:00:10. > :00:14.Good evening. There has been condemnation of a pipe bomb attack

:00:15. > :00:18.on a police patrol in Londonderry last night. The device did not

:00:19. > :00:22.explode, nobody was injured. The attack was close to a controversial

:00:23. > :00:30.bonfire in the bogside. Teresa Craig has this report.

:00:31. > :00:35.Hundreds cheered watching on as the bonfire standing over a 20 foot high

:00:36. > :00:39.is lit. It has been a controversial issue in recent weeks, with some

:00:40. > :00:45.residents fearing it would spark anti-social behaviour. Crowds watch

:00:46. > :00:50.on and the mood seems celebratory, at odds with the security alert the

:00:51. > :00:56.PSNI say began last week after a pipe bomb was thrown at a police

:00:57. > :01:03.patrol. This morning, this is the scene. Small rises and debris

:01:04. > :01:09.littered the street. Wood and glass lay strewn across the road. This

:01:10. > :01:13.bonfire still burns, much like the issues that surround it. It is

:01:14. > :01:18.something that deeply divides this community and there is some anger in

:01:19. > :01:23.the area. People feel threatened and vulnerable. There is a lot of anger

:01:24. > :01:27.there, yes. People are saying it is a disgrace, you know, the way the

:01:28. > :01:31.committee has then left. Has been widespread condemnation of the

:01:32. > :01:35.attack on the police, which happened near by, and against the burning of

:01:36. > :01:39.union flags and Sinn Fein election posters. Some political

:01:40. > :01:48.representatives are blaming dissident republicans for a leading

:01:49. > :01:51.young people astray. Without a shadow a doubt. The dogs off the

:01:52. > :01:53.street are aware of the connected trade between some anti-community,

:01:54. > :01:58.anti-social behaviour like this and those kind of organisations. Sinn

:01:59. > :02:01.Fein posters were on this bonfire. Is that perhaps an indication that

:02:02. > :02:06.you have lost touch with people here? Not at all. It is not the

:02:07. > :02:10.first time a Sinn Fein poster was on a bonfire. If that is incitement to

:02:11. > :02:12.hatred then we need to do with it is not the first time a Sinn Fein

:02:13. > :02:15.poster was on a bonfire. If that is incitement to hatred then we need to

:02:16. > :02:24.deal with that in that context. One local councillor says that younger

:02:25. > :02:30.people... In the area have been forgotten about. By Nationalist and

:02:31. > :02:35.Republican politicians. This is not only a mistrust of the police, this

:02:36. > :02:38.is a massive mistrust of political representatives and community

:02:39. > :02:42.representatives. There is a massive disconnect from the people this area

:02:43. > :02:46.to what they would see as the establishment. A clean-up operation

:02:47. > :02:54.is now underway. It will finish no doubt long before this debate has

:02:55. > :02:57.ended. The Police Federation which

:02:58. > :03:01.represents officers has called for an inquiry into the police

:03:02. > :03:04.ombudsman's office. The call follows the revelation that a gun and

:03:05. > :03:08.ammunition seized nine years ago were discovered in the office of one

:03:09. > :03:12.of its investigators. The items should have been returned to an

:03:13. > :03:16.evidence store but were found in a filing cabinet in June. The

:03:17. > :03:23.investigator concerned resigned days after an internal inquiry began. He

:03:24. > :03:25.said he had been planning to retire for some time. The Police Federation

:03:26. > :03:31.says the discovery shows the ombudsman's office needs scrutiny.

:03:32. > :03:36.At the Olympics, T Marilyn's last hope for a medal in boxing ended in

:03:37. > :03:39.controversy. Belfast's Michael Conlan, tipped for gold, was beaten

:03:40. > :03:48.in the quarterfinals. Stephen Watson reports from Rio.

:03:49. > :03:52.It was a result unpopular with most people who watched the fight in the

:03:53. > :03:59.arena. Michael Conlan's Olympic dream lay in tatters. He lost the

:04:00. > :04:06.bruising on round contest against his Russian opponent on a unanimous

:04:07. > :04:10.decision. And then the Belfast man vented his frustration at the judges

:04:11. > :04:13.afterwards. They have stolen my Olympic dream and robbed me of

:04:14. > :04:18.something I have cleaned off all my life. You know, I have always said I

:04:19. > :04:22.was going to be Olympic champion. Today I feel it has been robbed of

:04:23. > :04:27.me so I am distraught. I may not be crying but inside I am. Michael's

:04:28. > :04:33.father is also his coat and the decision left him very angry. I

:04:34. > :04:36.thought we won that fight clearly. First round we destroyed the guy.

:04:37. > :04:41.Middle to long distance of the plan. I don't know what the judges are

:04:42. > :04:47.looking at, what can fight are looking at. I can't even speak.

:04:48. > :04:52.Stinking. He will never box amateur again if I have anything to do that.

:04:53. > :04:58.Why should you? Form team Ireland, eight boxers qualified for the

:04:59. > :05:01.Olympics all go home empty-handed. Elsewhere at the games there was

:05:02. > :05:12.better news for the ceiling. A second medal. It was Ireland's first

:05:13. > :05:18.sailing medal in 36 years. And the duo of Ryan Seaton and Michael Govan

:05:19. > :05:22.are still in contention for a medal in the 49er class. They can be

:05:23. > :05:25.together on Thursday. Well, we had some lovely one plunging today but

:05:26. > :05:29.the weather is about to change with the forecast details for the next

:05:30. > :05:35.few days. Hello, good evening. After a fine,

:05:36. > :05:46.summary couple of days, things are about to...

:05:47. > :05:51.Around 12 or so. A different day coming up tomorrow. A weather front

:05:52. > :05:54.moving and that is going to be bringing spells of rain with that.

:05:55. > :05:57.Initially, it is a dry start for many. Even some progress towards the

:05:58. > :06:02.east, but the cloud will soon be filling in. That wrinkling and

:06:03. > :06:05.towards the West. That persistence and body of rain moves across the

:06:06. > :06:08.Republic of Ireland. Locally heavy bursts, some thunder mixed in as

:06:09. > :06:10.well. And we will see some of that rain edging towards the West of

:06:11. > :06:14.Scotland, western parts of Wales, and on towards the south-west of

:06:15. > :06:18.inward. But to the east of that, it is still fine and summary. Plenty of

:06:19. > :06:21.sunshine and we will see temperatures into the mid-20s

:06:22. > :06:26.towards the South east. For Northern Ireland, where it is more

:06:27. > :06:33.disappointing end to the it. Wait, still from Dundry bursts.
