:00:13. > :00:18.Good evening, the headlines on BBC Newsline: Intoxicated and in danger

:00:19. > :00:21.- a doctor's warning over the teenagers treated

:00:22. > :00:34.They were certainly in a dangerous place and required intensive

:00:35. > :00:35.support. Facebook fails to stop a 14-year-old

:00:36. > :00:39.girl suing it over a naked photo. The moment a lorry careered out

:00:40. > :00:50.of control before crashing A couple of hours earlier and you

:00:51. > :00:53.would have been looking at bodies in the street.

:00:54. > :00:56.Afraid for her life - an MLA speaks for the first time

:00:57. > :01:08.He had my telephone number and the calls and texts started arriving

:01:09. > :01:13.with increasing regularity and I felt threatened.

:01:14. > :01:15.A second gold medal for Bethany Firth while Michael McKillop retains

:01:16. > :01:16.his title on the track. And, with more rain forecast

:01:17. > :01:19.tonight - can we expect A hospital consultant has told BBC

:01:20. > :01:28.Newsline that at least one young person could have died

:01:29. > :01:32.in Londonderry at the weekend. Children as young as 12 needed

:01:33. > :01:37.treatment for the effects of drink and drugs after going

:01:38. > :01:40.to a Club MTV event. The promoter said it had turned away

:01:41. > :01:44.what it described as too many drunk children

:01:45. > :01:47.who were without their parents For the vast majority

:01:48. > :01:55.of the 12,000 young people who attended,

:01:56. > :01:56.it certainly was a night to remember,

:01:57. > :02:00.the Club MTV concert at Ebrington But concerns have been raised

:02:01. > :02:05.by medical staff and parents about the amount of drugs

:02:06. > :02:08.and alcohol taken by teenagers and particularly among those

:02:09. > :02:24.who were under age. Shocking scenes. I got a phone call

:02:25. > :02:29.to pick my daughter up. Taking drink and drugs at 14 years of age. Young

:02:30. > :02:32.boys at 14 or 15, clearly on drugs. were treated for the effects of

:02:33. > :02:38.alcohol and drugs such as ecstasy. One teenage boy had to be put

:02:39. > :02:54.on a ventilator in intensive care. Once you become so unconscious and

:02:55. > :02:58.distressed so seizure activity, then if that individual were to have

:02:59. > :03:04.vomited at that point with his face in a spasm, you are into likely

:03:05. > :03:07.death. What we do is about prevention in that situation. We

:03:08. > :03:10.take control of the airway and control the breathing until such

:03:11. > :03:15.time as their body has metabolised they have taken. It is about they

:03:16. > :03:23.were in a dangerous place and required intensive support. Our

:03:24. > :03:27.services here cope with this day in, day out but we are already busy and

:03:28. > :03:30.the additional load of these patients coming in put pressure on

:03:31. > :03:38.the staff and all the other patients. It is an exaggeration to

:03:39. > :03:40.say that Britain could have died? Absolutely no exaggeration. If they

:03:41. > :03:41.had vomited, they would have been dead.

:03:42. > :03:46.concert declined to be interviewed but it strongly defended its

:03:47. > :03:49.It said it turned away what it described as too

:03:50. > :03:52.many drunk children who were there without parents and trying to get

:03:53. > :03:56.The promoters say its welfare area treated 65

:03:57. > :04:01.concertgoers and a dozen were sent to Altnagelvin as a precaution.

:04:02. > :04:04.The PSNI had no one available to do an interview.

:04:05. > :04:38.A consultant has made a direct appeal to parents and says if their

:04:39. > :04:42.children are going to concerts like these, there must be at least one in

:04:43. > :04:48.the group who isn't drinking or taking drugs and the has access to a

:04:49. > :04:50.mobile phone. Then they can be contacted in case of an emergency.

:04:51. > :04:54.He says it is that serious. Facebook has failed in an attempt

:04:55. > :04:57.to halt legal action against it, over a naked photograph

:04:58. > :05:01.of a 14-year-old girl from Northern Ireland,

:05:02. > :05:03.posted on several occasions. A high court Judge in Belfast has

:05:04. > :05:06.rejected attempts by the social media giant to have the case

:05:07. > :05:13.against it thrown out. The photograph of the 14-year-old

:05:14. > :05:17.girl was posted time after time over In what is believed to be

:05:18. > :05:22.the first case of its kind anywhere in the world,

:05:23. > :05:25.the girl is suing the man suspected She cannot be identified

:05:26. > :05:30.for legal reasons but But barristers for Facebook

:05:31. > :05:33.applied to have the Facebook's legal team said

:05:34. > :05:36.a European directive protected the company from having

:05:37. > :05:40.to monitor a vast amount of online material for what is

:05:41. > :05:43.posted on just one page. They stressed that

:05:44. > :05:45.the social network always took down

:05:46. > :05:48.images that breached its rules and had taken down this picture when

:05:49. > :05:55.they were told it had been posted. Mr Justice Stevens

:05:56. > :05:58.refused their bid to end proceedings and instead

:05:59. > :06:00.the case will go to a full

:06:01. > :06:07.trial at a later date. A member of the Irish Coast Guard

:06:08. > :06:11.died off County Clare this afternoon when a rescue boat overturned

:06:12. > :06:15.during a search operation. Two others in the crew based

:06:16. > :06:18.at Kilkee were rescued from the water by helicopter

:06:19. > :06:21.and taken to hospital. The crew was searching for a missing

:06:22. > :06:25.man near cliffs when their rigid inflatable boat or RIB flipped

:06:26. > :06:29.over in a heavy swell. The coastguard has confirmed that

:06:30. > :06:45.the member who died was a woman. Coming up later, we hear from the

:06:46. > :06:47.athletes from Northern Ireland who won a gold medal at the Paralympics

:06:48. > :06:50.over the weekend. CCTV pictures have been released

:06:51. > :06:54.of the moment an articulated lorry crashed into Foyleside shopping

:06:55. > :06:59.centre in Derry at the weekend. The Police today renewed

:07:00. > :07:03.their appeal for three young men seen in the area at

:07:04. > :07:19.the time to come forward. It looked like nothing would stop

:07:20. > :07:22.the lorry. It just kept going and going, gathering speed before it

:07:23. > :07:28.eventually smashed into Foyleside shopping centre. This was the

:07:29. > :07:33.result. No one was in the vehicle at the time and no one was hurt but if

:07:34. > :07:40.someone had been on the street, it could have been very story. Take

:07:41. > :07:44.another look at what happened. The lorry barely slows down when it hits

:07:45. > :07:49.a parked car. It then crashes through metal road by Lawrence one

:07:50. > :07:55.by one by one, leaving a trail of destruction. What the CCTV does not

:07:56. > :08:01.show is where the lorry's journey started, more than 100 metres away.

:08:02. > :08:05.The vehicle careered out of control down this hill, bouncing of that

:08:06. > :08:10.wall onto this wall. You can see the damage it caused. The vehicle would

:08:11. > :08:16.have weighed within ten tonnes. Just look at how quickly it was going.

:08:17. > :08:21.The lorry had been parked outside a store at the top of the hill. The

:08:22. > :08:25.brakes either failed or are deliberately left off. It all

:08:26. > :08:29.happened out for: 45 in the morning. A couple of hours earlier and you

:08:30. > :08:35.would have been looking at bodies in the street, a murder scene. In this

:08:36. > :08:38.part of the city centre, there would have been a lot of the night

:08:39. > :08:40.revellers but at this time of the morning, they're either those making

:08:41. > :08:46.their way home and those making their way to work and we are

:08:47. > :08:49.adjacent here to a taxi rank. Someone could have come around the

:08:50. > :08:54.corner at the traffic lights and they would not have stood a chance.

:08:55. > :08:59.Police are studying CCTV footage. They want to speak to three young

:09:00. > :09:04.men spotted nearby around the same time as the incident. It took only

:09:05. > :09:09.around 12 seconds for the lorry to get down the hill but it took more

:09:10. > :09:12.than 12 hours to remove it from the side of the shopping centre.

:09:13. > :09:16.A DUP MLA has spoken for the first time about how she feared

:09:17. > :09:20.for her life after being stalked by a stranger for months.

:09:21. > :09:25.Brenda Hale said her life was turned upside down by a man who began

:09:26. > :09:29.harassing her after seeing her election poster five years ago.

:09:30. > :09:32.It happened just two years after her husband was

:09:33. > :09:36.killed while serving in the army in Afghanistan.

:09:37. > :09:40.Mrs Hale brought a motion today before the Assembly on its first day

:09:41. > :09:42.back after the summer break, calling for legislation

:09:43. > :09:46.She has been speaking to our Political Correspondent Enda

:09:47. > :09:56.So what more did Brenda Hale have to say about her ordeal?

:09:57. > :10:01.Brenda Hale came to Stormont Today to highlight the fact that unlike in

:10:02. > :10:06.other parts of the UK, there is no law here to deal specifically with

:10:07. > :10:10.stalking. There is no legal definition here of stalking so there

:10:11. > :10:14.is no framework for the police and courts service to work within and

:10:15. > :10:18.that, according to her, leaves victims with very few places to

:10:19. > :10:22.turn. Today she told the story of another stalking victim, Nicky Clark

:10:23. > :10:29.but she did not go into the details of her own ordeal. She did when I

:10:30. > :10:34.chatted to her this afternoon and she told me more about what happened

:10:35. > :10:40.to her. He was phoning me regularly, text and me, saying, it couldn't let

:10:41. > :10:44.this religion ship going, and I had never met this man until one day he

:10:45. > :10:50.approached me in Marks Spencer 's. What happened that day? He came up

:10:51. > :10:54.to me after the election and I thought he was a constituent. He

:10:55. > :10:57.said he had been watching me a lot and he had got hold of my telephone

:10:58. > :11:02.number and then the calls and texts started arriving increased

:11:03. > :11:07.regularity and I felt very threatened. I did not know this man

:11:08. > :11:11.from Adam and he lived in Dublin and was stalking me from his home

:11:12. > :11:18.address in Dublin. What impact did it have on the psychologically?

:11:19. > :11:22.Incredibly frightening, I had become a very public person after the death

:11:23. > :11:26.of my husband and Afghanistan. My story was out there that I was alone

:11:27. > :11:29.with two children and to feel honourable like that, it made me

:11:30. > :11:35.question whether this job was the right one for me. I nipped it in the

:11:36. > :11:40.bad very quickly and went to police. Eddie because I was an MLA, the

:11:41. > :11:44.police were very quick to act. On a day-to-day basis, does is

:11:45. > :11:50.influencing how you do things with Mike I am very protective of my

:11:51. > :11:55.telephone number. I don't put it on any letters from work or if I use my

:11:56. > :12:00.phone number is to someone else, I always had my number so I am very

:12:01. > :12:05.aware of my personal security and also that I am home alone with my

:12:06. > :12:10.daughters and I have to keep us all safe. Five years on, Brenda Hale

:12:11. > :12:14.still feels vulnerable. She is reluctant to circulate her personal

:12:15. > :12:19.details. The justice minister said today that she is minded to look at

:12:20. > :12:23.what legislation might be needed here to ensure greater protection

:12:24. > :12:24.for victims of stalking and Brenda Hale says she is determined to see

:12:25. > :12:26.the process through. A 22-year-old man has been in court

:12:27. > :12:29.charged in connection with a one-punch attack

:12:30. > :12:31.in Londonderry at the weekend. Matthew McDermott,

:12:32. > :12:35.from Cornshell Fields in the city, has been charged with grievous

:12:36. > :12:38.bodily harm with intent Niall Grace, a player

:12:39. > :12:43.with Institute football club, is in a critical condition

:12:44. > :12:46.in hospital after the assault in Waterloo Street in the early

:12:47. > :12:50.hours of yesterday. A woman is in a stable condition

:12:51. > :12:54.after a tree fell on her car near Comber last night

:12:55. > :12:56.during high winds. The winds also caused

:12:57. > :12:59.a former factory building There's growing speculation

:13:00. > :13:09.the Republic's government could announce an inquiry

:13:10. > :13:12.into the controversial sale of Nama's Northern

:13:13. > :13:15.Ireland property loans. Nama is the Irish state agency set

:13:16. > :13:19.up take control of bad loans north and south that

:13:20. > :13:22.were damaging the banks. In 2014 it sold its entire

:13:23. > :13:27.portfolio in Northern Ireland A report to be published this week

:13:28. > :13:33.is expected to conclude there were irregularities in that

:13:34. > :13:37.deal which may have cost Irish taxpayers hundreds

:13:38. > :13:45.of millions of Euros. Nama's Northern Ireland

:13:46. > :13:48.deal was the biggest property transaction

:13:49. > :13:49.this island has ever seen but controversy

:13:50. > :13:53.has swirled around it Mainly focusing on

:13:54. > :13:58.the rule of this man, He was a senior Nama

:13:59. > :14:04.adviser who went on to work with an investment fund which was

:14:05. > :14:06.bidding in the Northern Ireland Nama gave evidence to an Irish

:14:07. > :14:10.Parliamentary committee last year and insisted that despite

:14:11. > :14:13.Mr Cushnahan's role, the sales process had

:14:14. > :14:24.integrity. I don't think you can in any way

:14:25. > :14:32.able this whole process as corrupt or anything like that. As far as you

:14:33. > :14:36.are concerned, nothing to see here? The process was run well, the

:14:37. > :14:39.committee was not problematic, move on, people, nothing to see?

:14:40. > :14:41.But the Irish spending watchdog looks set to disagree.

:14:42. > :14:43.It has been investigating and a report

:14:44. > :14:47.Leaked excerpts suggested will see the deal had irregularities and

:14:48. > :14:49.shortcomings and that those feelings could have

:14:50. > :14:50.resulted in hundreds of

:14:51. > :15:09.Meanwhile Frank Cushnahan could face questions from the police.

:15:10. > :15:16.Given the revelations on spotlight last week, shocking revelations

:15:17. > :15:18.involving people who were advising Nama at stages during that

:15:19. > :15:20.particular sale, I think it is inevitable that there would be an

:15:21. > :15:21.inquiry. Last week's Spotlight

:15:22. > :15:25.programme broadcast a recording of him taking a cash

:15:26. > :15:29.payment from a Nama client at a time Nama suspect this could amount to

:15:30. > :15:47.possible corruption and has reported the matter to both the Gardai

:15:48. > :15:50.and the National Crime Agency. Mr Cushnahan has always

:15:51. > :16:07.denied any wrongdoing. Still to come, Ulster make it two

:16:08. > :16:08.wins out of two in the Pro12 with a victory in Italy. More details

:16:09. > :16:10.shortly. The senior Irish Olympic official

:16:11. > :16:14.Pat Hickey says he intends to fight all charges against him in relation

:16:15. > :16:18.to the alleged He was charged in Rio

:16:19. > :16:23.on Friday night. Kevin Mallon who is a Dublin

:16:24. > :16:27.businessman, and eight other people also face charges including ticket

:16:28. > :16:32.touting and money laundering. Our Dublin correspondent

:16:33. > :16:43.Shane Harrison joins me The judicial system is different in

:16:44. > :16:50.Brazil, explain what the latest news means. The Brazilian system is very

:16:51. > :16:53.different but over the weekend, what happened is, a Brazilian judge

:16:54. > :16:58.decided to accept the recommendation of the prosecutor 's office that

:16:59. > :17:02.Kevin Mallon and Pat Hickey should stand trial and face serious charges

:17:03. > :17:07.including their alleged involvement in a criminal organisation, ticket

:17:08. > :17:11.touting, money-laundering and tax evasion and as you said, the judge

:17:12. > :17:16.decided there were eight other defendants but none of them is

:17:17. > :17:21.believed to be in Brazil. This whole matter boils down to Pat Hickey's

:17:22. > :17:25.arrest in his hotel last month and his temporary standing down as

:17:26. > :17:31.President of the Olympic Council of Ireland. Brazilian police are saying

:17:32. > :17:36.that tickets were handed over to a sports hospitality organisation who

:17:37. > :17:40.then sold them, even though they were not authorised to do so. Is

:17:41. > :17:45.important to stress that both Kevin Mallon and Pat deny any involvement

:17:46. > :17:50.in any wrongdoing. What happens to those two Irishmen now? The two men

:17:51. > :17:55.are still in Brazil and they are greatly restricted in what they can

:17:56. > :17:59.do. Pat Hickey is issuing a statement, denying he was under

:18:00. > :18:04.house arrest but he does have two issue a 10pm curfew every night. He

:18:05. > :18:09.is not allowed to attend the Paralympics and he has to go to

:18:10. > :18:13.court on the 20th of every month. It could well be that he has after

:18:14. > :18:17.surrendering his passport, being a position where he cannot leave

:18:18. > :18:22.Brazil legally but because his trial could take up to 18 months, it is

:18:23. > :18:26.possible that a judge may decide because of his age, he is in his

:18:27. > :18:31.70s, and his reported bad health, that he may be allowed to return to

:18:32. > :18:34.Ireland if he agrees to return for his trial but that would be a matter

:18:35. > :18:38.for a judge to decide at a later date.

:18:39. > :18:43.The Paralympic Games continue in Rio - and it was a golden weekend

:18:44. > :18:53.Yes - a double success for competitors from Northern Ireland

:18:54. > :18:58.Bethany Firth, swimming for GB, secured a second gold medal

:18:59. > :19:02.of the Games by winning the 200m freestyle final.

:19:03. > :19:05.Her performance last night followed Michael McKillop's victory

:19:06. > :19:08.for Ireland in the 1500 metres on the track - retaining the title

:19:09. > :19:21.We're used to seeing Michael McKillop win in impressive style but

:19:22. > :19:29.for the world-record holder, this Paralympic gold medal was his

:19:30. > :19:35.hardest victory to date. Not like any other race I have been in. The

:19:36. > :19:42.Algerian took it out but was not in the plan. By dad said, get to the

:19:43. > :19:47.bell and if they are still there, don't panic. Every 100 metres, pick

:19:48. > :19:56.it up. I did that for 300 metres and I got away from the Canadian. He is

:19:57. > :19:59.only 19 and it was tough to get my emotions under check because I knew

:20:00. > :20:05.how much it meant to me and my family and everyone back home

:20:06. > :20:08.because Paralympic sport is growing back home but the more that we can

:20:09. > :20:12.put gold medals on the table and show the public that we are

:20:13. > :20:16.performing at the highest level, that will move us and the movement

:20:17. > :20:26.forward. There was another record-breaking performance in the

:20:27. > :20:30.pool for Bethany Firth. The swimmer added to her 100 metres backstroke

:20:31. > :20:34.gold medal with victory in the 200 metres freestyle. A stunning

:20:35. > :20:37.performance as her family watched on at the aquatics centre and the 20

:20:38. > :20:39.old is already one of the stars of the games with two more events to

:20:40. > :20:41.come. Olympic silver medallist

:20:42. > :20:43.Richard Chambers has decided to end Chambers won his medal

:20:44. > :20:47.in the lightweight men's four He also won two world

:20:48. > :20:51.titles but missed out He's now decided to take up

:20:52. > :20:55.a coaching post with Rugby and Ulster made it

:20:56. > :21:02.back-to-back wins in the Pro12 with a 22-11 victory away

:21:03. > :21:04.to Italian side Treviso. But the team were left to rue some

:21:05. > :21:17.missed opportunities . Just for magnets gone and also got

:21:18. > :21:24.to the best possible start on Saturday, seizing the initiative

:21:25. > :21:28.with an early try. Ulster centre Luke Marshall with the score. A

:21:29. > :21:31.Formica point half-time lead was extended after the break when

:21:32. > :21:45.captain Rob Herring rumbled over the line. That is good work from Ulster.

:21:46. > :21:48.He gets the try! When Ruane Pienaar scored a third try, Ulster 's eyes

:21:49. > :21:54.were then on the bonus point but which, with a fourth but it wasn't

:21:55. > :21:58.to be. We have to take our hats off to Treviso. They kept us almost all

:21:59. > :22:04.day but in saying that, we definitely deserved another try.

:22:05. > :22:12.Drives could have gone better earlier. We accept where we possibly

:22:13. > :22:16.dropped the ball a little bit there but it is a good win for us still.

:22:17. > :22:17.Next up for Ulster it is the Scarlets at the Kingspan Stadium on

:22:18. > :22:19.Friday night. Brendan Rodgers had a memorable

:22:20. > :22:22.first Old Firm derby as the manager His team were rampant
