:00:43. > :00:52.A Royal Marine from Larne Ciaran Maxwell is being questioned

:00:53. > :00:54.about two weapons finds linked to dissident republicans discovered

:00:55. > :00:57.Searches are to continue at locations in the south

:00:58. > :01:00.west of England where he was arrested yesterday.

:01:01. > :01:07.The search operation in southern England gathered pace today as more

:01:08. > :01:11.officers at the Devon and Cornwall police force were drafted in to help

:01:12. > :01:19.The search is focusing on a house near the city of Exeter in Devon,

:01:20. > :01:21.where Ciaran Maxwell is believed to have stayed.

:01:22. > :01:29.Officers are also checking an area of nearby woodland.

:01:30. > :01:32.Yesterday, in Ciaran Maxwell's hometown of Larne, two

:01:33. > :01:33.houses were searched in connection with this enquiry.

:01:34. > :01:35.It is understood that laptops and mobile phones

:01:36. > :01:40.This morning, we returned to the scene of yesterday's

:01:41. > :01:43.I knocked on the door of one of the properties that

:01:44. > :01:49.I spoke to a woman inside and asked her if she had any comment to make

:01:50. > :02:01.She told me, they didn't know what was happening.

:02:02. > :02:04.She said Ciaran has been arrested in England and we are here in Larne.

:02:05. > :02:08.The Royal Marine was arrested yesterday in connection

:02:09. > :02:10.with an anti-terrorist enquiry involving London's Metropolitan

:02:11. > :02:15.It is understood intelligence officers from MI5

:02:16. > :02:24.It is understood to be linked to the discovery of two terrorist

:02:25. > :02:31.arms loads near Larne earlier this year.

:02:32. > :02:33.The hides were found to contain bombing and gun implements

:02:34. > :02:42.It was suspected the weapons were linked to dissident republican

:02:43. > :02:44.paramilitaries. He has also posted pictures

:02:45. > :02:46.on Facebook of military exercises he has been involved

:02:47. > :02:49.with as a Marine. Yesterday wasn't the first

:02:50. > :02:51.time that Ciaran Maxwell 14 years ago, a teenage

:02:52. > :03:00.Ciaran Maxwell made the news when he was attacked

:03:01. > :03:13.here in Larne. At the time his attack was reported

:03:14. > :03:14.as a sectarian attack by a gang of loyalists armed with golf clubs and

:03:15. > :03:15.iron bars. Police have searched the marine's

:03:16. > :03:17.locker at his military base in Somerset as part

:03:18. > :03:27.of the ongoing investigation. It will be a detailed search, it is

:03:28. > :03:32.important we understand what may be present at the address and that the

:03:33. > :03:33.new plantation. The searches are being led by the Metropolitan Police

:03:34. > :03:36.counterterrorism command. Devon police say the search

:03:37. > :03:37.operations will continue through the weekend as more

:03:38. > :03:40.officers arrived to help Two officials from the Olympic

:03:41. > :03:43.council of Ireland, Kevin Kilty and Stephen Martin,

:03:44. > :03:45.who is from Bangor, are being questioned

:03:46. > :03:47.by detectives in Brazil. It's understood they are being

:03:48. > :03:50.interviewed in relation to an investigation into the alleged

:03:51. > :04:04.mis-selling of Olympic tickets. The arrested official Pat Hickey 's

:04:05. > :04:10.legal team has also made a second application for bail.

:04:11. > :04:16.I asked about the latest developments. Around 2pm in the

:04:17. > :04:19.afternoon in Rio Stephen Martin and Kevin Kilty were due to meet with

:04:20. > :04:23.police in Rio and give statements about what they knew in relation to

:04:24. > :04:27.the sale of tickets. They arrived early and they were wearing Irish

:04:28. > :04:30.Olympic track suits as they arrived at the police station and they said

:04:31. > :04:35.they were there merely to cooperate and assist in any way they could

:04:36. > :04:37.with the police. The police have confiscated their passports and they

:04:38. > :04:41.did that saying there was no accusation of any wrongdoing by

:04:42. > :04:51.either man but they simply want to speak to them before they return to

:04:52. > :04:53.Ireland at the end of the games. Those statements and discussions

:04:54. > :04:55.with the police have lasted some hours and it remains unclear exactly

:04:56. > :04:58.what the police have decided but earlier this week in a similar case

:04:59. > :05:01.a member of the Olympic Council spoke to the police for many hours

:05:02. > :05:04.and that the police said they had no interest in him and his passport

:05:05. > :05:07.would be returned and he would be allowed to leave Brazil in due

:05:08. > :05:13.course. What more can you tell us about the

:05:14. > :05:17.bail application by Pat Hickey? This is the second time they have

:05:18. > :05:21.sought to get bail for Pat Hickey who was in prison in a maximum

:05:22. > :05:24.security prison at the moment and he has been there since he was arrested

:05:25. > :05:28.last week. His lawyers are seeking to have the bail application

:05:29. > :05:31.expedited because it can take up to 20 days for a bail hearing to take

:05:32. > :05:36.place here in Rio where the wheels of justice moves slower than at home

:05:37. > :05:40.and they are seeking an injunction for this to be heard sooner they say

:05:41. > :05:44.their client is elderly and he suffers from hyped into --

:05:45. > :05:48.hypertension and has a heart condition and they are offering to

:05:49. > :05:53.place him under house arrest here in Brazil if he was allowed bail and

:05:54. > :05:56.allowed to be released from prison while the investigation takes place.

:05:57. > :05:59.A decision about whether that injunction is successful could be

:06:00. > :06:03.due early next week which will speed up the hearing and by the end of

:06:04. > :06:06.next week at the earliest we should find out whether or not he has been

:06:07. > :06:08.granted bail but that is the latest move from his legal team here in

:06:09. > :06:09.Rio. Around 30,000 pupils have

:06:10. > :06:11.received their GCSE results today. There's been another rise

:06:12. > :06:13.in the number receiving A* to C grades, as our

:06:14. > :06:15.education correspondent Letting all the tension out after

:06:16. > :06:22.two years of hard work... And Shauna wasn't alone

:06:23. > :06:29.in getting good news at Little Flower Girls School

:06:30. > :06:41.in North Belfast. I got a B in my science, and A in

:06:42. > :06:45.sports studies, an A in maths. Many are planning to follow

:06:46. > :06:47.A-levels after GCSEs, I'm training to work with dogs,

:06:48. > :06:51.I'm going to train to groom them and The performance gap between girls

:06:52. > :06:55.and boys has widened, too. Undoubtedly there is a difference

:06:56. > :07:02.with maturity, but I think things open up

:07:03. > :07:04.and equal out during time. That is very important to remember

:07:05. > :07:14.that this is a measure at 16 when we measure again at 18,

:07:15. > :07:16.things have evened out. But results across Northern

:07:17. > :07:18.Ireland have risen again. The proportion of entries awarded A*

:07:19. > :07:21.to C grades increased to over 79% while the number attracting the top

:07:22. > :07:23.A and A* star grades Those improving results will always

:07:24. > :07:38.spark debates about standards but the people here seem delighted

:07:39. > :07:40.and their counterparts across Northern Ireland have again

:07:41. > :07:42.outperformed those in And that was the Education

:07:43. > :07:47.Minister's message. We have seen very high standards

:07:48. > :07:50.improved upon year on year, and also Northern Ireland is proudly leading

:07:51. > :07:53.the way across the United Kingdom. Pupils at Oakgrove College

:07:54. > :07:58.in Derry were also happy, although some did have concerns

:07:59. > :08:00.about how their family It's kind of like I have to continue

:08:01. > :08:08.because my siblings have It's something that we shouldn't

:08:09. > :08:12.have to worry about. But on a day of good news for many,

:08:13. > :08:17.one pupil at Hazelwood College in Belfast had extra

:08:18. > :08:21.reason to celebrate. So, I got the results I need to go

:08:22. > :08:26.on and study A-levels and do ICT, biology and it is also

:08:27. > :08:31.my birthday today. The police say they are treating

:08:32. > :08:39.an attack on a house in North Belfast last night

:08:40. > :08:41.as a hate crime. A window in the house

:08:42. > :08:44.at Atlantic Avenue was smashed A family from Slovakia

:08:45. > :08:50.were there at the time but no one was in the room

:08:51. > :08:53.where the window was smashed. A neighbour has told BBC Newsline

:08:54. > :08:56.that while the police went to the scene last night

:08:57. > :08:58.after the window was broken, a pipe bomb was not discovered

:08:59. > :09:05.inside until half past A local councillor says it could

:09:06. > :09:08.have caused devastation. We're waiting to hear back from the police

:09:09. > :09:12.for their response and their investigation to be completed and we

:09:13. > :09:16.want to hear that report. We certainly would condemn the attack

:09:17. > :09:21.and it could have caused a lot of devastation to them, given the fact

:09:22. > :09:25.the device remained there overnight and it causes disruption to local

:09:26. > :09:27.families and people in the area this morning.

:09:28. > :09:30.A woman from Dungannon has been sentenced to a three month jail term

:09:31. > :09:32.after pleading guilty to making false statements to the police about

:09:33. > :09:36.The court heard that Dorothy Gardner from Killycanavan Road wasn't

:09:37. > :09:39.at a hustings event in 2015 where she alleged Mr Wells

:09:40. > :09:48.A court heard today that this woman wanted to 'get Jim Wells'.

:09:49. > :09:52.The 49-year-old mother tried to do that by making false

:09:53. > :09:56.It centred on this event in Downpatrick ahead of the 2015

:09:57. > :09:58.general election when Mr Wells was accused of making

:09:59. > :10:05.He stood down as Health minister following the controversy

:10:06. > :10:08.Dorothy Gardner told police she was at the event

:10:09. > :10:14.She claimed she'd heckled Mr Wells and had recorded the encounter.

:10:15. > :10:17.The court heard today these allegations and others were found

:10:18. > :10:23.to be false and no video was produced by Ms Gardner.

:10:24. > :10:26.In fact, police established that she wasn't at the event.

:10:27. > :10:29.At a previous court appearance Ms Gardner admitted

:10:30. > :10:35.Outside court Mr Wells said he hoped it sent a message to others.

:10:36. > :10:40.I think it is important today to remember that politicians cannot

:10:41. > :10:42.be set up and destroyed as the result of totally

:10:43. > :10:45.It goes way beyond what happened to me.

:10:46. > :10:47.If people are going to make complaints about politicians

:10:48. > :10:53.We have the right to have the truth said about what we say.

:10:54. > :10:56.The judge said that Ms Gardeners statement not only wasted police

:10:57. > :11:05.time but damages the justice system and the prospects of those

:11:06. > :11:08.She was sentecned to three months in prison.

:11:09. > :11:16.25,000 music fans are partying the night away at the last big music

:11:17. > :11:17.festival of the summer, Tennents Vital.

:11:18. > :11:21.It's the first night of the festival, which is taking

:11:22. > :11:23.place at the Boucher Road playing fields in Belfast.

:11:24. > :11:25.Headlining are the legendary American rockers the Red

:11:26. > :11:29.Before they went on stage, they told us why they love

:11:30. > :11:42.The Belfast audiences are some of the best and it sounds like I'm

:11:43. > :11:48.saying some kind of cliche like that they are so passionate wonderful. We

:11:49. > :11:53.played here, the first time we played here in 1992, we played

:11:54. > :11:58.Ulster Hall and I remember it being one of the wildest kicks we ever

:11:59. > :11:58.did. And they have a good evening for it.

:11:59. > :12:05.Now let's get a look at the weather prospects with Cecilia Daly.

:12:06. > :12:09.Temperatures reached 23 today at the north-east coast but now we have

:12:10. > :12:13.showers coming in from the West. Some sharp bursts of rain around as

:12:14. > :12:17.well before they ease away in the early hours at many places dry up

:12:18. > :12:22.with just a few showers left behind. It won't be as cool or as clear

:12:23. > :12:25.tonight so tomorrow morning and there is likely to be more cloud

:12:26. > :12:29.around and some showers for a while in the morning. A good chunk of the

:12:30. > :12:40.day should become fairly dry and there will be sunshine developing as

:12:41. > :12:43.the morning goes on and the showers tend to fizzle out. There will be an

:12:44. > :12:46.area of rain in the north of Scotland and showers in the West of

:12:47. > :12:48.Scotland but many parts of Britain will have a fine and warm and sunny

:12:49. > :12:52.day. Mostly dry with sunshine at times the best of it in the east and

:12:53. > :12:56.south. That is where the best of our sunshine will be as well. Not as

:12:57. > :13:01.warm as recent days and still up to 20 degrees in places, which is nice,

:13:02. > :13:04.but cool and fresh tomorrow in the breeze and still perhaps the odd

:13:05. > :13:11.shower around but mostly dry and it should be dry tomorrow but those who

:13:12. > :13:17.are heading to Tennents Vital. Tomorrow dry and cloudy weather.

:13:18. > :13:22.Showers as well as mostly in the north-west but a lot of dry weather

:13:23. > :13:26.away from the north-west corner. On Sunday it will be dry and cloudy

:13:27. > :13:31.weather to come with the odd shower around are not warm as has been.

:13:32. > :13:32.Probably quite good conditions for those taking part in the lap the

:13:33. > :13:33.loch. Our next BBC Newsline is at 6.25am

:13:34. > :13:38.in the morning during Breakfast You can also keep updated
