:00:24. > :00:25.from Northern Ireland, believed to be in connection

:00:26. > :00:31.Searches have also taken place here in Larne where police made

:00:32. > :00:36.significant explosives finds earlier this year.

:00:37. > :00:39.Funds are approved for a Glens community project after a row over

:00:40. > :00:47.Fear and claims of bullying - how staff relations broke down

:00:48. > :00:52.Also coming up on the programme: Trying on the jersey -

:00:53. > :01:02.Syrian refugees get a taste of Ulster rugby.

:01:03. > :01:07.I'm in Dublin as Tim Ireland return from the Olympic Games in Rio. But

:01:08. > :01:09.like I'm in Ireland. Beautiful day today and there's more

:01:10. > :01:12.good weather to come for most over A Royal Marine has been arrested

:01:13. > :01:20.in the south-west of England and searches are being carried out

:01:21. > :01:22.several locations near The moves are part of

:01:23. > :01:26.an investigation into Several police forces have been

:01:27. > :01:33.involved in the operation. The 30-year-old man was detained

:01:34. > :01:36.in Somerset by counter-terrorism officers

:01:37. > :01:38.from the Metropolitan Police. A short time ago Devon and Cornwall

:01:39. > :01:50.police gave some more details He was arrested at 12:20pm by

:01:51. > :01:54.Metropolitan Police counterterrorism officers. They were supported by

:01:55. > :01:58.colleagues from Avon and Somerset and Devon and Cornwall. The man was

:01:59. > :02:06.arrested on suspicion of being involved in the preparation for acts

:02:07. > :02:10.of terrorism. Today's arrest was preplanned and intelligence led as

:02:11. > :02:13.part of an investigation into Northern Ireland related terrorism.

:02:14. > :02:17.Searches are being conducted under section five of the terrorism act at

:02:18. > :02:22.an address in ex-minister. Further searches are taking place in a

:02:23. > :02:25.wooded area which has been cordoned off and also in Northern Ireland.

:02:26. > :02:27.Here at home, houses have been searched in and around Larne.

:02:28. > :02:41.That 30-year-old man arrested was a Royal Marine and originally from the

:02:42. > :02:49.Larne area. The search operation has been going on all afternoon. It has

:02:50. > :02:53.been a significant police presence, heavily armed police, forensic

:02:54. > :02:56.officers and Army technical officers, who would routinely be

:02:57. > :03:03.deployed whether there is an explosive split. Two properties were

:03:04. > :03:06.being searched and bags of material taking an ad out and police taking a

:03:07. > :03:12.ladder into one of those properties but they also could be other

:03:13. > :03:16.properties being searched. Certainly a significant operation but the road

:03:17. > :03:23.did remain open throughout so there was limited disruption. The I are

:03:24. > :03:29.working with three forces in England and the evidence they gather will be

:03:30. > :03:36.shared with those. -- the PSNI working with forces in England. That

:03:37. > :03:41.follows the discovery of recovery of explosives went the Republicans

:03:42. > :03:47.earlier this year. Among the others. That might remind us of those. Larne

:03:48. > :03:50.would have more association with loyalist paramilitaries but earlier

:03:51. > :03:55.this year not far from here there were two significant terrorist

:03:56. > :03:59.hideout, as police described them, went to do this better than

:04:00. > :04:09.Republicans. -- linked to dissident republicans. One object was found to

:04:10. > :04:13.be barrels buried any wooded area containing home-made explosives. It

:04:14. > :04:19.was a popular park and was closed for several days. The second find

:04:20. > :04:25.was in May of this year in a forest and end that the weapons were

:04:26. > :04:29.disguised in a similar way. On that occasion armour piercing and provide

:04:30. > :04:33.rockets were found and antipersonnel mines. At that time the police said

:04:34. > :04:38.it was on of the most significant arms find in recent times. Important

:04:39. > :04:43.to remember in Great Britain the terrorist threat from Northern Irish

:04:44. > :04:47.-based terrorism is substantial at the moment, the threat in Northern

:04:48. > :04:48.Ireland is severe and for people here witnessing the scale of this

:04:49. > :04:52.operation that is all too clear. Daniel Sandford is our

:04:53. > :04:53.Home Affairs Correspondent Daniel, what more can you tell us

:04:54. > :05:10.about that police operation? After the discovery of those frames

:05:11. > :05:14.in Larne of what appeared to be dissident weaponry that like frames.

:05:15. > :05:18.An investigation was set up involving the security service MI5

:05:19. > :05:23.and led by the Metropolitan Police's counterterrorism command. That was

:05:24. > :05:28.an operation that started pretty much back in May and working

:05:29. > :05:34.alongside the PSNI. Today's arrest is the culmination of months of

:05:35. > :05:37.work. It is effectively an intelligence operation, intelligence

:05:38. > :05:45.led police operation today will stop it was not a sudden panic arrest or

:05:46. > :05:49.in the middle of the morning when something was found. This was the

:05:50. > :05:55.free plan arrest of a Royal Marine serving in the West Country. --

:05:56. > :05:59.preplanned arrest. Soon after the house in Axminster, a small suburb

:06:00. > :06:07.south of Exeter was searched as was a wooded area very nearby. This was

:06:08. > :06:17.one planned operation based on intelligence that arose out of those

:06:18. > :06:21.two back in town back in May. -- those frames in Larne enemy. -- in

:06:22. > :06:23.May. The BBC News correspondent

:06:24. > :06:25.Jon Kay is in Exminster. There was a news conference

:06:26. > :06:27.by the police there What more did they say about the man

:06:28. > :06:33.arrested and the operation? They were trying to reassure people

:06:34. > :06:35.here that this does not really affect them directly and reassuring

:06:36. > :06:39.people because they are nervous. This might have been a long time in

:06:40. > :06:42.the planning for police what happened out of the blue for people

:06:43. > :06:47.in this very rural part of Devon. This is a little estates and people

:06:48. > :06:53.looking out their windows wondering what is going on and why are police

:06:54. > :06:59.now searching the house in the middle of that tennis blocks. What

:07:00. > :07:04.is going on is what the keep asking. Have we any idea when this operation

:07:05. > :07:10.will end and if those searches will continue through the evening? That

:07:11. > :07:15.does not seem to be any sign at the moment they will stop soon. More

:07:16. > :07:18.officers have gone in and it is not just here at the house. Daniel

:07:19. > :07:24.referred to wooded area one mile from here, the road has been blocked

:07:25. > :07:28.by police so we cannot see exactly what is going on but we understand

:07:29. > :07:38.parents are being erected and a number of officers are involved in

:07:39. > :07:43.that search. Not much detail being given but that has been planned for

:07:44. > :07:47.some time and as soon as arrest happened a statement went out to the

:07:48. > :07:56.media within minutes to inform them, not only that had happened but also

:07:57. > :07:59.searches were underway here as well. If we have anything more on that

:08:00. > :07:59.story we will bring it straight to you.

:08:00. > :08:01.You're watching BBC Newsline and still to come,

:08:02. > :08:04.how thousands of homes could get their power from the waves

:08:05. > :08:16.Last night we brought you the controversy over funding

:08:17. > :08:18.for a GAA community centre in the Glens of Antrim.

:08:19. > :08:20.The Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has

:08:21. > :08:29.voted to approve ?180,000 for a cross community project.

:08:30. > :08:32.The decision comes after a row over the ground's gates which bear

:08:33. > :08:35.the names of two IRA men killed almost 100 years ago.

:08:36. > :08:40.Our north east reporter Sara Girvin has the details.

:08:41. > :08:48.These are the dates that sparked a political row in the Glens of

:08:49. > :08:54.Antrim. They commemorate to IRA men. They were killed in 1922. The DUP

:08:55. > :08:58.said if they are living at the site they could re-traumatised people

:08:59. > :09:08.affected by terrorism. Last week members of the GAA club voted to

:09:09. > :09:14.move them from the date. Last night by the narrowest of margins and

:09:15. > :09:19.behind closed doors the Council approved ?180,000 in funding for the

:09:20. > :09:25.community centre. Sinn Fein accused the DUP of jeopardising the project,

:09:26. > :09:31.nothing. It was a nonissue, the gates. It is a sideshow to try to

:09:32. > :09:35.distract attention from any money being spent here. I understand the

:09:36. > :09:42.gates of the place, there is no issue. There is no conditions on the

:09:43. > :09:46.funding. A lot of good around our district could learn from this. The

:09:47. > :09:52.DUP said they were disappointed with last night's decision. This has

:09:53. > :09:58.caused a lot of bad feeling in the area and left a sense of confusion.

:09:59. > :10:01.One thing is for sure, it is getting its new community centre.

:10:02. > :10:04.Police in Brazil say they've discovered emails linking the former

:10:05. > :10:07.President of the Olympic Council of Ireland Pat Hickey and the head

:10:08. > :10:12.of a company alleged to have illegally resold Olympic tickets.

:10:13. > :10:15.Mr Hickey was arrested in Rio de Janeiro a week ago.

:10:16. > :10:21.The Bangor man Stephen Martin who is Chief Executive of the OCI

:10:22. > :10:28.His passport was seized, along with those of other

:10:29. > :10:46.Detectives said uncovered e-mail contact between Pat Hickey and

:10:47. > :10:51.Marcus Evans, the owner of the ticketing agency. As recently as

:10:52. > :10:57.August the 3rd this year. They are not the fight agency for resale in

:10:58. > :11:01.Ireland's Olympic tickets. The police investigators said Mr

:11:02. > :11:05.Hickey's e-mail discussed the sale of tickets and one e-mail referred

:11:06. > :11:13.to an apparent surplus of tickets for the opening closing ceremonies

:11:14. > :11:17.in Rio. THG or not Marcus Bevan said he could use them all if you wish.

:11:18. > :11:21.Evans was recorded as saying he would it have more than enough but

:11:22. > :11:30.said he was hopeful of reselling the tickets. They spoke about the

:11:31. > :11:37.tickets in Rio 2016 on the 3rd of August Marcus Evans, Pat Hickey sent

:11:38. > :11:45.a message that Marcus Evans that Marcus Evans could use all the

:11:46. > :11:50.tickets that were reserved. Other e-mails should contact between Mr

:11:51. > :11:54.Hickey and Mr Evans in 2010. THG have a contract for selling tickets

:11:55. > :12:02.with the OCI which expired after the last Winter Olympics. Pat Hickey's

:12:03. > :12:06.lawyers denied the allegations. OCI official, one of the OCI orbitals

:12:07. > :12:12.who have their passports seized by police last week, was told he was

:12:13. > :12:17.free to read real after meeting investigating officers. -- one of

:12:18. > :12:20.the OCI officials. Two more OCI officials who had their passports

:12:21. > :12:29.seized are due to meet with police officers tomorrow in Brazil.

:12:30. > :12:32.Still to come, new faces join the men of Euro 2016 for the Northern

:12:33. > :12:36.Ireland football team's next campaign.

:12:37. > :12:39.An investigation has found there was a serious breakdown

:12:40. > :12:40.of staff relationships at a west Belfast school.

:12:41. > :12:43.The report, published by the Department of Education,

:12:44. > :12:46.says individual staff at De La Salle College described

:12:47. > :12:49.a culture of fear, with claims of bullying and intimidation.

:12:50. > :12:52.It says the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools

:12:53. > :12:56.should have intervened sooner to resolve difficulties,

:12:57. > :13:05.as our Education Correspondent Robbie Meredith reports:

:13:06. > :13:12.It is a west Belfast school that has seen protests by some parents and

:13:13. > :13:16.some pupils. Now the extent of the problem at De La Salle College have

:13:17. > :13:22.been laid bare. According to the report, there was a culture of

:13:23. > :13:27.rumour and misinformation. And a history of disputes over selection

:13:28. > :13:31.of individuals for particular posts. There was a serious breakdown of

:13:32. > :13:35.working relationships which impacted substantially on the pupils they

:13:36. > :13:40.are. Classes were often disrupted because of teacher absences. Despite

:13:41. > :13:46.that what the report said the school did not ask the local exam board for

:13:47. > :13:51.any extra time or other special circumstances for pupils sitting

:13:52. > :13:57.A-levels or GCSEs. That has come as a shock to parent representatives.

:13:58. > :14:01.We were assured there would be special dispensation for their

:14:02. > :14:07.exams. The committee was assured, the full committee, were assured

:14:08. > :14:11.that would be the case and the report states that was not. The

:14:12. > :14:14.report says there was no single cause for the problems and not

:14:15. > :14:21.solely down to the principle but it is critical of CCMS, senior debut of

:14:22. > :14:27.the problems for more than two years. The report breaks down into

:14:28. > :14:31.immediate action is to focus on an wider strategic actions and it is

:14:32. > :14:35.important all players play their part in trying to resolve the issues

:14:36. > :14:43.and making sure we do not have another issue like this down the

:14:44. > :14:48.line. The report suggests 40 improvements. With the newts are

:14:49. > :14:53.about to start many will need to be implemented straightaway. -- with

:14:54. > :14:54.the new town about to start. -- Newtown.

:14:55. > :14:56.The former Sinn Fein MLA, Philip McGuigan, is to replace

:14:57. > :14:58.Daithi McKay as the party's assembly member in North Antrim.

:14:59. > :15:01.It follows Mr McKay's resignation after it was revealed he had been

:15:02. > :15:04.involved in advsing the loyalist blogger Jamie Bryson on how to give

:15:05. > :15:11.Next, a plan for 50 tidal turbines submerged off

:15:12. > :15:18.Fair Head Tidal says if approved the project will generate power

:15:19. > :15:21.Before a planning application is submitted next month,

:15:22. > :15:23.the company has been explaining its plans

:15:24. > :15:25.Our Agriculture and Environment Correspondent

:15:26. > :15:42.BBC conditions make it ideal for tidal power. -- BBC conditions. The

:15:43. > :15:49.strong currents can generate lots of electricity. Some of the systems are

:15:50. > :15:53.totally submerged. Many could see some sort of service tower above the

:15:54. > :15:58.waves, perhaps ten in all. The company behind the project note that

:15:59. > :16:03.could mean some opposition so they are explaining their proposal to

:16:04. > :16:09.coastal communities. Today it was this term. People in and around the

:16:10. > :16:14.area have sensitivities and were concerned about the visible aspect

:16:15. > :16:17.of it. People in Ballycastle will not be impacted so were not

:16:18. > :16:23.concerned. Talking to people in Rathlin Island, where it will be

:16:24. > :16:28.partially visible, they are fully supportive of the project. If given

:16:29. > :16:32.the go-ahead it will proceed in two phases, the first was a relatively

:16:33. > :16:35.small number of turbines in the water with the second big stage

:16:36. > :16:43.completed following a couple of years later. The other big issue is

:16:44. > :16:47.the impact on commercial fishing. The area earmarked is an important

:16:48. > :16:51.crab and lobster grant who want to know what it means for them. We have

:16:52. > :16:55.some of the best lobster fishing in the country, very clean and tidal

:16:56. > :17:03.water, exactly where they are proposing to build the turbines.

:17:04. > :17:10.Exactly whether it is a lobster fishery and it would have an impact.

:17:11. > :17:16.A serious impact. As long as the project is taking the right approach

:17:17. > :17:21.to the fishermen. There are having talks with the company of

:17:22. > :17:25.compensation and potential spend of works in the construction and

:17:26. > :17:28.maintenance. The project has several obstacles to overcome before it

:17:29. > :17:33.becomes a reality, planning approval, finance and, not least,

:17:34. > :17:40.the issue of whether norther Ireland's infrastructure can offer

:17:41. > :17:46.the connection it needs to be great. -- to the flight-mac. -- to the

:17:47. > :17:47.grid. Upsetting images of Syrian children

:17:48. > :17:50.have been all too familiar But today many Syrian children had

:17:51. > :17:54.smiles on their faces as they and their families enjoyed

:17:55. > :17:56.a day out in Belfast. They moved to Northern

:17:57. > :17:58.Ireland before Christmas. Our reporter Aileen Moynagh has more

:17:59. > :18:08.on today's special trip. Syria is not known as a rugby nation

:18:09. > :18:15.but perhaps was in this group of Syrian children there is the next

:18:16. > :18:19.Brian O'Driscoll. The wingspan stadium is the home of Ulster Rugby

:18:20. > :18:24.and Northern Ireland is now home for these families who escape the

:18:25. > :18:31.horrors of conflict. This morning about 30 men, women and children

:18:32. > :18:40.enjoyed it to the sporting grounds. Very welcome to the wingspan

:18:41. > :18:47.stadium. -- wingspan. VIP access to all areas, from the main stand to

:18:48. > :18:52.the gym. The changing rooms and the dugouts. And the families certainly

:18:53. > :19:01.seemed to enjoy their new lives here. I feel so happy here in

:19:02. > :19:07.Belfast. Here everybody in Belfast and Ireland are very friendly. The

:19:08. > :19:15.people are friendly. What do you think of the food's not so good.

:19:16. > :19:18.This will give them a taste of what is on offer and through the

:19:19. > :19:22.interpreter we will talk about the sport of rugby and how they can get

:19:23. > :19:28.engaged in the game or even just watch it on TV and become a fan.

:19:29. > :19:40.Rugby is so good and amazing. I like it. I cannot play it but I would

:19:41. > :19:45.like to. They may not like that but rugby is a sport for boys and girls.

:19:46. > :19:51.Maybe there is no harm in trying the kids out for size, just in case.

:19:52. > :19:53.Many of Team Ireland's competitors have returned home

:19:54. > :20:00.While silver medals were won in sailing and rowing,

:20:01. > :20:04.many of the athletes achieved personal bests and were better

:20:05. > :20:12.Thomas Kane is at Dublin Airport for us.

:20:13. > :20:21.This is one of those Olympic silver medal and soon I will be glad to the

:20:22. > :20:29.owner because the island touched down about one hour ago at Dublin

:20:30. > :20:36.airport and I got up with boxers. I trained so hard and circumstances,

:20:37. > :20:47.that's why I lost. The only positive I can take is helping my team and

:20:48. > :20:54.country out. I still believe what I said was the truth and me being

:20:55. > :20:58.honest. Even though it was a bit crazy I have a bit of regret not

:20:59. > :21:03.seeing it so I am happy with myself and I know what happened and what

:21:04. > :21:07.went on and it is what it is. I am delighted to come back you and have

:21:08. > :21:16.a funeral's welcome. Back with the fans and Ivan, it is fantastic. -- a

:21:17. > :21:24.funeral's welcome. How much support have you received? Everyone is

:21:25. > :21:31.saying they are all behind me. They said I'm a folk hero in Canada. It

:21:32. > :21:36.is fantastic. The support has been overwhelming. It has made it a lot

:21:37. > :21:41.easier. You will be glad to know I have been given a priceless medal,

:21:42. > :21:47.given the priceless medal back to his owner. What the games you have.

:21:48. > :21:50.How big an impact do you think it's made of? I was on my own bubble for

:21:51. > :21:55.the entire competition so I did not realise just how big a reception I

:21:56. > :22:00.was going to have from everyone watching at home. I knew a bit more

:22:01. > :22:04.after London when everyone got quite excited so I knew there was going to

:22:05. > :22:08.be some follow was but I was blown away by the support when I got back

:22:09. > :22:11.onto social media and saw what was happening.

:22:12. > :22:14.You arrive back 24 hours ahead of most of the squad. What kind of

:22:15. > :22:19.reaction have you had? It has been given little bit crazy. Just all

:22:20. > :22:23.these cameras flashing in most cases. I was overwhelmed by the

:22:24. > :22:27.whole thing but I just got to go home and have dinner with the family

:22:28. > :22:34.and get a good sleep and then I came in to support the rest of the team

:22:35. > :22:38.arriving now. How do you feel your success will inspire others to dig

:22:39. > :22:44.up sailing? I really hope people will get interested in sailing and

:22:45. > :22:47.see what kind of sport that is. I sell a daily and a lot of people

:22:48. > :22:54.think big yacht out on sea and do not realise Olympic sailing is done

:22:55. > :23:00.in small boats. -- I sail AZA. We have clubs all over the country and

:23:01. > :23:05.I think a lot of people would go to Google. Thank you very much and

:23:06. > :23:09.congratulations once again. Only 1444 days until Tokyo.

:23:10. > :23:10.Thanks, Thomas. After the excitement of the European

:23:11. > :23:13.Football Championships this summer, attention quickly turns now

:23:14. > :23:22.to the World Cup. Northern Ireland's first

:23:23. > :23:24.qualifier is next week away Manager Michael O'Neill today called

:23:25. > :23:27.up two new uncapped players, Tom Flanagan and Michael Duffy,

:23:28. > :23:29.while retaining most But there's no place

:23:30. > :23:33.for Roy Carroll. Stephen Watson spoke

:23:34. > :23:34.to O'Neill today and started by asking him about the omission

:23:35. > :23:40.of the experienced goalkeeper. Roy has been a great player in the

:23:41. > :23:43.time I have had 10am sure he will be a great player this season and if I

:23:44. > :23:47.ever needs and I know he would be ready to play. Have to work out how

:23:48. > :23:53.you can do that again after what was a lament the summer? Since 1950

:23:54. > :24:00.Germany have won their World Cup qualifying group every time a, bar

:24:01. > :24:06.twice, so that gives you an idea of the size of the task we face. There

:24:07. > :24:11.is only one automatic qualifying spots and it will be very difficult

:24:12. > :24:15.but we will endeavour to be competitive as possible. There is a

:24:16. > :24:18.play-off spot for second place and ourselves, Norway and Czech Republic

:24:19. > :24:24.will battle for that. We want to make sure we are competitive as

:24:25. > :24:29.possible and we must make sure, as I say, we get a positive start and get

:24:30. > :24:34.momentum into the qualification. Just see what it takes us. How easy

:24:35. > :24:37.or difficult to do think it will be to lift this group of players again

:24:38. > :24:43.to achieve what they have already achieved? A lot of those players

:24:44. > :24:48.have played a lot of international football with the experiences were

:24:49. > :24:51.not as positive so whence you have experienced being in a major final

:24:52. > :24:56.it whets your appetite and we see that with the fact that Chris was

:24:57. > :25:02.the only player who decided not to go forward with the squad. We were

:25:03. > :25:08.relying on our key players so it will be a big challenge but I think

:25:09. > :25:09.the squad is in as good a place as it could possibly be to meet that

:25:10. > :25:09.challenge. The Republic of Ireland captain,

:25:10. > :25:11.Robbie Keane, has announced he is to retire from international

:25:12. > :25:15.football at the age of 36. Keane, who has 145 senior caps,

:25:16. > :25:18.is due to play his last match for the national team in a friendly

:25:19. > :25:21.game against Oman The LA Galaxy forward got has played

:25:22. > :25:25.for the Republic for the past 18 years and is his country's all

:25:26. > :25:37.time leading scorer, with 67 goals. We thought you might like to see

:25:38. > :25:42.these net pictures captured by chance by one of our cameramen

:25:43. > :25:46.today. Dolphins off the north coast. A magnificent sight. A pod of

:25:47. > :25:53.dolphins accompany the ferry this afternoon.

:25:54. > :26:00.Let's see if the weather continues like this.

:26:01. > :26:04.Not only would you have seen dolphins but also enjoyed some warm

:26:05. > :26:09.sunshine, temperatures up to 22 Celsius. This is how one of the

:26:10. > :26:15.beaches look at lunchtime. Nobody in coats, for a change. In this wedding

:26:16. > :26:21.suits enjoying the sunshine. A fine evening, staying dry, getting cool

:26:22. > :26:26.in some parts of the country, zero trouble sleeping this side of the

:26:27. > :26:33.Irish Sea. Tomorrow morning many people will see this kind of start.

:26:34. > :26:39.As it was this morning. There may also be some fog for a short time. A

:26:40. > :26:45.good chunk of the day looking nice but we are expecting some showers

:26:46. > :26:49.later on. A good part of the day is looking sonic, the best of the

:26:50. > :26:53.subject in the morning. Warming up quickly and temperatures up to

:26:54. > :27:01.around 20 Celsius. Good part of the day is looking sunny. Around the

:27:02. > :27:04.middle of the afternoon is when we are likely to see a couple of Shah

:27:05. > :27:10.was breaking out, men across the West and as the afternoon goes on

:27:11. > :27:15.more chance of them reaching western counties. That's me a couple of

:27:16. > :27:22.showers. The move westwards towards Belfast or grid will trouble the

:27:23. > :27:27.first of the concerts. Watch out for that. First thing on Friday one or

:27:28. > :27:36.two showers. Friday will also be another fine day, 19 - 20 Celsius.

:27:37. > :27:38.More and set up this weekend. Some rain, particularly Saturday night,

:27:39. > :27:39.but dry weather as well. Our late summary
