:00:54. > :00:57.and John Paul Wootton, were convicted of his murder.
:00:58. > :00:59.Two years ago, they failed in a legal bid to have their
:01:00. > :01:07.At the time, the Lord Chief Justice said he and his fellow appeal judges
:01:08. > :01:21.were satisfied the guilty verdicts were correct.
:01:22. > :01:23.But McConville and Wooten have continued to protest innocence.
:01:24. > :01:26.Last week, a Sinn Fein delegation met the men in Maghaberry Prison.
:01:27. > :01:28.It was led by Declan Kearney on the Justice Committee.
:01:29. > :01:31.This is how he revealed details of the visit,
:01:32. > :01:32.putting a video on his Twitter account.
:01:33. > :01:35.We discussed the very serious concerns that relate
:01:36. > :01:38.to the conviction of both of those prisoners.
:01:39. > :01:43.Today's visit represents an opportunity for our party
:01:44. > :01:44.to become increasingly informed as to the overall
:01:45. > :01:53.But the visit has angered Stephen Carroll's widow.
:01:54. > :01:57.I would ask any one of them who was sat on the court for 13
:01:58. > :02:00.weeks that I sat in each and every day for 13 weeks,
:02:01. > :02:03.at the original trial, I heard how my husband's brain
:02:04. > :02:07.I saw the actual gun that killed him.
:02:08. > :02:12.I saw the reactions of the perpetrators,
:02:13. > :02:19.Today, Pat Sheehan, a former prisoner and was part
:02:20. > :02:21.of the delegation, defended the decision to meet Brendan
:02:22. > :02:25.I can understand that Kate Carroll is hurt and that the suffering
:02:26. > :02:31.she has had to deal with has been made worse by this.
:02:32. > :02:37.However, to go back to the point, everyone is entitled to the highest
:02:38. > :02:42.No matter who they are or where they are.
:02:43. > :02:46.The DUP have dismissed the visit as a stunt,
:02:47. > :02:49.which they say will only cause more hurt for the Carroll family.
:02:50. > :02:58.They are convicted murderers, they have gone through the Court
:02:59. > :03:00.of Appeal and the appeal was thrown out.
:03:01. > :03:03.In fact, one of their sentences was increased.
:03:04. > :03:06.So I think we have to be mindful that these individuals
:03:07. > :03:11.Whatever the political fallout from the visit, Brendan McConville
:03:12. > :03:12.and John Paul Wootton are still fighting to
:03:13. > :03:18.They have taken their challenge to the criminal cases review
:03:19. > :03:20.commission in the hope that it will refer their case back
