not as warm as today. First to average, and it should feel
:09:43. > :09:45.fairly present. It is likely that the rain will linger tomorrow night
:09:46. > :09:51.in the north. It clears away on Sunday morning. Sunday should be
:09:52. > :09:53.mainly dry for many of us. Warmer into next week.
