:00:00. > :00:00.Now, on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are.

:00:07. > :00:10.A rescue deal has been agreed to save Northern Ireland's only

:00:11. > :00:13.direct daily flight service between Belfast and New York.

:00:14. > :00:15.The BBC can reveal that financial assistance,

:00:16. > :00:19.believed to be in the region of ?9 million over three years,

:00:20. > :00:24.is to be provided to prevent US airline United from axing the route.

:00:25. > :00:31.Here's our business correspondent Julian O'Neill.

:00:32. > :00:39.The New York route is highly prized. The US is the local economy's

:00:40. > :00:44.biggest inward investor and the very real prospect of losing United has

:00:45. > :00:50.ever required emergency action. And as package worth millions of pounds

:00:51. > :00:57.has been put together quickly after United a marked Belfast as one of

:00:58. > :01:01.its permanent UK departures. Company macro were looking at the potential

:01:02. > :01:09.of pulling roots. Essentially, that was it. We had nearly lost it. It

:01:10. > :01:14.was a huge Northern Ireland team ever to get it back.

:01:15. > :01:19.Northern Ireland have believed its jets could be more profitable on a

:01:20. > :01:24.more does on an internal route. But the sisters has come worth ?9

:01:25. > :01:30.million, mostly coming from the Executive. I look to the issue and

:01:31. > :01:33.the portions of it. I made a recommendation to the Executive and

:01:34. > :01:40.I'm very pleased that the First Minister has signed off and on this.

:01:41. > :01:46.It allows us to keep this very important route in place. This is

:01:47. > :01:51.not the first time there has been political intervention in order to

:01:52. > :02:01.secure the New York route. When United's commitment wavered a while

:02:02. > :02:07.back, these negative responded by abolishing tax on flights, which

:02:08. > :02:19.cost it millions a year. But again, Northern Ireland's -- United's

:02:20. > :02:22.struggles have been highlighted but it is the only one we have and

:02:23. > :02:25.keeping it is important. There's been a homecoming

:02:26. > :02:27.celebration in Belfast for the boxer Carl Frampton following his latest

:02:28. > :02:29.world title victory. He became the WBA Featherweight

:02:30. > :02:31.champion in New York last week, two years after securing a world

:02:32. > :02:33.super-bantamweight crown. They turned out in their thousands

:02:34. > :02:37.at Belfast City Hall to welcome And one who knows he has

:02:38. > :02:43.really hit the big time. But for Carl Frampton,

:02:44. > :02:55.this homecoming was special. I have read on social media and a

:02:56. > :02:59.buzz on it, but I haven't done a lot since I came home. I have tried to

:03:00. > :03:03.do my head down. This is the first time I have come out amongst the

:03:04. > :03:05.people and seen the support. It is fantastic.

:03:06. > :03:10.For the fans who turned out, it was worth the wait.

:03:11. > :03:16.He is a way Belfast man, super-duper, and why not. What is it

:03:17. > :03:18.about him? He's gorgeous. This brought back memories

:03:19. > :03:20.of more than 30 years ago for Carl's manager,

:03:21. > :03:30.Barry McGuigan. It only what he deserves, years a

:03:31. > :03:34.great kid and he has put his life into boxing. When you make the

:03:35. > :03:39.effort that he made, you deserve the rewards when they come. We are proud

:03:40. > :03:42.of Carl Frampton! Thank you very much. Thanks, everyone.

:03:43. > :03:44.There are no answers yet on the next fight.

:03:45. > :03:48.But it looks like any Belfast date will certainly pull the crowds.

:03:49. > :03:50.Ireland made Olympic history today after winning a medal in the rowing

:03:51. > :03:54.Brothers Paul and Gary O'Donovan from Cork won silver

:03:55. > :03:57.in the lightweight double sculls in Rio.

:03:58. > :04:00.But unfortunately, it's been a disappointing day for one

:04:01. > :04:03.of Northern Ireland's medallists from 2012, as Stephen

:04:04. > :04:17.Heartbreak for Alan Campbell. The only athlete from Northern Ireland

:04:18. > :04:22.to ever compete at four Olympics. The Coleraine rower dreams of

:04:23. > :04:29.signing off on a high. But despite a valiant effort, he could only manage

:04:30. > :04:37.falls. Not the way he wanted it it to finish. -- he could only manage

:04:38. > :04:41.fourth. I can hold my head high without a doubt. The fairy tale

:04:42. > :04:46.ending is not to be this time but I didn't come here to make up the

:04:47. > :04:50.places, I came here to do a job. Unfortunately, that wasn't to be.

:04:51. > :04:55.And I did everything within my power to make it happen. Huge

:04:56. > :05:00.disappointment for Alan Campbell... There have been a lot of sacrifices

:05:01. > :05:05.as well. Not just on my behalf, in a lot of people have helped me along

:05:06. > :05:14.the way. Bobby Platz was one of my very first coaches. Just incredible.

:05:15. > :05:23.Yeah, I mean, it's really tough but... But I have to say, I have

:05:24. > :05:28.been so lucky and I'm really thankful to those people, my

:05:29. > :05:32.parents, my wife... You know, I put it all out there. I did was I the

:05:33. > :05:38.possibly do in the circumstances, I am very proud. As Alan Campbell said

:05:39. > :05:48.goodbye, two brothers were entering rowing big-time. The Donovan

:05:49. > :06:04.brothers one Ireland's first medal. We did as best we could and all over

:06:05. > :06:07.the lane at the end, but... So, celebrations for team Ireland. Their

:06:08. > :06:16.The Great Britain hockey team has historic day.

:06:17. > :06:26.versus Spain at the Olympics in Rio and must now depend on other results

:06:27. > :06:30.GB, who include four players from Northern Ireland, will now

:06:31. > :06:32.watch the New Zealand-Belgium match with fingers crossed.

:06:33. > :06:34.The Ireland hockey team play Argentina in an hour's time

:06:35. > :06:36.and a win will see them through to the quarterfinals.

:06:37. > :06:45.Now on to the weekend weather forecast with Angie Phillips.

:06:46. > :06:52.Once the rain moves away, the winds will ease down. Still breezy in

:06:53. > :06:58.places. A scattering of showers from the West. But not too chilly.

:06:59. > :07:03.Tomorrow, we are looking at more dry weather. Generally, a good deal of

:07:04. > :07:06.cloud and a few showers running through on the westerly breeze,

:07:07. > :07:10.especially in the morning. Across much of Britain and Ireland, we are

:07:11. > :07:16.looking at variable amounts of cloud. There will be showers around,

:07:17. > :07:19.especially for western areas. Most frequent for parts of Scotland. The

:07:20. > :07:25.best of the sunshine in the eastern fringes and the South, where it will

:07:26. > :07:31.feel quite warm. Further than that fashion than that in the north and

:07:32. > :07:35.west. Temperatures down on today but a dry afternoon and the cloud may

:07:36. > :07:39.even sent out to give a few bright intervals. On Sunday, a fair amount

:07:40. > :07:41.of cloud but some sunshine coming through and warming up into the

:07:42. > :07:42.start of next week. Our next BBC Newsline
