:00:13. > :00:17.Good evening, the headlines on BBC Newsline.

:00:18. > :00:21.A home riddled with bullets a man's critically injured

:00:22. > :00:34.Somebody must know what the background of this was. Why was this

:00:35. > :00:39.person targeted. It was orchestrated and carefully planned.

:00:40. > :00:41.We hear the views from people around the country of

:00:42. > :00:51.The only time you ever see a politician is when they are looking

:00:52. > :00:55.for something. is basking in Bafta glory

:00:56. > :01:05.for this animated film. Ulster Rugby sign a form and New

:01:06. > :01:06.Zealand international as their head coach.

:01:07. > :01:08.And if you're off this week for the school

:01:09. > :01:11.holidays, some good news - temperatures will be rising but does

:01:12. > :01:23.First this evening, that shooting near Lurgan overnight.

:01:24. > :01:26.The 31- year -old victim is in a critical condition in hospital.

:01:27. > :01:29.He was wounded in the head when shots were fired into his home

:01:30. > :01:31.at Carrigart Crescent in the early hours of this morning.

:01:32. > :01:35.The police later found a burnt out car which they believe was used

:01:36. > :01:47.The silence of the early hours was shattered when gunfire rang out here

:01:48. > :01:52.early last night. At least 20 bullets were fired from an automatic

:01:53. > :01:56.weapon, one struck a man inside in the head. He was alone in the house,

:01:57. > :02:01.but neighbours say his girlfriend of a child are usually there. In their

:02:02. > :02:07.absence this home became a crime scene. The attack took place just

:02:08. > :02:10.before quarter to two this morning. Seconds afterwards, neighbours went

:02:11. > :02:13.to see they could help the victim. I've spoken to a neighbour who

:02:14. > :02:17.didn't want to appear on camera, but he told me he was watching

:02:18. > :02:35.television when he heard gunfire and a car speeding away.

:02:36. > :02:40.He ran to the house, where he found a man lying on the floor calling for

:02:41. > :02:42.help. The man who was understood to have lived here for around two years

:02:43. > :02:45.was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. Police say, as

:02:46. > :02:48.yet, there was no known motive. We are genuinely unclear on the motive.

:02:49. > :02:50.That is one of the things I am appealing for today. Somebody must

:02:51. > :02:52.know why this person was targeted, it was orchestrated and carefully

:02:53. > :02:54.planned attack. Is there anything happening in that area, you know

:02:55. > :02:58.anything about the individual that was targeted. We need your help in

:02:59. > :03:03.solving this, today. Police believe the shots were fired from this car,

:03:04. > :03:09.then out a little over a mile away from the scene. It was stolen in

:03:10. > :03:12.Dublin in September at Folsom the plates. Police want anyone with

:03:13. > :03:15.information about the car to come forward. --- had false number

:03:16. > :03:17.traits. The Ulster Unionist leader,

:03:18. > :03:18.Mike Nesbitt has been feeling the heat today

:03:19. > :03:20.after declaring his intention to vote for the SDLP ahead

:03:21. > :03:22.of pro-union candidates The move prompted some

:03:23. > :03:30.Ulster Unionists to distance themselves from their leader,

:03:31. > :03:33.insisting they will be putting But Mr Nesbitt said

:03:34. > :03:39.candidates were free to make their own calls

:03:40. > :03:54.as Our Political Correspondent Enda This was the moment when and

:03:55. > :03:58.uncomfortable Mike Nesbitt laid his cards on the table. I will be

:03:59. > :04:05.standing square behind that notion, I will be transferring to the SDLP.

:04:06. > :04:10.So, in your constituency you will vote all to Unionists and then SDLP

:04:11. > :04:14.next? Yes. As for his would-be political partner, he was less

:04:15. > :04:20.willing to show his hand. I will be voting for myself, number one, and I

:04:21. > :04:26.haven't decided what I will do after number two. You are posting yourself

:04:27. > :04:31.as an alternative government, but you can't save you will support an

:04:32. > :04:38.ultra-Uni 's candidate, next. I will absolutely. What is this about?

:04:39. > :04:43.Because it has a higher value if you transfer high up? But, I'm pretty

:04:44. > :04:48.sure we'll get to STA help the candidate elected. But, Mike

:04:49. > :04:56.Nesbitt's plant didn't sit easily with some of his colleagues.

:04:57. > :05:03.They made it clear they would ask that they do is to opt first for

:05:04. > :05:10.pro-Unionist candidates. Fellow unionist have also questioned his

:05:11. > :05:20.logic. And the other was unveiled to honour the Polish for dead. ---

:05:21. > :05:24.Polish war dead. It is strange that a Unionist would rather have

:05:25. > :05:33.nationalists were tanned and other Unionists. But, that is a matter by

:05:34. > :05:37.him. Backing the SDLP here is not a big political gamble. Might it

:05:38. > :05:41.signal a new direction for the Ulster Unionist Party us he has a

:05:42. > :05:47.track record with these things, he has encouraged people to vote Tories

:05:48. > :05:56.in the past. Devoured two years he's all over the place. --- the reality

:05:57. > :06:02.is he's all over the place. It'll be interesting to see what is position

:06:03. > :06:06.is particularly on implementing the Good Friday Agreement. No number to

:06:07. > :06:11.any of these candidates by Mike Nesbitt, but them man who can count

:06:12. > :06:17.on his support is nowhere to be seen on the lamp posts in east Belfast.

:06:18. > :06:21.It is a bold move and one that Mike Nesbitt is likely to be quizzed

:06:22. > :06:23.about from the party faithful when they meet tomorrow to launch their

:06:24. > :06:24.manifesto. The police found more than 2

:06:25. > :06:26.kilograms of cocaine, bundles of cash and a loaded handgun

:06:27. > :06:29.when they searched a house David Agnew, with an address

:06:30. > :06:36.at Carby Heights in Keady, has appeared before

:06:37. > :06:51.Newry Magistrates Court When the police arrived at the house

:06:52. > :06:56.on Friday, they found at home and asked them if there was anything

:06:57. > :07:00.they needed to be aware of before beginning the search. The court

:07:01. > :07:04.heard that he indicated there was, but when pressed further he told

:07:05. > :07:11.them he would just --- they would just have to find it. In the search

:07:12. > :07:16.they discovered many euros in the butt stall in the living room. In

:07:17. > :07:27.the bedroom they found Stelling wrapped bundles of ?1000. --- in the

:07:28. > :07:32.butt stall. In the roof they found cocaine and a handgun with a loaded

:07:33. > :07:36.magazine and a silencer. A second silence was found in the house. As

:07:37. > :07:41.well as a plastic food container which had a white substance that

:07:42. > :07:43.again tested positive as cocaine. The detective constable told the

:07:44. > :07:50.court that of the weekend during three interviews he consistently

:07:51. > :07:58.refused to make any comment. He did not apply the bail and was remanded

:07:59. > :08:00.in custody, appearing in by video link, next month.

:08:01. > :08:05.Still to come on BBC Newsline before seven...

:08:06. > :08:08.Getting in the zone, we meet the children learning a new way to focus

:08:09. > :08:12.in the classroom. A row over a smear campaign

:08:13. > :08:14.against a whistle-blower in the Garda Siochana is threatening

:08:15. > :08:19.the coalition government in Dublin. Sinn Fein is set to table a no

:08:20. > :08:26.confidence vote in the government. Our Dublin correspondent

:08:27. > :08:28.Shane Harrison is with us. Is is a new development in a long

:08:29. > :08:46.running whistleblower story - Well, as a whistle-blower, Maurice

:08:47. > :08:55.McCabe claimed, correctly, that some well-connected people were getting

:08:56. > :09:00.their driving lion... This angered senior members of the force.

:09:01. > :09:04.Whistle-blowers were described as disgusting. What has now emerged is

:09:05. > :09:08.that the daughters of one of those officers disciplined because of

:09:09. > :09:14.Sergeant McCain has claimed that she was abused as a child by him. It has

:09:15. > :09:18.to be says there is no evidence to support that claim. What is now

:09:19. > :09:30.going to happen is a commission of investigation will enquire in

:09:31. > :09:36.private as to whether the current... The commission will also investigate

:09:37. > :09:40.how a file and that whistle-blower came to be created once an employee

:09:41. > :09:46.of the child protection agency copied and pasted a file against

:09:47. > :09:50.somebody else, a claim of child sexual abuse against somebody else

:09:51. > :09:55.into his file. Sergeant McCabe and his family this evening had issued a

:09:56. > :10:03.statement saying they are opposed to any further enquiry held in private.

:10:04. > :10:06.Sinn Fein are to table a motion of no confidence in the government.

:10:07. > :10:09.So, how will all this play-out politically

:10:10. > :10:19.The man of the government, including independent in Cabinet and is

:10:20. > :10:25.dependent on the support... Relationships between the two

:10:26. > :10:29.parties and very good at the moment. The Justice minister, was told on

:10:30. > :10:35.Wednesday about the angle to the story. She said she first learned

:10:36. > :10:39.about on Thursday night when she saw a television programme. Another

:10:40. > :10:42.minister that the opposition has targeted is the children's minister

:10:43. > :10:47.who met Sergeant McCabe in private but didn't tell her Cabinet

:10:48. > :10:51.colleagues about the child sex abuse allegation against him. It is

:10:52. > :10:55.against this background that Sinn Fein is tabling a motion of

:10:56. > :10:59.no-confidence in the government. This government has lost its

:11:00. > :11:04.authority to govern. There is no doubt that they have to go and that

:11:05. > :11:12.is why we have tabled this motion. Are astonished to see the position

:11:13. > :11:17.and antics, it seems they are prepared to play games with this

:11:18. > :11:20.most series of issues. As things stand it seems been a ball will

:11:21. > :11:27.abstain in the road and the government will survive. This all

:11:28. > :11:39.shows how fragile this minority government is and it may well hasten

:11:40. > :11:40.the end. Given that he said he would lead the party into the next general

:11:41. > :11:42.election. There are two full weeks

:11:43. > :11:44.of political campaigning left in the Assembly election

:11:45. > :11:46.and our reporters have been travelling around Northern Ireland

:11:47. > :11:48.to hear some of the views For this evening's programme BBC

:11:49. > :12:06.Newsline's Tara Mills has been The stunning scenery above the

:12:07. > :12:11.Fermanagh Lakes. This border county buyers many scars of the troubles.

:12:12. > :12:23.How do businesses in the town feel about the election? Nice to see you.

:12:24. > :12:26.I started at this July 's. It needs to work from a business point of

:12:27. > :12:33.view. We are a small town here but we have a lot of active businesses

:12:34. > :12:40.and public realm scheme will stop after about 15 years of asking, the

:12:41. > :12:45.5 million spend has been approved. We are all very anxious about that

:12:46. > :12:49.to make sure that that gets pushed through. Of the loaded this bar,

:12:50. > :12:55.customers enjoy football rugby and GE A. The owners believed when it

:12:56. > :13:00.comes to the ballot box people bowed along traditional lines. In my

:13:01. > :13:04.opinion, that is part of the problem we have in Northern Ireland, that

:13:05. > :13:09.people look beyond the issues that we have and they vote on who they

:13:10. > :13:14.think they should vote for, rather than the issues that we see

:13:15. > :13:20.day-to-day. Given the location some businesses seem more concerned about

:13:21. > :13:28.Brexit. It is a question I put a funeral director? They both go

:13:29. > :13:38.hand-in-hand. Will you voted EU feel and apathy? --- will you boat or do

:13:39. > :13:45.you feel. I feel we have a duty of care to vote for what we believe in.

:13:46. > :13:50.We knocked on doors here, but not anyone was keen. I haven't time,

:13:51. > :13:55.pet, I haven't time. But some were more than happy to have this A.

:13:56. > :14:06.Hello there, can I told you the election? Do you feel far away from

:14:07. > :14:08.Stormont living here? They promise this, and at the end of the day good

:14:09. > :14:20.look to them. With the NHS it is not on. That

:14:21. > :14:25.should be first priority. It is a big concern? Yes. We have a lovely

:14:26. > :14:32.hospital but you still have to go to Derry. Over the next few weeks what

:14:33. > :14:36.would convince you to go out and exercise your boat? The anything

:14:37. > :14:42.about it, if they promised they would do something, do it. ---

:14:43. > :14:49.exercise your vote. Not, once they get in forget about it. It is as

:14:50. > :14:54.simple as that. I going to bode? No. The only time you see a politician

:14:55. > :15:00.is when looking for something. --- are leading to vote? There is no

:15:01. > :15:11.politician I can convince you of rise? No. Are they definitely never

:15:12. > :15:14.vote, ever. He is unlikely to change his mind, but politicians still have

:15:15. > :15:17.a few weeks to convince those who are undecided.

:15:18. > :15:20.Mindfulness is an increasingly popular practice used by many people

:15:21. > :15:23.In an initiative by an anti-depression charity,

:15:24. > :15:26.mindfulness has also been introduced in some schools as a way

:15:27. > :15:29.Our Education Correspondent Robbie Meredith has been to a class

:15:30. > :15:37.in a County Down primary school to see what's involved.

:15:38. > :15:48.The sound of silence at this school. These primary sevens are learning

:15:49. > :15:51.more and boldness, form of meditation involving breathing

:15:52. > :15:56.exercises and focusing on the moment. --- they are learning

:15:57. > :16:01.mindfulness. I take it beat breath in and out and don't think about

:16:02. > :16:05.anything else. I learnt how to calm down when I'm stressed and to make

:16:06. > :16:12.sure that I don't go and get into attack Jim. And get angry. Even a

:16:13. > :16:20.teacher who was initially sceptical has been won over. When I sit and do

:16:21. > :16:24.different activities with the children, I was learning how

:16:25. > :16:28.stressed I can be at times. And I was distressing myself. Pupils here

:16:29. > :16:34.have been taking mindfulness classes since the autumn. They also help

:16:35. > :16:41.with promotional resilience. What they help every child in every

:16:42. > :16:44.school? Absolutely. We believe it would benefit children across

:16:45. > :16:50.Northern Ireland to reduce stress, to cope with things in life and we

:16:51. > :16:55.do all know that younger and younger children these days of stress,

:16:56. > :16:59.anxiety and depression. There is an effect beyond the classroom, as

:17:00. > :17:06.well. If I am angry at brothers I do in my room and then... When you are

:17:07. > :17:15.pushing your hair, take your time and don't go so fast. Schools

:17:16. > :17:22.already teach the three Rs and now there is a fourth, relaxation.

:17:23. > :17:25.It's been an incredible twenty four hours for a teenage actor

:17:26. > :17:29.Art Parkinson stars in the film Kubo and the Two Strings which picked up

:17:30. > :17:36.But before that as Keiron Tourish reports, he has a big challenge

:17:37. > :17:40.first thing tomorrow morning back home.

:17:41. > :17:47.It is the biggest night of the year when the stars come out to celebrate

:17:48. > :17:52.all that is best in British and international film. 115-year-old,

:17:53. > :18:02.Donegal actor, Art Parkinson clearly made his part. The film that he

:18:03. > :18:05.provided boys for one best in animation. Kubo and the Two Strings

:18:06. > :18:10.is also going for an Oscar later this month. Whenever you are up

:18:11. > :18:19.against the Disney films and you are the only one in your category that

:18:20. > :18:30.is somewhat independent, then the likes of findings all the ---

:18:31. > :18:36.Finding Dory. Back home in Donnie Gorby excitement at his success at

:18:37. > :18:40.the Baftas was being celebrated by his big brother and classmates. ---

:18:41. > :18:45.back home in County Donegal. We're very proud of him, I sent a text

:18:46. > :18:50.last night to say we're proud of him and he's done well for oneself. He

:18:51. > :18:54.is overwhelmed. Everyone was excited in school this morning everyone was

:18:55. > :19:05.chatting about the Baftas. We are so of him and to be the lead role in a

:19:06. > :19:12.film that is one bad is fantastic. Matthew McConaghy also stars in Kubo

:19:13. > :19:17.and the Two Strings. But, there is the small matter of Art Parkinson's

:19:18. > :19:22.mock exams before the Oscars which starts tomorrow. No doubt, he will

:19:23. > :19:26.have all his lines learnt off by half tomorrow. --- off by heart

:19:27. > :19:29.tomorrow. Sport is next with Stephen Watson

:19:30. > :19:31.beginning with changes Ulster have confirmed that

:19:32. > :19:38.New Zealander Jono Gibbes is to be the team's head coach starting

:19:39. > :19:40.from next season. He's signed a two-year deal

:19:41. > :19:42.and will replace Neil Doak A former All-Black

:19:43. > :19:49.international as a player, Gibbes is currently the forwards

:19:50. > :19:51.coach at the French side Clermont. Before that, he had a similar role

:19:52. > :19:54.in the Leinster coaching setup for six years,

:19:55. > :19:57.in a period that saw the province Ireland got their Six Nations

:19:58. > :20:01.challenge back on track with a thumping nine-try 63-10

:20:02. > :20:07.demolition of Italy on Saturday. They also made history

:20:08. > :20:13.with the first ever try scoring bonus point win in the competition,

:20:14. > :20:15.that elevated Joe Schidmt's side Our reporter, Nial Foster

:20:16. > :20:27.was in Rome for the game. After the disappointment of their

:20:28. > :20:32.defeat to Scotland, Ireland knew they had to get points to the board

:20:33. > :20:38.early against Italy. The Irish were clinical from start to finish. Wave

:20:39. > :20:47.after wave of attack was awarded and helped their score tally grow. The

:20:48. > :20:52.midfield rattled the Italians. Hat-trick was topped off with the

:20:53. > :21:05.man of the match award for the Munster man. And the placement,...

:21:06. > :21:12.Should Gilroy will have a hat-trick. His Ulster team-mate, Paddy Jackson

:21:13. > :21:18.was in sublime form to converting all nine tries from the team. It was

:21:19. > :21:23.unbelievable, as always. I have always been a massive fan of Paddy

:21:24. > :21:26.any kicked unbelievably well. Those kicks all important body has to

:21:27. > :21:30.control the team as well, you have to understand. --- those kicks are

:21:31. > :21:46.important but you has to do... The Ireland women's rugby team

:21:51. > :21:53.out of two with victory Hannah Tyrrell scored this superb

:21:54. > :21:58.solo try in stoppage-time to give Ireland a crucial winning bonus

:21:59. > :22:02.point in a final score of 27-3 . Next, Ireland will host France

:22:03. > :22:05.at Donnybrook in a fortnight. The fairytale season continues

:22:06. > :22:12.for Slaughtneil GAA club. After their camogie team made it

:22:13. > :22:15.through to the All Ireland final earlier this month -

:22:16. > :22:17.at the weekend their Gaelic footballers made it

:22:18. > :22:19.into their decider. Now its up to the hurlers

:22:20. > :22:41.to complete the All Ireland trilogy Six S breeds success and in this

:22:42. > :22:47.case winning has become a bit of a habit. --- success breeds success.

:22:48. > :22:56.This small club has been the MP of every other club. An inspired

:22:57. > :23:02.performance, not just marking this player out of the game but

:23:03. > :23:11.contributing ballpoint of his own. ---4 points of his own. You don't

:23:12. > :23:18.think about it, you just do, plenty of days it doesn't work out but

:23:19. > :23:23.today it did. I am happy enough. Now the pensioners over. We will use

:23:24. > :23:27.this as a stepping stone. We will all do the best we can be. We all

:23:28. > :23:32.know the level we have to be at. We have another day out and there was

:23:33. > :23:42.something positive to look forward to. The football decider, but before

:24:20. > :24:21.The IFA announced today that Northern Ireland will play

:24:22. > :24:26.a friendly international against New Zealand at the National
