:00:07. > :00:09.First a very disturbing story and I must warn

:00:10. > :00:13.you the following report contains upsetting details.

:00:14. > :00:17.A court was told today about how a woman with severe learning

:00:18. > :00:20.difficulties was kept a virtual prisoner in a house in Craigavon

:00:21. > :00:23.and subjected to appalling sexual abuse for eight years.

:00:24. > :00:25.That abuse was carried out by Keith Baker and his

:00:26. > :00:31.Her plight was only discovered when another woman who lived

:00:32. > :00:43.When the police rescued the woman just before Christmas 2012, she was

:00:44. > :00:48.emaciated and had only one single tooth left. The only toilet she had

:00:49. > :00:53.access to was overflowing with human waste. The woman appeared very

:00:54. > :00:57.confused, ask how long she had been in the room she spoke in a child

:00:58. > :01:03.like voice and did not know if it had been six or two years. She was

:01:04. > :01:10.first brought to Northern Ireland in 2004 by Baker. Today at Craigavon

:01:11. > :01:15.Caught the prosecuting barrister said that Keith Baker's live had

:01:16. > :01:19.been dominated by his sexual needs and desires. Both he, in a

:01:20. > :01:23.wheelchair, and his wife, hang their heads throughout the hearing as

:01:24. > :01:28.graphic details were outlined of horrific sexual assaults captured on

:01:29. > :01:31.video was shot by Keith Baker and then both he and his wife can be

:01:32. > :01:36.seen repeatedly raping the woman over a matter of years. In the

:01:37. > :01:41.beginning she is well nourished, by the end she is emaciated. These

:01:42. > :01:47.houses are now occupied by people with absolutely no connection to the

:01:48. > :01:51.Baker couple. The neighbour also has moved on but back in 2013 she was

:01:52. > :01:55.questioned by police and she told them that in eight years of going in

:01:56. > :01:59.and out of this house she had never once seen the woman they found on

:02:00. > :02:03.that December night. The victim was not registered with a doctor or

:02:04. > :02:10.whether dentist, and no benefits had ever been claimed in her name. In

:02:11. > :02:13.2004 the husband, who also had severe learning difficulties, had

:02:14. > :02:17.reported her missing to the police force in England. The PS and I

:02:18. > :02:24.however had no knowledge of all contact with the woman until

:02:25. > :02:31.December 2012 when the alarm was raised by a woman referred to by the

:02:32. > :02:35.court only as Miss X. She lived with Baker effectively as a second wife

:02:36. > :02:39.and was the mother of four of his eight children, Caroline Baker was

:02:40. > :02:44.the mother of the other four. It was, the court was told, grossly

:02:45. > :02:47.unconventional household. In the end it was Miss X raised the alarm

:02:48. > :02:51.bringing to the end eight years of suffering for the victim and

:02:52. > :02:56.beginning a legal process that will end when the couple sentenced next

:02:57. > :02:59.Tuesday. Gordon Adair, BBC Newsline, Craigavon.

:03:00. > :03:01.Discussions continued all day and into the evening as efforts

:03:02. > :03:03.continued at Stormont to try and find a way to restore

:03:04. > :03:08.There are just three days to go before the deadline to elect a first

:03:09. > :03:11.and deputy first minister runs out at four o'clock on Monday afternoon.

:03:12. > :03:19.Our political correspondent Gareth Gordon reports.

:03:20. > :03:24.In the Stormont sunshine the people who must do the dealing could hardly

:03:25. > :03:31.look more relaxed but appearances can be deceptive. And some distance

:03:32. > :03:36.still remains. It always seems to come to this point, time running out

:03:37. > :03:41.and the deadline concentrating minds. So what are the chances? I

:03:42. > :03:49.believe that a deal is still achievable. With goodwill, good

:03:50. > :03:55.spirits, and that positive intent. But time is short, and we must

:03:56. > :04:03.firmly focused on those key issues to enable an executive to be formed

:04:04. > :04:07.on Monday. We are likely to be here order into the evening, I suspect we

:04:08. > :04:11.will be here tomorrow but do believe that the deadline of four o'clock on

:04:12. > :04:16.Monday is not one that can be taken lightly. Some believe the odds can

:04:17. > :04:22.only be improved by the appearance of the DUP leader at the funeral of

:04:23. > :04:27.Martin McGuinness and the warm reception she received. Although

:04:28. > :04:31.that alone cannot be enough. People must understand that symbolism,

:04:32. > :04:36.while very important, only takes us so far. What need to do now is

:04:37. > :04:44.embrace that positive spirit that we saw in Derry yesterday, and begin to

:04:45. > :04:48.move this process forward. But there still remains a problem that

:04:49. > :04:54.successive talks have failed to resolve, the past. The fact that the

:04:55. > :04:58.issue has not been resolved has damaged the ability to do politics

:04:59. > :05:01.in a broader sense here and the British government know that, that's

:05:02. > :05:05.why we had talks, that's why we have a fresh start agreement, the British

:05:06. > :05:09.government failed to deliver on the back of all those sets of talks. So

:05:10. > :05:12.if you think this is a serious proposition for families and

:05:13. > :05:15.campaign groups out there to say, let's kick the scan down the road

:05:16. > :05:20.for another bit and see how it works out, then that is not serious

:05:21. > :05:24.approach. So there's much to do before the parties can enjoy their

:05:25. > :05:29.day in the sun. The potential of getting a deal by 4pm is probably

:05:30. > :05:33.limited. The heat may be on but don't get carried away by the white

:05:34. > :05:36.smoke yet. Gareth Gordon, BBC Newsline, Stormont.

:05:37. > :05:39.Belfast city hall is lit up in the colours of the union flag

:05:40. > :05:41.tonight in solidarity with the people of London

:05:42. > :05:43.after the terrorist attack at Westminster earlier this week.

:05:44. > :05:47.The building is awash in red, white and blue in memory

:05:48. > :05:50.of the four people killed by a man armed with a knife who mowed down

:05:51. > :05:53.pedestrians with his car before stabbing to death a policeman

:05:54. > :06:01.The attacker was then shot dead by police officers.

:06:02. > :06:03.Two teenage boys have been injured in a petrol bomb

:06:04. > :06:06.It happened last night in the Lakelands area.

:06:07. > :06:12.The boys were watching television in the living room

:06:13. > :06:14.when the device was thrown through a window.

:06:15. > :06:16.Both suffered injuries to their feet from broken glass.

:06:17. > :06:19.The police said a group of three or four young people were seen

:06:20. > :06:21.running away from the house after the attack.

:06:22. > :06:25.A local Ulster Unionist MLA condemned the attack.

:06:26. > :06:31.As it happens, the two children, although only slightly hurt and did

:06:32. > :06:34.not receive hospital treatment last night are receiving it today. Had

:06:35. > :06:38.they not escaped, had that fire taken hold quickly, and smoke

:06:39. > :06:41.infiltrated the building, than those children would not have got out and

:06:42. > :06:44.we would be looking at a murder scene and they would have to live

:06:45. > :06:46.with that for the rest of their lives.

:06:47. > :06:49.Football now and the Republic drew 0-0 with Wales in tonight's

:06:50. > :06:52.There are concerns that Seamus Coleman could be out

:06:53. > :06:54.of the game for some time following a challenge

:06:55. > :06:57.which saw Wales reduced to ten men and the Ireland

:06:58. > :07:09.Knowing that Serbia's 3-1 victory over Georgia today had that Serbia

:07:10. > :07:12.top of the group and was vitally important for Martin O'Neill's site

:07:13. > :07:17.to maintain their unbeaten Mac start to the qualifying campaign. Brian

:07:18. > :07:21.McBride was remembered with applause before the match and also in the

:07:22. > :07:25.fifth minute. His former Derry City team-mate James McLean wore his

:07:26. > :07:29.number five jersey in his memory. In a very cagey first half neither

:07:30. > :07:32.keeper was threatened, although after the interval one moment of

:07:33. > :07:37.magic from Welsh superstar Gareth Bale almost broke the deadlock.

:07:38. > :07:40.Wales were then reduced to ten men when Neil Taylor's reckless

:07:41. > :07:45.challenge on Seamus Coleman merited a red card. The Irish captain was

:07:46. > :07:50.stretchered off the pitch in obvious pain with a suspected broken leg. It

:07:51. > :07:54.provoked a reaction from the Republic, James McLean went close

:07:55. > :07:58.for the home side, his well struck shot deflected wide. With time

:07:59. > :08:05.ticking down Gareth Bale almost smashed and for Wales. But both

:08:06. > :08:10.sides had to make do with one point. Next to the Republic of Ireland, a

:08:11. > :08:14.friendly next Tuesday against Iceland, the next qualifier will be

:08:15. > :08:16.against Austria in June. Thomas Kane, ABC News Lang, at the Aviva

:08:17. > :08:21.Stadium in Dublin. -- BBC Newsline. Northern Ireland will be at home

:08:22. > :08:24.to Norway on Sunday. Now in rugby, Ulster have beat

:08:25. > :08:26.Newport Gwent Dragons 27-17 John Andrew burrowed in for a late

:08:27. > :08:40.try after an Ulster maul, Good evening. Lovely to see some

:08:41. > :08:44.springlike sunshine today, more of that this weekend, high-pressure

:08:45. > :08:48.keeping its dry. Springlike sunshine during daylight hours, the night is

:08:49. > :08:53.still quite cold so quite a range in temperatures between day and night.

:08:54. > :08:56.Certainly tonight with the clear skies, the temperatures are falling

:08:57. > :09:00.down towards freezing in the towns, a couple of degrees lower than that

:09:01. > :09:06.in the countryside, quite widespread frost and perhaps the odd pocket of

:09:07. > :09:16.fog. Tomorrow, a fine day, dry with decent spells of

:09:17. > :09:21.sunshine but will be a cold start and frosty early on. Once the sun

:09:22. > :09:24.gets up it will melt but frost away. And for much of Britain and Ireland

:09:25. > :09:26.we will be looking at a lot of fine weather with a good deal of

:09:27. > :09:29.sunshine, still a bit breezy towards the south of England and the north

:09:30. > :09:31.of Scotland, a bit more clout, although also mainly dry. Through

:09:32. > :09:35.the central swathe of the country the winds are light so it will be

:09:36. > :09:39.pleasant as those temperatures rise, eventually reaching 14 or 15 in

:09:40. > :09:46.parts of Northern Ireland, especially towards the west and east

:09:47. > :09:50.coast, fresher. Tomorrow night the clocks moving forward one our come

:09:51. > :09:51.into British summer Time. After a frosty start Sunday looks like

:09:52. > :09:57.another fine springlike day.
