:00:11. > :00:16.Tonight, the victim of a racist attack. A schoolboy says he was

:00:16. > :00:22.targeted after the death of a British servicemen in Woolwich.

:00:22. > :00:28.help me stand up for myself. I can't tolerate being a punching bag and

:00:28. > :00:32.getting hit. One for the road? Is Britain's first pub in a motorway

:00:32. > :00:35.service station one too many? Later, desperate you have more time

:00:36. > :00:45.with her children, a mother dying of cancer who is having to fight for

:00:46. > :00:54.

:00:54. > :00:57.investigating an alleged racist assault on an Oxfordshire schoolboy

:00:57. > :01:00.who was targeted after the death of a British soldier in Woolwich. The

:01:00. > :01:06.teenager claims he has been verbally and physically abused for years

:01:06. > :01:12.because of his faith. He says the abuse has intensified since the

:01:12. > :01:16.incident in London, two weeks ago. Beaten and afraid. This latest

:01:16. > :01:26.physical attack, just one of 20 this boy says he has endured at school in

:01:26. > :01:27.

:01:27. > :01:31.the last four years. I would say to the teachers, just luck. Just help

:01:31. > :01:35.me stand up for myself. I can't tolerate being a boxing bag and

:01:36. > :01:41.getting hit. The teenager, whose identity we have protected, says he

:01:41. > :01:49.has been repeatedly abused about his turban and called Ben lad. He says

:01:49. > :01:57.some of his classmates are ignorant of the differences between Muslims

:01:57. > :02:04.and Sikhs. I feel nervous, but I also feel sad. What will people

:02:04. > :02:08.say? I have got to control my anger. Tensions have risen across

:02:08. > :02:11.the UK since the death of Drummer Lee Rigby in London last month. The

:02:11. > :02:16.people's father says that his son was assaulted yesterday after being

:02:16. > :02:22.accused of supporting the Woolwich attack. School hasn't taken any

:02:22. > :02:28.notice about any of the issues, as such that we haven't even had them

:02:28. > :02:32.taking pictures of the swelling lips, the bruises on the body.

:02:32. > :02:40.Nobody has taken any notice of it. The family say that their son's

:02:40. > :02:43.safety is a major concern. We live in the fear at all times. He leaves

:02:43. > :02:48.house to go to school, when they come back, our heart is in our mouth

:02:48. > :02:51.all the time. It is so worrying. school denies there is an ongoing

:02:51. > :02:56.problem and says it was an isolated incident. The headteacher told us

:02:56. > :03:06.that he does not believe that racism played a part. But the boy 's family

:03:06. > :03:07.

:03:07. > :03:12.said that the real issues behind the from the charity BeatBullying and

:03:12. > :03:16.asked him what teachers should be doing. The first thing schools need

:03:16. > :03:20.to do is to understand the problem, understand the extent of prejudiced

:03:20. > :03:23.-based bullying going on and the reason behind it. Once they

:03:23. > :03:29.understand the problem, they need to look at the key values and the key

:03:29. > :03:31.behaviours they are instilling in teaching the pupils around equality,

:03:31. > :03:37.respect and around fairness. Obviously there will be things in

:03:37. > :03:44.place like policies, equality and action plans. But they need to look

:03:44. > :03:47.at how they are doing is within the curriculum and beyond. BeatBullying

:03:47. > :03:54.understands that something behind this behaviour is a poor

:03:54. > :03:57.understanding of diversity. We should be looking at how we can

:03:57. > :04:02.celebrate differences and embrace that within school communities.

:04:02. > :04:05.Children often haven't celebrated differences. I wonder if they

:04:05. > :04:10.recognise what is happening as racism? It's a tricky one. I think

:04:10. > :04:13.what we now is that a poor understanding of diversity, the fact

:04:13. > :04:18.that lots of young people that we have with say that sometimes

:04:18. > :04:21.different cultures, different religions, different backgrounds,

:04:21. > :04:24.they are not really discussed at school and sometimes are not

:04:24. > :04:32.discussed at home. They come at it with a lack of understanding of

:04:32. > :04:35.different cultures that can lead to difficult situations and quite

:04:35. > :04:39.serious incidents, in some cases. Because of the tensions after the

:04:39. > :04:43.death of Lee Rigby, should schools be looking to take preventative

:04:43. > :04:52.action? Prevention is always must should better than intervention

:04:52. > :04:54.after an incident. They should be looking at some of the key issues of

:04:54. > :05:01.respect, diversity and equality and how they are teaching them and

:05:01. > :05:05.instilling them in pupils behaviours. Next, police are

:05:05. > :05:09.investigating a series of burglaries in South Oxfordshire. Six houses had

:05:09. > :05:13.been broken into over the past three days. Properties around the Abingdon

:05:13. > :05:18.and Henley areas have been affected. Tablets, laptops and jewellery have

:05:18. > :05:21.been stolen. Officers are asking anyone who has seen anything to

:05:21. > :05:23.contact them. The number of law firms in Thames

:05:23. > :05:29.Valley providing legal aid in criminal cases could be cut from 51

:05:29. > :05:34.down to four. There is a consultation on government proposals

:05:34. > :05:37.to save 220 million a year from the legal aid bill. The Minister of

:05:37. > :05:41.Justice says despite cutbacks everyone's right to a fair trial

:05:41. > :05:45.will be upheld. Drink drive campaigners have

:05:45. > :05:50.criticised plans to open a bar at a motorway service station in

:05:50. > :05:58.Buckinghamshire. The chain JD Wetherspoon will serve alcohol from

:05:58. > :06:01.8am until 1am. It will be at the Beaconsfield services between Oxford

:06:01. > :06:11.and London. The company says it will be the first of its kind in London.

:06:11. > :06:12.

:06:12. > :06:18.It has been granted a licence, station to refuel will be given a

:06:18. > :06:22.new meaning when a pub opens at Beaconsfield services on the M40.

:06:22. > :06:25.You can already buy alcohol at shops in some service stations across the

:06:25. > :06:30.country, including this one in Beaconsfield. But this will be the

:06:30. > :06:35.first service station pub. I think it is ludicrous. I don't think it

:06:35. > :06:39.makes a difference if there is a pub here or 50 yards down the road.

:06:39. > :06:45.people are driving, there may be passengers, but I just don't think

:06:45. > :06:49.it's right, really. I think it should be banned altogether, it's

:06:49. > :06:55.encouraging people to drink and drive. 23 people are killed in

:06:55. > :07:00.Britain each month by drink drivers. That's according to the charity

:07:00. > :07:04.Brake. 180 people are seriously injured. I think it flies in the

:07:04. > :07:07.face of common sense. We've made a lot of progress in terms of

:07:07. > :07:13.drink-driving in previous years. I think selling alcohol in a service

:07:13. > :07:16.station gives out the wrong message to drivers. The landlord of the

:07:16. > :07:20.closest Pope to the service station is surprised it has been allowed.

:07:20. > :07:25.I'm staggered us went through as easily as it has. We are restricted

:07:25. > :07:31.in what we can do in a small pub, in a village like this. For the council

:07:31. > :07:35.to allow that to go through, as they have, I think it is ridiculous.

:07:35. > :07:39.District Council says it did not receive any objections and had no

:07:39. > :07:44.reason to refuse the application. Wetherspoon's has defended the

:07:44. > :07:47.plans, saying that 75% of sales will be food and non-alcoholic drinks.

:07:47. > :07:51.They will not ask if people are driving before serving them and they

:07:51. > :07:57.expect people to drink responsibly. Despite opposition, they hope this

:07:57. > :08:00.will see them on the road to opening many more motorway pubs.

:08:00. > :08:05.For the first time in its 44 year history, the London Magazine Time

:08:05. > :08:10.Out will not be available on time this week. A fire at a printing

:08:10. > :08:14.company warehouse yesterday destroyed more than 200,000 copies

:08:14. > :08:18.of this weeks edition. The magazine was due out today. It will now come

:08:18. > :08:23.out on Thursday, once it has been reprinted.

:08:23. > :08:29.Medical staff are being deployed to war zones around the world from a

:08:29. > :08:34.new base at RAF Brize Norton. It is going to be the headquarters of

:08:34. > :08:37.medical services. In Afghanistan, that Chinook

:08:37. > :08:42.helicopter is like a flying ambulance. The medical staff go

:08:42. > :08:45.through intensive training to prepare them for real-life

:08:45. > :08:48.emergencies. I think you need to be a robust person, physically and

:08:48. > :08:52.mentally. You will never prepare for everything you will see, you don't

:08:52. > :08:57.know what you are going to see, but you can train as hard as you can so

:08:57. > :09:00.it makes it easier when you have dealt with that situation. A new RAF

:09:00. > :09:04.medical centre opened today in Oxfordshire. Hundreds of staff will

:09:04. > :09:08.be trained here every year. The complex has a wider role. All kinds

:09:08. > :09:14.of medical equipment is now stored here at RAF Brize Norton. It is

:09:14. > :09:19.ready to go to Afghanistan in just a few hours. The previous headquarters

:09:19. > :09:25.at RAF line was spread over a large area. Now staff will be based in a

:09:25. > :09:27.purpose-built centre. It means you can walk down the corridor and speak

:09:27. > :09:32.to somebody, rather than using electronic modes of communication.

:09:32. > :09:36.It means we have all of our training and communication equipment in one

:09:36. > :09:46.place. They say that saving time can save lives. The new base in

:09:46. > :09:50.Oxfordshire will help them on Benson in Oxfordshire had been
