:00:00. > :00:09.Good evening. for the news

:00:10. > :00:11.A BBC investigation has uncovered new evidence exposing corruption

:00:12. > :00:16.at the heart of the billion-pound Northern Ireland Nama property sale.

:00:17. > :00:19.Tonight's Spotlight programme will feature secret audio recordings

:00:20. > :00:24.taped over several years between a property developer,

:00:25. > :00:27.John Miskelly, and Frank Cushnahan, a committee member of the Republic's

:00:28. > :00:33.Mandy McAuley's report begins with audio secretly recorded

:00:34. > :00:42.by John Miskelly while on his way to meet Frank Cushnahan.

:00:43. > :01:01.Tonight, Spotlight will reveal explosive recordings played for the

:01:02. > :01:05.first time that expose financial corruption, lies and cover-up by the

:01:06. > :01:12.man at the centre of the biggest property transaction in Northern

:01:13. > :01:16.Ireland's history. The sale of Nama's entire Northern Ireland

:01:17. > :01:26.portfolio. Frank Cushnahan said it would be inappropriate to respond to

:01:27. > :01:31.our investigation in light of the ongoing investigations. Just totally

:01:32. > :01:37.corrupt. Have you ever come across anything like this before. In 25

:01:38. > :01:53.years as a financial journalist, I have never heard a tape like this

:01:54. > :02:02.the head of the Dail's financial authority. I presume that that was a

:02:03. > :02:09.transaction of 30,000 in cash. I think that if you were to tell

:02:10. > :02:13.anybody the story without the audio or without the presentation of

:02:14. > :02:18.documents, they would find it extremely difficult to believe. You

:02:19. > :02:25.have to actually listen to the audio. You have to read the

:02:26. > :02:32.documents, and it's only then that the shock begins to set in as to

:02:33. > :02:38.what is really happening in Northern Ireland regarding Project Eagle.

:02:39. > :02:42.John McGinn it is now calling for an investigation by governments on both

:02:43. > :02:44.side of the border. Mandy McAuley, BBC newsline.

:02:45. > :02:46.In a statement this evening John Miskelly said he has

:02:47. > :02:48.consistently and truthfully reported financial crime and corruption

:02:49. > :02:51.to the relevant authorities, and that any payments he has made

:02:52. > :02:58.And you can see Spotlight here on BBC One straight

:02:59. > :03:06.The police have given more details of their search operation

:03:07. > :03:08.in the Larne area in relation to dissident Republican terrorism.

:03:09. > :03:10.They say they have recovered "significant terrorist material"

:03:11. > :03:16.Our north-east reporter, Sara Girvin, reports from Larne.

:03:17. > :03:24.In a statement today, police revealed they've searched 12

:03:25. > :03:27.different locations in the Lan area. They say they have uncovered

:03:28. > :03:32.explosive devices, bomb-making components, chemicals and firearms.

:03:33. > :03:37.The latest in this series of searches took place last night of

:03:38. > :03:41.this morning at a site just behind me. While police have described this

:03:42. > :03:47.material is significant, it's not thought to be of the same quantity

:03:48. > :03:55.is that found earlier this year but come from a country park. The search

:03:56. > :03:59.comes after the arrest of Ciaran Maxwell who appeared in court in

:04:00. > :04:04.London where he has denied fraud and rugs offences, and he is also facing

:04:05. > :04:08.terror charges. In a statement today, police said the searches were

:04:09. > :04:12.part of a joint and ongoing police operation between the PSNI and the

:04:13. > :04:17.Metropolitan Police in London. They have also confirmed that a

:04:18. > :04:19.27-year-old man arrested and questioned on suspicion of dissident

:04:20. > :04:24.republican activity has been released without charge.

:04:25. > :04:27.An extradition hearing has been told that a 46-year-old man from Strabane

:04:28. > :04:30.is being accused of playing a central role in a murder

:04:31. > :04:31.at a boxing weigh-in Dublin in February.

:04:32. > :04:34.The application has been made by the authorities in the Republic.

:04:35. > :04:40.Our reporter Dan Stanton was at the court hearing in Belfast.

:04:41. > :04:45.Gunmen opened fire at the Regency Hotel in Dublin riot after one of

:04:46. > :04:50.the boxes had been weighed in last February. Witnesses says men

:04:51. > :04:53.disguised in police uniforms carried out the attack, which left a man

:04:54. > :04:58.dead and two other people seriously injured. A lawyer representing the

:04:59. > :05:02.Dublin High Court in its extradition warrant said it was the belief of

:05:03. > :05:06.the Irish police that Kevin Murray had played a central role in the

:05:07. > :05:09.murder of David Hearn. They said they would be basing their evidence

:05:10. > :05:15.on CCTV footage and identifications made at the scene. But the

:05:16. > :05:20.46-year-old, arrested yesterday at his home in Townsend Street in

:05:21. > :05:25.Strabane, is contesting the extradition application, and is

:05:26. > :05:29.seeking bail. His lawyer said family members had offered to put up a

:05:30. > :05:32.guarantee of ?10,000. He also said that his client, who uses a walking

:05:33. > :05:39.aid needed assistance to get into the dog, is having tests to see if

:05:40. > :05:43.he has multiple sclerosis. The judge reminded Kevin Murray in custody

:05:44. > :05:47.until Friday, and she will decide after considering medical evidence

:05:48. > :05:50.we didn't grant him bail ahead of the full extradition hearing which

:05:51. > :05:59.could expected to take place here later this much. -- this month.

:06:00. > :06:02.The Public Prosecutors office in Rio de Janeiro has formally laid charges

:06:03. > :06:04.before a judge in relation to the Irish Olympic official

:06:05. > :06:07.Pat Hickey and his alleged role in a suspected ticket touting

:06:08. > :06:12.controversy during the recent Games in Brazil.

:06:13. > :06:15.After he was arrested in his hotel last month, Pat Hickey temporarily

:06:16. > :06:18.stood aside as the president of the Olympic Council of Ireland.

:06:19. > :06:20.He was released from prison last week and placed under

:06:21. > :06:29.He temporarily stood aside as president of the Olympic Council of

:06:30. > :06:30.Ireland. This morning the Public Prosecutor

:06:31. > :06:33.signed legal papers passing formal A judge must now decide

:06:34. > :06:36.whether to accept or reject charges against Mr Hickey

:06:37. > :06:49.and nine other people. A plan by the boundary commission to

:06:50. > :06:51.change parliamentary consistencies Woodsy six new ones, with five going

:06:52. > :06:54.altogether. At the moment we have 18

:06:55. > :06:56.parliamentary constituencies. Under the proposals that

:06:57. > :06:58.would drop to 17 seats, The biggest change would be

:06:59. > :07:05.in Belfast, which would move from four seats to three -

:07:06. > :07:07.Belfast East, Belfast South West Elsewhere, six new constituencies

:07:08. > :07:14.would be created, provisionally called Dalriada, Glenshane,

:07:15. > :07:15.North Tyrone, Upper Bann and Blackwater, West

:07:16. > :07:25.Antrim and West Down. The plan could see some

:07:26. > :07:27.Westminster seats change hands. Our political correspondent

:07:28. > :07:29.Enda McClafferty has been Traditionally it's gone to

:07:30. > :07:41.Unionists. The winds of change move very slowly

:07:42. > :07:45.here at East Londonderry. It has been a Unionist heartland since it

:07:46. > :07:50.first appeared on the political map some 33 years ago, first for the

:07:51. > :07:56.Ulster Unionist Party and now for the DUP. But all that could be about

:07:57. > :07:59.change. Under the proposed boundary changes, East Londonderry would

:08:00. > :08:04.disappear and be replaced by the new constituency of Glenshane. It would

:08:05. > :08:11.bring in mainly nationalist areas like my Gareth Hock.

:08:12. > :08:20.It could well alter the political power base. A long-standing Unionist

:08:21. > :08:28.constituency could transfer from Unionist hands to nationalist hands.

:08:29. > :08:34.And that could mean that places like Limavady wood for the first time

:08:35. > :08:38.have a nationalist MP. There has never been a nationalist

:08:39. > :08:43.constituency here, and there is a real prospect of that happening here

:08:44. > :08:48.with the boundary change the post, you could see it switching from

:08:49. > :08:52.Unionist to nationalist. So what would it mean for nationalists in

:08:53. > :09:04.the constituency? This is good news for the area between Limavady and

:09:05. > :09:08.Magherafelt. Now it looks as if there will be a nationalist MP. Very

:09:09. > :09:12.good news. But voters will get a chance to have their say on the name

:09:13. > :09:13.and the boundaries before the final pieces of this political jigsaw that

:09:14. > :09:19.in place. A castle in County Fermanagh has

:09:20. > :09:21.been closed to the public Concerns were raised by visitors

:09:22. > :09:26.to Monea Castle about livestock grazing in the field

:09:27. > :09:30.surrounding the monument. The decision follows a recent

:09:31. > :09:32.incident on Devenish Island when a tourist was critically

:09:33. > :09:34.injured and her dog killed Our south west reporter

:09:35. > :09:52.Julian Fowler has the story. The ruins of the 400-year-old

:09:53. > :09:56.castle. A local photographer uses them as a backdrop for her wedding

:09:57. > :10:03.portraits, but a few weeks ago, she couldn't get in. We were faced with

:10:04. > :10:09.a huge bowl with a ring in his nose, and we couldn't get in, and we felt,

:10:10. > :10:14.this isn't right. We should be able to have access to our local

:10:15. > :10:18.heritage. Although there is no bull here now, the only way from the cup

:10:19. > :10:22.at the castles across this field. Since I have been here, a number of

:10:23. > :10:26.inquisitive cattle have come right up to the entrance gate. It is a bit

:10:27. > :10:30.of a stand-off that has developed. If you're not used to being around

:10:31. > :10:36.livestock, you could find this situation quite intimidating. Health

:10:37. > :10:41.and Safety Executive advice is to avoid crossing fields where cattle

:10:42. > :10:45.are grazing. They warn that cows with calves can be just as

:10:46. > :10:51.aggressive as balls. But on this occasion, they were just curious.

:10:52. > :10:57.They were on the path, and there were lots of them, huge amount. And

:10:58. > :11:02.it was a touch scary. There are wonderful things, but of the two big

:11:03. > :11:06.and close for comfort sometimes. Although this monument is in state

:11:07. > :11:10.care, the castle and surrounding fields privately owned. Visitors are

:11:11. > :11:15.allowed access, but since filming here last week, the gate has been

:11:16. > :11:21.locked, and the castle closed temporarily to visitors. Many

:11:22. > :11:27.tourists come here to look at castles, and many people also have

:11:28. > :11:31.days out in the county, and they taking two or three castles and

:11:32. > :11:36.enjoy the history of the county. And at a time when we are trying to

:11:37. > :11:41.encourage tourists into Fermanagh, we are actually turning them away.

:11:42. > :11:43.The landowner says the decision to close the castle was taken with the

:11:44. > :11:47.Department for communities for health and safety reasons to allow

:11:48. > :11:49.remedial work such as new fencing to be carried out. The castle is

:11:50. > :12:06.expected to reopen later this month. Hello. Another warm and muggy night,

:12:07. > :12:08.probably not as warm as last night which was the warmest September

:12:09. > :12:19.night on record for Northern Ireland. That said, for some of us,

:12:20. > :12:24.temperatures will fall below 17 or 18 Celsius, but it will be largely

:12:25. > :12:27.dry. Assuming start tomorrow, with sea fog possible across eastern

:12:28. > :12:35.areas, but that should clear quickly. A rather cloudy but warm

:12:36. > :12:40.day with a lot of dry weather, too. Not as much patchy rain or drizzle

:12:41. > :12:45.as we had today. Overall, for much of Britain and Ireland, it is a

:12:46. > :12:54.largely dry picture, the cloud giving wet weather towards northern

:12:55. > :13:00.area of Scotland. Temperatures in around 24 Celsius. Into the second

:13:01. > :13:05.part of the day for us, the sunshine will come and go, the risk of one or

:13:06. > :13:10.two scattered showers developing, but they won't be for everyone and

:13:11. > :13:16.shouldn't amount to much. 21 or maybe 20 to Celsius the best. It

:13:17. > :13:21.will be cooler on Thursday, a little rain expected at times, especially

:13:22. > :13:24.later in the day, and it will be a windy start Thursday before the

:13:25. > :13:28.winds begin to ease. As for Friday on the weekend, it will be unsettled

:13:29. > :13:31.at times. And that's it. Good night.
