:00:27. > :00:28.to BBC Newsline's Mark Simpson, who's in

:00:29. > :00:34.Most people here in Mauritius thought John McAreavey would never

:00:35. > :00:39.be back on the island but as we speak he is on his way.

:01:02. > :01:03.Claire and Mark Carter, one of Michaela's brothers.

:01:04. > :01:05.His decision to return was not a sudden decision.

:01:06. > :01:07.He has been planning it for quite some time,

:01:08. > :01:10.and before he left I spoke to him, and I asked him what

:01:11. > :01:12.he hoped to achieve by coming back here.

:01:13. > :01:15.What we're trying to achieve from this whole process is justice,

:01:16. > :01:19.and that is justice for Michaela, for our families.

:01:20. > :01:28.It is a hard process, and there's no doubt about that.

:01:29. > :01:32.But it has been hard ever since Michaela died.

:01:33. > :01:35.And I suppose this process isn't just picking up again from 2012.

:01:36. > :01:37.This has been an ongoing process for our families for

:01:38. > :01:44.The difference now is we are taking a bit more of a lead,

:01:45. > :01:47.because we are not content with how things have been happening

:01:48. > :01:52.The question many people are asking is why now?

:01:53. > :01:58.John McAreavey recently remarried, and here in Mauritius

:01:59. > :02:01.there is absolutely no sign of a breakthrough in the police

:02:02. > :02:08.investigation but John is adamant that his visit here

:02:09. > :02:21.We could sit in a studio in Belfast or wherever and announced that and

:02:22. > :02:23.the media might grab that and run with that but we need to appeal to

:02:24. > :02:25.the people in Mauritius. We felt that the biggest way

:02:26. > :02:27.to achieve that was to Five years ago, two

:02:28. > :02:40.hotel workers were found After that the police here launched

:02:41. > :02:42.a fresh investigation that it achieved nothing.

:02:43. > :02:44.Will John McAreavey's presence here achieve anything?

:02:45. > :02:46.Nobody knows but he is prepared to give it a try.

:02:47. > :02:52.A pipe bomb has been made safe outside

:02:53. > :02:56.People living in the Tamneymore Park area of the Waterside

:02:57. > :02:59.had to leave their houses for a time while army bomb disposal experts

:03:00. > :03:03.There's increasing concern about the level of dissident

:03:04. > :03:07.violence, with four attacks stretching from Strabane to Derry

:03:08. > :03:14.A forensic team was carrying out detailed follow-up searches at this

:03:15. > :03:19.The army examined a suspicious object at Tamneymore Park

:03:20. > :03:27.It followed a paramilitary-style attack on Wednesday evening,

:03:28. > :03:39.Two days earlier, a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg

:03:40. > :03:44.in Creggan after being forced to lie on the floor by two masked men.

:03:45. > :03:46.We still have small groups of people who are

:03:47. > :03:50.It is up to us to drag them out of the past.

:03:51. > :03:58.There is no place for guns or bombs on our streets.

:03:59. > :04:01.Last week in Strabane, the PSNI said there was an attempt to kill

:04:02. > :04:04.officers after a roadside bomb in the Townsend Street area.

:04:05. > :04:07.As I say, there was a clear message sent at the recent election.

:04:08. > :04:10.They want politicians to deliver for them.

:04:11. > :04:15.They don't want faceless people doing things on their behalf.

:04:16. > :04:25.One DUP MLA has raised his security concerns with the PSNI.

:04:26. > :04:32.We have been assured they are doing all they can to bring these people

:04:33. > :04:33.to justice and tried to minimise any impact they can have.

:04:34. > :04:36.The police in the city have issued an appeal for information.

:04:37. > :04:44.They want to hear from anyone who saw suspicious

:04:45. > :04:46.activity around Gobnascale to come forward.

:04:47. > :04:50.The bodies of a man and a woman have been recovered from the river

:04:51. > :04:54.The couple, on holiday from Germany, had been on a hired boat.

:04:55. > :04:56.They were last seen at a restaurant in Carrick-on-Shannon

:04:57. > :05:00.The body of the man, who was 40 and originally from Roscommon,

:05:01. > :05:02.was found this afternoon at the town's marina.

:05:03. > :05:05.The woman, who was found a few hours later, was English and in her 30s.

:05:06. > :05:09.Postmortem examinations will be carried out on Monday.

:05:10. > :05:12.Detectives are investigating after a man's body was found

:05:13. > :05:18.It is thought the body may have washed ashore.

:05:19. > :05:23.A year ago all of the local hospitals went smoke-free.

:05:24. > :05:24.Staff, patients and visitors were banned from

:05:25. > :05:29.The Western Trust first adopted the policy in 2014.

:05:30. > :05:34.Linzi Lima has been finding out if people are adhering to the ban.

:05:35. > :05:41.Health trusts here declared themselves smoke-free zones.

:05:42. > :05:45.Smoking is not allowed anywhere on hospital grounds.

:05:46. > :05:50.A year on, has the ban made any difference?

:05:51. > :06:02.The fact we went smoke-free last year, 2016, it is a slow work

:06:03. > :06:07.in process but it is still improving, which is the main thing.

:06:08. > :06:16.There is a lot less litter as well so it is improving.

:06:17. > :06:18.Joe is the smoking warden at the Belfast Trust.

:06:19. > :06:21.There's no smoking on the grounds, OK?

:06:22. > :06:25.You just have to be compassionate with them.

:06:26. > :06:27.Some people might have had a relative that just died.

:06:28. > :06:29.They might have been told they have a terminal illness,

:06:30. > :06:32.so you have to be compassionate in your approach and have sympathy

:06:33. > :06:38.The smoke-free policy is a ministerial directive, not law,

:06:39. > :06:40.meaning those lighting up on hospital grounds

:06:41. > :06:44.may be asked to put it out but won't face prosecution.

:06:45. > :06:48.We are certainly seeing an improvement on all of our sites.

:06:49. > :06:50.Although, I have to say, and be totally honest,

:06:51. > :06:53.that it is still a challenge, and particularly a challenge

:06:54. > :06:57.on our big sites such as the Royal and the City Hospital.

:06:58. > :07:06.Maybe not at the front of the hospital

:07:07. > :07:09.but there should be somewhere for long-stay patients

:07:10. > :07:15.People who smoke and are in hospital, what do they do?

:07:16. > :07:32.Especially when I'm on my way to the cancer ward.

:07:33. > :07:34.I think they should have an allocated area for them,

:07:35. > :07:37.maybe not just at the front door because sometimes it's busy

:07:38. > :07:40.I don't smoke personally, so not favourable!

:07:41. > :07:42.Undoubtedly at entrances and grounds at some hospitals,

:07:43. > :07:48.The trust still say their policy is working and those

:07:49. > :07:53.Through the use of a warden and education policy,

:07:54. > :08:00.they hope those numbers will reduce even further.

:08:01. > :08:04.And just one football result in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division,

:08:05. > :08:07.where Bray Wanderers beat Derry City 3-2.

:08:08. > :08:09.The Candystripers took to the pitch in shirts

:08:10. > :08:13.honouring their former captain, Ryan McBride, who died

:08:14. > :08:29.It's the start of the weekend and although it isn't likely to be quite

:08:30. > :08:35.as good as last weekend there is some fine weather. It's a weekend of

:08:36. > :08:40.two halves, we started on a showery note but the showers will fade away,

:08:41. > :08:45.it turns drier and brighter but cooler air so quite chilly at night

:08:46. > :08:51.and even daytime not as mild as before. The showers will use

:08:52. > :08:56.weighted night to the north so many places to running dry, even tonight

:08:57. > :09:00.is cooler than last night, and tomorrow we should see some bright

:09:01. > :09:06.spells, maybe initially in the morning and then later, in between

:09:07. > :09:10.we have showers so a bit of an April fool, tomorrow starts after right

:09:11. > :09:15.and bright but showers will edge through the later part of the

:09:16. > :09:21.morning. Low pressure is the dominating feature on Britain and

:09:22. > :09:26.Ireland as a whole so that brings a mix of sunshine and showers, some

:09:27. > :09:31.places may avoid the showers but were they do come along they could

:09:32. > :09:36.be heavy and thundery. We will have those into the afternoon, moving

:09:37. > :09:42.south and east, here they could be heavy with under but they clear away

:09:43. > :09:46.later on, so a drier and brighter end to the day but a north-westerly

:09:47. > :09:52.wind means temperatures are not as high. Tomorrow night cold, there

:09:53. > :09:56.could be grown frost on Sunday morning but does that of the two

:09:57. > :09:57.days, mainly dry with bright and sunny spells.

:09:58. > :10:09.BBC Northern Ireland is keeping her country...

:10:10. > :10:13...from line-dancing champions to crooning kids.
