:00:00. > :00:09.The police say a sizeable bomb that was left at the gates

:00:10. > :00:12.of Holy Cross Boys School in Ardoyne in north Belfast was an attempt

:00:13. > :00:16.by violent dissident Republicans to kill police officers.

:00:17. > :00:19.Up to 20 families had to be moved from their homes for most

:00:20. > :00:22.of the night while the bomb was dealt with.

:00:23. > :00:25.The Secretary of State James Brokenshire said the consequences

:00:26. > :00:31.could have been devastating. Dan Stanton reports from Ardoyne.

:00:32. > :00:37.The bomb was left outside the school gates on a busy pedestrian route

:00:38. > :00:41.between the shops in Ardoyne and a social club at the bottom of the

:00:42. > :00:46.hill. It was spotted by police just before midnight close to these

:00:47. > :00:49.terraced homes. There is no doubt the device were there to try to kill

:00:50. > :00:54.community police officers on the beat in the local area but also it

:00:55. > :00:58.was left in such a reckless manner and such a reckless occasion that it

:00:59. > :01:02.would undoubtedly have led to death of the member of the public had it

:01:03. > :01:05.exploded. Police knocked on the doors on all of these homes and

:01:06. > :01:09.asked people living in home to leave. They will offer the

:01:10. > :01:13.alternative of going to a community centre or to stay with friends. A

:01:14. > :01:19.mother and her daughter are on the 20 families forced to leave their

:01:20. > :01:26.homes. You can see the fear in her eyes, affected quite badly by this.

:01:27. > :01:29.She said her mum woke her up at 1am in the morning and said we have to

:01:30. > :01:34.leave the house and for any young child, it is difficult for it to go

:01:35. > :01:41.through it so you can tell people were affected by this incident.

:01:42. > :01:46.Those who are involved in this need to get off people's backs and they

:01:47. > :01:49.need to go away. It's as straightforward as that. After the

:01:50. > :01:55.device was taken away, the police cordon was lifted and people were

:01:56. > :02:01.allowed to return. Thank goodness everyone was out safe. You don't

:02:02. > :02:11.want these things, so you don't. It's lucky nobody was hurt. Nobody

:02:12. > :02:15.needs this. Why are people doing it? It doesn't achieve anything.

:02:16. > :02:20.Forensic experts will analyse the bomb for clues. The Holycross boys

:02:21. > :02:25.school is due to open after the Easter holidays.

:02:26. > :02:28.A car has been driven into the front of a house in Larne.

:02:29. > :02:30.There are few details about the incident which happened

:02:31. > :02:32.at the property on the Killyglen road in the Craighyhill area

:02:33. > :02:37.It's not yet known if anyone was injured.

:02:38. > :02:39.Firefighters and police are still at the scene.

:02:40. > :02:43.A rider is in a critical condition in hospital after he crashed

:02:44. > :02:47.during yesterday evening's Tandragee 100 road races in County Armagh.

:02:48. > :02:50.38-year-old Dario Cecconi from Italy suffered serious

:02:51. > :02:53.injuries in the incident, which happened on the approach

:02:54. > :02:57.to Bells Crossroads on the final lap of the Senior Support race.

:02:58. > :03:01.It's understood another rider was involved in the accident.

:03:02. > :03:04.The final two races of the meeting were abandoned.

:03:05. > :03:08.The Tandragee 100 was the first road race of the new season.

:03:09. > :03:11.The Ulster Unionist leader Robin Swann and the DUP leader

:03:12. > :03:14.Arlene Foster are due to meet tomorrow to discuss the potential

:03:15. > :03:17.of a unionist pact in some constituencies in June's

:03:18. > :03:21.general election. Mr Swann has already declared his

:03:22. > :03:24.party won't be standing in Foyle, or North and West Belfast.

:03:25. > :03:28.It was one of the major talking points when the five main parties

:03:29. > :03:36.took part in todays Sunday Politics as Helen Jones now reports.

:03:37. > :03:45.Pacts are on the agenda with the five main parties limbering up. Last

:03:46. > :03:48.general election, Belfast took the seat from the Alliance Party after

:03:49. > :03:53.the Ulster Unionist Party decided not to field a candidate. He will be

:03:54. > :04:00.hoping for a similar pact this time round? If it's a straight, fair and

:04:01. > :04:05.Brexit fight, I'm quite relaxed. You fancy your chances quite well if

:04:06. > :04:10.it's an Ulster Unionist Party candidate? I'm quite relaxed. Pacts

:04:11. > :04:14.don't work, they are fundamentally anti-democratic. They restrict

:04:15. > :04:20.choice rather than try to facilitate a different type of choice. The

:04:21. > :04:23.leaders of the UUP and DUP will meet to discuss maximising the unionist

:04:24. > :04:27.vote, a different tactic used to those in the Assembly collections.

:04:28. > :04:36.Two months ago, Mike Nesbitt stood up and said vote might get column.

:04:37. > :04:42.Is it being replaced by vote Kruse, get Arlene Foster? That's what

:04:43. > :04:45.discussions will be about. If you can maximise the number of

:04:46. > :04:50.representatives that go back and take the seat in Westminster, so

:04:51. > :04:53.much the better. They believe the general election is an opportunity

:04:54. > :04:58.to form a Coalition. If we are to protect the wishes of the people, we

:04:59. > :05:04.need to stand up and it's a chance for progressives to stand together.

:05:05. > :05:08.We have a duty to see, can we maximise that pro-Remain vote, those

:05:09. > :05:12.people that want to mitigate the impact of Brexit. That's what we're

:05:13. > :05:17.trying to do. That would have to be done clearly on a nonsectarian basis

:05:18. > :05:21.and hopefully that could take forward the nonparty voices too.

:05:22. > :05:24.Just under seven weeks to polling day, it's clear there is still a lot

:05:25. > :05:26.to iron out. A firefighter from Omagh

:05:27. > :05:29.who was hailed a hero after coming to the help of a runner during last

:05:30. > :05:32.week's Boston Marathon has been Crew Commander Terry Canning,

:05:33. > :05:37.saw that US runner Julianne Bowe was overcome with heat

:05:38. > :05:40.and struggling to finish the race. Along with another competitor

:05:41. > :05:54.from Chile he helped carry her up He stayed with me for the last,

:05:55. > :05:59.maybe 200 metres and... Your job was a great help because you are a

:06:00. > :06:04.fireman. Yes. The important thing was that you let her down so she

:06:05. > :06:08.crossed the line. Absolutely, to anyone who has ever experienced a

:06:09. > :06:13.marathon, the most important thing is the last couple of steps over the

:06:14. > :06:15.marker plates, just say, I finished that marathon, I crossed the line

:06:16. > :06:16.have done it. Now finally here's Angie Phillips

:06:17. > :06:21.with the weather forecast. Hello there, we may be

:06:22. > :06:23.well into the springtime but the weather has different ideas

:06:24. > :06:26.about that this coming week. It is going to be feeling cold and

:06:27. > :06:37.off tonight as a cold front It is going to be feeling cold and

:06:38. > :06:42.it will be a gusty wind that will accentuate the chill. If you wintry

:06:43. > :06:47.showers in places as well. Tonight, a few rain showers in the evening in

:06:48. > :06:49.the first part of the night, not particularly chilly. Later in the

:06:50. > :06:54.night, we get that weather front moving in, a more persistent band of

:06:55. > :06:58.rain into the northern counties. It will sink south tomorrow and we will

:06:59. > :07:02.get a lot of sunshine but not particularly warm. A cloudy start of

:07:03. > :07:09.that rain band continues to sink south. Brighter skies follow behind.

:07:10. > :07:12.That rain band extending into the Republic of Ireland, north of

:07:13. > :07:19.England and parts of Wales and to that south of act, dry and bright

:07:20. > :07:21.and temperatures in the mid teens. Already some wintry showers of sleet

:07:22. > :07:27.and snow coming into northern parts of Scotland. Northern Ireland in the

:07:28. > :07:32.afternoon, some rain showers, plenty of sunshine and gusty winds that

:07:33. > :07:36.feeling cold. It is through tomorrow night and into Tuesday that we get

:07:37. > :07:39.sunshine and wintry showers, a mixture of rain, hail, sleet and

:07:40. > :07:41.hill snow. Our next BBC Newsline bulletin

:07:42. > :07:45.is at a 10.20pm this evening. From all of us here, enjoy the rest

:07:46. > :07:56.of your evening, bye bye. How many times have you

:07:57. > :08:05.driven a boat this fast?!
