:00:08. > :00:11.A man's been arrested over an alleged serious sexual assault

:00:12. > :00:16.The attack is said to have taken place near a park in West Belfast.

:00:17. > :00:23.The police investigation follows a report of a serious sexual assault

:00:24. > :00:25.on a young man here on a pathway through waste ground

:00:26. > :00:35.The victim is believed to be a teenager, who was on his own

:00:36. > :00:39.The park itself is closed at night, but the path is regularly

:00:40. > :00:51.A West Belfast councillor says it was a horrendous incident.

:00:52. > :01:01.People are obviously shocked about serious incident. It should be a

:01:02. > :01:07.safe place for young and old alike and this is obviously very traumatic

:01:08. > :01:09.for the individual concerned. I think people are in shock by it.

:01:10. > :01:12.Police have thanked members of the community for their help

:01:13. > :01:14.in the investigation so far, and appealed for anyone else

:01:15. > :01:22.This evening, a man in his 30s is in custody.

:01:23. > :01:27.The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said the possibility of a border poll

:01:28. > :01:29.should be considered in discussions on Brexit.

:01:30. > :01:32.Nationalists have called for such a poll after a majority

:01:33. > :01:37.in Northern Ireland voted to stay in the European Union.

:01:38. > :01:44.Mr Kenny spoke as he attended a summer school in County Donegal.

:01:45. > :01:50.The discussions and negotiations that take place over the next period

:01:51. > :01:54.should take into account the possibility, however far out it

:01:55. > :01:59.might be, that the clause in the Good Friday Agreement might be

:02:00. > :02:02.triggered in that if there is clear evidence of a majority of people

:02:03. > :02:07.wishing to leave the United Kingdom to join the Republic, such that

:02:08. > :02:08.should be catered for in the discussions that take place.

:02:09. > :02:11.Earlier today the new Secretary of State, on his first official

:02:12. > :02:13.visit to Northern Ireland, ruled out the need

:02:14. > :02:17.James Brokenshire also said it was difficult to see how

:02:18. > :02:20.Northern Ireland could stay in the European Union.

:02:21. > :02:24.This from our political correspondent Gareth Gordon.

:02:25. > :02:28.Security issues at home no longer dominate the in-trays

:02:29. > :02:34.Ironic then that James Brokenshire's first official duty involved signing

:02:35. > :02:40.a book of condolence for those murdered in Nice.

:02:41. > :02:52.He campaigned for the UK to remain in the EU so could Northern Ireland

:02:53. > :03:01.Now he must make sure Northern Ireland leaves with the best terms

:03:02. > :03:07.possible. But the Prime Minister said last week she was willing to

:03:08. > :03:11.listen to options on Scotland's relationship with the EU? Does that

:03:12. > :03:14.mean both Scotland and Northern Ireland could remain in while the

:03:15. > :03:17.rest of the country leaves? It is difficult to see how

:03:18. > :03:19.that could work. We need to focus on the best

:03:20. > :03:23.possible outcome for Northern Ireland as part

:03:24. > :03:35.of the United Kingdom outside Those words were quickly dismissed

:03:36. > :03:45.by the man leading the fight to keep this part of the country as part of

:03:46. > :03:52.the EU? The last time he stood here... He got only 3000 votes. He

:03:53. > :04:05.does not represent anybody here. We see our future in Europe. Sinn Fein

:04:06. > :04:08.has welcomed comments by the Fianna Fail leader in that it could

:04:09. > :04:13.possibly bring about a new border poll. But the new man at the NIU

:04:14. > :04:16.ruled that I think there is a clear

:04:17. > :04:18.constitutional settlement It is also clear to me that opinion

:04:19. > :04:22.does not support a change. Clearly, we act on the basis

:04:23. > :04:25.of consent, but I strongly believe in the union,

:04:26. > :04:27.the strength of the countries Even though he wanted

:04:28. > :04:33.to remain in the EU, the message from the new Secretary

:04:34. > :04:36.of State is that it is time for everyone to get together

:04:37. > :04:38.and back decision to leave. Northern Ireland MPs have taken part

:04:39. > :04:47.in tonight's House of Commons debate on whether the Government should

:04:48. > :04:50.renew the UK's Trident nuclear A short time ago the House voted

:04:51. > :04:57.to approve the measure Unionist and nationalist MPs

:04:58. > :05:11.were on opposite sides Can I congratulate the Prime

:05:12. > :05:14.Minister on her sure-footedness in bringing the motion before the house

:05:15. > :05:18.and the blast allowing Parliament in this session to make a decision? We

:05:19. > :05:27.will proudly stand behind the Government -- and at last. Could I

:05:28. > :05:30.encourage the Scottish nationalists that if they don't want to lose jobs

:05:31. > :05:34.in Scotland they will be happily taken in Northern Ireland? I have

:05:35. > :05:40.yet to hear any reason why nuclear were make Britain safer than states

:05:41. > :05:45.like Germany, Canada or Japan who are not armed. There is no genuine

:05:46. > :05:48.security argument for the UK to spend these vast sums of money on

:05:49. > :05:51.weapons that can never be used. A priest in Londonderry has said no

:05:52. > :05:54.words can lessen the pain of the parents of a toddler

:05:55. > :05:58.who was knocked down Two-year-old Ronan McGavigan had

:05:59. > :06:01.been playing when he ran out onto the road at his home

:06:02. > :06:03.in the Brandywell area. Fr Eamon Graham said the boy's

:06:04. > :06:09.family were heartbroken. They described him as somebody

:06:10. > :06:11.who had turned their lives round in the past two years,

:06:12. > :06:15.the amount of good that he had done, They said he was full of devilment

:06:16. > :06:21.and you couldn't get His mummy said, even if she

:06:22. > :06:25.chastised him, he just would turn around and say,

:06:26. > :06:28."I love you," you know, And he just seemed to be, I suppose,

:06:29. > :06:34.a typical two-year-old, full of life, full of goodness,

:06:35. > :06:38.full of joy. A man who was injured

:06:39. > :06:40.in an industrial incident His co-worker, who was also trapped,

:06:41. > :06:43.was discharged from hospital The incident happened at the Terex

:06:44. > :06:49.manufacturing plant last Thursday. The company says it will be working

:06:50. > :06:52.with investigators to Stevie McTeague, who was 51

:06:53. > :07:08.and married with two children, My husband, he personally knew him

:07:09. > :07:14.very well and speaking to members of the committee, says he was the most

:07:15. > :07:17.quiet and gentle man. Bat community. They had known him for years.

:07:18. > :07:20.Hard-working, kept his head down. There is genuine sorrow in the local

:07:21. > :07:20.community. A 70-year-old disabled woman says

:07:21. > :07:24.she has no idea why shots were fired Vera Smyth has lived in the area

:07:25. > :07:28.for almost 50 years. It's thought up to five shots

:07:29. > :07:34.were fired at this house, shattering not just the double

:07:35. > :07:36.glazing but the 70-year-old One of her sons and his

:07:37. > :07:42.partner were with her All of a sudden, we heard

:07:43. > :07:46.a bang, bang, bang. I had heard shots before but not

:07:47. > :07:56.as close as they were last night. It frightened the life

:07:57. > :08:10.came out of me. You can see the television took one

:08:11. > :08:15.of the bullets and the wall too. It was just a warning shot

:08:16. > :08:17.because it is very I think it was a drive-by

:08:18. > :08:23.or something because if they had stood outside the door,

:08:24. > :08:45.they would have been more accurate. See says despite what has happened

:08:46. > :08:47.she won't be leaving from her home. Why should I move? We have got good

:08:48. > :08:50.neighbours in this district. The police also say they don't know

:08:51. > :08:53.why she was attacked. The owner of a dog seized by council

:08:54. > :08:59.wardens says he fears for its life. He believes his dog,

:09:00. > :09:02.called Hank, is a Labrador But Belfast City Council

:09:03. > :09:08.is assessing the dog to see if it could be partly pitbull -

:09:09. > :09:11.considered by law to be dangerous. Rick Faragher's report begins

:09:12. > :09:14.with the dog's owner. Hank is a Staffordshire

:09:15. > :09:15.Labrador cross. We have had time since he went he

:09:16. > :09:28.was eight years old. This man says he has been

:09:29. > :09:31.the heartbroken and cannot He has been to the vets

:09:32. > :09:35.numerous times. He has seen public trainers

:09:36. > :09:38.and behavioural experts, just to alleviate behaviour

:09:39. > :09:40.like barking at people Leonard returned home to find

:09:41. > :09:46.warrants from Belfast City Council. A warden had entered his home

:09:47. > :09:50.and taken Hank away. He says Hank has never shown

:09:51. > :09:53.signs of aggression. He is very lazy, he sits

:09:54. > :09:59.on my bed 90% of the day. He wants to play tug-of-war

:10:00. > :10:06.and go out for walks. This is where Hank calls home

:10:07. > :10:09.and where he was taken from last week, on suspicion of being one

:10:10. > :10:12.of the four illegal dog breeds If the authorities decide

:10:13. > :10:17.he belongs on this list, In a statement, Belfast City Council

:10:18. > :10:24.say that Hank has been taken away for testing but no decision has been

:10:25. > :10:27.made in relation to this case. They also say that Hank

:10:28. > :10:32.is being well looked They add that a decision

:10:33. > :10:36.whether a dog is deemed illegal is based on the animal's

:10:37. > :10:41.physical and temperament. Hank has been taken from his home

:10:42. > :10:46.and put in kennels somewhere. He is also going to be put

:10:47. > :10:53.through a barrage of tests to ascertain if he is

:10:54. > :10:55.an aggressive type dog. He has been been put

:10:56. > :11:00.through stressful situations. To think he could die

:11:01. > :11:05.because of that. Leonard says he now fears his best

:11:06. > :11:08.friend might never be Two body boarders were rescued

:11:09. > :11:18.from rocks in Portrush yesterday after strong waves trapped them

:11:19. > :11:22.in a cave. The men suffered cuts,

:11:23. > :11:25.bruises and showed signs of exhaustion following the incident

:11:26. > :11:28.at Whiterock's beach. The RNLI has appealed to the public

:11:29. > :11:40.to take care on the coastline. It is fantastic to see people using

:11:41. > :11:44.the beaches with the weather but there are dangers around the ocean

:11:45. > :11:49.and we ask that people feel free to ask any questions they have about

:11:50. > :11:53.the ocean and beach do lifeguards who are experts. Any questions you

:11:54. > :11:54.have, if it keeps you safe, that is what we want.

:11:55. > :11:59.The weather forecast now, with Angie Philips.

:12:00. > :12:07.Good evening. We have some humid air and that he'd will be with us

:12:08. > :12:12.tomorrow. Warm sunshine once again. From mid week onwards it will

:12:13. > :12:16.change. A little bit fresher but also a bit showery. Mainly dry for

:12:17. > :12:23.tonight and a very muggy night to come. Could be uncomfortable for

:12:24. > :12:30.sleeping. We are also expecting some mist and sea fog in two parts of the

:12:31. > :12:33.down and Antrim coast. Tomorrow is some hot spells of sunshine,

:12:34. > :12:42.possibly even hotter than today. Some downpours like later. The East

:12:43. > :12:46.Coast could take a bit of the morning for the most and far too

:12:47. > :12:51.clear. Pretty much the same across the rest of Britain and Ireland.

:12:52. > :12:57.Sunshine around. Very hot in the south. Quite stifling. Temperatures

:12:58. > :13:02.into the high 20s as far north as southern Scotland. For Northern

:13:03. > :13:07.Ireland some hot sunshine, along the east coast, temperatures may be in

:13:08. > :13:11.the low 20s but mid to high 20s inland and towards the west we could

:13:12. > :13:16.see 27. Then we get those downpours into the West later in the afternoon

:13:17. > :13:19.and some will edge East through the evening. Not all parts catch them

:13:20. > :13:24.but you will certainly know when they do. A warning that rain is in

:13:25. > :13:30.place. Likely to be some torrential rain and maybe even some localised

:13:31. > :13:32.flash flooding. It turns pressure beyond the. That is all, good night.
