:00:00. > :00:10.The deadline to form a new power-sharing Executive

:00:11. > :00:12.has been pushed back until after the General Election.

:00:13. > :00:17.It is thought it will now be the end of June.

:00:18. > :00:19.The Secretary of State had set early May as the deadline

:00:20. > :00:24.And the SDLP leader has been giving more detail on his comments

:00:25. > :00:26.yesterday about his plan to form an anti-Brexit alliance.

:00:27. > :00:39.Our political correspondent Enda McClafferty reports.

:00:40. > :00:44.Politicians are getting an extension. They had been working

:00:45. > :00:51.towards a deadline early next month to rebuild the power-sharing

:00:52. > :01:03.Executive. Though they will have another month to complete the

:01:04. > :01:09.mission. He has simply stretched the same we hope to form a new

:01:10. > :01:17.executive. The time over under the current law has expired. But Sinn

:01:18. > :01:19.Fein say they are big questions about the commitment of the

:01:20. > :01:28.government to restoring the institutions. It is fair to say that

:01:29. > :01:29.is a growing belief from the nationalist community that the

:01:30. > :01:37.British government did not want this to work because they did not want

:01:38. > :01:44.the people here taking a firm stand on Brexit, because the people here

:01:45. > :01:50.voted for us to stay within the European Union. I am disappointed

:01:51. > :01:55.that deadlines for the beginning of next month are unlikely not to be

:01:56. > :02:00.bit. But there is an obligation on everybody to make sure that the

:02:01. > :02:04.executive and assembly are re-established here at the earliest

:02:05. > :02:19.opportunity. Much of the talk today was about alliances. Sinn Fein Said

:02:20. > :02:24.they were willing to discuss them. But the SDLP said they wanted an

:02:25. > :02:32.alliance of parties opposed to Brexit. We will not form a sectarian

:02:33. > :02:38.pact with one party which would exclude another part of the

:02:39. > :02:43.community. Other parties may want to do that. We want to form an alliance

:02:44. > :02:47.against Brexit. We want the Prime Minister to be a weird that the

:02:48. > :02:51.people here do not want that. No decision has been taken is to bring

:02:52. > :03:00.the current process will start, but the parties still feel a call will

:03:01. > :03:05.be made long before polling day on June the 8th.

:03:06. > :03:07.A five-year-old child was so traumatised by a gun attack

:03:08. > :03:09.on her west Belfast home that she stopped breathing

:03:10. > :03:13.for a time, according to her cousin who was with her during the attack.

:03:14. > :03:15.The shots were fired at the house in Atch-namona

:03:16. > :03:17.Crescent late last night. Martin Cassidy reports.

:03:18. > :03:20.About 10pm last night, shots were fired at a terraced house

:03:21. > :03:22.here in the Crescent and there were two people

:03:23. > :03:25.in the house at the time - one a young woman and also

:03:26. > :03:37.I just thought someone had put the fist and banged

:03:38. > :03:42.But then there was another one, then another one.

:03:43. > :03:44.I just stood in the room and my cousin

:03:45. > :04:03.They escaped injury, but the little girl was traumatised by

:04:04. > :04:06.They were beating on the heart of the five-year-old.

:04:07. > :04:21.Eventually, she did start breathing again. But the five-year-old did

:04:22. > :04:23.stop believing. The attack has been

:04:24. > :04:32.condemned by Sinn Fein. It is clear the attackers who fired

:04:33. > :04:35.through the windows of the house did not care who the target was,

:04:36. > :04:38.there was a young woman with a five-year-old and we're

:04:39. > :04:41.grateful none of them were harmed. People in this area and the family

:04:42. > :04:44.are asking why this attack happened, because no-one has

:04:45. > :04:47.explained to them why it occurred The people who carried out

:04:48. > :05:03.this attack must come Hiddink police enquiries

:05:04. > :05:10.A public meeting has taken place in Roslea in protest at the closure

:05:11. > :05:14.The former GP retired last year and patients have

:05:15. > :05:15.now been transferred to a surgery in Lisnaskea.

:05:16. > :05:18.The meeting heard from people who now face a round trip of

:05:19. > :05:21.30 miles in an area poorly served by public transport.

:05:22. > :05:23.But they were told no doctors applied to take

:05:24. > :05:38.Young doctors they want to work in group practices. They are aware of

:05:39. > :05:46.governments and providing best practice and they think that can be

:05:47. > :05:58.best provided with an a system of peer support. And it is very

:05:59. > :05:59.difficult to find the law comes. We are establishing a good practice in

:06:00. > :06:01.this new arrangement. A former international cricketer has

:06:02. > :06:04.been found guilty of possessing a hammer and assaulting

:06:05. > :06:06.a doorman outside a pub 61-year-old Rodney Ontong,

:06:07. > :06:09.who is originally from South Africa but now lives at Elm Court

:06:10. > :06:12.in the city, was fined ?350. The court heard that the doorman has

:06:13. > :06:15.left his job and his doctor believes he now has

:06:16. > :06:20.post-traumatic stress disorder. People living near a picturesque bay

:06:21. > :06:23.in County Antrim are opposing plans to land power cables

:06:24. > :06:25.from an proposed tidal The company says Murlough Bay

:06:26. > :06:29.is just one option and there will be planning conditions attached

:06:30. > :06:31.to any approval. Here is our Agriculture

:06:32. > :06:32.and Environment Correspondent, It is one of the most picturesque

:06:33. > :06:42.places along the coastline. A designated place of

:06:43. > :06:46.scientific interest. It also has strong sea curerent,

:06:47. > :06:48.hence its attaction The final design for the tidal

:06:49. > :06:53.energy scheme has not been put forward, but is believed to include

:06:54. > :06:55.certain elements which would stick Given that this is such

:06:56. > :07:02.a breathtaking part of the countryside, there

:07:03. > :07:04.are reservations about how the power cables get on to the land and get

:07:05. > :07:21.hooked up into the grid. And that is where

:07:22. > :07:28.the problems start. Patrick is worried about the cables

:07:29. > :07:31.coming ashore here and a new power station having to be

:07:32. > :07:37.built on the cliffs. It would create a massive

:07:38. > :07:44.scar on the landscape. It would also take

:07:45. > :07:50.many years to achieve. If that is really the thinking

:07:51. > :07:53.about this proposal, there are certain to be

:07:54. > :07:59.a lot of objections. The other would be a much longer

:08:00. > :08:04.and more expensive undersea cable If this gets the go-ahead,

:08:05. > :08:12.there will be a range of conditions We hope to work with the various

:08:13. > :08:18.residents, interest groups and licensing authorities,

:08:19. > :08:24.with regard to that. The energy company

:08:25. > :08:26.has only applied for permission for what it

:08:27. > :08:30.wants to build at sea. A plan for the onshore substation

:08:31. > :08:32.is expected to be submitted But most 15-year-olds

:08:33. > :08:46.in Northern Ireland are said to That is the key finding

:08:47. > :08:50.of a large-scale international study of students' well-being

:08:51. > :08:52.by the Organisation for Economic Our education correspondent

:08:53. > :08:57.Robbie Meredith has more. There are 700 teenagers

:08:58. > :08:59.preparing for their GCSEs at the Easter School run

:09:00. > :09:01.by the West Belfast They're obviously hard-working,

:09:02. > :09:07.but are they happy? The OECD asked half a million

:09:08. > :09:09.pupils in 70 countries to score how satisfied

:09:10. > :09:11.with their lives they were. From a zero, which meant

:09:12. > :09:14.they were very unhappy, to a ten, which meant

:09:15. > :09:17.they were very happy indeed. The average life satisfaction

:09:18. > :09:19.score in Northern Ireland was 7.24 out of ten,

:09:20. > :09:21.around the European average but higher than England,

:09:22. > :09:22.Scotland and Wales. But what about young

:09:23. > :09:34.people in West Belfast? I am working hard

:09:35. > :09:44.and I have support. Have good relationships

:09:45. > :10:02.with my friends. When you test yourself

:10:03. > :10:08.and get the results you want, that also gives

:10:09. > :10:13.you motivation. The study also found

:10:14. > :10:15.pupils performed best when they talked regularly

:10:16. > :10:24.with their parents about school. He says you should go and get

:10:25. > :10:30.help with your GCSEs. School can only help the children

:10:31. > :10:33.for so long in a day and then they The strategy at school is one

:10:34. > :10:37.we hope will be carried through That is what we are

:10:38. > :10:41.attempting to do. It wasn't all plain sailing,

:10:42. > :10:44.there are still worries about exams and bullying remains a problem

:10:45. > :10:47.but what this study suggests is that contrary to some of the stereotypes,

:10:48. > :10:49.the majority of our teenagers are happy, ambitious

:10:50. > :10:59.and highly motivated. The next fight for the Belfast boxer

:11:00. > :11:02.Michael Conlan will be in Chicago and he has confirmed that his second

:11:03. > :11:07.professional bout will on May 26. The name of his opponent

:11:08. > :11:09.has yet to be released, although he is likely to be a step

:11:10. > :11:13.up in class from Tim Ibarra, who Conlan comfortably defeated

:11:14. > :11:15.in his pro debut in New York Now, what does the weather have

:11:16. > :11:43.in store for the next few days? Good evening. Temperatures in the 15

:11:44. > :11:49.Mark today, but temperatures going to be a bit lower over the next few

:11:50. > :11:55.days. Overnight and eight, more persistent drizzle developing across

:11:56. > :12:05.the north and west. A damp start on Friday. Some patchy rain on and off

:12:06. > :12:13.during the course of the day. The yearly rain and drizzle should ease

:12:14. > :12:20.off, particularly in the East. This area of rain in Scotland will push

:12:21. > :12:25.down south during the day to waters. The Republic of Ireland enjoying

:12:26. > :12:30.some lovely spring sunshine. Also sunshine across eastern coastal

:12:31. > :12:40.areas of England. Across much of the UK, a lot of cloud cover.

:12:41. > :12:47.Temperatures down slightly on today. Not bad for this time of year,

:12:48. > :12:57.however, 12-15dC. It should dry up over the weekend. Temperatures

:12:58. > :13:06.dropping. Much called arriving next week. That will be accompanied by

:13:07. > :13:12.heavy showers. A low pressure becoming the dominant feature from

:13:13. > :13:13.Sunday night into next week. Coming down from the Arctic Circle. A

:13:14. > :13:18.significant drop in temperature. Our next BBC Newsline
